Walking was so overrated sometimes especially when it seemed to take five hours for a half hour journey. Despite the obvious inconvenience the hybrid had gotten pretty good at hiding her actual emotions from everyone including herself at times. Moving along at a steady pace she cast her blue eyes back to make sure that the pair she had picked up along the way was still following her so she didn't have to go try and hunt them down should they be lost somewhere. See she could be social and hospitable when she wanted to be, after all she had offered to bring Raeden and her companion back the the Basin for the night instead of making them sleep in the threshold where something could have eaten them. Shuffling her wings into a more comfortable position she allowed herself to fall into step beside her new friend (perhaps she was a friend, she hadn't completely decided yet.)

"If I may inquire, who exactly have you been searching for?" She asked trying to be as helpful as possible and for curiosity's sake. The dark mare had asked the same question earlier in the threshold but it seemed to have gotten lost to the wind with the rest of the journey just commencing. It would be interesting to see if she might actually know the person who was being sought, not that she seemed to know too many inhabiting this rock now a days. Between the battles and the rest of the crap going on she really hadn't the time to go out and meet all too many unless they just happened to stop and chat with her along the way. Not that she cared to admit it but this whole being alone thing was starting to get a little dry for her liking, not that she was getting soft or anything. Her heart was still the ice laden prison it had always been and it would only crack should hell decide to freeze over a few thousand times, then just maybe the impossible would be possible. Thinking back it had been her parent's that had corrupted her in such a way to turn her into the dark beast she was today. They had lacked the attention or the love that she so rightly deserved cause who couldn't love a baby, like really. Where her parent's that cold hearted or did they only have enough love for her perfect brother? Prickling hatred oozed from her veins at the very thought of that bastard who had ruined her life, someday she would make him pay...someday.

RAEDEN
but what is love without lust
Her teal eyes traveled around the surrounding world of Helovia. She was amazed by how much had changed and how much didn't. At first she was surprised that a hybrid was allowed into the Basin. She knows very well how unicorns can be, and they do not take very kindly to something with wings. Her light hooves stepped delicately across the ground as she stayed behind Rhea. Tin on the other hand was always his stubborn self watching the every movement of this new mare. He was not very trusting at all and as they moved through the different environments his antlers would change shapes and colors with the plant life.

Raeden  nudged Tin ' You are making her uncomfortable.. I know she has wings, but you cant burn a hole through her with your eyes..'   Tin looked at her as he chuckled a bit sending thoughts back to her 'You know how feel... don't like strange ' Raeden shook her head chuckling as Rhea began walking next to her. It had been a long walk, but she was use to it because it was her only way of getting around. She thought back to her family for a moment, then to her sister. The talk the two mares had while going to the Basin had been a good one, but when Rhea asked who she was looking for her heart dropped. She wanted with all her mite to scream Ru into the wind, but what if she was dead. The thought entered her mind, what if. There was so much she needed to tell her sister, her best friend, her bones quivered with the thought of Ru being dead. She could not live with out her twin, Ru was everything to her. The name wanted to slip from her light palomino mouth but they would not come out. The name never left her maw in fear of Ru being dead. Instead Raeden looked to the mare with a lost smile and spoke sweetly  "I am looking for my Twin sister, and my family. You see me and Tin left here a few years ago, but now we are back. I am trying to find my family members, but most of all my sister. We had always been together since birth, and then we got separated... I just hope she is still alive."

Then she was quiet looking down to the now slightly frozen earth. They were in the Basin and she knew this very well. Tin nudged her side to comfort her as they continued on. She wanted to ask Rhea questions, but she did not want to invade her personal life. She smiled softly again a aching smile that was almost broken. "I just miss my old friends.... My old Life before I left, I just want to know what home is again" her somber words dripped from her honey mouth with quiet shushed tones.

As strong as the seas are stormy.</style>

Life had a funny way of surprising you.

Hotaru had learned somehow, in the midst of the mires that seeped at her soul, to love again. It was a twisted, fragile love. Tainted in ways by the darkness of her own past journeys. But it still throbbed stubbornly inside her withered glass heart, trying to remind her what it felt like to love and be loved. To have something to fight for, stand for. And though she'd been left beneath the evergreens, waking to only birdsong and Alice's soft breaths, it still meant something. That he'd allowed her to sleep upon his withers, and allowed her to slumber on instead of disturbing her with his departure.

