The sun sinks below the horizon, leaving heavy orange rays filtering over the landscape in the dying hours of the light.  The thinning grasses of the south retain an emerald sheen in the burning sun, not quite touched by the punishing hand of summer.  Walking through the grasslands, a delicate porcelain doll.  The shadow beside her grows long in the rays of the sunset, dancing amid the swaying of the grass.

Zyanya travels once again from the Aurora Basin in search of answers to questions she never realized existed.  The heat of the south sat uneasily on her coat now, having grown accustomed to the thin chill of the northern air.  Something remained comforting about the warm embrace of the sun, reflected in the pale gold of her back, giving way to the cool ice of her legs.  Perhaps, a memory of her former home; the memory of flesh upon her skin; the memory of sweetly spoken words of your beloved family.  She did not know for certain.

Her quest to learn of Helovia remained prominent in her life, however, determined to make something of herself in this life.  The will to become more than a wallflower, decorating ornate halls and being the glimmer in some stallion's smile.  The will to be worthy of her place in the Aurora Basin.  Something to cling to in this new life.  Much like Thranduil said, she simply needed to dive into the deep end to find it.  Here she was, staring into the Heart of the realm, her eyes fixed upon the burning fires and the dark chasm of a cave on its side.  A slender path leads from the grassland toward this cave, and the heartbeat in her chest begins to pound.

She walks along the path, hooves slip, and downward she falls into the burning embers below.  Her flesh burns away, her organs fade to ash, leaving pearly bones that crack under the heat until she is nothing more than dust in the wind.
An image that runs prominent in her mind as she hesitates at the top of the path, eyeing the flames with caution and fear.

You worry too much, darling, the glint of a smirk replays in her mind's eye.  Timidly, a hoof takes a step, followed quickly by a flurry of others.  Nearly at a sprint, she makes it to the mouth of a cave, only to slide to an almost immediate halt once in the darkness of its maw.  Much to her surprised delight, the cave is not very dark.

Flames of molten lava slide down the side of an encasing crystal of sorts, unable to ooze into the floors of the cave.  The dripping of water echoes over the walls, spires spin from the ceiling, reminding her of the tall towers of the castles back home, only reversed.  The light in the caves undulates from the lava pouring down, creating the sense of movement in a still environment.  After taking a moment to gather herself, Zyanya begins walking once more, exploring the large room hidden below the earth.

Strange, definitely strange, but what in Helovia was not?

Honey, you're familiar like my mirror years ago,
Idealism sits in prison, chivalry fell on its sword

The day grew long and Sacre’s thoughts stacked up on top of one another, the key to the Throat, tied in his mane, was beginning to weigh down on his mind. He should go back, return the key to where it belonged, but he didn’t know what he would say to them, his friends, when he did. He should take it back, he would take it back, he was just procrastinating over it as he stressed about how he would be received. What if something had happened in his absence? Another tragedy he hadn’t been there for, like his mother and sister. He walked, paced, away from the Worlds Edge, each day blurring into each other until he reached somewhere that was familiar and he realised he had unknowingly been following the route back to the Throat. He was in the Heart! Helovia’s Heart. It was late evening, the sun retreating from the world and relinquishing its warm rays to the cool light of the moon. Just like Sacre had, from the throat of the Dragon to the mists of the Goddess.

He had been here a few times, mostly on patrol and once to escape the wraith invasion when he was just a little boy—they had been cramped in there for a while. It was also the place where he had found an egg and Inari had hatched. A warm, fond smile spread on his lips as he glanced at the red fox who had been his first blessing of two and Sacre remembered it vividly. His memories of this place, whilst it had been a time of fear, where happy and bright, full of new friends and warmth.

Sacre, not really knowing exactly why he was here, began to make his way into the cave system, deciding he might as well make the most of it whilst he was here. The familiar glint of fire and the glow of crystals welcomes him in as the heat pierces his coat and warms his body—the furnace of Helovia. He was not alone, however, and he made a small noise of surprise when he spotted the light coloured mare who sported a horn, but there wasn't an awful lot else he could gather in the dim cave lighting.

