Brisa & Hikari

Moving with a spring in her step the grey mare eagerly made her way through their homestead with her bonded in tow. This was the final time she would be needing to make such a journey, but with that said she would likely be there regardless of if she had to or not. Res was her friend, one of the few in fact and she liked to keep in touch when she found extra time apart from rounding up newcomers and helping with other herdly tasks. There was so much to think about and so much to do, she could only hope that she might be lucky enough to have a couple helpers for the impending build. Glancing down to Hikari she felt her heart swell knowing that the little kitsune would try her best to help out but with her size there was not a whole lot that she was able to do. Her heart was in the right place and that was all that mattered because regardless of what she did she would always be a precious piece of her own heart and soul.

Kicking up her heels playfully as she charged forward she couldn't help but feel a little bit excited when her building project came into view. Currently it wasn't anything too impressive but it at least had four straight walls, a doorway and a bookshelf! All that it needed now was a rooftop to keep out the moisture and sheild its contents from all weather ailments. Over the past couple weeks she had been stressing about how she was going to manage to build a roof when she was severely lacking in the height deptartment? Even if she were standing on two legs it wouldn't be high enough to place a roof would it? Sliding to a stop a few inches from the constrution she craned her neck back to stare up to where the rooftop was needing to be. Maybe she could reach it... just maybe...

Snorting and shaking her head she tried to clear away the self doubt and set her mind to a more positive tone. She was going to do this whether she had to kidnap Archibald and use him as a ladder or not. Taking a deep breath and closing her eyes she relaxed her mind and reached outward trying to find the peaceful nature of her magic. Gently grabbing hold she felt the wind wash over her as the deep rich scents of the earth rushed to surround her in a magical veil. Taking a moment or two to just enjoy the lustrious aroma she finally reached out to find her materials and sense them before her. Now she was ready to begin.

Pulling and pushing the logs into place with the help of her magic it really didn't take as long as she had expected to begin to hoist the beams upwards. Balancing around on two legs to try and support as much of the weight as she could she relied upon the trust she had in the earth to help with the things that she couldn't do. Hikari was actually able to help out much more than she had expected. Lifting her up she was able to walk around the tops of the secured walls and help to fasten the beams into place using vine so that they would not fall down. While she was nervous for letting her do something so potentially dangerous she had to take a displeasurable step back and just let her help where she could. By the time it came to the smaller logs she had almost perfected the balancing act of walking around two legged, well almost. Pausing to wipe the sweat from her brow she took a few steps back to admire their handiwork thus far into the rooftop construction.

This was taking a toll on her with the strength it required to keep up with the magic but it was well worth it to stop and look at the almost finished project. Sighing with relief she was super happy that things were turning out the way she had been picturing. Only a few more finishing pieces and it would finally be finished! She sure hoped that Resplendence would be satisfied with her new healers hut. Smiling she pulled her strength back and set to work on finishing the rooftop with Hikari's help.

She really cannot believe she’s about to build a roof for a hut. This is so far from the mare she was born to be. So far from the siren she was, so far from the mare that lured men into the sea with the mere sound of her voice, so far from the immortal she could have been.

How had she fallen so far? And how hard would it be to begin to climb back?

Oh just stop it.

The questions were irrelevant. The what if’s and the could have been’s and everything in between. This was her life now. Building huts, of all things, for a collection of good-two-shoes that lived to make sure others lived long, healthy, happy lives. Ha. The irony in that is pretty great, actually.

She feeds on that train of thought as she follows Brisa around like a well trained puppy dog. In the distance, the waterfall rushes to the earth, the sound of crashing water calling her name. It was emotionally, and quite possibly physically, killing her to stay away from the water this long. But horses – plain, boring, simple horses – do not live in the water.

There’s a small pool nearby though, and she cannot help but excuse herself from Brisa for a bit, keeping tabs of where the mare is heading, and figuring she’ll catch up soon enough. But first, she slips into the pool, the warm water turning her legs and underbelly purple and red and pink. Her sigh is audible, contentment washing over her just briefly. It is not the sea, and she cannot stay here, but the moment in the water renews her determination.

By the time she’s out of the water and manages to find just where Brisa has disappeared off to, the gray mare has the better portion of a roof built. Thank the Earth God, she thinks. The idea of walking around on two feet and lashing logs with vines actually makes her shiver just slightly. Maybe she’ll learn to love it.

Ha.

“What can I do to help?” she says, skipping over the obvious pleasantries where she should be impressed at what Brisa has accomplished, or something like that. The thought doesn’t cross her mind. Offering to help is about the best step she’s going to manage today, so they can take it or leave it just like that.

Brisa & Hikari

Struggling with placing the highest beams the pale mare groans out of sheer frustration as yet another attempt fails. If only she was a little bit taller... if only in her dreams. Well her options were limited at this point but before she went too much further she needed a break to cool down and rest. Rescuing Hikari from her roost up on top of the walls she gently lowered her head so that she could reach the ground without having to jump too far. Moving into the shade of one of the tall oaks she takes a refreshing breath of air letting the earths magic fade away for the time being. While it felt incredible to wield such a power, it definitely took its toll on your strength and stamina.

The walls had not been a laborious as the roof was proving to be given that it had to be lifted to a much greater height. Maybe she would have to try and track down Archibald the makeshift ladder after all. While she hated to bug him about something that she was able to do but physically incapable of doing, the roof needed to be finished. Standing in the peaceful quiet for awhile she felt her energy slowly begin to return to her body giving her what she needed to give this another shot before having to call in the Calvary to make up for her height issues. Hoofbeats caught her ear just as she began to reach out for the earthly magic once more. Turning her head she was glad to see that Syrena had returned to give her a hand like she had said she would earlier that day.

