The stallion smiles as he strides slowly beside the beautiful cream lady. His silver eyes dart to her every once in a while, making sure she doesn't have anything she wished to, um mime, to him. The trip had gone rather easily for him, even though he was used to flying everywhere. The hybrid stallion was used to flying everywhere instead of walking. His mind shrugged inwardly for a moment as he watched the dirt slowly bleed into the sand. He smiled and turned his silver eyes upon Lani, "I hope you like it here. Everyone I have met has been very nice and helpful." He smiled warmly looking over her beautiful face. "We'll have to wait on the shore for someone of higher rank to accept you, but I'm sure ti will go smoothly. How could anyone turn you away?" He winked playfully as a deep chuckled rolled form his lips. "We're almost there, would you like a quick run?" He grinned hopefully and pranced in place.

Sure he might seem foolish, acting like a colt again, but he was sure she was nervous. 'Who wouldn't be nervous? I know I was.' He smiled softly at the memory before turning his thoughts back to her. Unable to keep himself under control any long the ivy masked stallion threw his body forward into a smooth canter. He laughed and flicked his large head hoping to draw her into the run. "Come on!" Rumbling laughter erupted from his lunges as he charged down the sand. Pricked ears easily picked up the gentle whoosh whoosh of the waves tugging at the sandy beach. He longed to be home, longed to bring his first recruit to her home. He was positive the mare would be welcomed openly. Within a few minutes the stallion curled his rump under himself, causing sand to fly up in large rooster tails around him. He smiled turning to find out how close Lani was behind him.

After she caught up the stallion smiled brightly silver eyes twinkling. "That's the Dragon's Throat, way out there." He paused to point with his muzzle, "Are you ready?" He smiled softly and dipped his head towards her neck, trying to gently brush her cream hide. Pulling back he turned towards the island floating out in front of him. Taking a deep breath he called out. He wondered quietly who would show up, would it be Gaucho? Thoughts of the large imposing fiery bay stallion swam through his mind for a moment before he turned back to Lani. "It'll all be okay, just take a deep breath and smile." Soft lips turned up in a reassuring smile.

The trip to the Dragon's Throat of which Ilios spoke passed quickly and without incident.  The ivory mare walked easily beside the teal stallion, listening eagerly to anything that he chose to share with her, greeting his words with enthusiastic nods and smiles.  Every now and then, particularly excited by a new animal or plant or landscape, she would prance happily in place, her tail flagging behind her and her neck arching joyfully.  She was a happy creature, despite her rather unfortunate past, and it showed in every line of her body, with every movement that she made.

The forest around them stretched ever-onward, growing even thicker for a time before they emerged into wide fields of thistle and shrubbery.  Her light blue gaze took it all in, down to the tiniest detail, thrilled to be able to explore at her leisure, protected by a stallion who she internally proclaimed to be a knight in shining turquoise armor.  Each time she stepped cautiously away from him, intrigued by this or that, she quickly returned, snorting and shy, to his side, periodically brushing her nose against whichever wing was closest to her, as though to reassure herself that he was still there.

Eventually, the thistle gave way to grass, and then dirt, and then sand, and the mare knew that they were growing close.  Her heart began to beat quickly in her chest - how did Ilios know that his kin would accept her?  What if they were all colorful and intricate and winged, like him?  She would be little and less against the likes of them - why would they want a plain, dull, boring mare to join their beautiful herd?  The more she began to think about it, the more anxious she became, until she began to jog uncomfortably, almost in place, her tail wringing with nerves.

When Ilios informed her that they were nearly there, and that they would have to wait on shore for her to be accepted, she cocked her head quizzically to the side.  What did he mean, on shore?  Why did they have to wait?  She didn't particularly like the idea of having time for her mind to run away with her, dragging her unwillingly to dark thoughts and deep fears.  And then he complimented her again, and she didn't know what to make of it, and before she could really consider her tumultuous emotions, he was playfully asking for a race.  She obliged quickly, grateful for the distraction.  A nod and a grin graced her dished visage, and then she leaped into a canter, following closely as Ilios began to run the shoreline.