Hotaru did not often believe in nor partake in hope. She'd always been the type to see what was before her and work and claw and sell her soul to achieve it. Hope was a non-necessity, in the face of sheer will and determination. The maiden had built an empire from a dream, a name that echoed as loudly - if not louder - than her mother's. At one point in time, Hotaru had thought love to be a weakness. Even family could not be relied upon, for how they turned their backs on you, held the silver blade that would sooner pierce your heart from behind than defend you. She'd learned in time that she was wrong, in that way, as she'd raised Arya and Raeru and slowly brought Mirabella to her side.

Could it be she was wrong, too, about romantic love?

Her mind was disgustingly sidetracked, but the war of the gods gave her the reprieve that she needed as a Lady. Whether a twist of fate or just convenient circumstances, she'd been given far too much to think about on a personal level, but at a time when the turmoil of the world united Helovia instead of separated it. She'd need to compartmentalize it all in time, but for the moment...she allowed herself the distraction.

Even still, she was not useless. Excused a patrol from their duties, if only to see their eyes alight with thanks, and took their route through the borders. If she needed time to think over things, she could at least do it while keeping her herd safe in some minor way.

Pack, Alice stressed in her head, from where she was hardly visible in the snow ahead. Hell black eyes turned over white shoulder, smoke rippling insidiously across the landscape from her fur. Hotaru frowned softly. Had someone been recruiting? A distinct sense of frustration slammed into her from Alice, and the Lady stumbled beneath the weight of the emotion. For a moment her mind recoiled, wondering what in the hell was wrong with her hound. Alice's irritation was followed immediately by the word once more, emphasized more than previously. PACK. Hotaru's legs moved a little faster, white striking out over white, wondering what was wrong. Alice had few words with which to communicate in her youth, but Hotaru knew for a fact she could say 'danger'.

With nothing left to do, Alice ripped open the link between them, images and sensations and memories twisting over and twining together as they assaulted Hotaru as vividly as a current experience. Pale golden flesh and taunting words, a horned companion and Deodat at her side, superiority, conflict, convoluted emotions and a retreating back. The queen stumbled once more, breath hitching and choking until she couldn't swallow past the blockade. Impossible. She'd given her twin up for dead, just as she'd mourned their parents. Gone, disappeared from Helovia, else Hotaru's network would have picked up where the golden girl was. But Alice was adamant, howling aloud to signal her presence to Rhea just as she was chanting the word inside Hotaru's head. Pack, pack, pack!

And Hotaru understood. Pack, real pack. Blood family, the likes of which Hotaru only had one remaining in the world. Alice darted off into the snow, determined to break the rosen girl from her haze while she stood there scarcely breathing and reeling from the insinuations. This meant...so much. Hotaru had wanted so desperately to find a way to atone, to apologize to her parents for what she'd done, only for them to be struck so ruthlessly from the earth by her goddess for the sake of future plans. She had believed that she was destined to be alone, in that way. That her children would never know the stories of her family, that the line would start and end with her in so many aspects. And in deeper, more intimate parts of herself, she had broken apart with the realization that she and Raeden had never reconciled.

Even when Raeden had appeared on her doorstep when she was Impersonator, Hotaru had been too bitter and hateful to do anything more than flaunt her successes in her twin's face. And while the bitterness still existed in her heart...it was washed away by the tidal wave of possibility.

Alice had arrived at the trail into the Basin, standing regal before Rhea and Raeden, and Hotaru's heart stopped as the hellhound forced the image into her mind's eye. Tripped, stumbled, kicked out with all her might, and ran. She was no queen, no Lady, no power to be feared or held in awe. She fled along the snow like a hare with one last chance to escape the wolf's fangs. Her eyes were wet, warm for the briefest of moments only to be chilled by the wind, diamonds of wetness catching in her forelock as her chest stuttered with sobs clasped inside her ribcage. Rhea's opinion of her never crossed her mind as she crested the hill, never pausing. Rae, Rae, Rae! Her mind chanted at her, sounding so much like herself when she was but a foal that she could scarcely breathe or think past the screaming in her head.

