Ava

It had been fun there on the island, eating from coconuts and watching strange creatures come and go. She had kept mostly to herself though, as so many about this place seemed to know where they were going, and have no care for stopping by. She watched as they all eventually left this this last little isle, and crossed to channel to the mainland. Helovia, the other mare had called it. For hours the girl had stared at that strange shore, her mind buzzing with the possibilities. Even the feathers at her side was shiver to think that whole new world.

Yet she never left the isle. All the while she stared at that curious land, her hooves did not lift towards it from the sand. At the return of high tide, or dusk she would always sigh, and turn back to the isle, seemingly content to stay. The girl did not quite understand it, but certainly we could. How could we blame the youth for being timid of really stepping over the edge and leaving even the last thing she knew about this earth, the sea. Not to mention the thought of swimming again. So she hung around, enjoying the late autumn sun and exploring the jungles. For the first week or so she kept a weathered eyes out for a gray equine, but he seemed to have vanished. The girl tried not to think of that loss too much either.

So at first today looked the same as any day. The pearl stood by the seaside, starring across the churning waters. The tide began to come in, and her thoughts began to return to the jungle behind her, but the world was done waiting for the pearl to come from the shadows.

A cry rang out over the girl’s head, and her curled ears twist to catch it. Up in the sky the birds hoover above, drifting on the shifting winds. The pale girl can’t help but feel a smile rise to her lips to watch the birds which she’d grown so fond of. Usually they hoovered down to her, resting against the winds on the beach, and sometimes they’d even share a walk (well sort of, she was would walk towards them and they would walk away in front). But today was different. The wind, in a rushing gust shifted, and swept from the new world. The light locks of the child were overcome from their own usual shiftings and blew straight back, and for the first time the girl truly inhaled the air over Helovia. Her wings rise from her sides, and a bright spark lights in her sea blue eyes. They lift to look at the birds above, waiting for them, when she sees that they are climbing the incoming banks of air towards the mainland. She inhales, holding herself strong, but the feathers at her side quiver and her mane is pulled in a long slow breeze.

The girl literally jumps in. Her heart pounded to light her chest, fluttering like a bird above that she could do nothing less. Immediately she was up to her chest in the water, and her guard fitted wings rose out above the waves to balance her. She swims, for still so strong was the doctrine of her home against flight. The problem was, the tide, in her hesitations, was already coming in, and the water was shockingly cold. It sucked the breath from the girl as she strained into the waves, and her body began to shiver with it. She had never known cold such as this. Never felt the bitter bite of winter. And it kept rising, up and up. How foolish she was to dare the crossing now. Yet her mind had been so taken with the promise of it. A wave surged large to her side and nearly knocked her over, had her wings now spread out to catch against the surface. Her resolve wavered. Then she lost her footing.

A gasp shrieked up as she plunged completely into the salt water, and was pulled in all directions by the waves, the cold freezing every muscle. This was her fate, thought she. This was the punishment for daring cross the waters and defy the gods. So angry was he beneath the waves, he would see her drown now for it. She cursed her own foolishness and cringed against the final descent in the waves, for now, seeing the sea god did not sound nearly as fun as it had months ago.

Another wave shoved her forward, and she thought the last decent was coming, but instead of finding the raging sea god, her hooves scrapped sand. When she found the surface again, instead of a gasp came a solid, full breath, before the wave surged over her again. This time she was ready, and her limbs, tingling with numbness, kicked and surged, even her wings, lifted and plowed into the water like an oar. Finally she began to rise above the waves, and the water sank from her sides. Ava may be like a childish enough to attempt the swim, but she was proving to be made of stronger stuff.

As she rose from the water, staggering up the bank, her eyes were pulled down, and her whole body shivered. So when the sand rose up sharply for the first dune, her body could not meet the challenge anymore, and fell a wet shivering heap into the sand. Her heart ached, but not just from the cold. How foolish could she be to think to tempt the god of sea twice! And now look, she would be stuck upon this isle forever. You see, she believed to have been turned around. Her curled ear topped head twists closer into her shivering body, and sea eyes open to look out. Yet she does not see the long flat line of horizon she knew well. No, she sees the volcanic isle, and her heart leaps up from his low frozen beat. Her breeze pulls at her wet mane, picking up like a morning breeze upon the beach (though that only made her shiver more). She had made it across? The celebration was short lived as her own magic worked against her and chilled her already freezing body. Her eyes close against the cold again, and body pulls in close. What was the point of making it across if she froze here on the beach?

Frostfall came and Himitsu was thankful for it. She still had not adjusted to being on her own well and the weight lost had still not returned to her sides. The unicorn was grateful for her thicker coat that hid her less than satisfactory state. Nor had her attitude righted itself; it was as bitter as the wind of Frostfall and had just as much bite. Himitsu held no fondness towards those who had given her ill treatment. No she could not like them but the young mare also could not condemn them for she would do no different to them if she ever came across them again. Himitsu was not noble enough to offer Helovia's wicked hearted the simplicity of hate and was not wise enough to muster up forgiveness.

She had wandered into the Halycon Flats by mistake. The beauty of the land was lost upon her. The seabirds that called out were surely calling for Himitsu to leave their paradise. She gave up on her search for the way she had came simply to spite the birds. The weather was too cold to get wet so she stood idly where the sand rose slightly above the shallow water with ears spinning this way and that to pick up every frustrated sounding call.

