Taking all the time that they needed to safely work their way through the threshold's winding pathways the trio finally emerged from the forest just as the sun was peaking in the sky. The days were growing shorter as the looming winter season edged closer and closer casting its shadow over the land. With it the warm temperatures were also beginning to fade and the night's were beginning to carry a bite to them calling for greater planning to stay warm in the darkest hours. Pacing himself according to that of his newest friend he was more than happy to carry on their conversation as they walked along with Kiara a few paces up ahead leading the way. The chestnut mare was making out to be great company and surely would be a great asset to the herd. Shaking his head to clear his forelock out of his eyes he turned his head to face Ryeline motioning out to the scene slowly unfolding before them.

Green grasses still carpeted the entirety of the landscape providing plentiful food sources while the backdrop was one of the largest waterfalls they had here in the Falls. A fine mist draped itself over the lowest portions of the land which was a sure sign of the change in season. "Well here we are. Welcome to the Hidden Falls." He greeted coming to a stop at the peak of the hillside. "Our leaders are likely around here somewhere but you need not worry about them, both Kaj and Archibald are very kind and welcoming. I am head of the warriors alongside Ktulu, a mare named Resplendence is our head healer should you ever need assistance with anything and we also have a few other various jobs. Crafting, spying basically anything you can think of there is most of it. Did you have any questions that I might be able to answer?" He asked trying to be as helpful as possible while trying to avoid talking too much about things that were not as important.

"If you want to help out with any of the jobs don't be afraid to ask. We all can use the help and the more the merrier." He added with a chuckle.

Areli
the flower that smells the sweetest is shy and lowly

Orangemoon had come to Helovia again, but this year it seemed different to Areli. The trees were as bright as last autumn’s and the foliage underfoot just as crunchy, however somehow the girl couldn’t muster up the same enthusiasm that she’d greeted the fall with before. Perhaps it was knowing that the winter would follow, or perhaps it was the sadness of losing summer, but more likely the season kindled her melancholy because of the memories it stirred. Had it only been a year ago that Ilios had gone? It felt like ages to Areli. Brow furrowed, she tried to remember the last time she’d seen him. There had been the day she’d found Bee, and…well, that had been it. He had promised to visit and she had vowed to go to him, but neither plan had come to fruition. Was this how things were going to be? With her mind on her brother, the filly wandered rather morosely through the wood, shuffling through the leaves.

However, her dampened spirits didn’t seem to be affecting her companion’s. Bee was loving every minute of her first autumn and as she raced along the path ahead, Areli could feel her practically vibrating with excitement. So many sounds! So many smells! The sheer sensory stimulation was almost too much for the pup. Consequently, the filly had learned to let Bee’s reactions buzz in the back of her mind—if she paid attention to every spike of the wolf’s emotions, she’d be jittery as a junebug by now. As if on on cue, the pup scented a deer, and Areli brushed aside the jolt of adrenaline that spontaneously shot through her veins. While she could not see the mass of gold fur up ahead, she could hear Bee’s ecstatic yipping and the rustling of the brush as the poor animal made its speedy exit. “Bee,” she called, voice rather plaintive,  “Leave’m alone and c’mere.” Areli felt the wolf hesitate for a moment, perhaps contemplating the futility of chasing the deer. “Bee-eee,” she repeated in exasperation, and the pup obliged. Tail wagging, the wolf came crashing through the underbrush, grinning up apologetically at her mistress as she emerged. Though her heart was heavy, Areli couldn’t help but giggle at her best friend’s charmingly disheveled appearance. Leaves and bits of twig clung haphazardly to the wolf’s fur, bringing to mind the image of some sort of bizarre dog-bush hybrid. “Ewww,” the girl sang out in mock disgust, “Y’ve got dirt allov’r ya!” Unbothered, the pup flopped to the ground and rolled enthusiastically in the mud. Bee! Areli shrieked, darting forward. In the blink of an eye, the dog’s body contorted and she flipped to her feet, hind end in the air and daring her mistress to chase her. Golden eyes narrowed and met the pup’s mischievous brown ones…and then the pair was off, dashing through the trees with the filly laughing all the way.

It was in this fashion that they nearly tumbled into Kiara and her father. They had run nearly to the border when scenting the familiar duo, Bee skidded to a halt and backtracked abruptly. Areli, who had been hot on her heels, yelped in surprise as the pup’s sudden change of direction caused her to stumble. As she thudded into the forest floor, she looked up just in time to see—“PAPA!” the filly shrieked, already struggling to right herself. “Hi!” Rising, she grinned broadly and rushed towards her father, hoping to embrace him. “Where ya been? Didya go’n an adventure? Did Kiara eat any bad guys? Did—” Suddenly, she noticed the mare behind Ciceron. “Oh hi,” Areli chirped brightly, interrupting herself. “M’Areli; who’re you?”

Ryeline found that she quite enjoyed Ciceron’s company as she followed him back to the herd lands. It was lovely to speak with someone and learn so much when she hadn’t had a real conversation with someone in probably months. So she thoroughly enjoyed the walk with the stallion and his companion. She also found that she enjoyed the company of Kiara. She was very curious about the little tigress, and she was rather fond of the little memory she now had of the tigress’ approval of her.

At least she hoped it was approval. That’s what the brushing meant, right? At least that’s what it meant between their species.

She really would need to puzzle these things out, there was a lot she had yet to learn about these lands.

And yet even then she knew the crispness in the air said that Orangemoon was coming soon. And as they approached the herd lands and then stopped, she followed his gesture to look out over the land. And she found herself breathless.

