Oh, heart be still.
Tilney could hear his pulse and even the blood trickle through his veins as he stared out at the wide ocean - the same ocean that had carried him away from Helovia for two whole seasons. Away from his home, his friends and loved ones, from Arah.
Facing fears was not something that ginger healers were user to. As a healer he was generally behind the curtain, never even gazing at a horror.

Today though, Tilney stood facing the threat of the water and the many evils it possessed.

He would cross these shallows and he would get to the Riptide Isles.
Cloven hooves slipping downwards into the aqua, Tilneys shaking jaw refused to turn under, he wouldn't look down and he wouldn't give in to his sick, throbbing cheast. Looking ahead at his goal, the isles, the physician powered on along the shallow strip.

Numbering every step was all he could do to take his mind off of the terrifying nightmares that galloped across his every thought. What if the sea was to rise and swallow him once again? Drag him away for an eternity this time?
No. It would not.

Pressing on the flaxen lad declared war with the water with every step until he reached the shore of the Isles. How proud he was to have conquered his fear, and without a single mishap along the way!
Clearly his past misfortune had been just that - a freak accident, poorly timed and misjudged. It would not happen again. He would only cross as low tide and in the best of weather.

Slipping along the rocks, Tilney eased his way onto a south-facing, hidden beach. It even had coconuts.

How exotic. How I wish Arah was here.

Perhaps she would never return. It was a solid possibility.
He growled at himself for the night he had spent among the company of another mare not so long ago; how it pained him now to have committed such an adulterous act! And with Glasgow. She was a friend of his yes, but a friend of Arah's also. How could he be so cruel?
But how could Arah be so cruel to him?
To Maude.

As the troubled man drew into a shaded, canyon-like lagoon, he whispered and cursed under his breath. Slamming his cloven hoof into the pale water and watching it purity break, Tilney let his head fall. What had become of this new life?
Months ago he was the happiest he'd ever been, now he was the most furious and the most melancholy.
How times had changed.

The Fury of Fire

Panic had never been something which had faced the Amazonian, she was an unshakeable wall of feminine prowess, sand and heat, sun kissed pelt and salt tousled hair. She stared fear in the face defiantly and without hesitation. Until fear had taken a different turn, Helovia had made her a mother. Had left her with two daughters without a father, nothing more than ash in the wind now, and they had both vanished. Panic had presented itself in a different scenario, and turned her whole world upside down.

Gold and Blue eyes scanned the horizon and orange tinged meadows, sun scorched hills peppered with emerald between the damage from Tallsun. She wants to scream, despair and let the emotions carry her like the wind and send her hopefully to where her daughters had gone. The warrioress had been like that, once upon a time, hadn't she often trotted away from her mother until she was a speck on the horizon? Was this her karma then, for the emotional turmoil she had made her mother endure as she searched and searched?

Her thoughts swallowed her until the subtle groan and stiffness in her wings drew her back to the surface, nostrils coming up for air she didn't need. She had detoured from her journey back to the throat, blown off course, she could say with a grim mocking song of amusement. Back to a place she, and many had endured heartbreak and permanent grim reminders of what it had taken to breathe life and purity back into the exotic isles. Her wing gave a phantom throb in remembrance of her own attempts to fend off the Goddess from the air.

It was better place as any, she decided with a whispered voice in her mind, wings neatly pulled in towards her curved sides as she began an elegant but chaotic descent. She descended like a falling star, salt curled strands of black and orange her trailing banners. As she curves into the hidden beach, spied through the palms and lush jungle foliage, her gaze is drawn to another who dared to break the tranquility she so desperately craved. Another one, she noted, as cloven hoof scarred the water with ripples and droplets, who seemed to be beside themselves with something. Maybe this beach was a spot for the weary and tired, the troubled and the lost to find themselves again for just a moment.

