Why was it that Alysanne’s wanderlust always seemed to kick in during Frostfall? That had been how she had accidentally found her way to Helovia in the first place almost four years ago. This time, she was (fairly) certain she would not wander right out of this land and at least she was just being accompanied by some light flurries - not a full on blizzard as it had been back then.

Maybe this time it was a little more than wanderlust, she was just looking for any excuse to leave the Edge. She was trying to be better - a better mother for Naerys, a better Moon Doctor for the herd, a better sister and friend. And if the last year had shown her anything it was clear she was not going to get better while sitting in that herdland and hiding. She had everything now, she had no excuse to continue to ghost about.

But the habit had been formed and it was difficult to break.

Morning was turning to afternoon by the time Alysanne finally recognized where they were. “Told you.” came the deep, scolding voice of Hemlock as he swooped down to land on his usual perch between her ears. Her companion had a much better sense of direction than she ever did and had been telling her where they were likely going to end up when she had started walking. Well, she hadn’t believed him - not completely - and she shook her head slightly as a rebuke for his cheek, earning herself an affectionate nibble with his small beak on her dark ear.

Ahead of them, the rotunda stood out against the trees and bushes - even with the multicoloured glass hidden beneath a layer of snow. It was beautiful, if a little strange, and filled with warm memories for the pegasus mare. A good place to get out of the snow that was starting to fall heavier from the clouds, to shut herself off from the outside world. Literally. She had done enough, taking this venture out of the Edge, and her weary legs begged for a rest.

She brushed underneath a drape and entered the silent structure - the already muffled sound of the soft snow growing even more so as she moved into the centre, losing herself in the memories that this place beckoned from her.

”I should've given you a reason to stay.”

The Thief had always been fond of the Rotunda. Ever since she had first laid eyes on it, it intrigued her. She was curious to know how it got there and what had inhabited it prior to Helovians. Unless of course, it was a Helovian that had built it, in which case the thought boggled her mind even more. So as she approached it, a smile grew upon her face at the sight. It was always breathtaking. She had many memories here, the first time she met Rohan, the first time she sparred with Erebos. They had all been such different meetings, but each had their own special reminder within her heart.

But still, her heart was hurting. The talk with Johnny and small flirting frenzies had done little to fix the hurt within her. Even the talk with Kiuaji was still surfacing on the back of her mind, but the mare felt as though she needed to keep doing things to keep her from dwelling on such facts. If she was losing him, she needed to focus on herself – no matter how hard it might be. It was something she didn’t want to give up on but yet also something she had no control over. She couldn’t make him love her, even if she could.

With that in mind, the mare trudged ever closer to the Rotunda, marveling at the columns of ivory stone. Then a movement struck her curiosity. “Hello?” She questioned, ears perked to the cause of the sound, ashen hooves carrying her further toward the opening of the Rotunda. She caught sight of a beautiful painted Pegasus that was blessed with having a companion. She let the smile grow on her face as the Basin Thief dipped her horned head to the mare. “I hope I’m not intruding. I’m Rexanna.” She spoke gently, calmly. Prepared to leave if the mare wanted her to.

HEART SICK_AND EYES FILLED UP WITH BLUE

"I fucked here once."

Ampere's voice cut across the quiet conversation; simple and casual, not seeming to imply anything other than truth. She stood in the doorway of the place, looking in with an implacable expression, something distant. Maybe it was the memory of that moment playing again behind her eyes, or the unfamiliarity of the place that time had since displaced, as it was ought to do. In truth Ampere was just staring at the multicolored hues as they played on the ground, cast from the stained glass and the forest light that filtered through the tree branches. They were beautiful - wasn't that what she had told Bucephalus?

The hint of his name upon her conscious drifted like the fabric eaves of this structure. It reminded her of the way his mane fell against his neck, billowing like the curtains. She could still hear laugh as their game of chase carried on, and the entanglement it had ended as. He had been brushing dust off the sides, like so (Ampere leaned her muzzle against one of the stony walls), the love of his job obvious. She had teased him then.

She missed him.

