[DISTORTED VOICES] - [DISTORTED SCREAMING AND YELLING] "KYNARETH!"

Plum eyes open suddenly, the beholder startled awake. The young grey horse lay flat on the wet, cold ground, her heart pounding and mind racing. She breathes deeply, realizing it was in her mind that the voices were screaming. No one said her name. She was entirely alone. Tears sting her eyes and she closes them briefly until she is calm again. Her heart slows and she opens them, looking around. "Where am I?" she wonders quietly. Once again, her heart pounds against her chest as the words come out scratchy. Panic begins to itch its way up her legs and she rolls up, breathing hard. Her chest rattles and it leads her to cough, her body aching with it. With her front legs extended in front of her, it is then that she feels the dull ache of muscle pain. She struggles to stand and when she does, she does her best to stretch out her aching muscles.

She doesn't understand. She is clueless, her memories have abandoned her leaving her with only her name. "Kynareth," a strange voice can be heard in the back of her mind. She is hurt and she hangs her head, tears once again springing to her eyes. They threaten to spill on her cheek so she shuts her eyes once more, trying to find calm. It's early morning, a small breeze stirring the trees around her. It's utterly quiet. Serene. The mare opens her eyes again, acknowledging her surroundings. She understands now that she has to be strong. She had no idea where she was or who she was. Looking around, she raises her head and takes a good whiff of the breeze. Sensing nothing, she lowers her head and saunters on. She has no idea where she is headed but she figures if she just keeps walking, eventually she will run into someone.

She wasn't sure how much time had passed, but the young mare could only focus on keeping one hoof in front of the other. In fact, she hadn't really focused on anything else that she was surprised to hear the lapping of water on rocks. Her head popped up, plum eyes searching through the gaps between the trees. Then finally she saw it, the body of water before her. She hopped into a lope, trying her hardest to forgive the throbbing of pain coursing through her body. And when she finally reached the water, she dashed into it, hooves slipping on rock. Stopping and tumbling down her to her knees, she drank greedily from the water. She didn't even think to see if she was alone. When she had her fill, she allowed her body to lower her entire matted and dirty body into the water. She so enjoyed the cold biting her tender body. When she was pleased, she once again struggled to her hooves, damning the slippery rocks beneath her. She clamored to the shore and turned back to the water, enjoying the sight. Her own sight was ragged. Her natural white-grey body was covered in mats and weeds, now drenched. And her mane and tail had dreads in it, twisted with foliage. She couldn't even think of how she looked cleaned up.

She relaxed, cocking a right hind leg to rest. She gazed at the lake, admiring the serenity. She may not remember anything but she could live in this moment forever.

He parsed the tall trees that spotted the ground every so often, weaving in and out between their broad stems. It'd been two days into this forest but still he hadn't come across any other life, though he was thorough in his explorations. Each hooffall was careful, planted between twigs and springy boughs of grass. It was unlikely such a prime section of land was completely abandoned, given the cover of the area and bounty of food. So he continued onwards, seeking out any other creatures that might inhabit the area.

Luckily this forest had been here in the first place when he'd trudged, still flanked by opposing horses, deep into the forest. They'd pursued him there, two stallions that cornered him against a thick tangle of trees that prevented his flight. Throwing himself against his opposers he'd managed to take them down, kicking and charging with his horns bared. Finally they fell to his hooves and he was able to drag himself away from the battle, falling beside a small river. It'd taken a few days before he was able to move again but eventually he was able to pull himself up, delving deeper into the forest.

Moving back towards the river where he'd camped he pushed through the branches, moving to drip his mouth into the water when his eyes caught a figure -- resting on the banks on he other side. He moved along the river, looking towards this new filly. "Hello, he called, his voice haughty. "Are you lost, need help finding your way around?" Cutting through the river he came up on the other side of the banks, where she lay. There was no need for him to have a companion but she could prove useful; if anyone came around that was hostile, he could easily bound away while they preoccupied themselves with her.