Either way, the unicorn's presence doesn't deter her from throwing open her wings in the last seconds before her frame hit the lagoon to catch her. She could of let the water claim her, but even that doesn't entertain her in these dismal days as it used too. Hooves dipped into the crystal waters as she glided toward the beach, a small distance away from the troubled looking stag. Finally, she lands without fanfare, a simple one-two beat of her large golden and obsidian mottled wings is enough to set her war-painted frame upon the white sands.

She doesn't acknowledge her company at first, intent to ignore him for the water which is laid out in front of them, but something pangs within her chest as her velvet muzzle dipped into lagoon. A tumultuous mixture of emotions, rising and falling like the squalls which peppered the coasts of her island home. Bottled up for too long with nothing but whistling winds the answer to her lonely questions and furious declarations. "What brings you all the way out here?" She finally asked, her accented punctuated with a wavered tone, the quiet chorus of birds, jungle creatures and lapping water which echoed around them drowned out by the warrioress' sudden burst of speech. It's a loaded question, filled with taut strings and pent up thoughts and feelings. She didn't know why she finally gave in, saw the face of the chestnut lad and found herself able to utter something.

In Helovia you were never truly alone, were you?
Was that a blessing or a curse?
Tilney couldn't figure out if that was terrifying or joyous, but it wasn't long until his isolation was broken.

The swoop of manipulated wind under wing was the first to disturb the silence, then the gentle thud of hoof on the sand, the swoosh of sand spray and momentum finding its grave ahead of its host.
Curiously the crowned stag watched, unable to cheer a greeting like he normally would do. This black pegasus was reasonably intimidating with her impressive wingspan and hard brow, though he was also much too goddamn angry to say anything to anyone right now.

Clearly the lad had changed; he was evolving.

The pennons belonging to the winged nightmare came to close on her back it seemed, and she drew nearer and nearer until finally she actually spoke. Finally, someone was willing to break the silence.
Tilney shocked himself at his response; never had he been so ungentlemanly in his entire existence.
"I was enjoying this pool alone, but not anymore" he had snarled at the black beauty.

Her markings were foreign and her eyes captivating; she was alluring to be sure. Why he had been so rude was beyond him, he could not think why. Emotions ruled everything these past weeks it seemed.

He had always bee na man of the heart, but of the mind too. He could think out his actions more often then not; today was not one of those days.
"But what brings you here my lady?" the doctor then uttered, his eyes not even cast in her general direction.  The fact that he hardly cared for her answer was astonishing for him, it was if he was completely out of his mind. These were almost not the words of Tilney but of someone entirely different;
a vulgar creature of a base brain it seemed.

The Fury of Fire

Part of her had been joyous when the bright painted stag had given her a harsh reply, a flame which flickered in the distance to signal the release of whatever was pent up in inside. That finally, something, anything had given her a reason to let go. Another part of her, that proud, unabashed and unfettered section which had long been part of her armor, her sword and her shield was infuriated that the stallion had spoken to her in such a manner.

A hard snort escaped her sooty nostrils as bright eyes stared hard at him, lips set into a thin line while she pinned the pine and herb scented stag in her sights. "Oh? Who made you King of these pools? I didn't realize it was one Unicorn per Lagoon." She snapped back with a flare of her wings, a wild gesture toward the water he had apparently been enjoying, a hind leg struck into the sand with a small plume of the ground down rock. On any different day, she might've engaged the handsome creature with her usual bouts of airy laughter and flirtatious remarks, but that basin was drier than any cracked sand to be found by the Heart Fire.

Her daughters had so loved the water, her voice whispered internally, the oasis and the oceans had been a spot where she had watched them frolic where she could see them. She'd left them in the tender hooves of fellow mares as she preformed her duties, and it had been a heartwarming sight in her war strung bones to see her two girls waiting for her when she returned. It was oh so incredibly easy to impose that he intended to stop her from enjoying such a fond memory at this pool, from sulking and being angry — he should suck it up and get used to having her around, if he wanted to stay.

