Taking a break from life in the Basin for awhile the blackened hybrid sailed high above the trees just enjoying the feel of the breeze beneath her wings. With no more pain splitting through her head and no blood gushing from her ears today was a good day. It was about time that the gods got something right and managed to come up with a cure for her, it sure as hell took them long enough. Closing her bi-coloured optics to the sun she glided along peacefully until paranoia of crashing into something snapped her lids back open. Turning her sights towards the ground ocean no longer stretched out before her instead a massive field of green decorated the landscape making for a rather appetizing buffet. Drawing back her wings to descend it took little time before her hooves touched back down to earth with a soft thud, retracting her appendages back along her sides she gazed around to see where she had wound up this time.

It took the well seasoned traveler little time to identify her surroundings as the Rotunda with its tall sparse treeline and the towering shaded structure in the background. Pleased with herself at correctly identifying the place she dipped her head forward to pull loose a mouthful of the greenery. While no place here in Helovia seemed to hold pleasant memories for the winged loner this still had to be one of her top rated hangouts on account of the luxurious view and normally vacant premise. While her mind had begun to seek out potential conversation it was the stubborn force of habit that found her alone on far too many occasions. The idea of company was starting to become more appealing to the hybrid more and more each day but it was the fear of rejection that forced her hoof sending her in the opposite direction. Nobody in her family had ever wanted her so why should she expect anyone here to actually enjoy what little company she could provide. Her conversation skills were severely underdeveloped unless it came to rudeness or sarcasm, this was where she tended to thrive.

Time changes and with it so did those living in this hell hole but for whatever the reason she had always believed herself to be the exception to this rule. The less she interacted with those around her the less her mind could become corrupted by the idiotic morons that tended to flock towards her. It was only now that she was slowly beginning to realize just how lonely she had become over the years of isolation and self hatred. Everything that she was she hated, but in the same sense everything that she was she loved. It was all so confusing and so frustrating knowing what she had come from had taught her to hate herself all the more. Wings were not what he ancestors bore, they were the products of meaningless lack of loyalty. It was her mother that had made her bare this burden by mating with one of the winged monsters to create her only to disown her in favor of her wingless brother. It had been her that had been destined to the crown yet it was her that had been turned away due to her mutation. Life was unfair and what satisfaction could you get if nothing ever went your way?

Nature's great masterpiece : an elephant ; the only harmless great thing.
He had walked, slowly and dispassionately away from the Veins of the Gods. His heavy form lumbering as he unwilling had parted ways from his white, spotted friend. He had not wished to leave the broken man— but it was not up to him to heal that shattered soul. He could not, even if he tried. That was a feat of time, circumstance, and soul-searching. None of which he could provide. And hovering over Mauja all hours of the day would do nothing but irritate and alienate a friend he sorely needed (either it was Tembovu needed Mauja, or Mauja needing Tembovu. The friendship was necessary).

Because, though his own loss was not nearly as earth-shattering as his friends, he felt it rippling through the crevices in his soul as he walked back over the grassy land toward the Edge. Focusing on another’s hurt had allowed him to ignore his own pains.

But now, that he was alone, they resurface with a vengeance. The used, torn look on the gilded princess’s face as he had left her, unable to conquer his demons which shouted their glee at such a scene. Roughly he shook his head, massive hooves stomping harder as they tore clods of soil from the earth. His walk turned to a trot, then a ground-covering lope. Exercise (exhaustion) perhaps would silence these manipulative beast he harbored.

His pace quickly left darkened patches of sweat on his thick neck and flexing haunches. It, also, quickly brought him to the pillared building he had passed by before. He slowed, his muscles asking shouting for a reprieve from his aerobic workout. He was not truly built for stamina, he was built for strength and power.

As he slowed his pounding hooves to inspect the crumbling structure, a flash of metallic caught his eye. Large head whipped towards the flash, finding a tall, slender pegasus— with an impressive horn sprouting from her brow. A hybrid then (and his thoughts immediately soured as Caleb comes to mind). But this mare is to interesting, too unique, to allow such a callow man to taint her.

