Beneath the early morning rays the great expanse of water appeared to be sparkling almost as if it were magic. While the colt new better than to believe the water was magically shining he still wondered what it was that drew mother out her so often. On the rare occasion he had been able to come with her and play in the water with his brother but ever since Levex vanished their visits had pretty much ceased all together. Some nights when he was pretending to sleep he had heard his mother sneak away for a couple hours before she would return carrying with her the scent of the ocean. Following her one night he had watched from a distance just to see what it was that was so damn interesting out here that he could not tag along like old times. From where he was hiding he watched as his mother approached the cliff's edge only to allow her head to droop down and she would just stand there like this for what seemed like forever. Sometimes he would see her look up to the sky but other than that she just stood there. Why didn't she do something like play in the water? Standing was just so boring, how did that make any sense?

Reaching his nose down to the sand he tried to figure out if there was anything else that he was missing but came up blank. Turning on his haunches to bound up the beach with a playful kick of his heels he moved father up the cliff side until he got to where mother had stood. Well so far he had a whole lotta nothing but what was over the edge? Inching up carefully he stood staring down at more water and some rocks, again boring. Snorting with frustration he flicked his tail against his sides and just stood there still completely lost for answers. This place was cool to look at and explore but to just stand here? Not exactly what he would want to do if he came here that's for sure. Taking a couple steps back from the edge as a strong breeze blew across the water he longed to just open his wings and fly out over the sea. Only problem was the fact that he still could not fly all that well but Kaj was teaching him at least. Maybe at their next practice he could learn to fly! He liked that idea but knew Kaj was likely going to want to take things slowly. Why did adults want to do things in slow motion? By the time you managed to learn whatever it was you needed you would be ancient! Fast motion was the way he wanted to do things if that was even a real word.

Finally giving in to temptation the brindled boy spread his wings out to his sides and closed his eyes. The gusts of wind blowing through his feathers felt amazing but by just standing here it wasn't enough to satisfy him. He wanted to be up there like the birds instead of confined to walking everywhere. Gah! Why couldn't he fly like everyone else did. All the others who had wings had already learned to fly by now and he was left behind, it just wasn't fair.

ARELI
Do you still believe in love, I wonder?

Areli totally had this flying thing figured out. Since her lesson on the beach, she had been able to repeat the hop-and-glide maneuver down from the dunes to the water—easy peasy. And while feeling her wings finally slicing through the air delighted her, it was growing boring. The slope of the sand was too shallow to truly give her the sensation of height and lift, leaving the first thrill of flight to settle to a quiet flutter in her belly. Areli craved excitement, and so after what must have been the millionth time leaping off of the rather unimpressive hill of sand, she set her sights on a platform more appropriate for her goals. Caleb’s warning unheeded, she called to Bee and headed down the beach—the cliffs would be much better for practicing. Besides, flying seemed pretty simple: all she had to do was jump and glide. Admittedly, the view made her a little nervous as she began to climb, but it was nothing her wings couldn’t handle. Areli possessed all the confidence of one who lived life in the most blissfully ignorant of fashions, and even Bee’s increasing whimpers did not deter her from her mission. She was tired of the baby stuff: give her some real flying!

Once she had reached the top, she paused for all of a minute to catch her breath. Sides heaving gently, Areli headed inland, moving far enough to give herself a decent runway. Impatient to be on her way, she did not bother to peer over the edge of the cliff. She had probably seen most of it on the journey up anyway, and Mama never checked cliffs before she took off, so why should she? Pegasi weren’t even supposed to be afraid of heights, she figured. She had this in the bag, no problem. “Easy peasy,” the filly whispered to herself, staring ahead at the narrow pathway into thin air. Still, Areli was a just the littlest bit nervous, so she took a deep breath, closed her eyes…oh, and she also ran.

It was Bee’s bark that first alerted her that something was wrong, but by the time her eyes snapped open, she was already too close. A boy who had not been there before now stood at the edge of the cliff, and Areli was barreling straight towards him. AHHHHH! she screamed at the blur of golden feathers, “LOOK OUT!!”

OOC: Sorry for the long wait! Also, she’s a walking safety hazard.

