The little jenny had really gone and done it now. What had seemed like only a moment ago, had turned into a near four hours of travelling. Such miles for a youngling were tiring at best. When the little trouble maker had gone off from her band, she'd been in a land where it was still the end of fall, and yet before she'd realized it, the weather had gotten colder and colder as she went on. It had only been for a bird, a small bird that had hopped through the long grass with fluttering wings. Arie had chase the thing until the grass was high enough hide her form, and the rest of her rather short family. By the time she'd even looked back to see where they'd gone, it was much too late to find them at her speed, and so she continued south, assuming that'd been where they were going originally.

As the darkness of evening broke in, the confidence of this fluffy equid began to waver. Her tiny steps taking jittery leaps forward in her nervousness to find her mother and the rest. Large auds flicked back in dislike, as maw opened to allow her shrill call to echo outwards. The bray was rather screeching and unpleasant to ones ear, but the chocolate dame was quite unaware of such flaws. Again she continued onwards, little limbs nearly invisible within the thick frost that covered the earth beneath her. Her gait was slowing, as tiny stature fought through the darkening forests terrain, her growing weariness becoming increasingly obvious as breath grew labored. To buffer her loneliness, she began a sweet hum. It was the tune of a song she'd yet to learn all the words for, and the mumbles of attempts to do so were mixed in with the little brays, childish voice sticking out in the silence of the crisp night fall.

"We will find what we once believed..mm..crawl our...to ..hmm...clear skies..standing up we are.Standing up, we are."

{Please forgive my muse at the moment, I promise it will grow when I get a better idea of her going.}

Hope and pray that you never need me, but rest assured I will not let you down.

The buckskin trotted through the thick forest, each step a jarring reminder of the disfigured horn piercing his flesh. He doesn’t really know why he keeps up the bumpy pace, it’s more habit than anything else. The Throat was a welcoming home, but the steed had always preferred solitude, and his travel had lead him to the Threshold. It was coincidence really, that he happened to overhear the strange tune of the little jenny, and whim that he decided the sound to be worth investigating. Ears flicker as he approaches, pinpointing the location of the noise maker.

Upon viewing the youngling, a rare smile crosses his expression. A donkey was the last thing he had expected to find, but it explained the odd braying that had caught his interest. After meeting the pegasus filly Nefertari, he found himself rather curious about the nature of foals in general, and approaching this little one seems quite the natural thing to do. He steps into her line of sight, though his bright golden pelt should have made his arrival obvious, and lowers his scarred face in a greeting. Dark eyes regard her silently, and he wonders where her mother is. Perhaps he has stumbled across a lost babe?

It saddens him that so many are without parents. Countless orphans, all seeking someone to shelter and guide them, though few find what they need. He himself has robbed children of their guardians, though he hopes that such days are past now. However, there is no way of knowing if this flicka is among the unclaimed. Perhaps her dam is nearby, out of eyesight and downwind. Either way, he resolves to watch the jenny until one more suited to the task appears. Or, if no mare steps forth, he will take the lost chit to the Throat with him, raise her himself. A daunting task, but it is simply not in him to leave her alone in the cold.
