THE REAVER
YOU SHOULD HAVE LEARNED BY NOW
I'LL BURN THIS WHOLE WORLD DOWN

After his narrow escape from a watery grave, the boy has stayed as far away from water as it is physically possible to. He's putting off returning home (because Mother is going to be furious) and he wants his little foray into exploration to last a bit longer, so he leaves the coast behind and heads instead towards the forests. It isn't long before he's lost amongst the trees, and oh, he's never seen so many trees! The Edge has its fair share of foliage, of course, but nothing quite like this. He feels small and insignificant in the midst of the towering sentinels, a mere parasite upon their mighty kingdom.

A small snort blasts from his gaping nostrils as the calf breaks into a bouncy trot, his head twisting this way and that as he desperately tries to absorb all the stuff assaulting his senses. There's so many smells (flowers, pollen, animals, and - much less pleasantly - the distinct odour of shit, but he supposes all creatures have to go somewhere), sights (the brightly-coloured flowers, the different-shaped leaves, the queer birds in the branches) and sounds (rustling, tweeting, growling, scraping) that he can hardly contain his excitement. He wishes Esinakh was with him, so he could share the beauty of the place with someone. He'll have to bring her here...if he survives Mother's punishment for leaving the Edge, that is.

As he begins to tire, he slows to a plodding walk, which is even better to absorb the myriad of sense-assaulting stuff around him. The feathers of his wings quiver with excitement as he slopes around, sniffing a tuft of grass here, prodding a broken branch there. It's quite dark in the forest - it is early evening, and the fading light casts very little illumination through the trees. Arakh finds that he doesn't mind; after the blinding sun of the Throat, the half-darkness is quite a relief.

Tired, he halts, and leans one small shoulder against a tree while he catches his breath. There's lots more exploring to do, but...maybe once he's rested a bit...

i'm like the end of a hitchcock movie; a little dark and a lot deceiving

"It's dangerous to just sleep in places like this." Came a voice that was half purr, half wolfish snarl. Were Arakh to open his eyes, he would see before him a girl who looked more like a ghost than a pegasus held together by flesh and blood. She was accompanied by two massive black canines - one clearly a mythical creature, for it had a line of fire that seemed to bloom from its forehead, constantly burning and melting like lava.

Tae's piercing pale gaze was on the boy, but there was also a smile on her lips. She knew that somewhere in this forest her twin and her twin's wolf were also hunting. The pair had split up, deciding to look for bones separately. But Grusha had a way of knowing precisely when to show up, and the mandible-marked filly very much doubted that she and this boy would be alone for very long.

"Wait.." Tae says suddenly, her white eyes narrowing. She took a step backwards, nose tilted slightly and ears flickering uncertainly. It was something about the horns ... the horns that .. "You're the son of the edge warrior." She concluded after a moment, not bothering to add and my Father. Tae hadn't been present for the birth, despite the fact that it occurred in the Throat (odd, she thought), but her Father had told her about it. He had even told her about the circumstances that caused the pregnancy (or at least the parts relevant to her teenage mind). It isn't been all that interesting then ... but now? To see the outcome of that act as a living and breathing boy stupidly sleeping against a tree all alone?

"Do you know who I am?" She asked skeptically, her voice flat.