The young mare was not paying attention, listening or looking to what was going around her. She was still fixated on enjoying the morning sun glistening on the water. At first, she caught a glimpse of a figure moving near her but she only swiveled a single ear toward it. When the figure had a voice, she leaped to attention, facing the stranger. She didn't even catch his first word, her heart was pounding so loud. She barely listened she was so caught off guard. Something about being lost? Her mind raced and her words came out in inaudible gibberish. The horned creature was walking through the water toward her way. Anxiety was building and her aches and pains were not even thought of. "I'm only slightly lost, stranger." She wasn't sure how her voice was going to come out but much to her surprise, it was a gentle voice but something in it was very solid and stern. Regal. She allowed her plum eyes to trace his body. It was obvious he had wounds, the crust of dried blood stained his golden coat. Was he dangerous or was he a victim of vagabonds? And what in Oblivion are the things sticking from his head? Her brow furrowed at her thoughts and she snapped back to look directly in his eyes. "Who are you, stallion," she asked, this time ready to use her voice with confidence. She stood tall and guarded, facing the stallion directly, arching her neck to the side. She would be strong if she needed, and tough. Kynareth was nothing close to mean but she would not let some stallion toy with her. She would show him she was a mature filly that could handle her own.

She fell, she hurt, she lived.
And through all the pain of her experiences,
she still had hope.

Weaving in and out of the trees almost expertly by now the alabaster mare wandered searching for any souls that might had wandered into the threshold's depths. It was not exactly the most hospitable place to be when you really had no idea where you where going so it was always nice to offer a helping hand to those in need. Figuring that she needed a break from tedious crafting job she had been working on she had originally headed out for the meadow to run but had gotten sidetracked and wound up here. Brilliant blues scanned through the greenery as her harks dipped forward and back catching any noises but other than the soft bubbling of a creek not too much of interest drew her eye. Pushing on deeper her mind rolled back and forth between Kaj and her task at hand but oddly enough always seemed to settle on the golden figure of the pegasus she had proclaimed to love. That part had not changed in any way shape or form but it was the same proclamation that had taken her by such surprise. It was almost unfathomable that someone so kindhearted and pure could ever love her as she did him. The whole idea was making her giddy and excited but she wasn't sure how to proceed from here on out, hell she was such a hopeless cause when it came to all this mushy stuff.

Absorbed in her own little world of rainbows and candy corn she nearly walked right past the grey mare laying in the brush. Jumping slightly as the movement from the corner of her eye registered she turned to face not only a mare but also the unicorn stallion standing there. "Oh..Hello. Welcome to Helovia." She greeted brightly with a kind smile as her eyes swept gently over their features wondering where they had come from. Neither seemed familiar to her so clearly they had come from so land beyond Helovia's borders. "My name is Brisa, I come from a herd called the Hidden Falls. What are your names?" She inquired kindly with a slight tilt of her head as she pivoted to face the pair.

"If either of you need a place to rest and recuperate I would gladly show you to the Falls where you would be welcome to stay as long as you like." She added just for good measures in case more decided to jump in on their little party.

He watched the filly rise, sizing her up, seeing her draw up to her full impressive height. Just slightly shorter than he was she managed to pull herself into a proud stance but her wounded visage and inexperience told him she wasn't a threat. "Call me Hesperos. And you?" he offered, though slightly tentative about giving out his name. Although he's done away with his persuers there was still the chance that some herd that had been victimized by his own could be lurking around. Although his name wasn't particularly well known there was still the off chance someone nearby could know him. Still, she was just a filly, and by the shaky visage and innocence in her eyes he doubted she'd done much.

Looking up at the slight shifting the underbrush he tensed at the sight of the mare that broke through the parting bushes. The filly gave him no worry but this mare was older -- friendly enough, it seemed, but he remained hesitant. "Hesperos," he said, though the word was tentative in his mouth. Though she offered sanctuary he was still hesitant at trusting her. "And this herd of yours," he tried, "Are you exclusively located around here? Or have you travelled from elsewhere?" Having never travelled to this area he had no concern if they were local; his name wouldn't have travelled so far. Still, he'd been traveling for so long that he'd welcome any place to lay down and rest, protected from any potential threats.

i am the vanguard of your destruction
Rain and the passing of time had erased d'Artagnan's scent from Helovia—even from this wretched stretch of forest lying upon its doorstep, the one, last piece of Helovia where the cherry bay had left his hoof prints before disappearing into the unknown vastness beyond. Mauja stood there, in the Threshold forest, and teetered upon the invisible line between Helovia and the world—hesitating, like one does upon a brink, leaning out over to peer down, before rocking back into the safety. There were no traces of the Doctor here. There had been no traces of him anywhere in the forest, where Mauja had hunted high and low, but there was nothing left.

It was like he had never even existed.

