If I told you about my favourite dream
[The one without you]
Would you spit fire at me?

When Merida had finally spilled on the identity of Aaron, Dacianna realised that this girl had been here before, had family here, and probably knew more about Helovia than the roan did. Mirage the DragonHeart. She certainly sounded like a mare one would like to meet and the scholar made the connection with her and the glass dragon that stood in the Edge. Perhaps that was why it was there; a statue to remember a great Queen by. "Ah" she said when the golden mare explained about her Uncle and Dacianna was reminded about her stark gap in knowledge compared to most. "I have not seen the DragonHeart either—" she remarked with a sad smile, feeling a little inadequate as a Philosopher in regards to her knowing so little “I haven’t been here very long” the roan tried to explain. Forgetting she was going somewhere with this, Dacianna threw a sudden curious look towards Merida, thinking of the glass statue “was she a great Queen?” she asked, her gold eyes sparkling with intrigue.

Despite her ignorance, the scholar’s hook had caught another for the second time and she smiled brightly when the girl asked to be lead home. A surge of joy filled her chest and the satisfaction of victory eroded away her previous downcast feeling; the fish could keep its egg, Dacianna had found new family. Her hooves sprang into action and she began to walk westwards, towards the Edge, ushering the girl and her fox to follow.

Along the way Daci made conversation, or well, she talked a lot (it was one of her few skills in her arsenal). The roan's remarks drifted from the weather to the way her red sash annoyed her by rubbing on her neck, she also asked questions here and there, looking to exploit the knowledge the girl she was leading might possess, and expand her understanding of Helovia. “Why did you leave?” she asked at one stage in their journey, wondering if it was a bit too much to query the young mare on her past, before she followed it up with “have you been to the Worlds Edge before?” she wondered out loud.

When finally the Philosopher spotted the glass ruins that marked the beginning of the Edge, she cast about to try find the gaze of her recruit and gestured to their surroundings. "Welcome home Merida; Miles. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. We must wait, however, for another of greater authority than me to officially accept you” she smiled before raising her dark mouth to the sky and calling out for any nearby who might be able to help.

@Merida sorry for the wait Em <3 I'll prod the skype room for someone to come accept :3

"I have not seen the DragonHeart either—" I frown slightly. Surely wherever the DragonHeart is, that is where my Uncle will be. His loyalty to her had been stressed by the old mare, as it had been stressed to her by my mother. “I haven’t been here very long” "Ahh, well that explains it then." Perhaps the DragonHeart and my Uncle, along with others who were loyal to the Qain.... Or was It Qian? Maybe they had left the Edge for another herd? I mean, it's been years since my mother's death and my birth.... and even longer than that since Mother had been in Helovia itself. Life has gone on without my Mother, it had to. Otherwise I would still be but a child, Miles a babe...

No, life had moved on and it seems so have those I longed to find in the Edge. At the very least, I will return here and call it home. “was she a great Queen?” I sigh softly. "I would not know. I was not born here, my mother was. This is my third time coming to Helovia. The first, I met my Father. The second, was looking for both my Uncle and my Father... This time, this time I feel is for good. Or at least until I do what I came to do." Couldn't be more honest than that really. Not without having to explain a very long story. One that I am just not fully ready to face just yet.

We talked as we walked, and by far I enjoy the company. It has been a long time since anyone has taken any real interest in just talking with me. Not without having some sort of agenda. But suddenly the topic changed. “Why did you leave?” I look away. I don't like to talk about my Father's herd. But maybe, I should. More need to know, just what some are capable of. How twisted some were. How twisted I had almost become. "The first time I left, I was only a child. Miles was barely a couple months old... I think I was just shy of a year. I left with my Father, on one of his trips to check on his kingdom as he called it a long way from here. I stayed, simply because I allowed myself to cling to the only family I had found." I stop talking for a moment, long enough that Miles prods me mentally to continue. "You would not of liked me, if we had met the second time I crossed Helovia's boarders." It was a stark and cold statement, but true. "My Father and his herd had warped my view of those with horns and wings. You see, my Father believes that only equines should be supreme."

I stopped again, letting my words sink in. "I gave up quickly, and returned to his herd with no intention of ever returning. I had given enough time into trying to find my Uncle." I smile softly. "It's probably a good thing I did. Because I got to see how my beloved father really was." My voice took on a dark tone for a moment. “have you been to the Worlds Edge before? I shake my head no, and continue on with my story. "My Father, is not only an equine supremacist. But a male supremacist as well. The males of the herd always out rank the females. Specially those who have bonded with dragons. Now don't get me wrong. Females that bond with dragons are held in high regard. Higher than those without a dragon. Even I, being bonded to Miles was higher than those who have not bonded. But I was lower that those with dragons, and the males of course." I stop suddenly. I am saying far to much. "I am sorry. I am sure you did not intend to listen to part of my life story... I am, not used to someone talking to me without reason..."

