so i listen to the    wind for an answer
She spends a lot of time in the Edge now, in a way she didn’t when she first started calling this place home. Now though, it felt like home. How strange to think it’d been a year since she first stepped foot in Helovia. An entire year had come and gone in this place. It seems like so short and so long a time all at once.

Short because so much had happened in such a short time. She’d found a new home through Elsa, met Alysanne and climbed through the healer ranks under her tutelage, only to be promoted to Alysanne’s old job as Moon Doctor when her friend became Queen. So much had changed that the year felt like a whirlwind, and she struggles to believe that it hasn’t been longer. It certainly feels like longer. Though of course, there’s so much she doesn’t know and so many horses even just within the borders of the Edge that she’s never met, that sometimes she can believe it’s only been a year.

And sometimes, it feels impossibly long. It’d been little more than a year since she fled Morham. Little more than a year since her mother, father, and brother were all murdered. Just a year since her sister disappeared. A year, in terms of grief, is not a long time at all. It is enough time to start healing. It is enough time for the gaping holes in her heart to stop bleeding, for them to stop leaving her breathless every morning when she woke. But it was not enough time to close them. Not that such holes could ever really close, and they certainly could not be filled. But they could hurt less. And that process had felt slower – so much slower – than the rest of her life in the Edge.

But time was mending those wounds. Wounds her newly acquired magic could not heal. Wounds no one else could fix. But talking to Apollo and Glasglow helped. But finding out that she could live and survive and even thrive in a world without any of them helped. One day, she hoped to find her sister. One day, she hoped to see her family again – hoped that no matter where she lived, they all ended in the same place. One day.

But today, she is still living and breathing and walking this earth. The weather is cool, the wind brisk, and in the early hours of the morning the mist is thick between the trees. She weaves her way through the familiar forest, enjoying the quiet of the morning. The birds rustling in the trees above her, the squirrels chittering as they leap from limb to limp. All preparing for winter, and the colder months ahead. She can’t say she’s looking forward to the cold, but for now, she’ll enjoy the beautiful weather of Orangemoon. For now, wandering through this place that finally feels like home with the scent of autumn in the air, she is content. It is a new feeling for her, and she cherishes it.
