Helovia opened in February 2012! We are an active fantasy equine RPG
Where once the world narrowed into naught but gray dust and desolation, the gods called for life. Wielding the elements of fire and light, dark and wind, earth and water, spark and time, they have created Helovia. The realm is set within the mythical globe of Loorien, a planet rich with all variety of creatures and blessed with all manner of magic. Originally populated by nomadic, tribal characters, they've since grown into massive empires saturated with culture and history. Separated into four distinct segments of Helovia, called "The Regions," each band of horse strong enough and capable enough, took up the power and responsibility of leadership. Unicorns, old, wise and mysterious, took to the north, hidden in forests of mists and shadows and rarely making themselves known beyond their cliffs of the World's Edge. Equines, vast, organized and militaristic, split into two, one group went north to the Windtossed Foothills and the other group went south to the Dragon's Throat. Pegasus remained nomadic, making their homes in various parts of The Wilds in a migratory manner. For many generations, the land was peaceful and calm, but peace was never the way of the gods. With a clash of argument, war and bloodshed massacred Helovia, and in the aftermath, the realm was eerily quiet. Now, as newcomers sweep into this land, they are met with the lingering bitterness of the gods and the struggle to reclaim what was lost. Nothing remains safe or certain while sorcerers and soldiers alike brood and bide their time for revenge, honor and glory.

☼ - 7/19/13 - The moon has risen in the sky, heralding the return of the Goddess of the moon. Lamp trees which light the paths have grown brighter, moon flowers which grow in dark places have begun to grow and prosper and the world is brighter, filled with a new hope.
Endless Night :: Dead Magic Plot ☼ - 6/22/13 - The gods of Helovia, in order to protect the world, have disappeared into the rift, leaving the world sunless, moonless and magic-less in their absence. Only the herdlands have a source of light, but lamp-trees with glowing leaves and branches sporadically line the popular roads and paths from place to place.
Doppleganger Plot ☼ - 6/20/13 - The God of Time is still struggling to close the rift though which the dopplegangers have come. He has requested that his brothers and sister assist in closing this hole, but without knowing why it opened, the task is proving difficult. Magic still remains faulty and hard to control, but the herdlands continue to be places of refuge for those who are fortunate enough to call these lands home.
ORANGEMOON cools off the lands with a a viscious force. Colder than normal, a sign of things to come during Frostfall, Helovia is bathed in a rich tropical lushness - albiet a cold one. The coastlines of the Dragon's Throat are pelted constantly by tidal waves, and the desert climate is humid but chilly. Ice begins to form early in the Aurora Basin leaving the winding trails slick and dangerous. The mists of the World's Edge coat everything in a glistening crystalline shine which encourages mould to grow everywhere. The Spectral Marsh is the only area which remains fertile, blissfully temperature and lush.

Character of the Month for
June, 2017
WEAVER, Corporal of the Aurora Basin, is a relatively recent addition to Helovia and has taken it by storm. Branded with the seal of Death on her chest, intrigue and interest follow both her past and present. Though she is assuredly beautiful, her sometimes sharp personality reveals that there is more to this uni-peg hybrid than meets the eye. Proving herself able on the battlefield in the Basin’s warrior ranks, we can’t wait to see her test her mettle against the looming Kaos happenings! Congratulations!

Resplendence
one day i'll be stronger than my own doubt
So, she had at least a handful of healers now. One could suppose that was an improvement from just her, Lakota, and Miykael. Still, some were young, and she barely noticed most of the others. Aye, a common trait for the healers. Always hiding, humble, and willing to aid those that they could find. She felt a little stronger today, her mind finally merging some pieces together and allowing her to put it behind her - to not be as tormented by the ideas that had always swarmed her. "Quilyan is gone - he doesn't need you. Rue is the same. Should they require you they will come back. It is time to move on - to find someone else to love who will love you back," Valiance spoke. And while he didn't necessarily include the notion that both of them were dead she could agree with what he had said.
Time to move on. Time to rally the troops and ensure that the herd is ready for whatever might be thrown their way once more. So, she gathers eleven herbs and lays them out on the shelving unit which Brisa had so gratefully begun to work on this past season. Meanwhile, Valiance takes to the skies - attempting to gather all the healers, as well as any warriors or other members interested in Battle First Aid.

For the first time in a long time, her glitter is glowing vibrantly. She is at peace - her mind, soul, and body are all working in unison and she does not fear an oncoming attack. She offers a gentle smile and rolls her shoulders a little to stretch out her muscles before doing her best to stay at ease. Oh how she hated publicly speaking! "I hope the turn of the season has bestowed everyone with good tides. Alas, the last season was a mess - with the new lands and new inhabitants. I welcome any and all newcomers who have a desire for healing, and starting today the seasonal tasks will begin. It is best that we pool our resources and prepare for the worst while we have a moment of reprieve for we do not know what might truly happen next."
