I’ve become a simple souvenir of someone’s kill
She couldn't go home just yet. Not after the encounter with her son, how she nearly electrocuted herself to prove a point to him. If he was headed there, which she began to doubt at this point, she didn't want him to see her in such a vulnerable state. The Thief heaved a sigh, returning closer to the area of her home but finding refuge within the towering trees that hid this day's sunlight. It was warm, the heat of the sun heating up the tree tops but not quite making it past the thick shade each branch and leaf had participated in creating. It was still cold in the shadows, but overwhelmingly warm as she stepped into the sunlight. Rexanna let her gaze trail across the face of each tree and took note of the little scratches and scars that had been marred into the bark. It had always been a place she never felt quite comfortable in, but lately she found it hard to feel comfortable in any place.

Meanwhile, Marembo felt difficulty in trusting that Rexanna wouldn't stick him in dangerous situations ever since the encounter with her son. And so, he chose to lead the way - straying away from riding across Rexanna's withers. His snakelike body hopped over rocks and branches that had littered the floor with ease. He only chose to rest when they made it to what appeared to be a small clearing. The trees here were just saplings, growing from the aftermath of likely a Tallsun storm. It was oddly silent, aside from a few chirps from a couple groups of birds off in the distance. Rexanna felt no need to speak and disrupt the quiet solitude that seemed to envelope the forest this afternoon while Remy had decided to keep his squeaks quiet as well, attempting to practice his hunting. While Rexanna moved over to where the grass was the thickest, Remy had wandered in a direction of shade and undergrowth to try and catch some food for himself. Lately, he had found his appetite leaning toward lizards, frogs, and snails as they made their appearances in Birdsong.

The gilded Thief let her ashen hooves carry her to the center of the clearing, lowering her exotic striped face to it and bit down on a small amount of the grass, pulling it from the earth. She didn't feel hungry at this moment, but she rarely did anymore. Her cream and golden hide seemed almost stretched over her bones, her hips poking out as she began to lose her winter coat that had done a great job of hiding her muscle loss. The chains she bore did a great job of removing the fluff that had accumulated during the long Frostfall, and so some patches along her back had been shedded successfully of the thick fur. She tried to pay no mind to the itch that she had from the winter coat, instead trying to enjoy the pleasantly beautiful weather. Still, she did her best to keep her attention on herself and Remy as the polecat hid and began to wait for the insects and lizards to find their way into his trap.

"Talk."
And like the sea—
I’m constantly changing from calm to ill.
