Luciérnaga
so we treat our love like a fire-fly

Golden hooves landed lightly on the forest floor, barely making noise on the soft debris that littered the ground. Her eyes was wide, but not out of fear- it was curiosity that struck the young girl. Let us go back a bit, to her beginnings. Luciérnaga was born on a Spanish island far away. Raised in a herd of other Pegasi, though none seemed anything like her. Sure, they were all tall and oddly colored, beautiful creatures, she would admit. But they all had broad, feathered wings, and she was adorned with slender fire fly wings. An oddity, and an occasion that caused her father to disown her mother- for neither her mother nor her father had ever seen such a thing. Luci became the outcast of the Caballos Voladores, even her father would not associate with her. Her mother stuck by her, making sure she was fed and taken care of until a horrific storm shook the lands and forced all the horses to take flight. Luci got separated from her mother and soon crash landed here in the Threshold. Exhausted and devastated, she curled up beneath a tree and found rest.

At day break though, she was up again and on the move. Her wings remained folded back behind her like those of a stinging insect as she stepped carefully through the forest, wide eyes searching curiously for life. She spotted many bugs alight in the air and her ears caught the chirps of all the different birds that floated around them. One day, she would have a bird of her own. A companion to soar with, someone who would always accept her. She wished to be back up in the sky, but the heavy tree cover above her made it appear difficult to exit- so, she stuck to exploring the forest floor. A toad hopped from beneath a log out towards her path, she lowered her nose touching it softly. Dry, bumpy skin against a soft velvety muzzle. The frog croaked loudly and leapt clear to the other side of the path and the filly jerked her head out of surprise. A genuine, gleeful laugh filled the atmosphere and her wings fluttered at her side. Ah, the carefree joys of youth.

There were plants and flowers everywhere, and Luci looked on at them intrigued. She had begun to learn of the healing arts of some plants back home before her herd was driven away by the storm. She hoped that here maybe she could be taught more and put herself to good use. It was the purple Pegasus' dream to become a nurse and be able to help others. Her heart was as gold as the marks about her body and there was not a mean inch to be found in her, even given all the trials she had been through. Luciérnaga was a genuinely good, honest girl. A twig snapped in the distance pulling her immediately away from the plants that surrounded her. She erected her dial immediately, eyes focusing on the direction it had come from. What a sight she was, tall, lean, and the color of royalty adorned with the perfect set of fire-fly wings. Her heart beat accelerated and she hoped, if only for a moment.......Mama?

The large stallion had his front legs tucked up against his chest. Large wings were spread wide as he soared through the air over the threshold. He remembered being here when he first came into Helovia. Veri moved along next to him, invisible to all others. The boggart was a constant companion to the 18.3hh stallion, ever since they had bonded the two rarely spent time apart. He hadn't been back to the Threshold since meeting Aiedial here. Bright orange mane flowed in the wind as dark chestnut ears swiveled around to listen. A voice caught his attention. Ever attuned to his thoughts, Veri spoke in his mind. '"A.. foal..? Or... what?"' A snort was given to the boggart, and he began to circle down towards the ground.

Sturdy black hooves landed with a soft thud on the ground as he landed. The liver chestnut stallion ruffled his wings for a moment before folding them neatly against his sides. Double rhino horns on his head were prominent as he moved towards the source of the sound. "I don't believe I am whom you call 'mama', but may I be of assistance? My name is Hector, warrior of the herd called Dragon's Throat." He stated, coming upon the younger Pegasus mare. The stallion himself was a tribrid which means he was a mix of equine, Pegasus and unicorn, as depicted by his features. He had the double horn and the leonine tail of a unicorn, the wings of a Pegasus, but the hooves of a regular equine. Veri stayed silent in the stallion's mind and invisible to the eyes of the Pegasus mare. For once the boggart wasn't being overly nosy about things.

I had a dream you were two towns from me —
The Thief of the Basin made her way through the ever familiar Threshold. The place of which she stumbled upon two years prior, unsure of where she was and what kind of wonders this place held. Her home, a faraway land made up of various kingdoms had all but seemed normal until she crept into Helovia’s borders. Equines of every species thrived here, living among one another. No one was a slave to another, no one was unrightfully fit to rule (that she saw anyway), and Gods were actual tangible beasts that could be spoken and reasoned with. Oh, how strange Helovia had been, but how welcoming all the same. Rexanna had often imagined what would have happened if she didn’t come across the mystical land – partially imagining various ways of how she could’ve died. But Helovia had been a saving grace, and she often wandered through the Threshold in search of others that had similar feelings as she had when she came across the threshold. She’d offer them a home, a job, a life among them and guidance in the difficult times everyone would eventually end up having.