It was beautiful, that much was obvious. She’d seen many places in her travels, but this one. This one resonated with her. The waterfall was a splendor and she briefly wondered what it would be like to get closer. She would need to explore the land later. Perhaps after the mist burned off under the light of the sun, although it currently added an air of mystique to the picturesque view.
She turned to regard Ciceron, smiling warmly as he spoke. "It’s stunning here," she said softly. "There’s a wonderful view from every angle from what I can see." She turned her head to look over it again, still a little stunned at how the herd lands looked. Though she had expected it to look lovely – his initial talk of the Falls had given her that image – this was... this was something.

"I don’t believe I have any questions at the moment," she said, tipping her head to the side. She paused briefly to toss her forelock out of her eyes, giving a contemplative hum. "Although I would love to help out and take on a job. I would hate to be a freeloader, and having nothing to do would be strange after doing everything myself for so long." She chuckled and shifted her weight to stand more comfortably. "Although I’m not certain where I could help most."

She trailed off, distracted by the sounds she suddenly caught. Her ears swiveled and she cocked her head, watching as a young mare bearing wings came skidding in with a wolf pup. What exactly was it with everyone having predators for friends here? She really would need to learn up on that some.

She was actually very excited to learn about these things.

She listened as Areli chattered to Ciceron, whom she gleaned was her father?, and couldn’t help but smile fondly at the filly’s enthusiasm and rapid fire questions. She even giggled when Areli finally noticed her, flicking her tail in amusement.

"Nice to meet you, Areli. I’m Ryeline," she said, giving the filly a smile. It was good to see happy horses around her again.

Standing overlooking the view was a calming task that the silver stag would never tire of. It was always the littlest things that most took for granted but yet it was these things that could give one the greatest joy in a life filled with many evils. Casting his silver gaze over the water for a couple moments before turning to Ryeline he smiled to see a very similar expression upon her face. Allowing her to speak freely he managed to keep his mouth shut so as not to ruin the peaceful atmosphere with unnecessary banter. Lowering his head to scratch his cheek against his leg he exchanged glances with Kiara who was surprisingly not in her normal impatient mood of wanting to move on already. Guess liking someone really helped with that he mused silently chuckling to himself as he finally got rid of the itch that had been bothering him.

Returning his head upright as Ryeline spoke again he waited for a gap to respond accordingly.
"There is no rush in finding a job. Take your time and look around to see what might interest you before choosing, that way you have a good idea what all is available." he suggested. Becoming a warrior had not been much of a choice for him when he had arrived as it had been all he had ever known growing up, or at least from what he chose to remember of it. It just seemed natural and it provided him with the opportunity to help the entire herd instead of only a few selected inhabitants. The other bonus was that it provided him the ability to protect what he had left of his family which was mostly just his two children now since everything else had been stripped away by Parelia. He would always resent her for doing that to him and with it taking away his chance to be the father he wanted to be for Ilios.

"PAPA!" Turning his head to the shriek he was happy to see Areli running towards him followed closely by Bee. Stepping forward to embrace his daughter he affectionately nuzzled her neck before pulling back to look at her.
"We have been wandering the threshold and you know Kiara always manages to find the bad guys." He commented playing along with his daughter his face alight with happiness. Casting an apologetic look over to Ryeline he hoped that she didn't mind the little interruption of his daughter bouncing in.

Areli
the flower that smells the sweetest is shy and lowly

Ciceron reached out to nuzzle her, and Areli’s face broke into a smile at his touch. She was always glad to see him return—especially since Ilios had gone, it comforted her to know about her parents’ comings and goings. Though they were rarely all together, the girl had grown skilled at taking advantage of the time she had with each of them. While there might have been a strain in Ciceron’s and Parelia’s relationship, their daughter knew nothing about it. She was too busy basking in their affection to notice the tension at herd meetings, too enamoured with the picture of a happy family to question her father’s long patrols and her mother’s frequent journeys away from the Falls. And for the time being, ignorance was bliss, for the knowledge of her parents’ separation would have been a heavy blow to the girl indeed, dealt so soon after her beloved brother had left the proverbial nest to seek his fortune elsewhere.

As her father stepped back to look at her, Areli stood tall, wondering how he would find his daughter. Over the past few seasons she had grown rapidly, and though her thick winter coat was beginning to appear, the fur was dark and smooth—so different from the fuzzy baby coat she had sported last year. At her sides, her wings rested glossy and fully-feathered, now as capable of carrying her into the sky as her mother’s. Though she had yet to grow into her lanky yearling’s body, her legs were longer and stronger, and for the first time, she didn’t have to crane her neck to meet Ciceron’s eyes as she sought his approval. A bit self-consciously, Areli wondered if he saw himself in her. Unlike Ilios, she looked so different from both her parents. While her brother married their mother’s coloration with their father’s distinctive trail of vines, the girl was plain in comparison. She didn’t have a horn—the only hint that she was Ciceron’s daughter glowed subtly along her flanks, and even the dapples would fade come winter. In truth, Areli bore more similarities to Kaj than the stallion she called her father, and for a reason that she couldn’t quite explain, it made her anxious. She knew he loved her, but would he still if she grew up to look more different from him each day? The filly hadn’t lived long enough nor spent enough time with her father to make the important comparisons—the similarities in their indomitable spirits, or the value that they both placed on family, for example.

However, Areli did not have much time to dwell on these thoughts, for the possibility of a new friend was much more exciting. While Ciceron explained that they had come from the Threshold, Bee was already sidling up to the mare who introduced herself as Ryeline, intrigued by the scent of lands beyond. “Nice ta meetcha,” Areli replied, trailing the curious pup until she stood before the mare. “Were you lost too?” she asked, with an inquistive tilt of her head. Though Ryeline seemed much more composed than the frightened angel-mare or the spitfire filly she’d found in the Threshold, she had come from the place where the dazed and confused seemed to collect. “All the ones I’ve met there ’r’ lost. Is Papa helpin’ you?”