They ran, flying along the shore, for once just a pair of horses.  Their color and their race no longer mattered, and the mare felt truly free for the first time.  The wind whipped through her mane, tangled in her tail, stung against her eyes - and she welcomed it all, pushing herself to run faster and faster, never quite catching up to the stallion in front of her, but keeping up all the same.

When he tucked his hindquarters underneath him, she swerved around him to avoid a collision and slowly brought herself back to a canter.  She circled around, tossing her head and bucking playfully, finally slowing to a trot as she approached him again.  A mischievous smile graced her features and her ears were pricked eagerly forward.  He had successfully gotten her to forget her nerves and her fear, and her bright eyes shone with admiration and pleasure.  When she stopped before him, she reached to bump her nose impishly against his shoulder.  She would trust him; if he said that this would be her new home, then it would be her new home.

@Ilios and whoever will accept her! :D

Patrols, once an easy drill to perform, a welcome duty that signified herd life and family, were now awful. The coasting and scanning of the grounds below gave her too much time to think. It wasn't very physical work, and so well practiced she didn't put much thought into either, she put them all elsewhere instead and hated it. In her youth she'd been able to take to the skies and lighten her heart on the eddied and the thermals, but no matter how quick she flew or how long, her troubles stayed with her, as much a part of her as her shadow, and Kygo.

The bird flew alongside her, using her slip stream to keep up, though he often tired faster than she and retired to some tree branch below to wait for her - but he always tried, which she would find admirable if she ever paid attention to it. As it was, he was one of the troubles she was often trying to escape, so she spared him as little notice as possible, which made him infuriatingly demanding for her attention.

He noticed the pair on the shore first, his eyes better than hers. His quiet quip and unwelcome flash in her eyes of what he was looking at alerted her to them. Though she was none to happy to have found them through Kygo, she was desperate from any distraction from herself. Quick as a whip she angled on her right wing, cutting sharply through the distance as the wind pushed differently against her. Her tail fathers fanned to flow her while her wings reached back to cup the air as she came in to land before them, not bothering to circle above and analyze as was her routine. She didn't care who it was, it was someone that wasn't tied up in her mess of a life and that was good enough. They could be invaders for all she cared, it'd be better than her own head space.

Not invaders, she noticed as she settled in the sand, blue gaze lifting towards the horses. "'Lo Ilios!" she greeted, attempting to put on a smile and some charm. Fake it 'til you make it. "Who've you got with you?" she asked casually, her head tilting with inquiry. Unabashed her attention washed across the stranger, probing for strength and weaknesses with a militant purpose that was out of habit more than judgement.

The trip had been long, but more than bearable. Even though Lani couldn't talk the stallion didn't mind; her beautiful nature spoke more than words ever could. He smiled as she paused once more to investigate another plant. Every time her hoof steps would quite the wings male would slow, allowing her time to catch back up. Longing to know of her past filled his thoughts as his ears picked up the happy sound of her moving again. A soft smile touched his face as he looked towards her. She reminded him strongly of his sister; Areli was upbeat and always smiling. Longing pierced his heart causing the smile to waver sadly for a moment as his gaze fell towards the slowly changing ground. Shoving the thoughts away his deep drawl sounded, "Lani, do you have any siblings where you come from?" His head tilted slightly wondering if she ahd left a family behind. Bright eyes saught her dished face, eager to catch her reaction. After she replied he spoke again, "I have a little sister, boy is she a handful." Laughter bubbled warmly from tender lips. "She doesn't live in the Throat, but I think you would like her." A warm smile brushed his face again as he watched the mare.

When he saw her pretty head cock the stallion smiled softly, "The Throat is a Island. Remember when I told you about the Basin, and how nasty they are?" A pause for her response, "Let's just say it's a blessing it is. Anyway, that means we have to wait for a higher rank to come and accept you, they have someway to get you across, I guess." He felt unsure since he had never seen how the Equines made their way to the island. There surely had to be some way for them to get there, and a leader had to know. "Don't worry, it'll be okay."

A playful smile spread across his face as he they ran across the ground. Wind ripped at his long forelock and two-toned tail. The stallion couldn't remember the last time he had actually ran, he usually flew everywhere. His legs churned eager to be on the final stretch of their journey. He had to give her some credit, for trying to keep up. He knew, with his stocky lineage, that he wasn't the fastest creature ever. A laugh ripped from his chest as they finally drew to a stop. "I guess I really should give you a warning before I do that, huh?" He grinned teasingly his sides heaving more from excitement then exhaustion. He laughed again as she bucked playfully and trotted back to his side. Smiling brightly he accepted her teasing bump and offered his own, muzzle trying to bonk her shoulder in return.