Enjoying the peaceful moment imagining that he was actually flying she sighed softly letting his eyes reopen once more. Things would be easier if he could fly, if he could maybe his brother would come back. Either that or he could find him if he had got himself lost somewhere and bring him home to make mother happy again. Maybe the only way he could bring him back was to talk to one of those important guys...the Gods, ya that was the word. Thinking about how that tree guy had somehow managed to build a boat out of nothing surely he had the power to bring his brother back didn't he? Now all he had to do was find one of them...but how was he going to do that? Mulling over his newest idea the boy failed to hear the soft thud of hooves behind him until a yell drew his attention as more words seemed to be screamed. Whipping himself around he barely had time to see the filly running at him with her wings out before he was having to try and react. What the... before thought had crossed his mind he felt himself thrown backwards as the girl crashed into him. THUDD..

As the colt found himself sliding across the grass all he could think about was the cliff behind him somewhere. No!! He was going to die! Please no! Closing his eyes in case this was the end he felt his limbs freeze and go numb just as his body seemed to go weightless. He was falling.... falling down to die!!!!! He wanted to live!!!! Panic spread rapidly through his body making him completely helpless and scared shitless. In all this ordeal he had no idea where his wings sat in all of this or if he was upside down or right side up. Feeling the wind rushing by him he felt something seem to slow his descent and push him backwards into the side of the rocks knocking the breath out of him and turning his vision black.

The next thing the boy could remember was the feeling of something cold against his body as the darkness slowly receded. Was this what it felt like to be dead he wondered to himself refusing to open his eyes just yet. He could still hear water and feel it...wait a minute...snapping his eyelids open in panic he could see rock and sky. Was he not dead? Lifting his head a sharp pain shot through his neck making him cringe uncomfortably at the sensation. He was hurt...but he was ALIVE!!! HE WAS ALIVE!! Relief washed over him filling his heart with joy and gratitude for not being dead. If he wasn't dead then where was he? Slowly taking mental stock of his body to ensure all limbs were still attached he moved to get back onto his feet. Aches and pains were definitely there but so far nothing seemed broken which was beyond relief from the young boy. Standing still for a number of moments as his neck spasmed painfully he attempted to take a step or two forward to see where exactly he was. Pulling his wings back to his body he cautiously edged his way forward only to look down upon the same rocks he had been staring at before. Only difference was that they seemed bigger now, either that or he was just closer. Lifting his eyes up he could see more rocks and maybe what was the top of the hill he had climbed before. The wind must have blown him backwards as he started falling and out of sheer luck he managed to land on what seemed to be a rather large ledge jutting out from the hillside. He had not known that it was there but thank the gods that it was! From the top he had not been able to see much but then again he had not gotten too close to the very edge to fully examine what else lay down here.

How had he ended up here exactly he wondered still a little foggy from when he hit the rocks. Oh right..the girl! What had happened to her? Was she ok? Why had she run into him? Fear twisted his guts as he worried for the fate of whoever it was that had run into him. Maybe they had stayed up top and not fallen, but what if they had? Staring down again to the water he couldn't see anything abnormal so she had to be safe up there...right? Hobbling a little farther forward he turned his head to stare back to the top of the cliff despite the painful protests of his muscles. "HELLO? IS SOMEBODY UP THERE??" He called out as loudly as he could. From what he could assume he had only fallen about 14 feet or so before the wind had caught his wings throwing him backwards. It was a sheer miracle that he had somehow survived this and with only a sore neck and leg oh and maybe back? He was alive that was all he cared about and he wasn't too badly broken so far anyway but how was he supposed to get back up there? He couldn't exactly fly up due to his unfortunate disability of not knowing how... and he couldn't walk up as there was no path...surely there had to be someway. Gathering up his courage he chanced a look back to his body to see if there was any damage. Wincing as his eyes fell upon a medium length gash upon his shoulder that was still oozing some blood he started feeling a little queasy. He had never had anything like this before but it didn't seem too bad really so surely there was no huge worries. Other than the soreness and the slice upon his right shoulder there was only a number of scrapes and some bruising that would surely heal in no time.

Mother was going to be so mad at him... perhaps he should rethink the idea of trying to get off this ledge. Someone could live on a rock couldn't they?

ARELI
Do you still believe in love, I wonder?

It was too late, it was too late! Without time to alter course, Areli could only hope that he would leap out of the way. Like a dark bullet, she shot towards him, face frozen in a mask of fear. Three strides…but he was only just turning…two strides…he wasn’t moving…one stride…! Just before impact, everything seemed to slow, and she caught sight of a pair of frightened blue eyes staring back into her own.

WHAM.