So Mauja gave up. Forlorn and dispirited he began to weave his way through the summer forest, head low. There was little of the once-Queen in his posture—little of regality and pride, just something bent and broken; bowed, frosted hooves scuffling through soft, wet loam and grass. Irma, the snowy owl, sat upon his withers, talons pricking into his flesh, but the blood upon them and upon his skin was old and dried, blackened. Diego was up somewhere in the air, floating just above the trees, searching for gods knew what.

In a way, he almost wished d'Artagnan had died. It would've been .. easier .. than this—this clinging, fucking hope that one day, in one year or ten or a thousand, he would come back.

(But he wouldn't. Mauja was certain of that.)

And still he kept on hoping like some kind of idiot, bumbling through the Threshold, knowing that he would never be free of this place because what if

".. I would gladly show you to the Falls where you would be welcome to stay as long as you like." Something—somethings—flashed through the trees up ahead, colors that were way too pale to be d'Artagnan but still made his heart stumble in his chest. Fuck, he even stumbled on the ground, pausing to squeeze his eyes tight shut. d'Artagnan wasn't here. He wouldn't ever be here. So don't you dare cry. Tentatively, he blinked a few times. Crisis averted.

(For now.)

Someone named Hesperos went on, asking about the Falls whereabouts in a sort of roundabout fashion. Mauja shook his head, too tired to try to figure anything out, too tired to think when grief and strangling hope lay in every corner of his mind. Life had opened beneath him like a black hole and it took all he had to not just pitch headfirst into it.

"Most Helovians came from the world beyond," he said quietly as he slipped onto the scene, his voice a little rougher around the edges than usual. Odd, to see Brisa here after all this time—he offered her a nod, but had nothing more in him, so he did not smile. "Brisa." Then, his gaze shifted to the newcomers: a young mare, looking properly disheveled and travel-worn. The other, Hesperos, had a few healing injuries, but looked cleaner, better, more alert. Had they been traveling together? "I am Mauja, of the World's Edge. My herd extends the same offer."

[ @Kynareth @Hesperos @Brisa || Welcome to Helovia! :D Bird, I just figured I'd mention this about horse heights- there's 4 inches to a hand, so it goes 15, 15.1, 15.2, 15.3, 16, etc. So if you mean "nearly 16 hands/160cm" it should be 15.3 ^^ ]

Kynareth

She watched him carefully, still, not giving trust to him. He was watching her carefully and she immediately became a little bit more defensive. She lowered her head as he spoke, her ears swiveling toward him. Hesperos. She nodded slowly, raising her head again. He wanted to know who she was. Her heart fluttered at the realization that she didn't even know. Her eyes wandered as she searched her memory. "I am Kynareth." Though she stated it, the words carried slight curiousity. She had heard the name in her dream as though it belonged to her - and cling to it she would. She looked back up to him about to speak again until another equine entered their area. She popped her head toward the new horse, unsure of the mare.

Her heart once began to race in her cavity. She hadn't been actively seeking anyone out and she was suddenly afraid of the traffic. The mare spoke and smiled. This was warming to Kyne and she suddenly felt more at ease in the company of the mare. She glanced at Hesperos and began to take a few cautious steps back. She wasn't sure who to watch carefully. This was so odd and new to her. She did not speak but simply listened to the two equines. She was too nervous to speak. When the mare spoke of a herd, longing began to take over Kyne's head. She wanted a herd, she wanted to belong. She didn't like to be alone and vulerable. She wanted to matter. As the mare asked for Kynareth's name, she was about to speak until the mare began to speak again. She offered homeage to the pair? She wanted this! She thought quietly, again not speaking. As Hesperos began to speak to the mare, her eyes flitted to the ground. She wondered. Should she follow this mare?

The sound of soft hoof beats caught her attention this time, and she turned her head to see the approach of yet another horse, another horned stallion. Odd, she thought. Were all stallions horned? She snorted under her breath at her own thoughts. How silly. As the stallion spoke to the mare, her eyes glanced between the two. They knew each other? Small world? He spoke of his name and the offer he made caused Kyne's heart to skip a beat. He too offered homeage? She had a choice and she hadn't spoken a word. She gathered all of the courage she could and she moved bravely toward Brisa. Stopping near the mare's flank, she flipped her tail against her side and politely looked at Mauja. She lowered her head slightly, below his, an act of respect to him. "I appreciate your offer, Mauja, but I must kindly decline." Her voice was gentle again and low. "I will follow you, Brisa, to Hidden Falls." Her voice was confident this time, her decision made. She looked to Brisa, searching her face for any reaction. And then her eyes flitted to Hesperos, wondering if he would come along.