Nostrils slightly flaring from his exertions, and sweat still patching his buckskin hide in dark browns, he slowly approaches the grazing, winged mare. Taking note of the somewhat sour expression on her strong-featured, yet delicate, face, his ears black-rimmed ears perk towards her.

“Hello there, shimmering woman,” a slight smile crosses his thick lips as he glances to the her glimmering sides, “What turns your face bitter?” He grasps at the distraction of his own woes, dark blue eyes studying her multi-colored ones.

The longer she stood still the longer her mind continued to torture the painted hybrid with images of what could have been. Picturing the sleek black figure of her brother standing over her smiling that fake smile as he accepts the crown that should have been hers. Tipping her ears back in an automatic response anger fills her chest to its boiling point making her wish that the jackass was here to face her now just so she could wipe that smug expression off his face for good. It would serve him right to fall before her just like her father had almost done. She had been too weak and too young back then to complete such a sinister act but she wouldn't hesitate now if the opportunity came along.

Heavy hoof beats drew her thoughts back to the present as she turned to find a mammoth beast approaching her. Drawing her head up to her full height she regarded the man with moderate curiosity as his masculine tone breached the silence. Shimmering woman? Well that was a new one, she had never been called that before. A bemused smirk turned up her lips as she pivoted her ears towards the monster. Was it just her or where they making stallions taller and taller these days? There were not too many that she need look up to meet but this guy was one of the exceptions but at least the creature did not bare any wings to sweeten his tone. Caleb had been the last jerk to have talked to her and after leaving her high and dry she still didn't have many good things to say about his character. Just like with the Yeti he was still full of himself with the solar sized ego to match. Would this brute prove to be just as annoying she wondered faintly letting her eyes slip casually over his patterned hide.

"Oh you know, thinking of all the things that one cannot have thanks to someone screwing them over." She purred with a small laugh. Perhaps she was bitter from it all but who in the hell really cared what happened to her, she was just a nobody. "So what's your story handsome? Surely one does not walk all the way out here for no reason now." Swishing her tail casually to chase the pesky insects from her burns she awaited the stallion's answer.

Nature's great masterpiece : an elephant ; the only harmless great thing.
Nostrils finally relaxing as the effort of his exertions is assuaged by enough oxygen, a few stray drips of sweat meander down his neck, sliding down the impression before his broad shoulder, and finally making their way down his deep chest. Thick, black skin there twitches as the wayward drips mimic the tickling of insect legs. With a quick movement of his head, white teeth nip at the though hide, crest bulging as his muzzle tucked.

Returning his attention to the indigo wings before him, he cocks a substantial hindlimb as he resettles and relaxes his hefty mass. One ear slants sideways, the other remaining trained on glimmering woman as she speaks. The smallest of lines crease around his eyes, barely noticeable, at her bitter words masked with purring laughter.

He waits to pry, for her nebulous words were nearly asking for further inquiry— but not entirely. Sure enough, follows her comments with a question of him. A lopsided grin steals across his pale muzzle and black lips at her moniker for him. “My story? That’s a tale longer than the daylight we have left,” indeed, the history of the Elephant was a tortuous one. But, here, in Helovia, it was not quite so long. “I could ask the same of you, after claiming to be screwed over,” but his words aren't exactly asking— merely inviting her to share.

“But, indeed, I do not walk here without reason—“ his blue eyes shift to there ‘here,’ glancing at the crumbling pillars, “Do you know what ‘here’ is?” For a moment, he does not answer her question as a twinkling in the overgrown grass of the Rotunda has caught his attention. Slowly, he begins to walk towards the source of the glinting, eyes on the grass but ears tilted toward the mare.