With a gut-wrenching thud, the girl felt her shoulder collide with the boy’s side, and in an instant, they were both tumbling over the edge of the cliff. Bee’s distraught howl mixed with the scream that tore from her lips, a scream that grew longer as they fell. The air rushed past her, suddenly refusing to support her weight as it had when she was gliding. It was all wrong! Desperately she threw her wings open, trying to save herself, but the dive had been too steep, the angle too chaotic…oh gods, she should have listened to Mama, she should have listened to Mama! Squeezing her eyes shut, she prepared to hit the water below.

It was cold when she splashed down into the sea with a skin-stinging force, and the tides tugged at her wings, pulling her deep into the swirling foam. On the cliff, Bee was barking madly, pacing the edge as her mistress fought the waves. Areli’s legs churned madly in an attempt to keep her head above the water, but her efforts were of little use against the relentless pounding of the water. Panicked, she opened her mouth to cry for help, but the noise only came out garbled and throaty. Helplessly, her eyes locked on the cliffs above, searching the rock as if Mama would suddenly materialize. But no one came, and with the next wave, her head was pushed below the surface. She tasted saltwater. From above, the wolf pup howled, feeling their connection flicker.

Areli was drowning.

Shivering as the cool ocean wind blew around his damp coat he wondered how long he had been out for. Had the girl left already? Mulling over the dilemma he had found himself in he just happened to look back down into the water and catch sight of something just below the surface. Lowering his head he squinted trying to get a better look at whatever it was floating down in the surf only to feel his blood run cold. A few lone feathers were lying upon the churning water and by the looks of them they were not belonging to his rather distinguishing wings. What had the filly looked like again? In the few seconds that he had managed to see the girl he didn't exactly have time to take in what she had looked like considering he had been trying to jump out of her way. What kind of crazy girl was she anyway? He thought having a strange feeling that me might actually know the girl from somewhere but where? She had looked to be a brownish colour from the little he could remember of her before she had crashing into him. Everything after that was very hazy and uncertain up until the point where he had woken up. For all he knew he could have been laying here for hours.

Peering back down to the feathers another blob appeared upon the surf as the waves rolled back in once more. This time it was a lot more than feathers, it was the filly! Oh no, no, no, what was he going to do? Maybe if he could fly he could try and save her but he was a failure at that. Fear began to swallow him whole as panic slowly spread throughout his body knowing that there was no one else around to help them."ANYONE HELP!! PLEASE! He screamed praying to the gods that someone just might happen to be lurking around to come help. He couldn't leave her like this, he needed to do something...but he was scared. Flicking his ears back fearfully he couldn't seem to pry himself away from the ledge as the sickening feeling of the filly's uncertain fate started to eat away at his conscience. Why was this happening? He wanted his mother. Tears began to streak down his cheeks as his brain tried to figure out what to do. Maybe it served her right to die...she had run into him after all. As soon as the thought surfaced he felt sick to have even considered it. She didn't deserve to die regardless of what she had done she hadn't even gotten to say hello. He needed to help her and the only way he could see it was him jumping down in the water with her. The brindle had done some swimming with mother but he wasn't very good at it, but if he didn't try she would certainly die. Gritting his teeth together he took another tentative step towards the edge pulling his wings close. He had to do it, he just had to. Taking a breath the boy leapt awkwardly off the ledge thanks to his injured leg and prayed that he would clear the sharp rocks below.

As the colt plunged below the surface he felt his muscles freeze with the shock of the cold enveloping he body like a cocoon. It wasn't until he felt his body scrape up against what he concluded was a rock did his survival instinct kick in telling him to swim to the surface before he ran out of oxygen. He felt like he was inside a washing machine tumbling around as the waves kept coming one by one clobbering him in one fell swoop sending him off in another direction. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, he repeated frantically over and over barely managing to keep his head above the water. Occasionally he would get sucked under inhaling a mouthful of saltwater and come spluttering to the surface hacking and coughing up a lung but he kept going. "WHERE ARE YOU?!" He yelled half gurgling half coughing harshly while fighting to find the filly amongst the turmoil. This was a stupid idea, they were both going to die down here and no one would ever know.. Shaking his head he couldn't let himself give up despite the pain his leg and wing was causing him, no he would find her. As another wave rose up above him he caught sight of the girl's lifeless body floating nearby and made a desperate lunge towards her swimming with all his strength. Stretching out his head he tried to grab onto some part of her only to get a mouthful of water, coughing he snorted to clear the water from his nose before trying again hoping he was close enough this time. "Mother...I..I love you." If he didn't make it out alive he prayed the gods would tell his mother this one last time for him.

ARELI
Do you still believe in love, I wonder?