"I had come to escape the dull company of base stallions, but it seems helovia has an abundance of them, even outside the Throat. They're like weeds." She responded in a bland, but clipped tone. Why should she give him the honest answer? Why should she tell him that she was a woman dealing with heart break and an empty nest. She'd shouldered the grief of her children not having a father, and now they had apparently chosen to not heed her warnings and skip off into the world without a mother. No, it was much better to spit and kick like a warrior, pull up the walls and ignite the fires.

Love, my territory of kisses and volcanoes.

A hissing voice was not much more than this woman was. Her wings did flare and her gaze bit like a pup, but she had no venom. She might be intimidatingly beautiful, but to Tilney at least she wasn't life threatening.

First she demanded to know who had crowned him king of this pool, and Tilney merely smirked at how juvenile she sounded. He merely shook his head at her comment, and stepped away ever so slightly. How repulsive her attitude was.
(Though his was just as vile)

Next the pennoned doe spoke about how she had ventured here to escape base stallions, and there wasn't even a single doubt in his mind that the woman would only be hinting to him. She then spoke of the Dragons Throat, and how she had somehow formerly presumed that the worst stags only existed there. She also made it painfully obvious that she herself was from that dreadful oasis.

"Even outside the Throat? What ever can you mean" Tilney turned back towards her, viridescent gaze now turned quizzical "You might not believe me when I tell you I am a well travelled man, but having been to every nation in Helovia I can safely say that throat-dwellers are by far the most vile and base."
"Practically Barbarians my lady, I implore you to never go there."

His acting turned to sneers, but as he crept closer he felt an itching desire.
For.... her?
It infuriated him even more.
Why would he want her.
Here he stood bickering to the woman, yet biology demanded he mate with...it.

The brute gave a snort, green eyes pined to hers momentarily before he turned on his haunches, removing him self from anywhere near her and waded across to the other side of the lagoon, sheltered by a rocky outcrop and palm leaves. Here, he hoped, would be free from the mares taunts... and also his bodies impulses.

The Fury of Fire

An invisible brow rose when the tree marked stag answered her barb with a smirk, she should wipe that smirk off his face with a well timed snap of her teeth. She was used to such blatant responses from her fellow islanders, but mainlanders? not so much.

Perhaps it said enough that she considered them vastly different, to a degree that she referred to them as entirely separate, not that they once upon a time were all connected. They were born and bred to survive in the throng of heat and battle, while others pranced and paraded through tree's with pomp and grandeur.

Still, it provoked the veiled surprise to turn into probing curiousity, a gleeful chance of something else which span her thoughts one way and the next. Nephele chose to wear an indifferent face while she regarded him with a cooled expression, glittered gold and piercing ice continued to prod and press over his frame.

"Even outside the Throat? What ever can you mean"

It was her turn to smirk at his sly retort, the vixen sported a vivacious smirk as her head tilted to the side, curled hair falling to hide her blue eye. "Don't play coy with me, little stag." She took his thorny jibe about the Throat in her stride, though it wouldn't have hurt to had some of that fire magic they were infamous for possessing. She'd rather like to see him sweat as a wall of flame licked toward his heels, see him prance to her whims, they didn't make them in the Throat like they did on the main land. "You? Travel to the four corners of Helovia? Never. I don't believe you for a second." Over dramatic disbelief laced her words, and an amused flair laugh escaped her.

"Even the ladies? Surely a well traveled, well speaking gentleman like you would never speak ill of mares." There's a dangerous, ulterior glint in her eye as the words left her lilted lips. The well toned, spar hardened muscles beneath her obsidian pelt shifted as a hoof came to prop at the toe into the sand. She was surprising herself, the last time she'd engaged a man like this, she'd wanted to kick him square in the jaw for her indignation. This is different, as the annoyance bubbled with the once latent negativity which had silently hung on her shoulders, something else — a warmth she'd felt only once before had began to blossom within her like a small ember.