Long winded. Dear Gods. For the simple message she likes to get across she can never seem to do so without rambling on and on! Valiance pools up - hovering above the shelves - and as she finishes her welcoming speech he shoots a spray of fire to the sky (the last call for stragglers who had a desire to join this meeting). "I will give each of you the tasks you've been assigned separately for now is not the time. Today we are doing a lesson over Battle First Aid Herbs. I have eleven herbs that can be found just about everywhere to help with bruises, cuts, pain, and assist in fighting off infections. Some of them also have other uses, though they will not be covered in this lesson as they do not necessarily help in battle situations. "
She offers a pause, shifting her weight and then finishing off the introduction with, "Before I begin, does anyone have questions or concerns?"
Time to teach. Time to ensure that the healers and some warriors could keep their brethren alive until one could reach them to help.
This is a mandatory meeting for healers; this is optional for other ranks though it may be helpful for your profession if you fight enough (which is why I tagged the 'others').
This lesson will be added to the herb list once she has actually covered the herbs :D
Seasonal list will not be changed as we didn't really do it last season
A chilly breeze whipped through the duchess' ebony locks. She was a bit sour. The mare had taken sweet, precious time out of her journey home to cleanse herself, to make sure that her mane was no longer a tangled mess. But here she was, slipping into the herd's territory with a, once again, tangled mane and tail. The rest of her coat had fared well against the journey, though. She would still have to bathe again before she set out on another herb gathering excursion.
With her basket secured delicately between her jaws, Agnodice trotted back into the falls. Her new item was proving to be useful. She had stuffed it with herbs! She wasn't used to being able to carry so much at once, therefore the obvious thing to do was carry all she could just to do so (even if she had ended up with superfluous amounts of herbs and poisons. Though the poison was for herself. Well, not to use of course. She would throw them away, maybe experiment with antidotes, but not hurt anyone!)
Agnodice expected to find little hustle and bustle in the herd, maybe a few horses sunbathing or grazing, but certainly not a healer meeting. But a healer meeting was what she found. Resplendence and her valiant reptilian companion stood center-stage, her sparkling mane and tail making her seem like somewhat of a beacon.
The alabaster and onyx mare walked briskly to the pair, curvaceous ears pricked forward in interest. She halted a few lengths away, placing her basket at her hooves. From the outside, the basket's glass looked green, alluding to the herbs she had within. She waited quietly and listened carefully to Resplendence, eager to hear what she had to say.
He is late. Again. So what else is new? It isn't often that he arrives on time to meetings and it isn't done with the intent to harm, it isn't done with disrespect. So often he finds himself sidetracked - by his own thoughts, by some little task. But sometimes he simply loses track of time - thinking only seconds had passed as the minutes ticked by. He'd watched the familiar red dragon pass overhead and he very distinctly remembered nodding to him, acknowledging his presence and understanding what it meant. What he failed to register was just how long ago the dragon had come by to summon him.
Miykael moves with a sense of purpose to their usual meeting spot, his own mind still reeling over recent events. His long limbs carry him fairly quickly, traversing the uneven nature of the terrain with ease. The path is a familiar one, one that he's followed a few times already since he followed Kaj and Archibald to the Falls. As the stallion draws near, he slows his pace to move more quietly - easing himself forward towards those already gathered. He arrives just in time to hear Resplendence begin her speech and with a small smile, he quietly slides in beside the only other equine present. The pale mare was a fresh face, one he hadn't seen before, so he makes a mental note to meet up with her sometime in the near future then returns his gaze to the glittery pink mare.
Resplendence begins with a welcoming speech, as he'd been expecting and he offers her a warm and encouraging smile - a gesture that, he hoped, would help to ease her anxiety. He remains quiet, though, and within moments she's speaking again. The pink healer reveals the agenda for this particular meeting with a relative ease that he didn't often see her possess. And yet, the stallion doesn't speak. He has no reason to, not even when Resplendence is quiet to give them a chance to speak. He simply listens, his attention glued to the mare with a fair amount of interest. Miykael had always relied on his healing magic to take care of those in need but he knew there would be times where his lack of herb knowledge could result in a rather devastating misstep. So with great interest, the stallion listens to the head Earth Medic.
And if you close your eyes, Does it almost feel like You've been here before?
Resplendence it's what you feel but can't articulate outloud
Okay, so, this was a pretty darn sad turnout. What little was left of her courage to speak in front of others had begun to wilt at this point. She had Agnodice, whom she had welcomed to the herd, and Miykael, whom was her other Earth Medic. No one else. Alas, at least Agnodice had been trying to gather herbs in her spare time!