Though the boy was shouting for her, Areli could not hear him above the roar of the ocean in her ears. With the amount of water she had swallowed, she could not hear much of anything, for she was beginning to succumb to the sea’s insistent tug. The chill was numbing, and while she struggled to stay afloat, the thought crossed her mind that it would just be easier to just let the tides carry her away. She had never seen the bottom of the ocean, she mused almost drowsily. Her churning legs began to slow. Maybe at the bottom of the ocean, there would be silver fish like the ones she’d seen skimming along under the surface of the river…quivering nostrils snorted drunkenly at the thought of leaping along with the silly fish. Wouldn’t Mama be surprised that she’d joined them…

But then a raw panic that wasn’t entirely her own flooded her mind, stabbing the sharp knife of fear into every nerve. It was Bee, though the filly didn’t realize it: the faithful canine had bounded down the cliffside and had stumbled into the shallows, yipping and howling amidst the swirling foam. The pup dared not swim, but her intense emotion elicited a reaction in the girl. With a startled jerk, the dark legs began moving once more, and the dappled neck grew long as it stretched towards the surface.

Still, it would not have been enough were it not for Aeolus, whose outstretched muzzle made contact with hers, tipping it upward towards the life-giving air. In the same moment, a large swell rolled past her, carrying her closer to the sandy beach. With renewed spirit, Areli spread her wings under the water, flapping them in time with her rapidly-moving hooves in an attempt to reach the shore. Another wave washed over her, but she fought all the harder to touch the sand. In the next rush of water, her efforts were rewarded. Tumbled unceremoniously into the shallower water, Areli felt her hooves strike sand. Shakily, the bedraggled girl crawled out of the ocean and collapsed on the beach.

This was not the way things were supposed to happen, he was supposed to grow up and grow old before he died! The undertow kept trying to suck him down into the depths and the darkness and with each wave it was getting harder and harder to resist. It was cold and the water was burning his eyes, nose, lungs and throat, oh why couldn't he have gills for times like this. He would be fish boy, the only fish that could breathe on land and in the water. People might actually notice him then and help him find his brother. Feeling another wave pummel him sideways towards the cliff his hooves scraped uselessly against the rocks doing nothing more than slowing his movements. Damn that girl, what was she thinking? Spluttering and coughing as more seawater managed to pour down his throat he felt a moment of terror when his lungs barely seemed to take in oxygen.

His attempts to lunge for the girl's body seemed to have done something to wake her up for in between his bobbing he caught glimpses of moving slowly up the beach before collapsing. He had to get out of here, he did not want to die but his muscles all hurt and fatigue seemed to make them weigh triple their weight. Paddling with his waterlogged extremities felt nearly useless but slowly the shore seemed to get closer and closer until sand squished beneath his feet sucking him into the shallows. Sides heaving laboriously more coughing seemed to tear at his lungs before he felt himself falling to the ground still half in the water. Fire screamed loudly in his ears making his world spin out of control until the ground seemed to level out around him. The pain was nearly unbearable between his leg, head and lungs but somehow he was alive and so was the girl. If he had the energy he could strangle her for putting them into this mess but fatigue won the battle making his new best friend the ground beneath him.

It took minutes before enough strength returned enabling the colt to lift his head to try and access any injuries either of them had. Blue eyes dragged over to the filly first to thankfully see her still breathing and from what he could tell injury free. Resting his head back in the sand he tried to move his front right leg but quickly stopped as pain enveloped the limb and shoulder. Well he knew that his shoulder had a gash in it but he had at least been able to move his leg! Turning his head to get a better look he managed to flop himself over to lie on his left side with much difficulty. The gash was still bleeding like it had been before but now there was also tons of sand caked into it only irritating it further. This was just what he always wanted... With the amount of pain consuming his leg the colt was half expecting to see his bones hanging out but to his thankful surprise only a few small cuts lay there instead. It was definitely quite swollen but he could manage to deal with it for now but getting home would be quite challenging.

Flopping his head down again he closed his eyes for a moment trying to clear the fuzz away before shifting to stare back at the filly. Hit by pegasus was not exactly the term he wanted to use to explain what happened but how else could it be explained unless he used hit by boulder instead. Groaning the boy made many awkward attempts to stand until managing to drag himself to his feet using only three legs. Any weight upon his right leg was impossible so for now he would be going three legged, or peg legged by pirate terminology. When he had said he wanted to be a pirate he had not meant to this extreme. Hopping forward a couple steps brought another coughing fit drawing more fluid out of where oxygen should have been. "Are you ok?" he croaked lowering his head to brush his muzzle against the filly's neck. First he had to make sure she was alright so that he wouldn't feel guilty for yelling at her when she was hurt too. Then again maybe the yelling would have to go to another day when it didn't hurt to breathe.