Evil teasing washed away by quiet understanding and encouragement, the faith in knowing that her sister would stand behind and beside her anywhere she went. Knowing that all she had to do was turn around and Raeden would be there, so inseparable they had once been, plotting how to evade Stella a few hours more. She stumbled down the hill, hair a windswept cloud of starlight and bihued eyes weeping freely. For just a moment she paused, rocks skittering beneath her white hooves, staring salvation in the face. The world narrowed, and she drank in the sight of her twin. They'd grown to be the same, as they should have done together, and she saw in Raeden her own features staring back at her. Changed only by the different colors painting each sister's skin.

Had Rhea known Hotaru any better, she would have seen it. They were mirrors, children of dawn light and high noon clouds, with bones like rolling waves and hearts like shields and swords. "Raeden," she choked, and the moment was gone. Hotaru threw herself forward, throwing her crown and her titles aside, trying to remember what it was like back then when it was the two of them against the world. Rae, Rae, Rae, her mind cried woundedly, and she knew she wouldn't be whole until she could feel her sister pressed against her skin and know she'd remain there.

Hotaru nearly slammed into her, compact frame seeking as much contact as she could afford, and as she felt her sister's initial warmth against her, everything dissolved. Her sob broke through, a wounded animal crying out as the trap encasing it's leg sprang open, and like a wild thing she hooked her chin around Raeden's withers and held her close. "Rae, Rae, Rae," she sobbed openly, her sister's nickname the only thing holding her to the world. Gravity had no hold on her any longer, shifting and returning the rightful center of her universe to Raeden.  "You're alive, you're here," and she's shuddering and crying so hard she can hardly think, and the world is swimming in her vision but it doesn't matter because she can still see gold. Gold of her sister's hide, gold of their shared blood, gold of her memories. And she's no longer Hotaru, Lady of the Basin, with her vast accomplishments and famed ascension. She's Ru, Raeden's baby sister, trembling and shaking and coming apart at the seams. Reunited. Together, again. And Hotaru could worry about fixing their bond later, because her world had become nothing but the touch of her twin's skin and the heartbeat she could feel faintly against her own breast.

The ice cold eyes of that little pipsqueak Raeden called her companion was really starting to irritate her as it stared her down as they walked. Having done nothing to deserve such disapproval especially when she had been trying her best to be nice for once she felt like showing it what a bitch she really could be. All it would take is one well placed kick to nail the thing into the ground...cutting the thought off short she couldn't stray from her task of bringing the pair of them back to the Basin. Sighing softly she turned to try her best to ignore Tin and instead see what the mare had to say about this person she was seeking. Listening intently as they walked along the hybrid cast a glance over to the sentinels as they strode past for one could never be too careful when most still seemed to hate her guts. Leave it to one of them brainless idiots to turn them against her just for a laugh... and leave it to her to pound their heads in.

Nodding in acknowledgement as to the mare trying to find her family she could only really assume what that feeling would be like. What would it be like to have a family? Having grown up with a nurse mare the darkened soldier really hadn't the faintest idea on what it meant or what it felt like to have someone care about you. It had hardened her into the cruel cold hearted bitch that stood here today and it had everything to do with her so called blood family. Life was full of its ups and downs and when it came down to it you could count on nobody but yourself so what need was there for others getting in the way and becoming liabilities.

By the time she got around to extracting some sort of wordly form from the dark confines of her mind another mare could be seen barreling towards them at full speed. Pinning her ears warily she ruffled her wings readying herself to jump into battle should she need to if the other decided to make things difficult. Staying this way until the blurred lines turned into the figure of Hotaru she dropped her stance figuring it was better not to provoke the queen of this ice pit. Casting a glance between the two mares she took a step or two back out of the way so she would not become an incident of this road accident waiting to happen. Ice, snow and speed never usually turned out well but she guessed that there was always those exceptions. "I take it you know each other?" She commented with one eye raised curiously at the outpouring of emotion she would never understand being shoveled out before her in mounds.

RAEDEN
but what is love without lust
Raeden nipped at Tin as she noticed the little deer staring to much at the mare. His little voice squealed a bit looking at Rea 'What that for' he snorted looking back to Rhea. She shook her light colored crow and sharpened her teal gaze on the deer. Tin lowered his decorated crown with a saddened look to Rhea as to say he was sorry. Raeden then looked to the winged mare with a small smile. "Tin says he is sorry, It has just been a long time since he had seen wings. Please forgive the little guy, he does not know any better." at that moment Tin reached his small muzzle out to say he was sorry to the winged woman.