"Hey" he called out to her before getting any closer, hoping he wouldn't frighten her whilst his two foxes peered from behind his two hairy forelegs, wondering who the new face was. "Cool place isn't it" he smiled and nodded to their surroundings, the sparkling gems making way for many different passages that led to many different rooms. When he had taken refuge here, Sacre had made a point of exploring as much of it as he could, though he often got distracted by the crowds that had filled it.

"I hope I'm not intruding, my name is Sacre, do you mind if I accompany you?" he boldly asked, excited to find out who she was and what had drawn her to the underground maze of Helovia.

Hey.

A flinch runs through her body unwillingly, for the voice was not a harsh tone, but an unexpected one.  Quickly, her tiny face jaunts around, taking in the silhouette of the newcomer.  From the build of the body and the deep melody of his voice, she guesses a stallion.  From behind his legs, the shadows of many tails project, reminding her instantly of Lena's companion.

The billowing glow of the lava casts a fiery light upon his face, handsome in its structure and dappled with a smile as he speaks.  He is tall, yet compared to the tiny porcelain figure, most in Helovia were.  Not much else can be gathered from the firelight, but Zya believes him to be dark in coloring, especially compared to her own hue of a morning winter sky.  Easing her stance, Zyanya turns to face him, cerulean hooves leaving little echoes dancing amid the humid air.  "Yes," she answers his likely rhetorical question, thinking this place was indeed 'cool'.    The glimmering crystals, the warmth of the fires, and the mysterious winding tunnels of the caves.  An interesting place to find yourself quite by accident, but interesting nonetheless.

My name is Sacre, he introduces himself plainly, and the pale maiden smiles through her nervousness, hopefully silently answering that his intrusion is welcomed.  Unlike Thranduil, his voice is soft and warm, making her heart open and flutter, feeling quite delighted to be in his presence.

"I am Zyanya of the Aurora Basin," she returns, her voice floating easily like a leaf in the wind, and just as delicate.  "Who are your friends?" she asks boldly, turning her eyes to fall over the tailed shadows beside his legs, a warm smile upon her lips.  Ever since her playtime in the ocean with Haldir, her heart warmed toward companions, feeling that they were quite amazing little creatures.  Before Helovia, Zya never would have thought to keep the company of anything other than unicorns.

"Do you know this place well, Sacre?" her voice musing as her lavender eyes turn toward the shining walls and waves of fire dancing down the side of the crystal.  The first room entered is quite large, something unexpected when arriving here from the outer rim of the Heart.  Zya wondered why such a large room of gems and fire existed below the surface of the earth.  The hidden treasure in the sand seemed a waste of beauty, but perhaps the distant location made the Heart Caves all the more beautiful.  Maybe, her tour guide would have the insight she needed to make a decision.

Honey, you're familiar like my mirror years ago,

”Zyan” …  ”YA!”

Her name echoed around Sacre’s head as his two companions repeated it back and forth between themselves—the playfulness of foxes. They almost seemed to grow in size when she asked about them too and began to twitch excitedly, they were after all much more important than their half-wit friend.

”Tell her, tell her, tell her…”

It went on and on in his head until Sacre smiled at the pale mare from the Aurora Basin and introduced the two, if only to stop the noise in his head. ”Inari and Ríona, a fox and a kitsune. The most cheerful creatures you might ever meet” he laughed fondly, perhaps too cheerful, but then it wouldn’t be his two friends if they weren’t overly friendly. As if being released by the mere mention of their names, the pair trotted forwards, eagerly but cautiously, unsure as to whether they might still frighten the girl. Once they thought they were close enough, a flurry of tails reached out to the Basin unicorn with their primary aim to brush against her legs—a gentle touch of two curious vulpine.