ARELI
Do you still believe in love, I wonder?

When her body collapsed onto the hard shore, she didn’t know where she went, but it wasn’t the beach. For a long moment—or maybe it was more than that; she couldn’t tell—everything went dark and quiet, as if the sea had dragged her down to the briny bottom after all. She could hear the vague rushing sound of blood in her ears, and perhaps, if she listened closely enough, the distant boom of the surf, but she was unconcerned, floating lazily in the swells of her own unconsciousness.

She didn’t know when she came to, only knew that she looked up to see a blinding light (the sun) and a lanky silhouette hovering over her before a blur of gold came rushing at her face. Bee was wriggling around her wildly, licking her all over in concern and relief and fear all at once, and it was all Areli could do to lie still and make the best of processing the rush of the pup’s heightened emotions. “Are you okay?” she heard a voice ask from above, and she squinted up at the brindled boy, dazed. “’M…alive,” she said finally, not knowing how else to respond. And in that moment, realizing what the other possibility might have been, the salty tears began to fall.

“Why…why di’n’t…you…move?” she sobbed, burying her muzzle in the sand between her front legs. Visibly shaken, her sides heaved with feeling. She could have died today, the girl knew, and the recognition of her own mortality was rendering her quite helpless to her tears. For the time being, her rescuer’s injuries went unnoticed—Areli was too blinded by emotion to see beyond the gaping void of what could have been.

Feeling the rattle of fluid in his chest the colt cringed not wanting to know what else he might had swallowed out there in the water. His palette was dry as a bone thanks to the excessive salt and his body felt all crusty where the water had been beginning to dry. How exactly could he go home like this? Mother would kill him for getting hurt like this despite it being the filly's fault. Where else could he go? If he didn't go home mother would come looking for him when the darkness began to consume the land, he couldn't run away. Flicking his ears back and closing his eyes he rode out another wave of pain in both his head and leg and body, it was just everywhere. Hacking harshly he groaned with discomfort gasping to regain his breath. Damn girl, why did she want to jump off a cliff anyway?

Turning his eyes back down to her he watched her open her eyes to gaze around for a second before a flash of fur was all over her. Spooking at the suddeness his body tried to jump sideways while his leg was having none of it. Landing painfully on his injured leg he stifled a cry gritting his teeth together as his leg gave out under his weight. Falling to his knees the pain was absoultely horrible but he did what he could to struggle back to his feet holding his right hoof just barely touching the ground. Coughing some more at the exertion he felt like just giving up and letting the beach have him. He was too tired to fight it and it hurt a lot, but there was still the girl to try and help. Hopping forward again he flicked his ears to catch the soft words leave her lips. M..alive. Well that was a start but not the answer he wanted. Alive was good but he could tell that much from her breathing and talking knowing the pup was likely hiding her line of sight he couldn't help roll his eyes.

The next words made his jaw drop in complete shock, what was wrong with this girl? Why didn't he move? What? Why the hell was she running off a cliff? Why didn't she stop or move? Lost for words it took a minute or two before he could think of anything at all. " Move? Why should I have moved? You ran into me!" He said in haste completely awestruck. "Where did you want me to move? Off the cliff? Why were you even trying to run off the damn cliff? You could have gotten us both killed?" Fear had seeped back into his voice as it crackled along with his lungs irritating the hell out of him. He could see that she was scared but so was he. "Forget it, you're obviously fine. i'm going home." He commented not wanting to deal with the girl anymore if she wanted to blame him for something she had done. To think that he had tried to save her by throwing himself into the water. Tears formed in his eyes as mixed anger, frustration and pain consumed him letting the tears fall. Brushing them away he hobbled over to the hill that would lead home only to stand there staring up at it. How in the world was he going to get up that? Great, first he almost died in the water saving that ungrateful filly only to get to land and die as he couldn't climb the hill. Could this day get any worse?

“Babies need help.” Hemlock’s voice woke Alysanne with a start where she dozed down the beach, enjoying the fierce sunshine. Climbing to her feet she scanned around her but couldn’t see anything. Not even her companion was within her sights at the moment. “Where are you? Where are they?” She called back to him through their mind, panic rising as she thought about all the trouble that anyone, nevermind foals, could get into near the ocean. She received the description of their location and took off as fast as she could, hooves sliding a little in the soft sand but she had raced along this coast before.

