Numb is what she felt; more numb than she had ever been in her entire existence. She didn't know how she was even moving, yet that stubborn primal need to live urged her onward and deeper into the depths of the caves. The Mountain's instructions had been awfully helpful, and though Myrrine had gotten lost many times on her way, she had finally made it to what was known as Helovia's Heart. How her heart was breaking at the loss she had just witnessed not two days ago. She hadn't known what to do with the body, so she had simply left it- no - him curled within the fine silk of the Rotunda. The tears began to fall again and she begged to the Gods for release of this agony, to free her mind of the anguish Quilyan had placed upon her soul.

Yet had it really been his fault? Was he truly responsible for the dull ache she felt with each thud of her saddened heart? Of course not; if anything it was her fault for not being there for him sooner. She had found him as a bloody mess with barely a recognizable face, and she had tried everything in her power to help him. Yet in the end all she had helped him with was an easier transition to the afterlife. The hazy image of that smile on his lips was her only salvation, because it had meant her magic had worked. He had made him happy for one last time. Would he remember her in the afterlife? Would he remember the way his lips had fit so nicely into the curve of her chin, and that his wings had been one of her most favorite places to be? These hadn't thought about before, no, not when she had been so selfish and simply left him, avoided him like he was trash.

He had been anything but, yet her idiotic mind hadn't been able to realize until it was too late: That Quilyan had been worth keeping after all. And even then that thought was selfish, because why did she have the right to claim him as hers when he had a mind of his own? He could choose to be with her, and honestly he might have if she hadn't in the past thought it was just because he wanted to support their baby. Their baby, the one where she didn't know the location of, and hadn't for the majority of her life. If that didn't scream bad parenting she didn't know what did. Everything about her screamed bad, disgraceful and pathetic. Gods why hadn't she just off herself already? She didn't deserve to be in this life. Quilyan did.

Now she was collapsed upon the stone floor and sobbing, screaming why into the darkness that echoed further into the cavern. Because it wasn't fair and obviously they had to see that; everyone had to see that she should have been the one bleeding on the ground and gasping for her breaths. Because then the world would have been better with her gone. Coughing from the exertion of sobbing she finally stood, trying to rid the hate and malice that crawled upon her like vicious demons in search of blood. Before she was going to hide away from the world and wallow in her sorrows, she needed to finish the quest the Earth God had sent her on. In order to do that, she didn't need to be such a blithering mess. Snorting and wiping the tears that had simply run over crusted ones, she finally took in the expanse of the lava wall before her. This was where she would need to be she assumed, as that was where she would find her prize.

"You seem lost."

The voice came from somewhere behind Myrrine, and it belonged to a young weanling named Vinati. The little sand princess had been escorted across the Dragon's Throat bridge and allowed to go her own way on a rare trip beyond the borders of the Throat. She didn't mind being kept on her home sands; on the contrary, there was no place she'd rather be. But sometimes she needed more than sun and sand and waves to inspire her latest creation, and this was one of those times. She had set out around midmorning and only just arrived at the fabled Heart Caves.

It was the echoing sobs that had coaxed the young girl deeper into the caves. The girl had assumed that the tears belonged to some long-forgotten ghost and, in the hopes that perhaps she could be helpful, had attempted to find the source. Through room after room she had gone, and imagine her surprise when she found not a specter, but a very real, very solid mare collapsed upon the ground and sobbing. Never one to leave a horse in need, the girl had approached and said, "You seem lost," in that dreamy, whimsical voice of hers, and here we are.

The mare was young and presumably quite sad to be crying that hard. Vinati tried to remember if she had ever felt hopeless enough to show her dismay in such a passionate way and came up short. Even when Ave had died, she had known that she would see him again. Hers was a unique ability that spared her much of the pain that others seemed to carry with them, and one day she would find the desire to share it. For now, though, she merely watched the stranger, nodded a greeting to the painted ghost nearby, and waited for a response to her strange introduction.

The words pierced through her sobs and echoed around them, cascading off the walls effortlessly and knocking her out of her spell. Within an instant she was standing, looking to the small child with wide and startled eyes. She tried to choke back the tears, to suddenly wipe them away off of her legs as if she were a fresh slate, clean of any impurities. If only that was how the world worked. Instead she cleared her throat, meeting the girl's eyes and slowly smiling, sniffling and tossing speckled skull to try and rid away the sorrow that plagued her being.