However, Sacre was now more interested in the question she asked, her voice was delicate and he warmed to her easily. ”Yes—well—a while ago now, there was an invasion of wraiths in Helovia and most had to hide here to escape them until the Gods cured the problem…” he paused as his mind went back in time. Despite the desperate circumstances Sacre had met a lot of new horses here, a few new friends and discovered an egg. He actually didn’t remember the period that harshly, in fact, he discovered a lot during it. The whole ordeal wasn’t that long ago, in terms of time, but Helovia often seemed agitated if it wasn’t drowning in some sort of drama, so much so, that the Wraiths felt like a lifetime ago.

“It was quite cramped in these caves for a while… but there’s different rooms you can go in, would you like to see?” he asked, ushering the way to one of the side rooms that held etchings of history. He went silent for a moment, allowing her time to respond, he was actually quite curious about the mare too. Was she new? How did she find the Basin? Is it still the same? With her being a unicorn, it was hard to tell if the Aurora Basin was still as it once was, maybe he would get the chance to ask later. Did Lord Deimos still lurk in the mountain range? Was there a bright red stallion with two white stockings called Roux there? Sacre wanted to sigh, how long would fate keep them apart? He wanted so desperately to find his twin brother again.

“I used to live the Basin too… Do you like it there?” he asked.

ack I almost forgot this thread, so sorry for the wait!! <3

The soft, silken tendrils of impressively fluffy tails swirly gently against lithe limbs, filling her body with a strange sensation of her skin tingling. While the feeling was not unpleasant, it was unfamiliar to the mare, similar yet vastly different from long grasses stroking her as she glided through fields in the world above. A smile, shy and gentle, forms on her elegant face, warmth radiating from her pallid velveteen lips.

Her mind temporarily disconnected from the stallion before her. His figure casts long shadows in the flickering light of the fire outside the crystalline walls, as does her own, now intermingled with the vixens'. Inori and Riona, he names them, Zyanya taking delight in their names as well as their gentle touches. The foxes were happy creatures, filled with the effervescent energy similar to a child's. The thought brings a joy tinged with sadness, one that she vaguely recognized as mourning for her lost sister.

Like a shadow, the ghost of her sister swirls in the back of her mind, dancing about for a moment until Sacre's warm baritone brings her back to the present.

There was a kindness in his voice, a sweet, guiding tune. Unlike the strange, conflicted stallion named Thranduil, there emanated a bright light from the eyes of her new found tour guide. The softness of her masculine voice lulled a strange calm into her soul, even as her told her with a steady look in his impossibly blue eyes about horrors she had no idea about. For a brief moment, the mare makes no outward reaction, not able to process the words spilling, unguarded, from his maw. Then, a cold chill bristles along her spine, winding its way up her neck and across her small, porcelain face, contorting the smile into a silent fear. "Wraiths?"

Zyanya recognized the word, yet the images brought into her mind caused a shiver to shake her body from her tiny hooves. A plague falling upon a land this massive causing the inhabitants to huddle underground, safe in the embrace of the fires in the heart. Flabbergasted, the shock radiated from the singular word that shoked through her lips, making the rest of his words process slowly. As if her mind were waking from a terrible nightmare, the girl shakes her head, glossy tendrils of her mane gleaming in the dancing, orange light.

"Uh," her mouth cooed before her mind could catch up, wanting to answer his questions swiftly. "Yes, that would be delightful." Her eyes glance toward the spanning tunnels of black, illuminated by dull light. Her legs turn gracefully and carry her behind Sacre, listening to the warm cadence of his voice echoing from the walls of the caves, letting the reverberations soothe the strange panic his nonchalant mention of monsters had wreaked.

Her lilac eyes hungrily scour the walls of the caverns, seeing odd displays decorating the walls in the room they were headed toward. The question he posed this time did not catch her off guard, but instead filled her tiny face with a wondrous light, her eyes glazed in memory as she thought back to the brilliant lights in the north sky. "It is a magical place," Zyanya's voice light and airy, distant yet warm. Nothing else could quite describe the feeling living among those of the Aurora Basin gave her heart, except magical. She gave no hints to Sacre about his unformed questions, did not delve further into her feelings of her home.