And besides, the concern did not lie with her own safety - but those of the foals that Hemlock was circling above even now, keeping an eye on them and directing Alysanne as she galloped.

When she finally arrived, spying Hemlock in the air above, there was no relief when she discovered that they weren’t actually babies as he had made it seem. All young horses seemed the same age to him but their age didn’t really matter. Green eyes surveyed the scene before her and Alysanne noticed with a pain that she recognized the figure standing at the base of the hill. She’d never forget him, wherever he lived - she had been there when he was born, after all, and he reminded her so much of her dear friend.

“Aeolus!” She called out to him, not slowing until she was near him and even then she did a quick circle around him. Only his pain, was he favouring a leg? stopped her from poking and prodding him to find out exactly what hurt. She was already reaching for the magic of the mists when she came to a stop again in front of him. “You’re hurt.” There was no chiding in her voice, only concern - though she wasn’t going to let her worry overwhelm her now. Not when Brisa’s son was injured and needed her help. Later, perhaps, when he was healed she would set in on the oh you are in so much trouble speech.

“What happened?” And then she noticed the younger filly further back and her stomach twisted. Hemlock said there was two. She looked to be conscious, at least, but Alysanne inquired after her still - “Is she okay?”

This would be one of the times that flying would have helped big time but of course due to his horrible luck that was totally out of the question. Besides his wings hurt just about as much as his head and leg did so quite honestly he was screwed. Refusing to look back the the filly and her companion out of sheer stubbornness he wanted to try and just figure out how he could get out of here. Reaching his head forward to see the extent of his movement he found that he could extend his head and neck still but moving it down or side to side hurt a lot. Well there goes the idea of trying to pull himself up the hill he mused flashing his tail against his sides in frustration. Guess the only thing he could do was force himself to go straight upwards... Hobbling forward this time the colt managed to get his front foot up a little higher before hopping to try and get his hind legs underneath him. One step down... five million to go...

Looking back up to the top of the hill again a figure appeared there for a moment before rushing down to hover over him like a mother hen. "Aly? How?" He stammered not really sure whether to be relieved or to fear for his life. Mother knew Aly all too well and now she would be bound to tell mother everything. He was officially doomed... Tilting his ears to the side shamefully he lowered his head feeling those green eyes stare down into him. Mother was going to be mad but auntie Aly didn't look too happy with him either. "I'm... I'm ok.." He croaked before more hacking shook his small frame sloshing the water around his lungs painfully. Well that attempt at trying to be brave had failed miserably.

Unbalanced by his coughing fit the boy stumbled backwards a step or two banging his right front hoof against the ground (injured leg). Stifling a cry a couple lone tears managed to trickle down his cheeks in response to the pain. There was no real easy way to answer the question as to what happened so instead of trying to come up with something creative and less scary he decided to just give a simple answer. "She happened." He commented dryly motioning back over his shoulder to where the filly was with her dog thing. He could only imagine what he looked like right now to Aly standing here favoring his leg, a bleeding laceration on his shoulder and head and then the rest of the little cuts, bumps and bruises over the remainder of his brindled body. "Please don't make me go home..." He pleaded gently hoping he could delay the inevitable as long as possible.

ARELI
Do you still believe in love, I wonder?

The colt was rightfully indignant, but Areli was too young and too distraught to understand his reaction. “Where did you want me to move?” he asked her, “Off the cliff?” But she didn’t pick up on his sarcasm. “YES!” she sobbed into Bee’s fur, “Why didn’t you fly? ‘M still—” here her voice broke as her sides heaved once more, “—‘M still learning, but you…!” Areli looked up at him helplessly through sopping lashes, wondering why he couldn’t have saved them both the collision by hopping into the sky. He was about Ilios’ age; surely he could have flown out of harm’s way!

However, the boy didn’t see it that way. “You could have gotten is both killed!” he exclaimed loudly, his bright eyes flashing. The sudden accusation cut into her like the sting of a whip across her back, and Areli gasped aloud in shock. “Me?” she called after him, even as he turned to storm away. “’S’all your fault! You could have killed us!” Angry and fearful, she turned away and began to weep bitterly once more, lost in self-pity. Still, she could not help but catch sight of his limp from the corners of her streaming eyes, and a prickle of guilt burned in her chest. In the torrent of tears and emotions, Alysanne’s arrival went unnoticed. She did not see her gallop to the rescue, nor did she witness the black and white mare clucking over Aeolus like a concerned mother hen—with her eyes closed, all she can see is the sea rushing up to meet her.