"Where do you think you're going?" She doesn't expect an answer to it, neither does she give pause to panic or question why she has that particular feeling again after so much heart break. It's all too easy to take flight and glide effortlessly after him on feathered sails until the palms and outcrop stop her aerial advancement. She landed once more, statuesque in her stance and a smirk on her ebony face, her eyes once more upon him. Too invested in this little game of back and forth, it's an outlet and she's not satisfied to be simply left hanging. "Not having fun? I didn't know mainlanders were so easy to back down, especially against such barbarians."

Love, my territory of kisses and volcanoes.

Each bicker was like a trumpet right against his eardrums - He could hardly tolerate her much longer, and so he just begun to ignore her or merely respond with smirks. There really wasn't much else he could do because it was apparent soon enough that there was noe escape form her.
When he waded across the blue lagoon the winged woman didn't take defeat, victory, nor a draw, and just continued to badger him.

Where do you think you're going
she had cooed in such a condescending tone it caused Tilneys back hair to stand on end. Gritting his own top and bottom teeth togeather the antlered man once again shook his cranium and burned his rump to face the woman. He refused to lend her more of his attention, especially when it seemed his hormones pleaded to be introduced to hers.

Perhaps there was naught else for Tilney to do other then wait for this godforsaken wretch to leave. She had refused to tell him why she was here, perhaps she had no reason at all.
"Why are you really here?" The chestnut grumbled, still hardly turning his cranium to face her. "And I don't mean pestering me, I mean here at this pool".

Wherever they stood, this pool, was magical. It had such an incredible aura to it, as though a piece of the oceans heart belonged right here in this volcanic rock. Tilney had hardly seen a more picturesque place, and it was a shame he couldn't enjoy it in peace.
Once again he could feel her near and he could feel his body's messages. Did he really ache for her that much? His knees became weak, his spine tingled. How could such a vile woman have this effect on him?

The Fury of Fire

It would have hardly been half as fun if she had left after he had taken himself off, where else on the island could she go to find peace? She could remember with such clarity the battle which had taken place, the gouges left in the earth by divine claws, the faded remnants of scorch marks and other scars burned into the rocks which littered the lush landscape. More importantly, where could she go on this ghostly island and find some semblance of company she wanted to stick around for?

Besides, she wasn't one to take a defeat, or a draw. She'd go until she'd won.

Her fresh advancement is met by the tree painted stag simply turning his ass on her, now who was the childish one, she thought with a snort. While the natural response was for her to simply lean over and give his tail a tug, she refrained as her mind rolled her thoughts back and forth for something a bit more suitable to play with. If he had counted on her to eventually grow bored, and wait until his ginger backside had burned itself into her memory to the point of being a constant corner stone of her dreams, he was sorely mistaken. Besides, who didn't like the occasional rump to appear to make a regular dream just that little bit more interesting.

The stallion's question hung in the air, answered by silence from Nephele as she mulled it over. Could she tell him? Why should she tell him, he'd been a pig to her, just as much as she'd been a hellion to him. She couldn't deny she had fun though, pressing and kneading his buttons and perhaps that little blossom, however small, was a welcome distraction from all the terrible swirling emotions which hung over her like a dark cloud. Instead of giving him an answer first, she gave a purposeful swing of her all too curvous hips to send her own rump knocking into his in a small attempt to unseat him, and give him a fresh dose of taunting. Her face came to glance out at the water once more, black and orange tail swished back at him before it settled like a blackened waterfall against her hocks and the sand.

"I came here to be alone." She answered, her head held high as bi-coloured eyes remained transfixed on the water, soft ears tipped back toward the lighter stallion. "Maybe to find company. Or entertainment, which you provide so well, despite your less than gentlemanly attitude." She barbed after another pause, smirk once again on her lips, her painted neck arched to look at him over her feathered shoulder. "And what about his royal traveler? Why are you really here? Other than to be a pain."

Love, my territory of kisses and volcanoes.