Distractedly, his low voice rumbles to answer her, “I am returning from the Veins of the Gods and… visiting a friend.” His answer is vague, as he dips his head to the earth, having reached the shiny object. A small pendant, gleaming like a droplet of sunlight, laid in the grass beneath his muzzle. “What’s this?” The question was as much to himself as the mare with him.

“I am Tembovu. King of the Edge.” Would the title ever become happenstance to say?

Finally feeling as she could relax a little bit now that the brute was no longer a stranger the hybrid took the opportunity to shift her weight to a single hind foot instead of both. The relief was instant as the taught tissue around her hock relaxed ever so slightly taking the weight from her slowly healing burns. If she were less proud she should have probably gone to seek out one of the healers to take away the pain but with her pride standing in the way she had chosen to just bear with it and accept it would eventually heal, besides with her flight capabilities back there was little need for walking.

Shifting her eyes back to meet Tembovu's as he responds to her question she cant help but feel a slight avoidance to the actual question. Was there something that lay beneath the layers that was meant to be kept hidden? Naturally picking apart each sentence to see just what skeletons might be hiding in anothers closet. She really needed to find a hobby or something to take up more of her time so that she wasn't prying into everyone's business and leaving only more unanswered questions for her to fret over. " Well I ain't got much planned for the evening." She joked with a laugh not really caring how long their little conversation took up. Hey its not as if she was rushing back to do something oh so important plus it would help to keep her mind occupied. Ignoring the hit towards her own answer for the moment she replied instead to the where is here question. "We are in the Rotunda I belive. Its usually very quiet so I come here to think."

Visiting a friend? How could the stallion be visiting a friend when he didn't even know where he was standing? Maybe this was his way of admitting that he was lost without actually saying it out loud. Men where always horrible with directions so it wouldn't surprise her in the least, either part of that that is. The veins was one place that she had personally never travelled more for her overall lack of importance. The veins was for those the gods wanted to talk to not people such as her who only ever got mocked by them. The spark god was sure one to talk blaming them for not getting his so called mastermind plan to invade something or another when there was a fucking monster trying to kill them all. Excuse me, when would you like us to have the time when we are fighting the mess that you created for us? Thankfully she didn't speak such a thing out loud on their last meeting for she likely would not still be standing here.

"Mine goes back a number of years but i doubt you would be interested in it. Its nothing all that important." She commented softly unsure how she actually felt about the whole situation surrounding her family. Back then she had been furious and taken things so to heart, she still felt those emotions when she thought of the event but something was different. Something that she couldn't quite figure out how to explain without scaring herself by the answer for she was not capable of feeling such emotions. Pushing it away before it made her think more on it she turned back to see the stallion rooting through the grass. Raising an eye with mild curiosity she decided to voluntarily present her name for once in a blue moon.

"My name is Rhea from the Basin." She replied with a slight nod of her head. What in the world was this King doing? Watching him wander a few paces before sticking his muzzle out into the grass she craned her neck around to try and see past his lumbering body.

He chuckled at her words, for indeed he also had nothing planned for the evening. Though the chuckled died partway on his lips as he realized the sad truth— he had nothing planned because two of the equines he cared deeply for in Helovia were broken and hurting. One by his doing and the other only time would heal.

He focused on her next words, “The Rotunda? I’ve never been here before,” it was strange that this was true. For the Elephant felt as though he had walked Helovia many times over— though only because he had trekked to and from the Threshold so often. Well, at least he was starting to broaden his horizons, now. “It is rather peaceful,” his agreeing words were distracted as he lipped up the Sun Amulet from the grass. Shifting his eyes to Rhea, he lifted his head, words muffled as he spoke around the pendant, “Do you know what this is?”

"Mine goes back a number of years but i doubt you would be interested in it. Its nothing all that important.” His great head tilted slightly as she continued to softly comment on her own history. Her quiet words belied a multitude of emotions that simmered beneath her tone. “Surely it’s important to you?” he dropped the amulet unceremoniously to the grass as his attention focused on the perplexing winged mare. To him, no one should speak with such little self-worth. “And now I am most assuredly interested. Tell me, Rhea?” His low voice became softer, rumbling gently from his deep chest. He dismissed the fact that she was from the Basin— a place he inherently disliked and members he inherently distrusted.