OOC: Sorry it’s so short and tiny, just trying to play catch-up!

Now that Aly had come and rescued them the brindled boy couldn't help but feel as if there would be some impending doom waiting for him the moment he got home. Mother would be so mad... He didn't like her when she was mad. Maybe Aly wouldn't make him go home just yet... it would give him time to figure out what to say to mother at least. Gulping brought on another hacking cough as the moisture rattled around in his chest hurting his lungs. Allowing his head to droop he resisted the urge to groan uncomfortably at the pressure that seemed to be constantly pressing up against his head, or the aching pains throughout his muscles, or the bleeding wound on his shoulder and leg and whatever else hurt that he didn't yet feel. Why had he jumped in to save that dumb girl anyway when she clearly wasn't needing his help.

Before he had promised himself that he was not going to look at the filly or talk to her but guess he broke his promise when she proclaimed that she would have rathered him jump off the cliff. Pivoting his broken frame around so he could look at her with disbelief he was at a loss for words for a number of moments. Had he heard her correct? Flicking his ears back to his aching skull as anger flooded through his veins he tried to pick words out to say something with difficulty. What do you even say to something like that? Thank you! He didn't think so. " Well I would have died if I had jumped you know. You aren't the only one learning but at least you have someone to teach you!"He snapped averting his eyes from the girl and her companion. At least she had a friend to care about what happened to her, he had no one. No father, no brother, no friends, he only had mother. Tears welled up in his blue eyes feeling suddenly very alone and wanting his mother. Turning back to his only friend he tried to bury his head in the comfort of Aly's neck not wanting anyone to see his tears.

Right now he didn't care if he was being mean to the girl, it was her fault for not stopping. At least he had been nice enough to at least try and help her after all of this and look what thanks he got out of it. Hot tears burned down his cheeks filled with a mixture of misery, pain and anger. He had never met someone so...so..ungrateful.

His plead for her not to send him home struck chords with her - she could only imagine how Brisa would react upon seeing her son in such a state. There was no real information about whatever had happened to the pair of them, instead he just cast blame back at the filly still on the beach. “Now, now, there’ll be no blaming here.” It certainly wasn’t helping either of them to keep passing on the blame to the other. Alysanne may as well try to put a stop to it.

He was already so big but there was still a colt in him yet she discovered as he buried his face in her neck. It was always so much easier for her to mother the foals that weren’t hers than it was her own, the role snapping into place immediately. Her voice was soft as she accepted him into her embrace, already making note to go check on the girl when she was done. “Shush my dear, it’ll be alright.” She moved to wrap her wings around him, just as she called forth the mists to her - feeling the magic of the Moon Goddess and the Edge surround the pair of them to heal his cuts and bruises, focusing her attention on the bleeding wounds on his head and shoulder and leaving most of the minor cuts, just ensuring that they would not be infected.

Light-headed from the effort she pulled back from him then to get a better look at him and see if she missed anything. “Feel better?” She waited for a response before addressing an earlier concern of his. “Now, I won’t accompany you back home so I can tell your mother what you’ve been up to on one condition - that filly needs our help and your apology.” Expecting protest she quickly added. “I don’t care who’s fault it was, you’re both young and my patients and I’ll not have you bicker so. It’s not polite and you’ve both been hurt enough. Come along now.” She hoped to extract an apology from the filly as well, who seemed just as quick to blame Aeolus as he had been to blame her. Without having been there, Alysanne couldn’t say, she could only make sure that the pair of them were cleaned up before they went back to their mothers.

Alysanne knew very well that she could not force Aeolus to come with her but she made toward the filly nonetheless - she quite meant the threat that she would go tell Brisa and was sure that he knew she meant it as well. Just as she had hurried towards him she hurried now to the form still lying in the sand. She had been able to cast out angry words just a moment ago but Alysanne was still concerned. “Dear little one, where does it hurt?” She wasn’t sure she could cast out the mists in a general search after healing Aeolus - she was so out of practice with them - but she lowered her head to nudge the younger foal encouragingly. “Can you stand?”

ARELI
Do you still believe in love, I wonder?