At long last, we arrived. The broken glass must mean something as she spoke suddenly. "Welcome home Merida; Miles. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. We must wait, however, for another of greater authority than me to officially accept you” I merely nodded, and Miles moves to stand on my withers. Time to see if I am good enough. You will be.

we heal with love

Normally, their great and bothersome king met with the newcomers at the border - a fact which made Alysanne hesitate before making her way over toward the two mares after she heard the call. She rather preferred the method of avoidance she had adopted with Tembovu ever since their last conversation, ever since her talk with Iona after the meeting. Being aware of the fact that her feud with the king was at least partly fuelled by her inability to handle anger at all hardly made it any easier to be around him. He still aggravated her still, that couldn’t be whisked away in a moment or two of clear thinking.

But she wouldn’t let the risk that he’d barge in, even though she had ever capability to accept a newcomer, keep her from saying hello the grey mare from the Rift and the new friend she had with her.

Shuffling her wings along her back, Alysanne set out with a warm smile already in place (coming easily the closer she got, genuine for Dacianna and the new mare as her mind eased) and approached the pair - moving gracefully over the land as she had never been able to do in the air.

“Hello Dacianna! I hope you've been well?” As always when she crossed paths with the grey mare, Alysanne felt happy to see her getting settled into life at the Edge - life away from the Rift - so well. Hemlock was happy to see her as well, thrilled for any interaction that brought a smile to his bonded’s face instead of a scowl lately, and stirred in his bed among Alysanne’s feathers to offer a quick hoot of a hello before going back to sleep.

Green eyes of the painted pegasus turned to the unknown girl. “And hello to you as well! I’m Alysanne, one of the healers here. Can I help you two with anything?”

If I told you about my favourite dream
[The one without you]
Would you spit fire at me?

Dacianna listened well to Merida who answered each prying question the scholar fired at her. Except, with each bit of story the girl gave the more Daci wanted to ask more of her. What had she come to do? Was it just to find Aaron? Yet, if Dacianna had asked every question that had popped into her head they might not have gotten to the Worlds Edge very fast— if at all. As the roan’s mind wandered so often did her feet. There was a moment in their conversation, however, when she almost stopped to stare at Merida incredulously. What kind of father would poison his child’s mind as such?! The belief that one species was greater than another was not something Dacianna had come across before, but believing that a male was greater was something she could relate to a little more. That kind of segregation had existed in her old herd too and it hurt her heart to hear the same kind of tale from another. The more she spoke of her father the more her mouth wrinkled in distaste— how tragic that he had come to view life through such a narrow-minded vision. “Your father must live in a small world” she had commented quietly, trying not to succumb to the raging rant that could’ve so easily have slipped out, but she reminded herself that he was still this girls father; even if he was a arsehole.

After that, however, Dacianna had briefly turned to Merida with an encouraging smile “it must have taken courage to leave and come back here, you’re much greater than your father,” she had offered truthfully. It took great bravery to go against ones own family and fight what you once believed as truth. A dragonless unicorn mare Dacianna thought— she would be the dirt on this girl’s father’s hoof. “Don’t apologise, you can always find me if you need a listening ear” she replied, or someone to talk your ears off she thought with amusement.

After her call a familiar face appeared and Dacianna sent a beaming smile towards the friendly Doctor. “Alysanne! Hemlock!” she happily greeted the pair before nodding her head to confirm she was indeed quite well “are you?” she asked in return. The scholar then took a step to the side and turned her attention to the two she had escorted.

“This is Merida and Miles, who have come to join us here in the Edge” the Philosopher introduced then fell silent, leaving the rest to Merida, not wanting to speak for the mare too much.

There is a new scent at the borders— one he does not know. And another he does. Dacianna. Had she been recruiting again? The blood-red, winged stallion floats through his mind. He was glad the Rifter was bringing others home to the Edge— It had been too long since he, himself, had visited the Threshold. The gold-decorated woman had been active around the Edge lately, and the Elephant King was equal parts relieved and delighted that the roan was finding a home within the herd.

These thoughts, distracted and relaxed, stayed his hooves for too long. So it was with surprise that, when his ivory hooves finally reached Dacianna and the newcomer, that the good Moon Doctor Alysanne was there.

Warily, his navy blue eyes watched her elegant, ebony face, trying to judge if he should speak or simply nod a greeting. Was the Doctor’s tongue sharpened today? The warm smile and happy words that she spoke to both Dacianna and the new mare gave him hope that he might not be subjected to angry glares or stinging words.

