a light from the shadows shall spring

It felt victory as teeth and claws found their purchase on flesh and wing - relishing the taste of hot blood in its mouth. The taste was blinding, distracting, and the warg was so focused on the great flaming pegasus that it didn’t think to keep an eye out for the snake. Mara’s strike caught the warg on the shoulder - a roar erupting in aggravation and pain as his muscles started to twitch and still. Paralyzed, when Gaucho began to shift his wings the warg fell off and away, landing harshly on the ground.

There was no cleansing it of this body with the healing fire, this was it. A true form, a stronger form, not weighed down by the weaknesses. It fell to the ground, roaring with frustration as its front legs were paralyzed and useless while its back legs were still working. It tried to walk still, to keep moving toward Gaucho - silver eyes blazing with a need to put out those flames, once and for good, jaws snapping as it tried to will its body into movement. They flash over to Ampere as she approached, sharp teeth barred with a menacing growl at this intruder.

The effects of the snake’s bite was beginning to wear off but then it was blasted with Ampere’s magic, causing it to stumble. As the magic was blocked, the warg growled in pain as its body started to shift and snap back into the form of the demigod.

Mesec was Mesec again. His silver eyes were rimmed with white as he tried to catch his breath even as he shouted at the figures nearby. “GO! Before... it... comes back.” But it didn’t, not yet. He was expecting the pain to begin again but it was being blocked, kept at bay, and Mesec now had to deal with all he it had done and all it had tried to do.

This time, though he couldn’t remember for himself, Lucius wasted no time in flinging the images of what had happened into his mind. No point in protecting Mesec now, the demigod needed to know - however painful it was. It wasn’t difficult to fill in the blanks with his wild thoughts as he lay on the ground near Gaucho and Ampere. He didn’t want this pain, didn’t want a single part of it. He wished there was some physical pain he could hold onto instead of the emotional - but there was nothing physical about the pain. Although he did not remember it, Gaucho's healing flames had taken care of the burns.

The effect of the paralyzing magic had worn off and Mesec got to his legs - shaking not so much from exhaustion but from the intensity of each emotion in him as Ampere’s magic blocked the warg and he was able to see his own distress. Even as he was still standing up he began backing away from the pair. Not out of any fear of them, he wanted to be as far away from this family when whatever laid hidden inside him decided to come back out. “You should have killed me.” He whispered to Gaucho and although he wanted to stand there, to feel the wrath of the Sultan and Chancellor, he knew he was too big of a risk. He had to remove himself and quickly. With the warg-magic blocked, there was enough strength in him to draw the shadows toward him again - his sad silver eyes looking first to Gaucho (there were no words to begin the apologies) before moving to Ampere as the darkness enveloped him and he disappeared.

This destruction, it seemed, was all that he could offer her with his love. He wouldn't be keeping his promise to Najya to confess - there was no need. Ampere had Gaucho, had a family, and he had no wish to get between them... not any more than he just had.

A short trip, Mesec reappeared at the edge of the meadow - in the opposite direction to where he thought the foals had been. Lucius, left behind, could do nothing but release a long, mournful call to Vorsa - pleading with her to understand that it hadn’t been Mesec’s fault - before chasing after his bonded. Once Mesec was out of range of Ampere’s magic, he would likely shift again as the thoughts and borrowed memories stormed within his mind, and he could only think to outrace any fatigue and get as far away as he could before it happened.