Being caught up in playing can backfire quickly, lucky for the pair they were close enough to home that they were safe from most harm. A call caught his attention causing his horned head and ears to jerk up. A bright smile covered his face, "Ampere, it's a pleasure to see you again!" He leaned closer to the cream mare beside him, trying to reassure her, whether she needed it or not. He dipped his head low to the black and blue mare showing her the respect she deserved. "Ampere, this is Lani. That's not her real name, but her nickname." He paused for a moment as the short mare inspected Lani, "She can't talk, but she makes up for that in her willingness. She wishes to join the Throat." He smiled softly casting an affectionate look towards the dainty cream mare as he fell silent.

Lani, do you have any siblings where you come from?

The question brought a jolt of surprise to the mare's heart.  Her face fell suddenly, and she shook her head.  Even if she had been able to speak, that might have been all that she managed, assuaged suddenly by the memories of her parents' disappointment.  They had blamed her, after all, young and naive and innocent though she was, for her mother's inability to bear more children.  They might have replaced her, if they had been able; tried again and hoped for a child that was neither plain nor boring.  But alas, they were stuck with her:  an embarrassing misfit that could not be introduced to polite society.  Better to hide her away and never reveal that they had brought such a humiliating little brat into the --

She shoved the thoughts aside.  Her eyes refocused on his face, and she smiled tentatively as he began to speak of his sister.  The mare wondered what it was like, having someone of whom you could speak fondly, someone you could rely on, no matter what.  It was clear that Ilios adored his sister, and Xolani found herself wondering if she would ever meet the girl.  Where did she live, if not the Dragon's Throat?  Why would they not live together?  And what of their parents?  Was it normal in this land for families to be scattered to the winds?  How often did they see one another?  Were the herd lands that Ilios had mentioned close enough together to visit that often, or did one simply wonder for seasons whether or not their family was all right?

Ah, to be able to ask such burning questions!

But there was much to learn, and she did not linger for long on the burning desire to be able to speak her mind, as any normal creature could.  The Throat, she learned, was an island, and as they drew closer, she noted that there was, in fact, a great piece of land off the coast where they walked.  She pricked her ears forward, her pain momentarily forgotten, and grinned at him, imagining that their journey across the waves would be yet another exciting adventure.  At his mention of the Aurora in, however, she sobered slightly, nodding her agreement that it was indeed a good thing to be separated from the mainland.

And then, they ran.

She needed no warning, no careful waiting for her agreement - she was built for speed and endurance, with a mind that longed for the spontaneous.  It was with great pleasure that she leaped into a run, never overtaking him, but at least holding her own - and it was with a spring in her step and a grin on her face that she returned to him playfully.  The mirror of her gesture was met with a brief fluttering in her chest and a surprised pleasure in her eyes, for she had never been privy to such easy displays of affection before.

The arrival of another sent her scuttling behind Ilios, peering carefully around his wing.  The mare who greeted Ilios was beautiful and winged, black tinged with an electric blue that drew Xolani like a moth to flame.  Again, she wondered how she would possibly fit in here, she who was nothing more than a pale canvas - Ilios and this Ampere were both colorful and lovely, intricate in a way that the equine mare could never hope to match.  She quailed before the magnificence presented to her, worriedly wringing her tail as she shuffled slightly closer to the teal stallion.

Little did she know that her coat had began to shimmer with a pale yellow-green, apprehension stirring in her gut.  The shapes were ill-formed and vague as they danced across her coat, splattering like water and then falling, disappearing and reappearing as though a gentle rain washed along her spine.  The color stayed that same yellow-green, save a smear of teal every now and then, a glimmer of yellow periodically - colors of awe and of submission, dancing in intricate patterns across her pelt.