For a while Himitsu enjoyed her game with the stupid birds. What useless creatures she thought them to be. Just Himitsu found all with wings to be. But eventually she did tire of their shouting. "Calla't." The first time that she told them to shut up was a growl. "Calla't! Calla't!" But she soon resorted to shouting. Their horrendous squawking was too much for her sensitive hearing. Snorting and bucking Himitsu fled from the unrelenting cries of the sky rats.

Her retreat began once more and she desperately tried to leave but was still unable to figure out which way she had came in from. Himitsu's search was ended shortly whenever she tripped over a body that she had missed sensing due to her upset.

She had felt how terribly soaked the stranger was whenever her legs had unexpectedly found the body. "Why are you so wet?" Himitsu had no eyes and saw no sense for offering the pretense of sight. Not whenever her lack of it was so obvious. So from where she had fallen Himitsu did not move. Her sweet mother, so concerned with what others thought, had made Himitsu face those who spoke to her face on. Aki had pleaded with her daughter, so few had been willing to see Himitsu as anything other than a monster and she did not want to lose those few. Now her mother was not around to utter such senseless prattle. Others would think what they would. Himitsu would do as she wanted. What Himitsu and those that she met chose to do would not change either. "Surely you did not swim." A deep frown came across her features. "To swim in Frostfall would be neci." A smirk came easily to her lips as she prepared to translate her own insult. "Foolish." Standing up Himitsu shook herself free of the water that clung to her coat; not caring if she further wet the one who still laid. The stranger was likely to greet her with unkindness so why should she offer any different?

OOC: @Adria your post was amazing! It gave me so much muse for all of my characters that it took me ages to decide who to post with. Caenan will probably come in too. Sorry that this post isn't all that great I am trying to reconnect with Himitsu.

Though the limp form of the ocean pearl lay still upon the beach, her mind still swam in the tossing waves. She had escaped the god again, but surely it was only barely so. Surely the wave which had tumbled her under had been his very hand and the current pulling her leg was his very magic. Yet here she was. Oh good god here she was. On Helovia. Somewhere new! She wanted to see, smell, and touch. Her wings wanted to shift through the sand on this beach which she had long stared out at. Nothing moves though. Her body was lock in the cold. Though her heart pumped on warm and strong, she still lay frozen. Why was it so incredibly cold!? The beaches and waters were never so cold at home. Why was it so here. Was that the sea god’s doing too? And so on her mind spun in helpless circles while her body slowly returned from the frozen death.

So you will have to forgive the poor girl when she missed the calls of the on comer to the birds. The shock of being tripped over was just as much of a surprise for her as the other. Her entire body jerked, and wings which were strewn about tucked close. The movement cost the dear girl too though. Her head was jerked up and instantly was stabbed by seeming ice shards. A moan left her lips, and she let her aching head return to the sand. She was also only vaguely away of a pain in her haunch where the other had kicked her and landed.

A question came rolled into her ears, like they were still full of water. The curled pieces twist and flick trying to hear. So wet? Her mind tried to make sense of it all, but as usual her imagination ran away with it. Or at least she though it did, because when she opened her eyes again and twisted her head in the sand she saw a surely made up creature. At first only the blurry image of a patch work horse came to her. It was part bay, part chestnut, part white horse. Had she been in better state the girl might have called it pretty. Why settle for one coat color when you could have them all! She floated along with her imagination, letting the image become sharper, until the details were revealed and unfortunate defect of this creature, the horned eyes, came into view.

Harks pin back and head rises slightly. The girl knew her imagination was wild, but this was not something she usually made up. A chill deeper than the cold ran down her spine to see such a frightening thing. The wind about her went absolutely still. Was this Helovia? A land of horn eyes? But the ones she met on the isle of Helovia were not like this. Perhaps this was another race…or this one was just...the one. Her fear paused. The wind at her back brushed it lightly Her wonderings kept her silent for a moment. Yet the second jump start of her heart and adrenaline was quickly returning her body too her, plus her wings, now dry and tucked close helped warm her body. The ice in her head began to slowly melt.

The deep voice speaks again and this time the girl’s fine head rises to hear it, though it shakes with cold. The words were harsh and colder than even the water. It hurt the child to hear. Even those small little words, such as being called foolish were foreign in her old life. She had lived so protected in her home that only her father had spoken illy to her, and even then never like that. Yet the girl was made of tougher stuff, as she had just proven. “I am not foolish!” Her voice shivers and shakes with cold, but traced with the defiant flare in the girl. “I made it just fine.” Now she seemed less certain. “Others do it...” She had seen others do it…but hadn’t that been months ago (in Autumn). Time had truly escaped her notice on the isle.

The child wanted to shake her head, to pull off whatever cobwebs lay covering it. Yet the cold still held her captive where she lay. The other got up and shook, leaving raindrops of sand and more wet on the damsel. Though she doesn’t react as expected. Her eyes close away, but unlike others in this land, she came from a different life and view, so says nothing ill of it. Instead what rolled in her mind was what usually did at encountering something new. Questions. Most of them which probably a smart horse wouldn’t ask like. “Are there others in this land like you?” Perhaps had she been more remembering of her older life she would have been more reserved and formal. The manners taught to her kept more forward in her brain. But here in this new world where things such as pegasi flying, and unicorns with horns for eyes walking were reality, she could not restrain the ever curious part of her. Even laying on the beach still shivering with the freezing cold, the drive to know and explore was strong. Indeed this girl is made of tougher stuff than first might appear.