Ears perked and head slightly outstretched, he watched and waited for the mare to answer, amulet forgotten— for the moment.

Gazing out over the expanse of grasses and sloping hillsides the hybrid had to agree that this place was peaceful. Between the strange buildings and the beautiful array of colours the sun cast between the trees it was magnificent. Come to think of it she had been here on more than this one occasion, there had been multiple times she had taken to these grassy plains for comfort and solitude. Shifting her eyes down to the giant stud her bi-coloured optics gazed upon the small little trinket he held up for her to see. Studying it for a couple moments she came to realize that it was quite similar to those of which she had tucked away underneath her mane.

Reaching around to her neck the mare gently teased the hair back from the medallions where they were woven into the thickest part of her mane for safekeeping. "It looks to be some kind of amulet." She replied taking a couple steps forward to get a better look. "I have found two trinkets like this but I really do not know too much about them other than they can store or hold onto magic. They are called amulets."

The properties to her understanding were all different based on the type of amulet possessed. Now if she had to distinguish one from another she would likely fail miserably at the task. She had one from the moon and one from spark but she could not guess how many other types there were out there. "It would be worth holding onto though." She confirmed with a smile.

There were not too many times in her past where she had managed to carry on a civil conversation with another being for this length of time, guess she should be proud of her accomplishment. When attention seemed to be pulled back to her earlier statement about being screwed over she was a little hesitant to tell her tale. So far she had not actually told a soul about her past in any great detail for it had never mattered to her before now. What was it that was changing her thinking and her whole attitude? Shaking her thoughts back into focus she gazed over to Tembovu wondering if she could actually trust him with the details. The big burly stallion had been nothing but kind to her since they met but was it enough?

After another minute of contemplation she finally broke down and decided to retell her story of how she had came to Helovia. " It's a little complicated but here goes nothing. Back before I came to this land I was alone with no where to really call home. When I was two I left the only family I had known out of the weight of their betrayal. You see the family I grew up with was not like many here where they accept pegasus or hybrids into their families. Well obviously you can see that my mother betrayed the herd by creating me with some rogue pegasus I am supposed to call my father. Since then everyone shunned me from being a part of the family, calling me a monster. My brother ended up taking the crown being that he only bore a horn and no wings. It was soon after that that I fled." Pausing to regather her thoughts she decided to leave out the little part where she had attempted to kill her father. There was no need to add more to how she appeared in the eyes of another when the opinion was likely already horrendous.

Nature's great masterpiece : an elephant ; the only harmless great thing.
Dark blue eyes widen slightly as she reveals her own assortment of ‘amulets’ (as she had called them), woven beneath her long mane. His eyes then fall down to the one he had dropped in the grass at his hooves— it was so bright compared to hers. Something to think about for another day.

He riveted his attention back to her as she advised him to retain the amulet, “Indeed I will. Thank you for the knowledge, Rhea.” He studied her face as the low words rumbled from his chest. The mare could have lied and simply kept the amulet for herself (something he would expect from other Basin members). But she was straightforward with him. He appreciated that more than she could know.

He glanced once towards the amulet, wondering how he would carry it with him. He lacked the silken, flowing locks of Rhea. And he didn’t trust it to stay in his tail… The glass chain around his neck, though not meant to be sturdy for the gifted claw, would do… But how would he affix it—

His thoughts were cut short at the sudden deluge of history that the silver-plated mare poured out. It was like a dam had been breached— as if she hadn’t shared this with anyone in a long time and suddenly, relieved, it washed over the Elephant’s cream ears. There was much in her story: racism, adultery, betrayal. His eyes darkened in sadness for the hybrid, though a perplexed thought crossed through the swath of darkness.