And so she went, like a porcelain doll with her companion sitting along her withers like a scarf. Her ashen dipped legs carefully stepping over fallen tree branches and grooves in the well trekked paths. The sun sparkled through the treetops, dappling her already spotted skin when her and Marembo heard the gentle sounds of voices in the distance. Her exotic striped head shifted toward the sound, golden chains slinking and colliding with one another with the movement as her and her polecat changed directions. As she approached, she spotted a mare taller than she, dark violet in hue but speckled with gold just as the Thief was. It brought a gentle smile to her face as she watched another join the woman, a stallion hybrid as it looked from the distance. There were no mistaking the horns paired with wings, and so she watched for a mere moment as he introduced himself. As if on cue, Rexanna and Marembo stepped out from the trees to greet the two already gathered. “Hello.” She began, coming to a stop a slight distance away from the duo. She dipped her head to the woman, then to the stallion before her oceanic eyes drifted back to the mare. Information served her right, that the man came from the Dragon’s Throat. He smelt of the sands and the heat, and even partially looked the part if Rexanna was one to judge such things.

Her attention was entirely on the mare, however, not being able to place a familiar scent from her time spent in Helovia. The Thief offered the gold dusted mare a smile before continuing on with her original speech. “I am Rexanna, from the Aurora Basin.” She added in, shifting her weight slightly as Marembo squeaked a hello – partially upset that the Thief hadn’t introduced the masked accomplice of hers. “You’ve found yourself in Helovia, welcome. Is there anything we can help you with?” Rexanna made a point to look over at Hector, nodding along as she repeated his previous words of being assistance. Perhaps today would be her lucky day, returning another member to the tundra of her home.

Oh how she hoped it was her Mama. How she longer for her company again. It had been weeks, months even, since she had seen her and the young girl had felt such a huge loss that she didn't even know how she could cope. But, instead of a purple feathered mare, the woodline produced a chestnut tribrid. Large, feathered wings adorned his back and two horns protruded from his face. His demeanor was soft and he did not appear threatening. Appearance and demeanor were the first things that Luci noticed, and she was usually a divine judge in character. Aye.. She speaks softly, her words coated with a heavy Latin accent, a soft giggle following. You mostly certainly are not mi mama. She dipped her head softly, elegantly, a gentle giggle floating from her lips again. Yo soy Luciérnaga. Pleasure to, ah, meet you. Her speech was generally fluent, but at times could become broken.

As if on cue, and before the stallion could speak again, the woodline produced another body. This time an elegant creme based mare with an exceptional horn. Gold jewelry doted her horn and back. Jewelry that caught Luciérnaga's eye. For it was very similar to the gold her mother used to wear. A soft smile pulled at the corner of soft violet lips as her gold eyes watched the mare carefully give her introduction. Helovia. Luci nodded gently. She had heard of this place maybe one of twice before, but had never been far from her home lands. I, ah, I believe I must be in search of a home. Her accented words softly wafted into the air, almost the way a butterfly takes flight from a flower on a lazy day. The thought of excepting a home from a stranger was a bit daunting, but living alone in the forest was not exactly her best plan either.

In my scarecrow dreams,
(When they smash my heart into smithereens)
Be a bright red rose come bursting the concrete.

"We have to go!"

"We do! We do!"

Sacre wouldn’t know what to do with his life if there wasn’t one fox echoing another in his head, they bounced off each other perfectly, as if they had been born to be together. It cluttered his mind with words, but the fox boy often found that he frequently got the urge to fill the silent gaps whenever they lasted too long, he had gotten far too used to the endless chatter. Recently, this trait had even extended into his interactions with other horses, he hated silent moments and would often, impulsively, fill them with random conversation. It didn’t matter what he talked about, he could talk about anything for a millennia and more, as long as it negated the seemingly inevitable quiet—Sacre understood the quote about silence being loud.