So he nodded his head in greeting, low voice rolling shortly after Dacianna’s introduction of Merida and her kitsune companion, “Hello, Dacianna. I am glad to see that you’ve brought another to call the Edge their home,” his lips parted in a genuine smile as warm eyes turned from the roan to the new mare, finding emerald eyes set bright against a tawny face. White dusted her back and graced her silken, thick tresses, while her legs darkened. He glanced towards the bright kitsune, briefly wondering if her bond with the fox-like creature gave her as much grief as his bond with Mbwene did.

The elephant in question tottered forward, bright blue gaze eyeing Alysanne equally warily, before fixing on the Kitsune. She trumpeted a short greeting to Dacianna, before fixing an interested gaze in the fluffy, multiple tails of the mythical fox. A gesture of her trunk motioned that she would like to investigate to see if they felt as fluffy as they looked.

“I second Alysanne’s welcome to the Edge, Merida. This is Mbwene, and I am Tembovu, King here. Is there a trade you wish to pursue while in the Edge?” His deep rumble paused for a moment, before he cautiously addressed the black and white beauty, “Hello, Alysanne. I hope you are doing well.”

“Your father must live in a small world” I listened in silence. “it must have taken courage to leave and come back here, you’re much greater than your father,” I stared in shock. Me, greater than my father? “Don’t apologise, you can always find me if you need a listening ear” I let the topic drop with that and a simple nod. Was my father really that small minded? He always seemed to have some sort of plan in the works to make equines supreme. But maybe, well just maybe that is exactly what makes him small minded to begin with. I won't say I love the horn heads or feather brains myself.... But it's all I've ever known. I think talking with Dacianna is the nicest I've ever been to someone non-equine. Because it is.

It was as if I had no sooner had the thought of being good enough, than here they came. First was winged mare, black and white in color. She was joined by an owl who gave us a hoot but did nothing more for the moment. “Hello Dacianna! I hope you've been well?” Of course she greets the one she knows first, it makes sense. They speak with each other for a moment. But her attention soon turns to me... Not sure I am ready for this but ready or not.... “And hello to you as well! I’m Alysanne, one of the healers here. Can I help you two with anything?” Thankfully, Dacianna steps in for me before I can speak. “This is Merida and Miles, who have come to join us here in the Edge” I offer the little unicorn mare another nod and a smile in appreciation.

Before I can get any word in at all, another arrives. This time, it's a stallion who even towers over me. This I find unsettling, as this is a new feeling for me. “Hello, Dacianna. I am glad to see that you’ve brought another to call the Edge their home,” He smiled, and I wanted to believe it. But at the same time, I had seen almost that exact smile on my father before. “I second Alysanne’s welcome to the Edge, Merida. This is Mbwene, and I am Tembovu, King here. Is there a trade you wish to pursue while in the Edge?” He continues on to speak to the pegasus mare. Finally it seemed all eyes were on me. Hesitantly, I stepped backward. No! You can do this. Do NOT run! Miles screams in my mind. So with a deep breath I try to settle the nervousness and speak. "I was told that my Uncle was a Glazier here once. I wonder if it would be any trouble to try and follow in his path?" I am lucky that the old mare knew so much. That my mother had told so much about our family. Maybe one day, that would lead to me finding my family. Till then, I would do the best I could to serve my home.

we heal with love

“Yes, thank you.” Alysanne responded happily to the question from Dacianna, feeling that it wasn’t a total lie because she was feeling incredibly well in this moment.

Before Merida got a chance to speak, they were joined - of course - by their king. For her part, Alysanne tried to ignore Tembovu beyond a small nod at his arrival. She caught the wariness of his gaze, as if she were a snake ready to strike at any moment, and it made her sick that she might have such an effect on someone else. She squeezed her sides with her wings, as though that could hold her together - as though that tender shield of feathers, flesh, and bone would shield her from the anger of the Elephant King she worried ghosted under that surface ready to flare and burn with a moment’s notice.

Not here, not in front of others.

Her green eyes were guarded but soft as she kept them trained on Dacianna and the new mare, Merida. It wasn’t missed how the golden mare took a small step backward, though she did not draw attention to it. Was the crowd too much? Perhaps it would be good to speed this along, without too much chatter.

Alysanne’s expression and eyes were soft and hopefully somewhat encouraging as Merida explained that her uncle used to be a Glazier. “How wonderful! I’m sure that would be no trouble at all. Who was your uncle?” Her mind sought out the male glaziers she had known in her stay at the Edge - Aaron, Dragomir, and Tembovu she thought, no other names coming to mind immediately. It seemed unlikely that Merida meant the one currently in her company.

The belated hello startled her, but Alysanne turned her attention to Tembovu long enough to offer a small smile and a nod. It even felt genuine, but perhaps it was just leftover warmth from interacting the mares. “Well enough, thank you.”