Where did he go? Why hadn't she bothered searching, or even caring? His bird... his damn bird had set a divide between them, and then something else too, another part of him she didn't remember until it was there, loud and cruel. Had that pushed her away from him, or had he just never been more than this room and that moment?

After all, he wasn't the only stallion with another side and a bird. Mesec her heart complained, and she slouched against the wall with a sigh. Those same things had divided them too, but the difference was she was willing to cross it. She was also sure she'd look for him if he was gone, would chase him, corner him if needed. So what was the difference? Was he just more?

But why, she couldn't help but wonder. It was a pointless question though, an attempt at reasoning with emotions that were too carefree to pay any mind. It was the same way with Gaucho after all these years, ever since the oasis.
He didn't had a bird too, and a snake, another divide to watch and try to cross. At least he had only the one side, but she had to admit, she didn't know it very well. Had she and Gaucho ever just talked? It always seemed to devolve into screaming or fucking, or both, and if she bothered to count all the times, they were probably all her fault.

Oh, it might have been easy once, might never have become this. At least, she likes to think so, because that gives her some sort of anger to hold onto and wield like a knife against her heart. She thinks that if they, either of them, any of them, had simply not bonded that she wouldn't be caught between their greater qualities trying to ignore the awful ones (the soul-bound ones). Because once, back then when they had nothing but their own soul, she had loved herself enough to love them. Now?

Now her soul was just as crowded as theirs, and it seemed to have pushed all the love she had for herself out. When you don't even love yourself, it's awfully hard to love someone else.

It was these thoughts that drove her here. It seemed as if some sort of decision regarding the matter was imminent, especially after the incident. That was just it though, could she decide, did she have to? The frustration and confusion of it all made her feel reckless and rebellious, if only because that was easier than dealing with it. She was terrified of throwing down roots, but felt no better when cast adrift. Couldn't she just stay somewhere in between, dancing between land and sky?

They were like night and day, both necessary to turn the world - both needed for her world. The dawn and the dusk were perfect...

The pair were not left alone to their thoughts for long. Both mare and owl turned toward the sound of someone else approaching, on edge for a quick moment before relaxing. A stranger, but not a threatening one. “Not at all, company would be welcome. I’m Alysanne, it’s nice to meet you Rexanna.” It was nice to meet her although Alysanne realized her tone might not be entirely convincing so she quickly followed it with a smile, green eyes softening more completely.

But before she could inquire more about this golden mare, they were joined by another. She jumped a little bit when the voice cut into the air, stating a crude but not uninteresting fact about previous exploits in this place. Alysanne’s green eyes moved to find the voice, her eyebrows surely would have been raised sky-high if she had them.

There was something entirely familiar about the blue mare, though Alysanne couldn’t quite remember. She prided herself in being excellent with faces and names and yet here was someone who, in all likelihood, should be entirely recognizable - but the memory was hazy.

There was a meeting in the caves, when Helovia was hiding from the sickness, in a dark cavern lit only by fire from another mare and the delightful blue electric creatures that this mare had put out. A happy memory fogged over by the darkness that had soon followed - the beginning of the crumbling of Alysanne’s perfect, happy world. “Did you?” She supposed, if you were interested in that sort of thing, the acoustics and potential publicity would be enticing for this spot. Perhaps a little too public for Alysanne’s tastes, but perhaps with the moonlight shining through the roof…

A quick shake of her head dispelled any thoughts further down that line. Or, at least, most of those thoughts. “Well, how was it?”

”I should've given you a reason to stay.”

It was a slightly pleasant introduction, though she had a feeling that from the tone of voice from the mare seemed as though she was intruding, but the smile after she spoke seemed to confuse the Thief slightly. Instead, she offered a small smile and a flick of her tail. She opened her cream maw to speak to her in return before a voice cut across the air almost like a knife. Turning her head, she gazed upon a creature even more exotic looking than she. Here the Basin Thief was seemingly surrounded by wings and she couldn’t feel any more alone by them. It reminded her of Calstron’s palace where everyone seemed to bear those feathered appendages. Yet, as she gazed upon the mare she realized she had been staring. Her blue eyes tore away from the azure electric markings the new creature bore and instead looked over to Alysanne as she spoke.

