Why not? Rakt asked his bonded when Ashamin said, for the third time, that they could not spar together.

"Because," Ashamin said for the third time, but this time aloud, "it would wake your brother."

At which point both turned to look at the sleeping figure of Lochan, who had rested all day in a patch of thistle and shed bird's down, gathered by the red cerndyr during particularly impatient hours. The sun was setting, and perhaps the little eye would rise soon, but until he did the Clovenheart wanted to be sure that Lochan got all the sleep he needed. Living life as an outcast meant more travelling, and the nomadic lifestyle had taken a toll on the smaller companion. Rakt may have been impatient and gruff, but he would relent if that was what his brother needed, too.

When wakes? he asked, by way of his own sort of compromise.
"When he wakes," the Clovenheart replied, by way of his own sort of compromise.

But in the meantime, neither wished to wait idly. They moved through the thickets, each grazing on the tender grasses that Birdsong had fed and grown with care. The Thistle meadow was particularly verdant that season, and the Clovenheart was thankful for a steady source of food now that he was living in the wilds. And he had to admit, the meadow grasses were tastier than the sparse hay gathered and stored in the corners of his basin cave. Half had been reserved for food (split among the three of them, it had felt meager) and the other portion had been used up for fires to keep them warm. Out in the thistle meadow, though, even when the sunset they felt warmer. Perhaps it was that warmth that allowed Lochan to sleep so peacefully and quietly, warm in the bed of purple thistles.

Chaska

Chaska moved through the thick greenery fluidly. Mottled plumage folded neatly against his sides so they wouldn't catch on the reaching limbs of the trees above. Voices ahead caused his auds to flick forward and his dark legs to still. A wide smile spread across his features as the face of his cloven hooved friend flashed before him as he recognized the one voice. His muscular legs moved methodically towards the voices.

He emerged from the brush to see Ashamin and one of his two companions grazing peacefully. He looked on momentarily taking in the scene of his dark friend and his deer like companion's shadows against the blazing orange, magenta and dandelion sunset. The meadow grass swayed and twirled in the gently dancing breeze. It was the picture of serenity and peace, something the young male had not experienced in so long. Chaska closed his emerald eyes and inhaled deeply through his ebony nose. The smell of sweet grass and fragrant flowers filled his flared nostrils and calmed the stallion as he exhaled. Opening his luminous eyes dreamily he focused back on his companions.

The golden stallion pawed the ground softly to announce his arrival. "Hello friends. I hope I am not interrupting yall?" he spoke gently, being sure to keep his voice low. He began to move towards them, seeming to be floating through the flowing long grass as he stepped softly and slowly. The sabino's inky mane began to dance against his thick neck as the breeze flooded over his golden body. His smile was brilliantly white against his contrasting black lips.

"A promise means EVERYTHING. But once it is broken, sorry means NOTHING."

There was nothing but a soft breeze and a gentle pawing at the earth to indicate that their solitude was interrupted. Rakt’s head shot up and turned back in the characteristic fashion of prey, but Ashamin’s movements were more delayed. He felt at ease and at peace in this meadow, and was not as on guard as he might have been at other times.

When the Clovenheart did turn, he was unsurprised to find that all was as it should be. Chaska spoke to him with nothing but kindness in his tone, and Ashamin smiled at that. It seemed that the Pegasus stallion was a noble and gentle addition to the Unbound, and he was thankful to have his company. "Not at all," he offered in easy reply. The grass that parted so naturally for Chaska’s steps brushed against Ashamin’s legs as he, too, stepped. His long tail swayed behind him and the coils at its end sparked harmlessly; nevertheless, he was sure to keep the appendage above the tops of the grasses.

"How have you faired, Chaska? I hope life as a crusader and practitioner treats you well?" The Clovenheart extended his cheek in greeting as he spoke, turning his face away from Chaska’s some but still fixing his eyes on the Pegasus. Ashamin would not call the question concerning so much as curious. He genuinely did hope that the model he had attempted to craft, the one of sharing knowledge, was going well. If not, he would do what he could to push it along.

Just a heads up, because I know you said voices, Ashamin's companions speak through a mental bond so Chaska wouldn't hear them. Maybe you already knew this in which case ignore me though :P