She sighed, giving a gentle motion with her maw and Valiance began to move the All-Heal into the front of the 'gathering'. "The first one is called All-Heal. Contrary to the name, it does not heal all, but it will help with bruises and cuts." The dark green herb with leaves growing in pairs was flowering purple. "It is most commonly found in fields, and I would recommend it to be used as a salve." After ensuring that each attendee had seen the herb, he grabbed the Aloe Vera and began to repeat the process. This time, it was a dusky green plant - much like a cactus - which offered yellow flowers (in the summer time). "Aloe Vera is known to assist with burns and cuts, and I would also use this as a salve. You will find this most often in warm environments."
From there, they moved onto Chastberry. "While Chastberry has other uses, for the purposes of this lesson, it aids with pain and weakness in the limbs. I would give this orally." Valiance carefully flew the pieces of the shrub around - showing the lance-like leaves and the flowers, as well as the grey and purple berries that were scattered across it. "You can find these anywhere that deciduous plants grow and in Mediterranean-like environments. Cleavers are widespread, though, and can be used to reduce inflammation and detoxify the blood." She paused for a moment, to allow Valiance a chance to show the small-white flowered plant which garnered delicate leaves. "Cloves must be dried if we are keeping them long term, and they are found on evergreen trees that will produce a small oblong fruit with a little pulp. In order to use their healing effects it will need to be made into a salve (and though it will serve other purposes as well) the main point of this one for battle first aid will be muscle soreness and anti-bacterial properties, which will help reduce chances of infection."
Valiance carefully laid each of the five plants covered currently before Resplendence before returning to his position upon her withers. "Does anyone have any questions about these five before we move on?" She finished with, offering a moment of silence for anyone to speak up.
She flicked a curvaceous ear to the side, peering at the other horse approaching. A pegasus stallion that she did not recognize, though he smelled heavily of the Falls. Agnodice offered him a small smile, making a mental note to perhaps speak to him sometime. Her glance was curious, but brief, and her gaze soon returned to the shimmering pink mare before her.
The turn out for this lesson was small, she supposed. This was disheartening, but she dared not dwell on the fact. Resplendence's tongue moved fast, and she had no time to dwell on strangers. She moved her attention back to the pink mare, watching in awe as her she motioned for her crimson colored reptile to bring herbs to her on command.
The duo's synonymity amazed her, but Resplendence's knowledge amazed her further. She spoke of each herb with ease, her mastery of these herbs faultless. Agnodice listened intently, ears pricked forward as she listened carefully, taking note of each herb Resplendence spoke of. She ingrained each herb's name and look into her mind, nodding slowly as she listened to their uses.
'All-Heal, Aloe Vera, Chastberry, Cleavers, Cloves. Easy-peasy,' Agnodice thought, though she would have to do independent study with these herbs to commit them properly to her memory. Since they were useful for battle, she thought it best to commit them to learn them well. She hoped that the horses here would aim for a pacifist lifestyle, but she would be there to heal them when they didn't.
Agnodice let Resplendence's silence go without answer as she went over each herb over and over again in her mind. She didn't have any questions this time, so she merely focused on committing the herbs to memory as Resplendence's silence settled among the three horses.
Miykael was both surprised and yet... well, not surprised when he realized that their healer meeting would be comprised of just the three of them. True healers are frequently in far shorter supply than any of the other ranks. Was it due to the innate selflessness that it required? Or the ability to set aside any and all differences to heal the sick and wounded? Being a healer wasn't an easy job. In fact, it is often a thankless duty - one that is often dismissed or the kindness of it so easily forgotten. Yet like the warrior, one must know and understand the body. One must know how to stem the flow of blood from open wounds and set bones. And the herbs. The seemingly endless supply of herbs found in nature and their widely varied uses - all of it a massive wealth of knowledge that a healer must know by heart.
Even Miykael was still learning about the herbs. It is difficult to discern, at times, which part of the particular plant should be used or how much given the individual being treated but he has every intention of learning. So as Resplendence sighed and began her lesson, he watched intently with his ears ever alert and ever forward. His blue eyed gaze absorbing each plant into his memory - color, overall appearance, flowers or fruit, aroma - and carefully locking it away with the details given by the small dun mare. She proceeds somewhat quickly, though he isn't surprised. Over the course of his time spent in the same herd as Resplendence, he'd never known her to be a social butterfly (though were any of them, really? So often the healers are those frequently found alone).
As Resplendence finished, however, and Valiance settled himself back upon her withers the small mare opened the floor for questions. For several moments, he allowed the silence to drift over them, offering the pale mare by his side the first opportunity to speak. Glancing but once in her general direction, he noted that she didn't seem to be making any move to speak. Taking that to mean that she had no questions at this time, he returned his blue eyed gaze to Resplendence once more. "Which parts of these five plants are to be used in the salves or eaten? Or are they simply used as a whole?" he asks, not bothering to hide his own curiosity. Some plants, he knew, were restrictive with only the roots or berries and blooms being useful but his knowledge of which ones (on a far more specific level) they were is quite limited; possibly even nonexistent. And who better to ask than the lovely Resplendence? To him, she was practically a walking manual of herbs.
