The warrior walked tall in more ways than his physical size. The very presence Archibald held was powerful, commanding respect in such an overwhelming manner that lacked arrogance. Archibald was too collected for arrogance--he had watched arrogance gain so much punishment in his life he was not going to throw himself into the dark pools of the disease. Arrogance had lost Casimir his eyes, arrogance gained some of the scars across Wilder's body. There was no enough prize compared to the loss when a horse danced with arrogance guiding their steps. Archibald knew how to handle himself, and that fact did not have to inflate his chest.

Since the meeting Archibald had extended his patrols and now ventured off after he was finished, his mind constantly racing. He had yet to see his mother and experience her anger and lashes for not reaching the lead position. Archibald did not realize until he found himself in the woods, where his mother was a constant dweller, that he had been avoiding her. Snorting now and shaking his mane to toss the thought away Archibald lifted his legs into a slow, melodic trot. His massive hooves shook the ground as he weaved in and out of trees, Loretta loping in front of him, swerving in and out of his path and changing speeds constantly. The bitch, still being a pup, let nature take over her heart an found enjoyment in simple things like running. It was in her blood, and because of it Archibald moved at quicker tempos now.

Up ahead Archibald could see a fallen tree, just slightly larger than his mother in her panther form, covering his path. Flattening his ears back against his black flesh the knight raised his gait to a collected canter. The ground under him was firm from the cold of Frostfall, but the ice was minimal because of the heavy tree cover. Loretta struck off the path, finding herself a new way because the obstacle was too much for her. Archibald, however, pushed his body towards it. His breed was not meant to jump, but anything to get adrenaline pumping through his veins was pleasurable in his mind. As he closed in he tensed his muscles and, finally, at the precise moment sprung into the air and cleared the log with ease. The giant landed on the earth with the white feathering that surrounded his massive hooves dancing.

"Speak"

The dark mare was aware of the giant lumbering stallion the minute he set hoof in the forest she had begun to call home. He and the pup running at his heels stank of the Foothills. It had been a while since her last visit, but she had heard talk of her parents being voted out of their lead position. Part of her was happy for that because now she would be able to get them to join her and Ophelia. The other part of her thought that the rest of the Foothills were fools. Her parents were good, fair leaders, but what did a majority of Helovia know about good and fair? Not a damned thing.

Ktulu kept her distance as she tailed the stallion. She found it intriguing how his steps almost seemed to rattle the earth. It led to her wondering what was the cause. His massive size alone or did he possess some sort of magic? That, however, was not the forefront of her worries. Why was he in the forest? Why was he not in the Foothills?

Ears tilted forward when the giant stallion moved into a canter and angled his hefty body at a fallen log. She matched his pace, circling around so when he jumped the log she would be in front of him so she could approach him. Archibald had already cleared the log by the time the Constrictor had circled around. He stood and she watched him from her shadowed place among the trees where she blended in almost perfectly.

Finally Ktulu stepped forward, carrying herself with a regal, confident air. "Hello." She greeted Archibald. "You are a long way from the Foothills, are you not?"

Archibald caught knowledge of the mare when he cast his large body into the air. A warning from Loretta tipped him to the newcomer, and so, as his massive body landed, he turned and caught her in her shadowed spot. Loretta quickly approached Archibald, ears flat against her head and her hackles starting to raise. Loretta was quick to jump into protective, defense mode. Archibald sent calming thoughts to her, reassuring her that not everyone was an enemy.

When the mare stepped out of her hiding place and spoke Archibald stood silent for a couple of minutes. His eyes flashed over her, taking in everything about her. His eyes were not hungry as they flashed over the mare, despite her beauty. His brain connected after his eyes gathered the information--she was related to Paladin, and her young age suggested to the dark knight that this mare was the Valiant's daughter. Intrigued, Archibald lifted his head and with it his left eyebrow. "Just because I reside in and protect the Foothills does not make me a slave to its boarders." Archibald's voice was cold, unemotional and yet held authority and power.

Something about this mare Archibald liked--which was a rarity in Helovia. Archibald usually noticed mares as bitches and distractions and nothing less--but this one seemed different. Shifting his weight more comfortably the behemoth took a step forward. His golden eyes locked onto the mare's crimson ones, waiting for her next move and words. Loretta shifted underneath Archibald, her tail flicking at the tip as it stook straight up in the air behind her dominantly.

A hint of a smile crossed Ktulu's face and disappeared just as quickly as it had come. She paid little mind to the dog as she shifted her weight to a more comfortable stance. "Many would disagree with you, Stallion." She answered. "I've known several warriors who consider it their life's work to mindlessly patrol borders and run away those like myself who do not fit in with one's natural assumption of what is normal or acceptable. Or those like you." Almost everyone had their own assumptions on what was normal in regards to looks and what race was superior to the other, but Ktulu did not entertain those notions.

"Where you stand has been claimed by a mercenary group who call themselves the Grey." She informed. "Forgive us for being under the impression that you might have work for us to do." Her weight shifted again and the sunlight that managed to penetrate the trees glinted off of the bronze marking on her right shoulder. "I still believe you seek something. What is it?"

"There is no such standard as normal. Everyone is different; to be normal is to define everything as the same." Archibald spoke clearly, eyes locked on Ktulu's. She spoke of a mercenary group. Archibald lifted his brow this time in a skeptical manner. Tipping his back left hoof forward Archibald shifted his weight to stand comfortably. Obviously this mare was blind in some way--could she not see that Archibald had no need for others to do his dirty work? He certainly had the muscle that even an idiot could understand, and he most surely had the brain to back it up.

"I am not in need of your group, young one." What did she want from him? Archibald knew there was something behind her words and he wanted to know what she was thinking. Loretta shuffled her paws, tail flicking before it curled over her back. The dog watched the mare with narrowed eyes, skeptical because Archibald was, protective because of nature. Loretta did not have a welcoming bone in her body when it came to strangers. She did not like the idea, she did not trust anyone. As her brain processed her ears twitched, much like Archibald's did. Their bond was incredible--Loretta had picked up ticks from Archibald that he did subconsciously, and Archibald learned from her as well, often narrowing his eyes much like the malamute.

No standard for normal? "That's where you're wrong, stallion." Ktulu answered, her tone become cold and emotionless. "Believe what you will, but everyone holds a standard to what normal is and we both defy it depending on which extremist group we go to. Only a fool would believe that no one holds a definition of normal. I don't believe you are a fool, but I could be wrong." She copied the stallion's stance and rested a hind hoof on its tip.

He said he was not in need of her group so she studied him, scrutinized him and decided that he didn't need them because he thought himself capable of doing everything, but she was confident that they could do things he could not. There was no conceivable way she could imagine a great lumbering beast like Archibald spying to get information he needed. As for the herd's spies? She could laugh. "Very well." She answered before turning and disappearing into the shadows of the forest.
