A small spark ignited in Ru. Fleeting and irregular. She traversed the Dragon’s Throat with a skip to her trot, bounding energy as she recoiled against the expanse before her. Restless, as she made her way south on foot for a change, veering west to inevitably cross paths with the Arena.

No- she had never seen anything like it. Helovia would continue to provide her surprises, with what appeared to be an unlimited cache of discoveries. Endless opportunities, she thought; there was mystery in these lands, history left untold. Perhaps… she would set her mind on such things. Investigating the causes for the world and why it was.

Her darkened, sooty limbs stilled. Those bright, pastel blues gazed forward and up along the outside plating of the arena. The ember, that source of light dwindled down within her. Instead she regarded the arena with a quiet curiosity, one that had changed over the course of her stay in the Throat. It was still and steady, meek in her stride as he followed the arena’s edges. Breathing in the air, searching for any familiar scents. Though there were none she could plainly distinguish. Foreign and dusty.

An opening appeared, drawing the youth closer, tempting her further in as she peered into the other side. Odd structures jutted out from the ground. Metallic, as the sun bounced sharply from their angles, branches pointing towards the sky. Ru inhaled once more, catching very brief, subtle smells littering the earth. The air was dry, and it was hard to tell how long they had been there.

Having scanned the inside of the arena (from where she stood), and finding no one, she proceeded forwards. Her senses remained piqued, simply because she didn’t enjoy the fact that she was without any mane or forelock, a little stub of her tail; simply covered in skin and her winter coat. They had been itchy a few days ago; now they throbbed, speckled about with the formation of small, white feathers. Too sparse to tell; she felt naked nonetheless. Like a hairless rat, slinking through the arena.

Taking a deep breath and puffing it out, she smiled lightly and started off at a full run. Swerving in and out of the metallic trees, maneuvering through the earth with her wings opened wide. Sometimes angling with a sharp turn, or snapping them back to her body. They would never catch her!

The day was more than halfway over. The sun wavered as it hung above. Weak rays threatened to lower. The sky was clear today, despite the whimsical gusts singing in between the metal. The heat of the mighty star, blanketing the youth when she was not covered by the arena’s shadow.

Aelin

Why does the eye see a thing more clearly in dreams than the imagination when awake?

The sun was sinking. The girl's eyes watched as it dropped lower in the sky, of course her thoughts were on her twin. By now his magic would beginning to stir, along with his fear of it. To be trapped that way, trapped in fear of yourself. Yet if he wanted to go off on a self-finding mission then let him! Aelin would be here when or if her ever returned. That was how a sibling should act. Turning her gaze from the sinking sun she spied that disturbed land up ahead, a curios smile lit up her lips. Who one earth was playing like that? With a few mighty beats of her wings she pushed off from the ground and glided over to where the dust was being kicked up. Aelin had always felt safer in the skies, since she'd begun flying it'd become her favourite thing in the world. Up in the skies she was free.

A small filly was playing argots the trees, Aelin hovered above the girl, watching closely. The young lassie seemed to be having to time of her life! Leaping, turing sharply and enjoying the cooling lands the filly played alone. Slowly Aelin swirled into a decent heading towards the playing girl. Landing a few meters behind the girl she took a moment to observe the other. They were either the same age of close enough that the few months between them hadn't made any difference. Both had left behind the awkward early stage of foal-hood and begun to fill out as yearlings. The two girls also shared a large amount of many similarities, it was almost unnerving. Was this another sister of hers that she knew nothing about? No, this girl's build was different. Their bodies weren't built the same way, she had the slim and lethal lines of her parents, this girl did not. Like herself the girl was a lightly shaded dun, their bodies mixed shades of yellow, brown, orange and gold. Aelin's legs and barring was darker however, closer to Gaucho's black. Their markings also differed, sparkling and multicoloured specs decorated her coat. The other's hair was a dark brown, with the ends a diluted yellowed highlight. Lastly the girl's hooves were black, holding her upright and proud. Lastly her white wings were the major difference between the two, Aelin's matched her coat while the girl where white, a stark difference to the rest of her body.

"Hello!" Crossing closer on foot she approached the other with a smile. Now getting closer and studying the girl closely she wondered if the two were actually as similar as she'd first intended. Wondering if the other girl had been born in Helovia or if she'd simply wondered here and was in need of a family. Well, she certinally fit well into the Throat. Aelin moved closer still wondering who this girl was, always willing to meet new comers.

Dream as if you'll live forever,
Live as if you'll die today.

There is the joy that cuts into the air with squeals and chirps. The pinched, heightened cacophony that bounces from the arena’s harsh edges, and the bare skin of the perches hovering above. Presumably lifeless, have now taken the forms of sharp talons. Hands that waver with the wind, every intention to rip and pull the yearling apart!

She jumps to avoid the fingers that nearly graze her wing tips, kicking out in a hurried protest. Moving, always moving before they honed in on the vibrations of your pause – from the heavy pounding of your heart, to the elastic reverberations of the lungs. Move Ru, move! Another racous laugh escapes her darkened lips with a loud bark. Believing that mother was also chasing her. Nearly holding on to the delight of what that life had been; Ru continued to drift farther away from reality. Embracing its warmth like an old, worn blanket. Savoring its scents, the fluttering of memories that pass by with the sound of ‘mother’s voice’. The rush of excitement fills the adrenaline with the drive and desire to pulse, and amplify the girl’s solitary fun. She is alone but not lonely – for the time being – she could savor the silence, and the hunger for company that only loneliness could absolve.

There is a shadow that she cannot ignore; rather, it sends a shiver down her spine. Caught in-between the fallacies of her mind, and the ground reality inhabiting the world around her. Bright coral eyes sway, scanning her playing field. It was then, as she cringed at the idea of having been caught that the yearling raised her gaze sky-wards. Slowing her pace, she catches the other making their descent upon the earth. The flutter of feathers, and the gaze of one who might be appraising an ancient relic; either way, it was uncomfortable at the foreign voice greeted her. Especially as the pretend world faded away, and all her insecurities seemed to be crawling back with a vengeance. Ru simply nods back, though; finds the other girl’s pursuit somewhat alarming.

Without realizing that she had, her ears flattened for a moment, as she turned to face other. Ru seems to ignore their similarities for the time being, shuffling backwards with a sharp, warning trill. She was beginning to feel belittled by the gaze that ran wherever it wished. Wondering if the girl found her hairless neck amusing, or odd, or… ugly and grotesque. The youth would have rather had the fluff of her previous mane, then the absence of; the throb of the white feathers poking out from her skin seemed to burn, underneath the guidance of two dissimilar orbs. Like a dog caught underneath the scrutiny of his master, the hairless tail pressed close to her.

At least she could sense that the stranger may have been somewhat older than her, or nearly the same age. Gangly limbs just about filled out with that robust nature of her stride. A purpose, and an unknown desire appeared to guide the stranger closer to her.

Before allowing the stranger to get any further, Ru had had enough. She squirmed within and raised her wings up, leaning back on her hind limbs so very briefly, as her forelimbs kicked out in a flightly warning. Harmless, with no intent of injury.

What did she want? The girl snorted, tossing her head as she fell to the ground. Raising a quizzical brow at the other.

[just as a note: her mane and tail are molting XD so no forelock/mane/tail, just hairless and little feathers poking out. Sorry if I didn't make that clear. Must work on that >< .]