Rexanna pursed her lips slightly at the comments. “Seems like a nice place for it.” She turned her head back to the electric mare that reminded her of Ilios by her smell. “Yes, do continue. How was it?” She questioned, an ear flickering to the electric mare. If this was going to be a gathering of talking about sexual encounters, well. Rexanna felt as though she’d probably be here all night – for her own endeavors. But she figured she’d leave it for the other mares to talk about unless they asked her. She wasn’t really shy about it. Judging by half of the Basin, she knew that there were others that knew of her promiscuity. Was that really a bad thing overall?

Though she realized it was such a bad thing. At least if things went back to Tembovu. As it seemed everything she did and said pushed her further away from him as she tried to push herself closer to him. Would he be upset if she told him she thought of him while with the other stallions? Or was it better to just stay silent?

Yet she didn’t even know if he would speak to her, so perhaps thinking of a situation where the words she might speak would be a waste of thoughts. So she turned her attention back to the two mares that bore wings that she didn’t carry. And the company of a companion that she also didn’t have. Perhaps she should focus on the other things in common between the two other mares here rather than focusing on all the differences? She flicked her tail as she waited for the ebony pegasus to speak.

Their inquiries about how the sex had been here were left unanswered, the blue mare retreating from the large stone structure just as suddenly as she had seemed to appear. Perhaps the memories weren’t as wonderful that they had sounded at first. “Guess she didn’t want to talk about it after all.” Alysanne chuckled softly, shaking her head at the departure of the blue mare. It was too bad, that would have made a good distraction - the story of just how that had come about. For her part, Alysanne always found it was the private moments that had turned into something more intimate - the small opportunities with those that she loved, in one way or another.

Not somewhere so open, where sound would echo, where anyone could come across them at any moment. In her time in Helovia she had learned that there was always someone closeby. Private moments, even when care was taken, were rarely truly private.

For the moment, at least, Alysanne was alone with the golden mare and while private activities were on the mind she let that smile stay in her green eyes as they turned back to Rexanna. “Well, I can’t say I have any exciting stories to top the one we just missed out on… but what about you, Rexanna?” Her tone is light and teasing, hopefully making it clear that there was no requirement to answer the question. She craved lighter conversation like this, the gossip that could be made between friends (even if they had just met). Far better than the heavier, destructive thoughts that had been tormenting her mind lately - the shouting matches and secrets that had taken over and crippled her.

Maybe she would be lucky and Rexanna would need this light-hearted conversation as much as she did.

”I should've given you a reason to stay.”

Rexanna turned her attention to the painted mare, vaguely noticing the blue mare as she dispersed from the group. A small frown passed by her maw, but at the sound of the Pegasus’ voice beside her, the Thief couldn’t help but to laugh. “I guess not. Sounded like it was going to be a good story.” She smiled, letting her gaze drop from the mare to the stone of the Rotunda. Her ears flickered with the birds as they chirped, thinking over all the different possibilities that the blue mare’s story could’ve been. Deciding not to dwell on it, she was partially thankful for Alysanne to distract her from them.

Shaking her head with a small smile, she offered a rolling shrug. “I don’t think I have many exciting stories. Uh, I guess perhaps sleeping with someone while still covered in blood from the crocodile rift god is exciting?” She questioned, turning her golden head to the Pegasus mare. “Perhaps in another world things would've ended better.” She offered another shrug, trying to mention it in the means of her relationship and not the crocodile god battle. Her eyes straying away from the mare as she remembered Tembovu – Remembering being sick with the Labyrinth Lung and mistaking him for a nightmare from her past.

She tried to push the thoughts aside, letting her smile return to her face that couldn’t match her eyes. “Doesn’t have to be related to sexual endeavors, but fun stories are fun either way. You got any?” She questioned, shifting her weight on her left. She allowed the golden chains to slide across her face, hiding her brow briefly by the gift from the Elephant King.