" I didn't hear you coming child, forgive my manners. My name is Myrrine, it's a pleasure to meet you," although the obvious strain from her previous sobs was evident in her voice, she managed to remain pleasant, warmth seeping at the edges of her tone in hopes of drowning out the agony. Hazel eyes examined the child patiently, taking in her intricate wings and dainty face, her expression rather matter of fact. Myrrine wished she could hold that kind of calm air around her. Who new a child had a better hold on her emotions than she. Then again she had still been a baby even at her age when it came to handling her emotions on her sleeve. That was something that would never change about the butterfly mare.

Blinking long lashes she approached slowly, offering a small smile and speaking softly in response to her," Indeed I am. I'm afraid I'm rather unfamiliar with this place, but it seems to me you might know your way around. Would you perchance mind helping me find something?" She silently thanked the Gods that the girl hadn't asked why she was crying, hadn't pried to look into her soul with innocent questions and simple desires like any foal her age might of done. It was a relief and also curious, seeing her be so mature about the smallest things. Yet hadn't that been how Kahula had felt about her upon their first meeting? At least she assumed based on her responses to her obvious statements. How was it that she was stronger back then than she was now? It was if her mind was falling and reverting back to the primal instinct of need. The need to take this pain away and make the boo boos all better. She wished that childlike thinking could apply now. Such wistful thoughts would need to be saved for later, as she had someone who was talking to her, and so with rapt attention she waited for the filly's answer, wanting to be done with this as soon as possible.

-With Permission/Request From Bob-

THE season was cold now. Very cold. The fae child had survived quite well up until this point, learning from the woodland creatures, but now most of her friends had gone away and she was alone again. It had been a while since she'd been back to Mother's thicket, but maybe she'd shown up by now? Perhaps, the parental unit had been waiting there for some time for her and she'd be warm with milk and they'd nap together like they'd done when she was younger?

But no, it was still empty and cold. There wasn't even a scent of her mother there anymore. She couldn't even remember how she smelled. Dejected the filly flops in the snow (Much to the alarm of the nearby winter birds who let their angst be known in loud screeches). Her wild eyes look up at the sky and, finally, the independent foal is forced to admit defeat. These wretched butterfly wings were of no use as insulation against the cold and. How had she ever seen these things as beautiful? The food was all gone, well buried under the snow by now. She'd been trying to eat bark but it was hard without knowing which ones held the most energy for her body. She didn't know what she was supposed to do with this new, frigid environment. The filly's still-fairly-small body shivers and she would have cried were she not so fearful of her eyes freezing shut.

The world was cruel. She'd already known that since the encounter with Tembovu and the Thicket and the Serval and the gods. She'd known that just by watching the woodland creatures go by...but it had never felt so personal before. She'd never realized that just as there'd been no help for the thicket there would be no help for her. A frown creased her spotted brows.

Wait

Father lived out of the herdlands, in the wilds, what if Mother had gone to join him? Could she find them? A determined look set across her face as she thrust herself wobbily into the chilly sky. With all the speed of a crippled chicken she set out looking for what she knew she likely could not hope to find. She looked all day until the sun began to set and pure defeat filled her with depression. She fell to the ground, scraping her little knees on the icy top layer of snow. She had no idea where she was she just knew she was cold and she needed somewhere to sleep, perhaps to die, she wasn't sure..maybe she was just being dramatic?

The caves just to her right seemed a good a place as any, so she waltzed right on in, sniffling and exhausted. She waltzed right on in to her mother too. Her mo-

"MOMMA!" The little filly squeaked out in the pure panicked excitement of young children. She scrambled forward and jabbed her nose up between her mother's legs, hungrily trying to get at the warm milk which should be there. But there was nothing, nothing but dirt coating the food bags. Disgusted she tumbled out from under in less than a moment, spitting the gross, sweaty sand to the ground. She didn't even notice the other filly, just a few months older than her now, as she finally cracked.

