She still can’t shake the past, well, at least one part of it. With the family long forgotten, the Falls still lurked in the back of her mind. The fates of everyone in that herd were unknown. Rostislav had joined the little meeting, but other than that, she did not know how the others fared. She didn’t even know that Midas was dead. She didn’t know where Cashmere went off to. Heck she had no idea where anyone was. Even the fate of the falls remained a mystery as she refused to go back there for the time being.

But she noticed that ever so slightly she was edging closer and closer to the boarder. The heavenly fields in particular lie straight ahead. Following the cooler route to the north, she wound her way up to the fields that snuggled up against the Falls. She could hear the faint roar of the waters, and it drowned out any information she might here. Unfortunately going any closer would not be the smartest tactic.

So there she stood, looking down onto a land she could barely see. Even though nothing had really changed, it all looked so different. It smelled like a foreign land she had never explored, and the freshness it once held seemed to dwindle away. She didn’t realize how much the others made the land the way it was. Without them, it was a different realm.

The grasses swayed against her hock as she continued her internal debate. Here and there she would make assumptions about what was going on. Did they use the cells that she had built? Were they finishing the sensory deprivation room she toiled over? It seemed unfair that they had the ability to enjoy the fruits of her labor while she was displaced. Even if she had returned, the only thing she would have gotten was scrutiny.

For the first time in ages, Edgar, who was perched on a tree a few meters away, offered to fly down. That was the first time in weeks that he had spoken to her. It was a simple two words, but held so much meaning “I go.” Hesitance permeated through their bond. As much as she trusted him, they still had not officially apologized to each other for being mutual assholes. For all she knew, he would go down there and claim their arrival and have the entire herd after her head.

Curiosity eventually rose though, and begrudgingly she allowed him to swoop into the unknown. He knew the path from the fields down towards the falls well, so he stuck to it. He could at least get halfway down the path without being seen if he tried hard enough. Edgar flew a short way before landing and hopping down the path a few more feet. They needed to remain unseen if they wanted to learn anything. Certainly someone would give some information, right?