Today, however, he was being dragged through the Threshold once again by two overly eager vulpine, Inari and Ríona, who bounded along in front with their destination set on a group of horses they had scented. Sacre didn’t mind coming to the Threshold often, it gave him more chances to look for Roux, if his twin was still apart of a herd, then maybe he might frequent the area often. Yet, still the fox boy hadn’t seen his twin in a long time and the only thing that reassured Sacre that his brother was okay was the red arrow that was tangled in his black tail. A connection to Roux and one that hadn’t glowed since the last time he saw his other, redder half. Perhaps he should of asked for the arrow to locate Roux instead…

Cutting his thoughts short were a cluster of voices and Sacre, after rounding another turn and negotiating a prickly bush, came across a trio of oddities all talking—negotiating. The girl who was the centre of the topic had wings like a firefly whilst her coat was a clash of purple and gold right up to her eyes, the very eyes Sacre now tried to get in front of. “Ahhh so you’re new!” he beamed his best, bright smile that lit up his dark face in a moment typical of his personality. He had heard her name earlier before jumping into the conversation, but admittedly, didn’t know if he could pronounce it properly and settled on calling her Lu until otherwise told.

The two welcoming before him had already introduced themselves and where they were from, the Basin and the Throat, one an old haunt and the other a recent memory. The pale unicorn had a companion laid across her withers and his two fox friends had already spotted it, their beady watching from down on the ground where they sat under the belly of their bonded. “I’m Sacre, a Nurse from the Worlds Edge” he offered to everyone gathered, nodding his head with a simple greeting before giving each a smile, finding it oddly amusing how varying they were in sizes. Especially the big orange hybrid who Sacre remembered from herd meetings in the Dragons Throat and that one time they had dug holes together along with Megaera. That almost felt like a lifetime ago.

“You can come live with us, if you like” he turned back to the firefly mare, extending the offer to her with his bubbly voice before explaining “our herd is large, there’s many you can befriend, including me” he grinned.

The stallion gave a gentle snort of surprise as Rexanna appeared. He inclined his head towards the unicorn mare before turning towards the other Pegasus mare as she spoke. "The Dragon's Throat consists of mostly Pegasi, so you would be surrounded by others of your species." He explained, smiling gently at the younger mare. His attention was suddenly drawn to another's arrival: Sacre. The liver chestnut stallion recognized the black and red unicorn as well. Casting a glance over the other stallion's two companions, he seemed excited to know that all three of the ones gathered to gain a potential recruit for their herd had a companion. Even if the others couldn't see his companion. The liver stallion know that Veri was there, even if he was being oddly quiet in his mind. "'Careful what you think, bonded.'" The boggart spoke in his mind, eliciting a soft snort of surprise from the stallion as his boggart companion made a comment for the first time since they arrived at the Threshold.

"The Dragon's Throat is a wonderous place to live. I could introduce you to many who live there, including the rulers of the great land." The towering stallion moved towards the mare, aiming to stand next to the smaller Pegasus and drape his large fiery-orange speckled wing over her back. "The oasis in the Throat is wonderous to soar over, and the view of the sky from there is like nowhere else you can find. I guess the others could give the same argument for there homes as well." He said, looking from the beautifully colored mare to the other two unicorns. Perhaps she could feel more comfortable hanging out with other horses that shared her same species, or perhaps she would be more comfortable with other species. Either way, Hector had no reason to be biased. He was technically all three species! Pegasus and unicorn and equine, though his equine traits couldn't shine through except for in his normal hooves. He did have the leonine tail of a unicorn, along with his double rhino horns.

I had a dream you were two towns from me —
Oceanic eyes drifted between the two, capturing the name of the newcomer to this land. The accent, while still unique to the Thief, was familiar to her. She remembered Mortuus Nox and his baritones of Latin that dripped from the onyx healer, and let her smile grow slightly larger. As the mare began to speak of searching for a home, Rexanna’s lips parted – partially ready to speak of the wondrous lands of her home, but was beaten to the punch when a stallion from the Edge appeared. He was onyx in appearance, perhaps marred a bit by a beautiful crimson, and the Thief offered him a slight nod as well. She was fond of the Edge, despite having been pushed from there by a warrior in the land. If anything, at least the land kept Tembovu happy, her Elephant King, and that was all she could ask for as of the moment.