“In your past you were a victim of racism— yet now you reside in the Basin?” His head tilted ever so slightly to the side. He was not accusing her, just merely trying to understand this infamous draw the Aurora Basin had for its herd members. Was there something in the water?

He shifted his heavy weight on ivory hooves, uncertain of his next question, “And, if you don’t mind, would you fix this amulet,” his hoof gently tapped the sun drop, “to the chain at my neck?” The large head dipped slightly has his muzzle motioned towards the glass chain that held the lion’s claw at his broad chest.

Turning her head away as more of the potent thoughts began to resurface she felt her ears touch the sides of her skull. For so long she had locked this all away from the outside world and it had just pooled inside her. The pungent pools had festered building the rage inside her only higher and fueling the self hatred each time she looked upon the feathered appendages tethered to her back. There had been many times when she had considered the offers of others to strip them from her completely, but without them she didn't know who she was. The complete lack of identity scared her far beyond anything this physical world could throw at her, it just wasn't a possibility she wanted to consider.

Despite the hatred she had for those with wings there was still that small part of her that enjoyed the freedom they provided. Without them she was nobody, with them she could be whoever she wanted to be roaming the skies. She still didn't understand how she could hate something with such a passion yet still have positive associations that made her unwilling to strip them from her own body. It was all so confusing. Returning her eyes to the stallion she nodded as he expressed his gratitude. When conversation turned to her homeland choices she wasn't completely sure how to answer that without sounding heartless and cold. Initially her instincts had drawn her to the place of ice and snow due to the lack of those like herself. If she was to think harder about the decision maybe it was more to isolate herself from everyone and everything that could make her feel. It was easier to numb the emotion rather than facing the turmoil that had ensued so many years ago.

"I wanted to prove that I was no different from the rest of them. They all hated me yet they let me stay." She replied still considering what else she could say without straying from the truth. Walking slowly over towards the amulet she reached out gently to lift it towards the necklace the stallion wore around his neck. Studying it for a moment she was really at a loss on how to attach it to something made of glass unless she had something to attach it to. Getting an idea she dropped the amulet before reaching up to rip out a small bundle of hair from her mane, it would work to attach it to the necklace much like a ring. Using her horn to help her she eventually was able to thread the hair through the top of the amulet and attach it to the brute's necklace.

Stepping back to ensure it was to her satisfaction she couldn't help the small smile that touched her lips when it didn't clatter back to the earth. Sometimes it really helped to have long hair, other times it was just a pain in the ass. "That should stay without a problem." She commented nodding towards her handiwork.

Nature's great masterpiece : an elephant ; the only harmless great thing.
Ears perk forward and head tilts to the side as she answers his questions about her choice of herd. Those in her home hated her, and yet she remained? It sounded lonely, and entirely to similar to how Tembovu had lived in Dorobo. Except that it had been he who hated all those around him, save for a few, precious trustees and friends. He had even hated himself— though he was still not aware of this realization. Being a man of destruction, of double meanings and manipulation, was quite trying on someone so ingrained with justice.

But that was then. Now, he stood, watching the winged woman before him gently pick up the amulet from the grasses. After a few moments’ pause, she deftly used her own, ebony locks tie the pendant to the chain at his neck. Being a stallion, he was not immune to the nearness of the young mare, nor the gentle brushes her lips and mane made against his hide.

Shifting slightly, he began to talk— to keep his mind focused away from the nearness of her flesh, “Should you get tired of the hatred in the Basin, the World’s Edge would be glad to welcome you.” He smiled lopsidedly, even though she could not see it with her head at his chest. And then she was backing away, nodding and smiling slightly at her handiwork. “Thank you,” his low rumble was sincere as he searched for her mixed eyes. “Crafting responsibility call be back to the Edge. But my offer stands— even if you only wish to visit,” he smiled, before turning away to begin the long walk back towards the Edge. It was times like these when wings would be useful— the Basin was daft. “Goodbye, Rhea.”