The fae child cried for the first time in her short life. She'd endured mean fillies, adults who ignored her repeated, quiet attempts to get their attention, adults who attacked innocent creatures, cougars, wolves, angry birds, hunger, lack of knowledge, and exhaustion in the past few months. She'd stayed happy and brave because she'd not known that anything was amiss. But today she cried. She bawled while she stared at her mother with all the hate and betrayal of someone who'd been left behind by the one person they should never be forgotten. In between sobs her tiny, toddler voice choked out what she had to say. "I...I, waited for you. I waited for you at our thicket every night for one moon. I followed around the others too see if you were there. There, there was so much mean and you weren't there and...and, chs-I'm so hungry. Did, did you leave because of me? Because I was bad? I'm sorry I snuck away I didn't mean to be bad. Momma, I was so alone. WHY! WHY did you leave me? " She screamed the last part. But then came the defeat again, the realization that no matter what she said, it probably didn't matter. Because the world was cruel, and the cruel fact was,  "You never even tried to come back to the Edge, to look for me. You just...left."

She sighs, spent. The tears slow and she slowly falls silent. There's nothing left to say, she's unsure what to do, and she still hasn't seen the other filly...until she looks up. Her face betrays no emotion, no embarrassment. She didn't even care. The filly probably thought she was batpoop anyways. So she just nods at her, lays down as close to the warmth of the lava wall as she dared, and curls up. She was sure there were words coming from Mother's mouth, excuses, tears. But she didn't care. She tries to ignore them. Because why did Mother's emotions matter more than hers, why should she get to explain herself? The answer was simple, she shouldn't she should have her shit together enough to actually jump into acting like a mother. She should look at her filly's frozen wings, thin body, bloody knees, and dry mouth and know exactly what to do...but Laume was pretty sure she didn't. She was pretty sure she'd just run away again and leave her to die. Because thats what this Mother did, Right?

OOC: Well shit, that was a rant. lmfao. Umm, Laume is just being a kid and pouting. She'll get over it easily enough. Then she'll happily waddle about looking for whatever Myr needs looking for so long as she gets some foods.hahaha. That was far more dramatic than Laume usually comes out so my apologies. <3

Vinati
So the mare was lost. Well, it was a good thing that Vinati had come along then, wasn’t it? The filly smiled whimsically, seeming to ignore the lingering tears in Myrrine’s eyes. In truth, she saw no need to address them. After all, she knew the way out, and so the stranger would not be lost for much longer, and away her tears would go. ”I’m Vinati,” she offered pleasantly, a ghost of a smile turning the corners of her lips up. She regarded their surroundings with a dreamy gaze. ”My mother –“ she started, but she hadn’t the time to finish before a small child rocketed out of the shadows to crash rather unceremoniously (in Vinati’s opinion) into the mare.

However awkward such a scene might have been for another, the little sand princess had never been one for societal norms. And so as the mother-daughter pair held what was sure to be a loving and tear-filled conversation full of apologies and promises of never leaving again, the girl wandered away, keeping an eye on Myrrine’s ghost out of the corner of her eye. He was a striking stallion, though there was a look of distress about him, as though he wasn’t quite sure what to do now that he was dead. ”You’re new, aren’t you?” she whispered, knowing how it would look to the others present if she were to just start talking aloud. When the ghost nodded, his violet gaze flickering toward the little family, the girl smiled sympathetically. ”They’ll be okay. You’ll be together again one day,” she promised. She imagined that the stallion looked a little relieved, after that.

At the conclusion of the reunion taking place nearby, the little sand princess wandered closer. ”My mother has told me a great deal about these caves. If you are looking for something, I could help you find it.” She smiled again, her eyes full of distant daydreams.

"MOMMA!"

It startled Myrrine from the conversation she was having with the foal, only to look and find the beautiful fae she had birthed some time ago. Without much thought tears were welling, filling into her bright eyes as she realize just how much she had truly missed her little one. Swallowing she wanted to approach, to reach out and give her the love the precious thing deserved, but was interrupted by the body of her child slamming deliberately against her udder. As soon as the girl realized there was nothing left for her there she began to wail, a sound so heartbreaking to Myrrine that she wanted to break then and there. Tears were falling, and even again as she tried to embrace her babe, she was off again, showing that spirit she had seen the first day she had come to life. Her heart ached to hold her close and whisper to her that all was well, that momma hadn't meant to leave, honest, she just hadn't been in the best place at the time. Or now, but she was certain she wasn't going to do this to Laume again; because what evil creature would do that to their child? Her... unfortunately.