Just as that moment finished Tin perked his little head up, alert he was looking around. Something was different, something was very near. Then the only thing he could get out to Rae was 'Other.... other..' Rae looked around trying to figure out what her companion was saying. She did not understand as the word echoed in her fine crown repeatedly. Over and over again the word would not stop. It was driving her up the wall. Her teal eyes looking ahead for what Tin was screaming about, but nothing showed up. The mountain's were bare with white fluff like always. She shook her head looking back to Rhea "Thank you for bringing me here for the night. I appreciate your kindness towards us. " Just as she finished up speaking there was a little dot off in the distance. It was a black speck moving along the snow. Tin repeated to Rae over and over again Other she still did not understand what he was saying. Her ears pinned back slightly waiting for what ever this creature was to attack them. Her teeth gritted together as she then saw a larger figure come across the snow following. Were they being attacked?

Her body tensed up along with Rhea's body as she waited for what ever it was to come full speed towards them. Then she could see it... She knew what it was. The creature flying at the two mares was her sister. She was alive! Rae perked her ears up she as she could feel the tears welling in her eyes. The warm salt water dripped down her perfect cheek, and into the snow under her. As Ru grew closer and closer she could feel her heart almost ready to leap out of her chest. Her baby sister was alive. Her long mane flew in the soft wind as Ru was almost touchable now. Her teal eyes blurred with warm salt water, as a smile of sheer happiness flooded her maw. Her baby sister was alive, it was not longer just Raeden. She was Rae and Ru again, they were together again.

She grew closer and closer, but Ru could not run fast enough. Her baby sister could not get in Rae's rang quick enough, she wanted to feel her touch again this second. Then she was face to face with her baby sister. Their eyes looked into each others as warm tears dripped down her face. Her usually powerful voice whispered and whimper a single two letters "Ru". it was all she could get out as the two sisters embraced each other. Her chest could feel the warmth again, her heart was complete. She would not let her body leave Ru's. She pressed her light pelt as close as she could. "I found you... your alive" she muttered after listing to her sister speak. "Don't ever leave my side again little sis.." She chuckled with tears of happiness streaming down her face."Rhea this is my sister.. the one i was looking for. Thank you so much" She looked over to the winged mare with a smile when she asked if they knew each other. Rae finally had her Ru back in her life..

Any ill that lay between them, any wounds that had not healed, Hotaru let them all fall apart and fade away. Nothing mattered except the fact that her sister was alive, where the rest of their family had perished. Where Hotaru had failed them. Even Rhea being witness to her weakness was inconsequential. She had proven herself as Lady, and a single viewpoint could be summarily dealt with in the future. But now...now...

Hotaru buried her face into Raeden's pale mane, sucking in her scent like she was dying. It was familiar. Changed only subtly with age and living life in the wilds, but still as present and unique as it had been when they were foals. Like a safety blanket, one she'd been sure had burned and wilted as easily as her parents. But she was here, alive, right against Hotaru's skin. Same height, same age, same soft gold-pink coloring, same pale eyes, same beating heart and burning blood. Twins, two halves of a universe made whole once more. It was all she could have hoped and prayed for, something she hadn't even allowed herself to amuse even in the depths of her dreams. Hope broke hearts, but this...the piece of her heart she'd thought gone for good had finally reappeared to make her whole. Or at least as close as a broken queen like she could be.

Even hearing that soft butchered nickname was enough to make her laugh, bordering on hysterical, tears streaming happily from her eyes. Ru. RuRu. Come on, Ru! It was like a ghost whispering in her ears, lilted voices too high with foalhood, only to be echoed by her twin's voice here in the present. A name no others had dared to call her by, one she'd never allowed anyways. It had always been meant for Raeden, and at last it had been returned to Hotaru, like a gift she'd been missing all along.

"You're the one who left," she laughed, though it was shaky with her relief and her tears. Finally she withdrew as Raeden thanked Rhea, though she didn't dare move any further away from her twin. But she did bend and wipe her tears against the insides of her forelegs, lifting her head and clearing her throat softly as she turned and gazed at Rhea, the Lady of her being slipping to replace the frantic joy she'd been exuding. "Thank you, Rhea," she noted softly, perhaps even a bit dismissively. Turning back to her sister she smiled softly and tilted her head back towards the borders where Alice was waiting.

"Come, I'll show you around."