"If you could give me a hand getting these last few pieces into place that would be amazing." She responded motioning to the remaining pieces on the ground before her. She was glad of any extra help and it would be great to possibly have someone else interested in crafting that she could bounce ideas off of. Hikari came bounding over once more to try and lend a paw causing a grateful smile to cross over her features. Hoisting Hikari back to where she had been perched before she once again returned to two legs to being to lift the final beams into place. "So after we are done here do you have any ideas of what else could be helpful to build for the herd?" Figuring it would be good to talk and work she threw out the question hoping Syrena wouldn't mind.

Two legs? Really? She’s never walked on two legs in her life. And honestly, as the gray mare pushes herself into a standing rear, Syrena laughs. Not at Brisa, just because she really had never imaged herself here. Standing on two legs lashing logs together. How far the great have fallen indeed.

Though in a weird way, it did feel good to laugh. Even if she’s laughing at herself.

Not that she explains this out of place outburst to Brisa. Instead, she manages to get herself on two feet (albeit terribly ungracefully, something she hates – she also hates sweating, not that anyone can tell on her perpetually wet coat). She totters rather terrible toward Brisa, thankfully a bit taller than the crafter and able to reach the places the other mare cannot.

Syrena takes her cues from Brisa, lending a hoof and teeth wherever she’s needed, not pretending she has any actual idea what she’s doing. Brisa keeps talking, asking what else might be good to build for the herd. Honestly, Syrena paid little mind to what the herd even had here, and she has no idea how much has changed since she’d been here a year ago. “Well, what else does the Falls have right now? If the healers get a hut, maybe there are other ranks that want building?”

Though hell, maybe the healers were the only ones that didn’t have a building yet. She wouldn’t actually know. The realization of how alone she’s really been (her own fault, no one else’s) settles in at this thought. How had she expected to regain any of what she’d lost without trying at all? Perhaps this is a good conversation for her, some revelation of how much she’s going to have to do and learn, how much she’s going to have to change.

Maybe it’d be better to go back to wallowing in self-pity. No. Stop it. But instead, she stays there, perched on two legs, trying her damdest not to look like an elephant stopping around. And trying not to break the roof. There’s an honest possibility she might. Poor Brisa. What a terrible potential crafter she’d picked up.

Brisa & Hikari

Standing on two legs was a lot harder than it originally seemed. When one was so used to spending time on four trying to do the opposite was damn near impossible. By the time the last piece of the roof slid into place she was completely exhausted and was needing to take a long break. Looking up to their finished masterpiece she smiled happy that this time consuming project was finally completely finished. The roof was solid and would hold up for many years to come ensuring that everything beneath its canopy would be totally dry even if it rained. Lifting her head back up one last time to help her bonded down she took a few steps back to view the entire project as a whole. This was definitely something to be proud of and she couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in her work.

Turning back to Syrena again she gave her an appreciative smile. "Looks like we are all done!" She enthused happily. "I really appreciate your help thank you." Taking a deep breath she finally allowed the remaining earth magic to drain from her veins and scatter into the atmosphere until another time. Yawning the grey mare shakes her head forcing herself to ensure that she stays awake for a little while longer. Hearing Syrena's question it took a minute or two to come up with a response as her mind was giving her blank gaps where there should be answers. It was surprising how much work it was to wield the earth's magic and get it to do stuff for you. Before she had not felt it as much for her projects had been small but now that she had completed a large project it was taxing.

"So far there are not too many projects that have been completed but we do have three prison cells, the healer's hut and Isopia has her own hut with hot tub that she created. I've thrown out a couple ideas but so far not too many others have shown much interest in them."

She’s not entirely sure how Brisa has managed to put so much of this together on her own, on two legs nonetheless. Syrena’s half dead on her feet by the time they’ve finished, and if she’s being honest, she didn’t do that much. Though she’ll take credit for it anyway, because she needs credit. The entire point of breaking a sweat (and her back) is to start making something of her life, to try and move past what she was and become something, anything.

This isn’t really what she had in mind. She wanted something glamorous, something that let her sit in the water and relax. She wanted, probably, Isopia’s job. But let’s be real, she wasn’t getting that job (she'd have to learn respect, if she were to go speaking with Gods, and that might be more of stretch than learning to craft). And moreover, would it ever help her move past the ghosts of her sisters, the phantom moments when she thought she still had her siren’s voice?

No, probably not.

That didn’t change what she wanted. But at least, she found some satisfaction in this crafting thing. It was awful and she felt sweaty and gross and disgusting. But it was something. Something she had made, of all the hell-freezing moments in life. Something that, in a tiny flicker of emotion, she was almost proud of.

“Of course,” she says, voice still lacking much emotion, as if helping someone put a roof on a hut was no big deal. Which is a giant lie, particularly for Syrena. Doing anything other than mournfully staring at the sea was pretty much a cause for celebration in the gray mare’s life. It wasn’t much. But it was a start.

“What of the warriors and sleuths? Could they use some sort of practice ring? Something that could serve as both a battle ground but also a place to train the mind. A maze, maybe?” Her words are still deadpan, but perhaps faster than they might normally be, almost as if there’s some excitement in there. Not quite, but almost. Truthfully, she’s too exhausted to think about much of anything else, and she can hear the waterfall calling her name.

The mare waits a beat, letting Brisa respond, before adding. “Would it help if we both just slept on it? I wouldn’t mind helping some more, after a nap.” After a nice long bath. But she doesn’t add that part.