She fell, she hurt, she lived.
And through all the pain of her experiences,
she still had hope.

As she waited patiently her mind once again slipped away to the bubbling happiness she was holding onto with a death grip. Nothing could be said or done to make her want to let go of the first genuinely good thing that had ever happened to her, well other than her sons. Both memories were equally valued and both of the two men she would always love with all her heart. It was such a difference to have something to hold onto when all her life had been spent from place to place on disposable time. The feeling was utterly surreal and made her feel as if she could actually sprout wings and soar up to the clouds and back with the only men she could ever love unless someone new decided to come into their little family. Stopping herself there for she was getting way ahead of herself she found it hard to pull her focus from the possibilities. With everything that had happened with Aeolus and Levex she had sworn that she would never again put herself through the hell of childbirth. Not in a million years was what she had said yet here she was getting all excited for something that was not even a for sure thing. It would certainly make Aeo happy considering he had been bringing up this odd idea of finding a new brother or sister a lot lately, where he had come up with the idea she would never know.

Hesporos spoke next introducing himself followed by more questions that she should have expected he would ask. Hell if it where her in his place she would be asking something similar. Opening her mouth to speak it was her surprise when a familiar voice came about to answer for her. Mauja? It had been forever since she had last seen the spotted brute, but it sure was good to see that he was doing...well maybe less than alright based on the roughened appearance he bore. Had something happened? Making note of it for a later conversation she tucked it away hoping that she would be able to speak to him more later on. "Mauja, its good to see you." She replied with a welcoming smile and nod of her own head. Movement drew her eyes to the grey filly as she seemed to gather her courage to come stand by her side. Giving her a reassuring smile she greeted her gently offering her her muzzle. "We will be glad to have you." [/color

Turning her attention back to the unicorn stallion, Hesporos once again she took a breath before answering his earlier questions. [color=#ffffff]"The Fall's is a herd that has been here for as long as I can recall and probably before. Many members have grown up here while others have joined us from other places. When I arrived here I too decided to join into a herd and it was one of the best choices I had ever made."
She reassured gently hoping to ease some of the mounting pressure.

Half his heart reached out to Brisa with a desire to rest; and then there were more hoof beats, soft on the heavily padded ground. A stallion parted through the trees, adorned with a horn much like Hesperos. With the appearance of this new creature, this ‘Mauja’, as Brissa addressed him. Two mares, neither unicorn nor pegasus was a thread to him. Battle hardened as he was he also bore prominent prongs on his forehead, giving him the advantage if there was an altercation. But this stallion seemed equipped with magic, given the familiar that clung to his withers. Although he felt the desire to pull back he stood his ground.

”Pleasure to meet you,” he offered tersely. Though their greetings were cordial he’d seen friend turn to foe time and time again and with this revelation that at least two herds inhabited this illusive land brought him back to the memories of fighting over territories. Fond memories, to be sure — at least when they were winning. To discover his potential sanctuary had a chance of erupting into violence worried him. Though he reveled in the idea of conquesting once more his long travels had left him weary.

”Two herds,” he mused out loud. ”So you two — get along, then? No fighting between these herds?” Tone it back, he reminded himself, getting too worked up over the idea of warring. ”I have a hard time believing squabbles haven’t broken out.” Looking between the two, he considered who to choose. Joining the stronger herd would allow him to develop a war band easily, but there would undoubtably be fighting with other equines that disagreed. On the other hand, a smaller herd would allow him to oust the leader easier.

ooc;; thanks, neo! it's been a while since i've done horse roleplays, i'm still getting used to the technical side.

Brisa smiled at him—said it was good to see him—and he felt like a devil for not being able to smile back at her. Fuck, she deserved so much more (everyone did), but he couldn't do anything but stare at her with a detached and cold kind of pain in his eyes. The corners of his mouth twitched, as if trying to remember how to smile, but nothing came of it, and he gave up. He supposed it was alright—it had to be, because he couldn't do anything about it with lips as stiff as something frozen and dead. So better to simply look properly morose and battered instead of a grinning, heartless psycho about to stab you in the eye.