Gods, she was relentless.
It even seemed like now it was just a game then a bicker. Instead perhaps she might even be (in some crude way) flirting with him.
The black nightmare told him that she had come to this place, the blue lagoon, to be alone. He could understand her disappointment to find it occupied, but perhaps patience was in order.
Again, he seemed to be forgetting his own foul attitude.
She 'complimented' him on how well he provided company and entertainment and the flaxen lad could only snort "Do you often seek the company from those who clearly wish to be left alone?".
"You seem like the kind of woman who is used to getting her way. I won't challenge you, I'm tired"

He refused to argue with her any longer, this was becoming more than repetitive. Though still as he turned his gaze to her and her hip collided with his, he felt that same overpowering lure. it was as if she had sunk a hook into his lip and was wrenching him in.
His body was betraying him it seemed.

Tilney could now only eye her cautiously; he daren't speak. He felt quite trapped, unsure of how to escape this situation. All he knew was that he was so, so furious... and he felt like perhaps that was the only way to get some relief.
"What are you doing..." were the growling words that fell from his maw as she gave a teasing flay of her tail. How could she; that would make any male weak.

The Fury of Fire

"Only when it's fun." She responded with a sly smile, lashes fanned in his direction with her words. This was one way to relieve the tension, and while she still prefered the clash of hooves and teeth in the arena to release the tension pent up in her body, this was proving a pleasant change of scenery. Besides, the antlered stallion didn't look like he would last long, she'd eat him alive, and not in the way a stallion usually wanted a mare to.

"Not always, but it is ever so pleasurable when I do." Nephele retorted in a lilted tune, while she was mildly interested to know why the unicorn was tired, the question was buried under a multitude of other things which bubbled and frothed beneath her obsidian pelt, and rolled around in her mind. The thought of carrying away something from this encounter was the furthest thing in her mind, despite the fact it should be at the very front, last time she had played a dangerous game, she'd come away with two bouncing bundles of joy. "You make it sound like you've never met a challenging mare in your life, for a well traveled gentleman such as yourself, I thought you'd be able to handle it just that little bit better."

She would admit it was a bit cheeky of her, if not a whole lot of flirtation, to knock her hips into his. She wanted a reaction, and some small part of her already knew that beneath the hankering to simply kick and chip at something until her bones ached and her muscles groaned was being replaced by a need to have that itch scratched in another way. Her hind gives a subtle sway as her weight shifted, her delicately chiselled face tilted to watch him curiously as she gauged his reaction. Had he never met a forward mare before? What kind of delicate little flowers did they breed on the mainland these days?

Did she have to do everything herself? Maybe if she'd thumped him straight off the bat this would be moving a lot more faster.

"What do you think I'm doing?" A flick of her tail sent it curling toward him once more before it fell back around her hooves. Her wings fanned out from her sides, feathered fans to further display her ample assets. An invitation, or another taunted question? "You need to relax and loosen up, dear. You're looking rather tense." A snort vibrated from her pierced nostrils as that sentimental little note at the end. It was time to see if the stag had a wild note in him, able to have a dance with the devil and have a little fun in the process. "Scared to have a little fun?"

The women's comment caused the stag smirk, though this time not even in a condescending way - he might even be starting to like her. The tribal mare was a character for sure and it was true, he hadn't quite met anyone like her. From his experience mares were generally preening, proud creatures who were quite protective of their purity and morals. This one was wild, just like this island.
Exotic.

Green eyes looked from her dark hooves, up her black legs and over her slender body and impressive wingspan. It was like she was inviting him in, she was quite simply a tease.

What do you think I am doing? she had cooed, eyelashes batting, legs stretched and posing, wings aflare.
This time the scowl didn't appear on his chestnut face, it daren't ruin his poised muzzle and wanting eyes. Instead he just watched her, mouth twitching into a slight smile. Somehow his legs carried him closer, cloven hooves standing adjacent to hers of black.

The doctors green gaze found hers of frightening glue and gold, looking at her now with want and perhaps lust. That same spine rattling feeling came back to him as biology wrenched him closer to her, a whirlwind of chemicals and emotion drawing him nearer.

"Scared? to have fun?"
the stag whispered, and again he smiled "what ever do you mean".