She closed her mouth and listened silently as Sacre spoke, then drifted her gaze as Hector began to speak of the Throat. Marembo kept his eye on the newcomer though, uninterested in the trivial matters of which everyone put forth – trying to prove to them why their home reigned superior. The polecat knew that his bonded would do no better, either, and patiently stood there watching and waiting, flicking his dappled tail to and fro as he only allowed his gaze to stray to look upon the two foxes that hid beneath the belly of the edge’s nurse. And when it was Rexanna’s turn, she let her eyes land on the Pegasus before her with a soft smile along her pale lips. “The Aurora Basin is a beautiful land to the north of here. It can be cold at times, but where the Throat is desert-like and the Edge is more of a lush woodland, accompanied by mystified cliffs and a seaside breeze, the Basin is mostly surrounded by mountains topped off with snow. It’s as if the land cradles us, keeping us perfectly centered among the giant rockery around us. The real magic happens at night, though, where the Aurora dances across the sky in beautiful pinks, blues, and greens, covering the stars with a blanket as it does so.” She added in gently, shifting her weight with a gentle smile.

There aren’t many pegasi in the Basin, but I do have a friend who’s a nurse there that has an accent just like yours, I wonder if you two might have something in common.” Her voice was soft, and Marembo offered a little squeak in agreement to the Thief’s statements. Then, her attention shifted to Sacre, wondering if perhaps he’d add more information into the Edge for the lady.

Luciérnaga
so we treat our love like a fire-fly

All this attention was mesmerizing to the star spotted mare. It had been a long while since she had interacted with others of her Genus. She had spent most of her time speaking with the animals of the land, noticing the plants and experimenting with their wonders. Now, here before her stood a stallion with horns and wings, and a mare with horns. And aloft the golden mare's back was something she had not noticed previously, a small weasel type creature. How interesting, that horses and other creatures alike here could get a long in such harmony. She peered at him longingly for a moment, wishing to brush her velvety muzzle about his soft fur. How rewarding it must be to have something so closely bonded to you that it is like a part of you. Snapping her for her thoughts, her audits lurch forward and her body tenses momentarily at the excited introduction of yet another stallion. This one is dark complexion with red accents, his hide completely clashed with hers, and yet on his head are magnificent red horns- what a sight he is. And it seems he knows every one that is here.

They all speak of their home lands, and she listens intrigued. Curiously taking in the aspects of each land to assess which one might be best for her. The large winged stallion approaches her, lacing a large red wing over her back- she tucks her fire-fly wings tighter against her back. A strange gesture to her, especially for someone that doesn't know her. But she assumes it as friendly and doesn't shy away. Its not in Luci's nature to be rude or offensive. She just nods silently to each beast until they have all finished their informative speeches. It seems as though the Dragon's Throat might be a first choice considering all the Pegasi that are said to live there, but when the other mare speaks of the dry heat of the land- she suddenly questions herself. Heat is not in our purple lass's list of favorite things. She does not like her hide to be darkened by sweat, although even here amongst the trees it seems humid- and she considers how much hotter it may be even there...in the Throat.

The Basin sounds interesting, but the idea of few Pegasi stresses her a little. She's not sure how well she would fit in with other's there when she would feel the need to fly most of the time. Her attention is then directed to the one called Sacre as he speaks. And interestingly enough, she is intrigued by him. His dark hide. His horns. His enthusiasm. He reminds her a bit of a friend she had back in the Caballos Voladores. And his offer of friendship strikes a cord with her. Though there is no mention of Pegasi in the World's Edge. Her brow furrows and she chews her lip a bit. "Are there others like me there as well?" Her accented tones float out- cautiously curious. Of course, with the name "World's Edge", you would think there would be more of her type. It sounds as though there would be plenty of areas to soar above the clouds there.

"Dios mio." She vocalizes softly, how difficult this is. It should not be this difficult to choose a home, should it? But the fear of hurting other's feelings or offending someone lingered in the back of her mind. Her heart was too good sometimes. Though, all present seemed fairly nice enough. She eyed the three of them. Her brow furrowed again and she chewed her lips. The wing of the red stallion was becoming suffocating as she felt the need to move. She was feeling trapped, literally and metaphorically. Trapped in her head trying to make a decision. Her eyes darted from each horse. She made eye contact with both the mare and the red trihybrid as she spoke. "I appreciate each of your offers." She said with a nod of her head. "And I am sorry I can't choose you all. But I believe I shall follow Sacre home to the World's Edge where I can learn from him of becoming a healer." As latin tones ceases, golden eyes fell on the boy with the foxes. Her eyes darted to the two little creatures below him and a soft smile spread on her violet lips.

"talk talk talk"