Ilios introduced her, and she nodded with a tentative smile.  A faint orange joined the greens on her pelt for a moment, indicating her interest and anticipation, but it broke down quickly, overwhelmed by the mare's anxiety.  She wanted to speak out, to ask for her own acceptance, to beg to stay - where would she go, after all, if she were to be turned away at the gates of her future home?  She knew no one and nothing besides Ilios and his Dragon's Throat, and there was no more for her in this land than there had been in her old one.  She swallowed hard, hope and fear warring for attention in her mind and on her pelt, greens and yellows and oranges vying for their place.

Please let me in.

OOC :: Xolani's passive magic is beginning to manifest! :D She is completely unaware of the fact that there are colors on her coat atm, and there are no shapes yet to show her thoughts - those will start to show more clearly in the next few posts or perhaps her next thread ;D

Ilios was a wealth of information, and his words quickly drew Ampere's focus back towards him, her smile genuine as she listened. "Always a pleasure," she returned not un-truthfully, nodding in response to his own. She noticed his lean towards the stranger, and wondered faintly if they hadn't already formed some sort of relationship. Assuming he had just recruited her, stranger and recruiter tended to form a friendship of sorts; half of the reason any horse joined a new herd was appreciating the horse that led them home - but this seemed like more than that already. Her grin broadened.

What he had to say however shed a different light. "She can't talk," he explained, and she blinked, her gaze drifting towards the new girl as if for confirmation. She had found it odd that he introduced her by a nickname, but perhaps she had preferred it. Now she wondered how he'd even chosen that name because clearly the girl hadn't.
Then, was their closeness also because of pity? She remembered how protective Einarr was over the patched up Leadere, how they'd leaned on each other too during that sad excuse of a meeting. Her smile fell into a mild frown.

She might have said something she'd have regretted then, if not for the way the mare's coat danced with new colors and markings, which Ampere only noticed when her gaze had shifted back to her. Even as she frowned her eyes widened in surprise, the blue of her gaze trailing the different splash and spills of color. It reminded her of the way Kygo communicated, each emotion a pungent hue that flashed behind her eyes, painting her mind and her feelings too.

Her mouth opened to ask the girl something, but just then Kygo caught up to her, to them, as if summoned by her thoughts of him. "ELLO!" Kygo repeated proudly as he circled over them all on quick wings, trilling his own greeting that echoed Ampere's words, and her voice too. "ELLO ELLO ELLO!" he squawked, while sunbursts of happy and self-congratulating oranges purples blossomed in Ampere's head. Her ears fell flat instantly, Her open mouth swiftly twisting into rebuke. "Shut up!" she commanded of him, but this only seemed to encourage the conure, who quickly shifted to parrot-shrieks, as if he were arguing back with her but hadn't yet learned her words to use. Thoroughly embarrassed, Ampere's anger melted away, her feathers which had ruffled up smoothing out as she struggled for composure. "Sit here if you must you silly bird!" she exclaimed, offering her withers to him since he had no tree nearby to perch on. He gladly took her offer, normally not allowed to touch her.

He quieted easily as he flapped onto her hide, a single happy trill gurgling from his thought as his tail feathers wagged. He set about to preening himself, still proud, while Ampere huffed.

"Sorry," she murmured, her sights set back on the two before her. "I was going to ask, Lani is it? I was going to ask if your colors had any certain meaning - Kygo here, when he communicates to me likes to use certain hues for certain feelings - not always the ones I expect either." Kygo's head turned rapidly at the sound of his name, his feathers puffing up as he bobbed his head back and forth as if dancing.

He smiled warmly at the mare beside him. She was beautiful even in her plain way as she watched the silent mare. Even though she couldn't talk he felt a pull towards her. Amazed by everything new, smiling, trusting, yet cautious, Lani was wonderful. He wondered vaguely if he had made a new friend, or something more. Either way it didn't matter, she needed him to stay focused and strong. He knew all to well that Ampere could be intimidating, even if she was tiny. He had to fight back a chuckle as he pictured the tiny mare scaring someone much larger, Archibald. Sure he hadn't seen it himself but it was easy to imagine. In his mind the black and blue had the monstrous stallion quaking under her rage. For now he stood beside the pretty mare lending his strength to her, even if it was just with his body. He turned to smile encouragingly at Lani trying to ease her out from behind his bulk without words. He could clearly see how nervous she was meeting Ampere and he feared she would have trouble with the rest of the herd. His ivy masked face creased slightly in concern, until she shifted closer.