”Pleasure to meet you,” Hesperos was offering, and one of Mauja's ears flicked back hesitantly. Pleasure? He was proper and formal and all but he didn't exactly sound pleased, and the young mare was sidling up to Brisa. "Of course," he said quietly to her as she declared her allegiance to the Falls (—and made him feel like some kind of contagious monster). He had been through this before—and it hurt every damn time. Hells, he even glanced at the shadows, looking for Johnny, because the only thing he needed now to repeat his past was that candy-cane pony to accidentally lick in the middle of it all.

But of course, the sugary stallion was nowhere to be found—it was just Mauja and his demons made all too real.

Hesperos went on, and there was just something—something that was.. unusual. Odd. Different. Mauja had met everyone and no one here, kings and queens and travelers of dimensions, wanderers and vagabonds and murderers—and in all his time, no one had ever quite asked things this way. He blinked a few times. But what was 'this way' even? Gods, he was in no fit state to think, couldn't put his hoof on it, and so he let it spin away into oblivion. "Four, actually," he responded softly. "There has been wars, and no doubt will be again. Someone will always think they are better, their cause more just, their need greater, and whether out of desperation or arrogant greed they will act." He felt dazed, as if his voice was coming from afar, and it took much of his will to drag his gaze to Hesperos and focus it on the pale man. "Does this bother you?"

Kynareth

As Brisa offered the filly her muzzle, she knew she had made the right choice. A smile crept its way onto her lips and she realized that it was the first time she had smiled since awakening in the forest. This was a new beginning, literally fresh. This was going to be good. As Mauja replied to her in a quiet voice, something in her stirred. Kynareth waited patiently, her eyes following the conversation between the three horses before her. For some reason that she couldn't come up with, she secretly hoped that Hesperos would come along with them. Why? She had exchanged hardly a dozen words to the stallion and only knew of his name. Nothing more. So where was this feeling coming from? Her tail twitched subconsciencely. As Hesperos spoke of the fighting, her heart leapt. Warriors? Fighting? Wars?

Her mind wandered slightly, closing her eyes. A flash of rain, fire, the clashing of horses on another suddenly flooded her memory. She stood utterly still, furrowing her brows and trying to hold onto the memory. It was too distant to recognize any part of it. Her eyes opened again as the stallion named Mauja began to speak. Distracted by him, she let go of the flashback and her eyes quietly traveled his body. He was different, beautiful. She watched him intently, relaxing as though she were invisible. She listened to his voice reply to Hespero's inquiry of war. His voice was so soft, calming. However, she could sense he was distracted? Hurt? She searched his eyes for something and yet saw nothing. Was he okay? At the first sight of him, he was intimidating. But now she thought of him differently. He was beautiful. She shifted her weight and fell quiet again, eyes still on the spotted stallion with the icy horn and hooves.

Kynareth was a quiet soul, untouched by pain and heartache. Though she may never know why, the intense desire to become a warrior still nagged in the back of her mind. All of her memories were gone, so why in Oblivion did she want to fight others? But it wasn't just about fighting, it was about protecting others. Saving others. She would talk about this later to Brisa.

ooc; sorry, kyne is so quiet. :3

”Not at all,” He answered quickly, though it did bother him to hear that violence wrought these lands as well as his own. A land unsoiled by violence would have no protections against his experience in fighting. But it wasn’t as though he had a choice — left with no one to trust and nowhere to go he needed a place to tend to his wounds. But there were two places to tend to his wounds… With no other guidance than his gut he stepped closer to Mauja. Perhaps this mysterious stallion with the two close familiars would be able to give him support. ”I’ll follow you then, Mauja.” He smiled, the very image of politeness. ”After you.”

Might as well play nice while he figured the place out. Although he’d been raised in a herd of violence where they took their desires without remorse, he wasn’t without the means to charm others. Whispers was in no way interested in a fresh start but he did see this as an opportunity to take a moment, collect himself, figure out what he was going to do. At this convening, realizing they meant him no harm, he felt a sort of weight overcome him, exhaustion of his past travels. Sleep had been short and spotted by him waking up, jarred, terrified that someone had found him.

Talk of violence aroused suspicion so he dodged around the subject. ”Is this what you do for fun?” He asks, attempting light conversation. ”Wander these woods in search of newcomers?”

ooc;; sorry kyne! lol i totally wanted hesperos to semi adopt kyne but his thoughts on kids rn is "ew gross". more conquest!