"L-Laume," she sputtered, throat thick with guilt and pain as she attempted to reach for her little butterfly; to hold her close and tenderly groom the knotted parts of her unkempt mane. She had really been alone these past couple months, and it seemed no one else had really helped her. The thought left a sinking feeling in her stomach, and it only reminded her just how selfish she had been. The tears didn't stop as she continued to groom and snuggle against the bundle she had brought into this world, whispering sweetly into the softness of her ears,"I know my love, I've done an awful thing. I've left you because of my own selfish reasons, and it was unfair of me to do such a thing to you. You don't deserve to be treated that way my dearest, and I promise that going forward, I will take care of you, and I will be there always." Surely she could believe her this time? This wasn't a facade in the spur of the moment, a need to feel like a good mother out of guilt? No, she did love Laume, and she wanted to be there for her no matter what; seeing her in her current state solidified how much she wanted, no needed to be with her each and every day.

Sniffling, she offered her muzzle to hers, closing her eyes to savor the sweet she had begun to forget about in her dreams. Sighing, she looking at her with kind eyes, fluttering them gently and whispering once more,"We will find you some food my dearest Laume, and give me some time to produce milk again, then you can have as much as your heart desires. We can start just after I find something in here quickly." She took  a deep breath, before finally seeing that the beautiful girl from before seemed to be returning from somewhere. It seemed she had left them alone to have their time together. Smiling at the thought, she straightened to her full height and looked at her, nodding pleasantly and beginning to speak once more,"I'm on a quest for the Earth God. I am looking for a coal that never stops burning, and I must bring it back to him in the Vein of the Gods."

She thought deeply, trying to remember if this was correct, before turning back to the spotted and painted damsel next to her,"Laume, would you like to help me find something for my quest?" She tried not to sound so desperate and hopeful in her tone. She knew that their relationship would need time to readjust, for trust to build as time went on. She only hoped that they could keep seeing each other, and that Laume would be pleased to catch up for lost time. Because now that she realized what she had just taken for granted, it hurt her so deeply that she didn't know just how she could forgive herself for abandoning the only thing worth living for in this world.

FROM her spot in the corner of the cave Laume hears her mother's steps approach. Wary eyes cast a sidelong glance to the older mare. Part of the far child wants the mare who was supposed to be her mother to grovel, to cry, no matter how true the actions were. She wants validation. But the other part of the girl wants her real mother: honest and warm.

Her mother's shock, her sadness, those were real enough. "I know my love, I've done an awful thing. I've left you because of my own selfish reasons, and it was unfair of me to do such a thing to you. I will be there always...." Laume's eyes threaten tears, they tremble, but the strong child does not allow them to burst. All the apologies in the world wouldn't take back the time she'd been alone but it was a start. It was like back when she'd been born, before the absence. Maybe she hadn't changed that much? It wasn't as if she'd been gone that long in the first place. Laume hadn't even missed her until a bit ago(Ok, like a week or two but shh).

The filly got up from her spot and shuffled over to brush her mother's nose. It was an acceptance of peace. It was making up in that awkward, patchwork way that all families do. Nothing was really changed and no one felt any better but you still put on a good face and went through the motions because you knew they meant well in the end. A sigh leaves Laume, relieving the built up tension of the moment. She turns towards the exit of the cave, ready to leave to go get some food but her mother's voice causes a pause in her steps. "We can start just after I find something in here quickly."  What could possibly be more important than helping your hurt child? You'd lost the kid, left them behind, gotten caught, and you needed to keep doing what you'd before they'd shown up crying about their hurt shins? "Uh, ok?"

"I'm on a quest for the Earth God..." The filly's face fell. Her mother wanted her help with something that might as well have been part of the reason why she'd left. She had changed from the loving, cuddling mother Laume had spent the first months of her life with. Mother was not an odd, distracted, careless creature who had no place claiming parentage over something. "No" came the whisper. Her mother continued, trying to be upbeat, but Laume said it again, loud enough to hear this time.  "No"

Laume's tiny body shivered in spite of the heat of the lava caves. She stared at her mother, face aghast. It took everything in her to not just scream at her useless mother. Laume didn't hate her, she just wanted back what she'd grown up with. "I love you Momma. You are a good mare and you were a good mother until you left. But I do not think you know what you need to do anymore. I am hungry and I cannot wait. I am going to find someone who will help me and maybe, when you figure yourself out, you can come back to our home in the World's Edge." With that the little filly turned and stumbled her way out of the caves, done with her mother's behavior and utterly done waiting for others to notice her.