The filly’s ears flickered slightly as hooves crunched across the sand towards her prone form, but she still did not look up, expecting only the boy and more angry words. Instead, a gentle voice and a soft nudge surprised her. Startled, Areli raised a tear-streaked face to look at the stranger. A black and white pegasus stood beside her, wearing an expression full of concern as she asked where it hurt. “Everywhere!” came the melodramatic reply, with a choked hiccup for good measure. But the mare seemed too level-headed to buy much into that performance, so after a moment she quietly relented. “’M’alright, I think,” Areli murmured, gingerly stretching each wing before slowly attempting to rise. Perhaps her shoulder bore an ugly bruise from where she had hit Aeolus and her lungs were still a little phlegmy, but she could walk without falling—and that was an improvement over the boy’s limp at least. She shot a scowl over at the older colt, pouting at his indifference. Who did he think he was, anyway?

“’M’Areli,” she told the older mare, remembering her manners. “’n’ this’s Bee. We live in the Falls.” Her eyes flickered once more to the sulky boy and then back to the lady before her. “Are you his mama?” she asked, wondering what the connection between them was. He didn’t really look like her, but then again, she looked nothing like anyone in her family. Where her Mama was fair, she was dark, and where Papa and Ilios grew horns, her forehead was bare. It was certainly possible that the painted mare could have birthed this odd stripy gold creature, though she obviously hadn’t passed down her compassion. Indignant, Areli snorted self-righteously and tossed her sopping hair.

If you could imagine what it felt like to go round a few cycles in a washing machine, then you could imagine what he felt like. Between the water that lay in places it should not be inside him and the bumps, bruises and wounds maybe a fight with a lawn mower would have been more successful. For the most part this had to be the worst he had managed to damage all in one round. Even with his brother still here they had only ever given each other the odd bump or bruise, girls on the other hand went for blood.

Watching sourly as Aly went to tend to Areli the brindled lad stood pouting over the lack of gratitude that the filly was showing. He had risked his own life to try and save her ungrateful arse and in the end it was as if nothing had ever happened. She probably was just a spoiled brat with everything and anything she could ever want. That would at least explain the attitude when she got off easy with barely even a scratch. Stiffening as the filly introduced herself to Aly the ugly news that she lived in the Falls surfaced. Not only did he have to deal with her attitude now but that meant that he had to live with it! No that wasn't fair. Flicking his tail against his sides impatiently his blue gaze turned back towards the top of the embankment. There was only one way out of here and he couldn't manage to accomplish flying or walking, great this was just perfect.

As Aly's words finally registered within his beat up brain he was at a loss for words. She wanted him to do what! Apologize? Never! He hadn't done nothing wrong to apologize to the likes of her. "I didn't do anything but try and save her!" he protested defiantly feeling rather hurt that no one would believe him. " She was the one who ran into me! I couldn't just fly away cause I can't fly!" He admitted shamefully averting his eyes as his voice dropped away. Sniffing the young boy turned away from the pair feeling unwanted and rejected for his lack of flight. Taking one hesitant step forward onto his bad leg sent spasms of pain shooting up the length of his leg up into his shoulder. Sharply breathing in the boy winced reluctantly withdrawing that step. Aly may have healed the bleeding wounds but there was a lot more damage done then just that.

Alysanne wanted nothing more than to throw up her wings in exasperation at the stubbornness of foals - but it wouldn’t help in this matter for her new-found temper to wiggle it’s way in. The filly and colt were bickering like siblings and she wondered if they were siblings. She hadn’t seen Brisa in a while - it was certainly possible. Guilt riddled her thoughts, tempting to distract her from what was going on now, but she hastily pushed it aside so it would not consume her. Areli was asking her a question and she smiled down at the filly. “No, I’m his aunt. My name’s Aly.” She was glad to see that the filly wasn’t harmed, and she had enough energy to hopefully help Aeolus with the internal injuries of his leg. It wasn’t missed on her how he was limping, favouring the leg that she had healed.

Aeolus had no intention of apologizing, it seemed, and maybe she was wrong to force him to. When he confessed that he didn’t know how to fly her expression softened further. No wonder the two had tumbled so badly. “Aeolus, there’s nothing wrong with not knowing how to fly yet. You're young, you’ll learn. I don’t even know how to fly either, not very well at least. Maybe we can learn together?” She moved toward him, reaching out and intending to ruffle his mane with her muzzle. “That was very brave of you to try and save her.” Neither of them seemed to have done anything wrong. Except, perhaps, their proximity to the high cliffs in the first place. Standing with Aeolus now, she looked between the two - stern again. “I think you both need to stay away from cliffs for a little while, okay? Until you can fly? There are safer ways to learn - one that won’t give your poor mothers, and aunts, a heart attack.” She looked between them, hoping that they could at least agree to this.

“Once Aeolus’s leg is better do you think you two can walk back to the Falls with me to find your mothers without killing each other?”
