The sun rises, just as it does any other day except it takes time for its warmth to spread; heating the ground and everything else with it far slower than it did merely a week ago. The cooler and far more pleasant temperatures are a welcome change from the practically unbearable heat of this past Tallsun. Yet, the change in temperature doesn't just signify a new season; it also marks the arrival of the odd-eyed boy's first birthday. Somehow, Caine has managed to survive. Despite his father... no, scratch that... sperm donor disappearing after the day he and his twin sister were born. And despite his mother running off to the mainland with the hopes of some sort of purpose or whatever it was that she was doing. Somewhere deep down in a place he barely even acknowledges, he misses them. He'd sooner argue that the worst disappeance of all was that of his twin sister than to admit that he cares about the disappearance of his parents. On the surface, though, he's brimming with independence and compensating for his loneliness with an overabundance of confidence. Hell, he doesn't need any of them anyhow. Or does he?

The island had been fairly quiet of late, offering just enough shelter from the hurricanes plaguing the southern oceans for a yearling colt to survive. And with the onslaught of hurricane season, there'd been fewer visitors for him to hide from - peering at them from the bushes or from the relative safety of the trees like some sort of curious wild boy. Like Mowgli, except he's a horse with wings instead of a human boy. Caine remained on the island, never finding any desire to leave the only place he's ever known (and though he wouldn't likely ever admit it, the biggest reason is because he still hasn't learned to fly and swimming across was a definite no go). By now, the colt was intimately familiar with the Riptide Isles. His hooves had explored every inch he could possibly find, and as the seasons ticked by it wasn't just his outward appearance that changed and developed - his eyesight also grew stronger. By his first birthday, his ability to track things with his eyes had improved drastically. He could finally track moving things without getting sore eyes or blurred vision. Maybe it was a good thing his sperm donor missed the odd-eyed boy's first year. Surely his small defect would have been the center for endless disappointment and feelings of inadequacy that would undoubtedly result in a strained relationship built on a foundation of contempt.

Caine meandered about the Isles - each and every day was the same; the same trees, the same bushes, the same monotonous shades of green and brown and blue. Nothing changed, nothing shifted. And, perhaps the most noticeable, he saw neither hide nor hair of his parents or sister. At this point, the colt presumed them to be gone for good and unless he somehow taught himself to fly, odds are he'd die on this island - alone, just as he'd been for so much of his life. It's a funny little predicament, really. It's almost as though he doesn't really exist.

A soft, though fairly sarcastic, chuckle escapes his lips at the notion as eyes of teal and silver scan the open shoreline of his home. The winds were calmer this morning than they'd been lately and though that typically led to more visitors, the shore and sky had been oddly quiet and empty. With only a little hesitation, the colt slips from his safe place amongst the trees to wander the shore. The boy holds his rather large, sleek wings to his sides with the hope that the feathers would add a little extra bulk to his otherwise lean frame. He relies on this particular deceit in an attempt to avoid physical confrontations (gods only know he'd lose if it ever came down to pure brute strength). So the boy is vigilant as he moves along the shoreline, his dual-toned gaze ever watchful for a potential threat.

Isopia

Perhaps the only one who knew these isles more intimately than she did, was the boy below. Though he knew them for vastly different reasons than Isopia did.

The demi-goddess came to these land masses out of responsibility and obligation. It was her Father after all who had harrowed these islands into being, and it was she who had dealt the final blow to the Tiger Goddess who had come out of the Rift to defend her claim on these lands. Now, she saw it as her duty to patrol these lands when she could, to ensure that nothing untoward was happening.

Nothing ever had, but Isopia was nothing if not diligent. She knew there was always a possibility of trouble lurking, and so she never shirked her duties.

The Mountain flew high over the isles, gliding on the warmer air thermals that still lingered above. Although most of the thermals had narrowed over the land masses, here where the ocean breezes and currents were still prominent, it was still fairly easy to fly. It was from this vantage point that both Isopia and Hubris spied the colt below, but it was Hubris who seemed particularly interested.

>>Why boy alone?<< He wondered into Isopia's mind. Uninterested, the demi-goddess shrugged in midair, content to continue sweeping the land to see if there were any tiger deities lurking about. Undeterred by this, the bronzey dragon dropped from the skies, gliding towards the solitary winged boy below. With a single exhale of annoyance, Isopia dropped from the skies as well, flying towards Caine.

The earthen girl landed gently upon the earth, following in the wake of her dragon. The bronzey dragon happily flew towards the colt. His scaled face was parted in a smile, as he trilled a bright hello to the boy before him. >>Tell him I say hi, and ask why alone. << the young dragon demanded, casting a blue stare over Caine's shoulder, to where Isopia was approaching.

"He says hello, and wants to know why you're here alone." Isopia said, her voice the equivalent of a dial-tone, from behind the colt. Hubris nodded enthusiastically as he looked up at the colt, still smiling.

Isabella was currently in her flying deer form flying a head of him bleating happily as she went. He was faster than her, but sometimes it did the young heart good to have a confidence boost, so he allowed her to race on a head. A small smile touched his lips as he 'chased' after her playfully. She dove up then down, and he followed copying her movements with ease. She always had a way of making him feel better. He smiled and put on a little more speed to catch up. 'Why don't you find somewhere for us to land?' A bleat was his answer as she circled an island below them. The stallion followed her his eyes on two bodies below them. To his great surprise she landed on the same beach as them, and pretty close. Usually she avoided strangers, so this was very odd for him.

As they touched down she shifted to her silver wolf form and looked up at him. His eyes roved over the ivy marking on her face for a moment as her emotions bled into his mind; confusion. She looked at the small form just a little down the beach then back at her bonded. His brow furrowed slightly before they started to move. The worry eased form his handsome face as they strode down the sand. A smile stretched warmly over his face as Isabella trotted next to him.

As he neared the pair his eyes roved over the much taller mare for a second before they switched to the colt. His heart stopped for a moment as he took in the dished face and blue coloring. Was it possible? Isabella touched his leg sharply with her bushy tail. His horned head dipped deeply to both of the horses before him,

"Hello, it's a pleasure to meet you both. My name is Ilios of the Dragon's Throat." He smiled kindly but his silver eyes were mostly turned towards the colt. Isabella watched the dragon curiously with her golden eyes. He paused for a moment allowing them to share what they wished before speaking again. He addressed the colt throwing caution to the wind, "Is your mother Parelia, by chance?" That sure got Isabella's attention. Her eyes snapped to the colt her ears pricked eager to catch the answer. Ilios had no way of knowing, but the colt did smell similar to him.