A smile wafted over his face as he turned back to Ampere, and was rewarded with generous words and a genuine smile. He grinned back brightly, it never hurt to be on the good side of such a high ranking and powerful herd member. His black and teal horned head dipped in acceptance. He wondered why she was grinning so mysteriously before he glanced back at Lani.

Silver eyes pulled wide in surprise as the colors shifted over her pelt. He had spent quite a bit of time with the mare and had never noticed that before. His mouth opened and a screeching "Ello!" came out. Confused he snapped his mouth shut and looked around confused his ears flickering to the sides. He hadn't made that noise, had he? Quickly his sharp eyes found a beautiful parrot was swooping around them. Laughter rumbled from his lunges as he watched the feathered creature squawk at Ampere as if arguing. Once the creature had landed upon Ampere's back and smiled at the bird. "Hello. My, aren't you handsome?" He smiled brightly at the colorful creature. He had learned, via Penna, what it meant to companions to be greeted just like a horse. He had more than a few times, been pecked at by Penna for being rude.

Still smiling he shifted into his kind gear watching the colors shift over Lani's pelt. He listened to Ampere's words before glancing nervously at her. He had no idea how Lani would react to the magic that was affecting his pelt, or so he assumed. "Lani, I was with you for quite a while and I never saw this happen to your pelt. It's okay though. Remember how I told you about the magic here? I think you have been gifted with some of it now. It is a great honor in Helovia to have any kind of magic." He fell silent watching her with a kind expression upon his handsome face. A warm smile spread across her face as he stood beside her hoping to ease any worry she felt at the flashing colors.

XOLANI
Oblivious still to the colors dancing on her coat, Xolani watched Ampere carefully for any sort of reaction.  The pale mare had accepted that Ilios liked her, for some unfathomable reason, and that he was perfectly content to be around her, as strange as that was.  She did not, however, know Ampere, and the blue-streaked mare had no reason to like or accept her into the desert herd.  Having relied on body language for years as her primary means of communication, the little Arabian mare was particularly attuned to the subtle shifts of facial features that accompanied the thoughts of most individuals.  Ampere seemed pleased to see Ilios, offering him a genuine smile before turning her inquisitive look to the ivory fae.

As Ilios explained Xolani's predicament, Ampere's smile began to falter, turning into a slight frown.  Xolani immediately began to shift uncomfortably, panic beginning to rise in her gut.  She knew that Ilios had been too good to be true, that not everyone in Helovia would be as kind and accepting as he - but she had hoped nonetheless.  Teal humiliation mingled with the green terror on her hide, interspersed with dull purple swirls of rejection.  The colors were growing brighter now, but the mare remained unaware.  A dark red with the slightest hint of pink betrayed her anger at herself - why had she thought things would be any different here than they had been at home?  If it wasn't her plain coloration, it would be a problem that she was mute - there would always be some way in which she was lacking, in which she could not live up to the expectations of --

ELLO!

The voice made her jump, a brilliant green streaking across her pelt with surprise.  A small bird circled overhead, screaming a greeting.  Xolani watched with apprehension evident on her features, never having seen a talking bird before.  Ampere quickly scolded it, claiming it and inviting it gruffly to her withers.  The pale mare watched nervously from behind Ilios, leaning to the side to peer curiously at this strange interaction.  The yellow-orange that accompanied the feeling on her coat was short-lived, giving way to the constant swirl of greens and blues that were particularly strong given her current situation.

The two pegasi began to ask her about colors, and the mare looked from Ilios to Ampere with confusion obvious on her face.  She hadn't the slightest clue what they referred to and, fearing that they were playing a trick on the plain, mute newcomer, she glanced suspiciously to the side, expecting to see nothing of interest on her coat.  Imagine her surprise when she found a myriad of color blossoming where there had been naught but a few stray bits of sand only moments before!  The greens grew in number and intensity, reflecting her bewilderment as she shied away, realizing too late that she was headed directly for Ilios's flank.

@Ampere, @Ilios - Pare, do you want to start up a new thread for them (or PM me to), since I believe Blu is on absent and I wouldn't mind going ahead with Lani?  I already talked to Blu to get her into DT and everything, so we could start something up and say Ampere went about her patrol?  :3
