From above, Helovian winter is truly beautiful.

The colt glides along high above the massive white expanse of the Frostbreathe Steppe, feeling the powerful push of the air beneath his feathered wings. A gentle wind laps beneath him and carries him along, requiring the minimal amount of effort on his part. It's peaceful and delightful, the only way to see Helovia in Arakh's opinion. Since he learned how to fly properly, it's been almost impossible to get him out of the sky. A moment spent on the ground is a moment wasted for the bull-horned boy, and there's hardly a corner of the land that he hasn't seen from his position on high.

The calf is growing rather well, already showing the strapping build of his father. Fledgling muscles ripple beneath the grullo coat, and the region where his wings join his body is thick to the touch, toned with hours of flying and practicing. His voice is deep and gruff beyond his years, and he's quite tall for his age too; already he can almost look his mother in the eye. Arakh is not vain by nature, but he does spend rather a lot of hours admiring his appearance in any reflective surfaces he can find to determine whether he's growing and bulking out as he wants to. Thankfully, he is.

Despite his many hours of flying practice, the grullo still lacks in stamina when he's in the air, and needs to land fairly often to replenish his energy. As he feels his gentle wingbeats becoming laboured, he slowly angles himself downwards towards the snow-covered expanse below. He tilts his wings and allows gravity to do its work, gliding him softly towards what he hopes will be an elegant and refined landing. Unfortunately, he does not account for the fact that there's a slight wind lower down compared to the calm higher up; suddenly he feels his body being snatched by the surprise breeze, his folded wings tugged outwards again and his entire form propelled ominously forwards.

He bellows his indignation, but there's not a lot he can do as the errant gust sends him ploughing headfirst into a large snowdrift. His bull horns carve easily through the snow until he's buried up to his hindquarters in it, granting any passersby the comical sight of a colt's back end stuck out from a giant pile of snow. Bleating obnoxiously and thrashing his wings and limbs like a bear caught in a trap, Arakh finally manages to disentangle himself and falls unceremoniously to the ground, feeling his temper beginning to rise as blood pounds in his ears and his flesh begins to quiver. "Yer govak!" he roars at the snowdrift, turning around and kicking the ever-living shit out of it with his back legs until it's nothing but a crushed pile of snow.

You think I'll be the dark sky
The filly wasn’t sure what brought her back toward the Basin. Perhaps it was the urge of nostalgia with the chilled snowy winters that caught a nick in her cold heart. Perhaps it was the fact she had grown up here, won a contest that even had adults trying for it – to see how Deimos thanked her and to know how she didn’t seem like she had to prove herself there. The Edge was different, in the way that there were far too many children – children of which she was related to thanks to her Father. It was definitely the one point that rubbed the filly the wrong way.

Khairi flew above, trailing and hovering over the white earth as his raptors gaze continued to glance about in search of food or entertainment. Meanwhile, Kiada kept her eyes on the ground, watching for any other signs of life or interesting things that could waste the day. Her spotted body moved across the earth with ease in the snow, while her flames danced with a mixture of deer and griffons – a sign of curiosity and confidence as she traversed what seemed like would be a horrible time for anyone else who wasn’t experienced.

Pegasus stuck in snow.” Khairi alerted to her. Kiada rolled her eyes slightly, not really caring that there was a winged creature that got himself stuck in a snow bed. Yet, Khairi seemed ever so willing to see that Kiada saw the entertainment that she did, that he insisted she follow him. After a bought of arguing with the vulture, the filly ended up following to see a greyed ass sticking out of the snow briefly before he pulled himself out and began to kick the shit out of the icy attacker.

Khairi landed among the snow quietly, beside his bonded as he snickered at the colt. However, Kiada – despite how much she wanted to laugh – instead looked at him curiously, recognizing the hybrid from the Edge. Her ears flicked back before she could say anything as he screamed something at the snow, her eyes narrowing slightly as she gazed upon his greyed pelt. “You! You’re from the Edge.” She called out over the snow while Khairi continued his laughing bit. Kiada’s inky legs dragged her closer to the male – completely unafraid that the man was upset. “With the griffons, you were there.” She added on, tilting her ivory lined face as she surveyed him.

The indignation burns against his skin as he glares hard at the snowdrift. How dare it insult him like that! He kicks out at it again for good measure before turning away and swishing his tail angrily, his ears pinned flat against his scalp as he glowers at nothing in particular.

You! You're from the Edge. The voice makes the calf turn, his gaze landing on a filly he recognises from the griffin attack. His heart sinks - a herdmate saw him bailing into the snow? Now that makes it even more humiliating, and the colt shuffles awkwardly. "Yes, Arakh from Edge," he confirms. His ears unpeel from his head and he looks at the filly with interest. She's older than him, and wears only a horn. She bears a striking resemblance to the Edge's King, and Arakh realises that he may be in the presence of a princess; she's an attractive thing, which is odd for the young boy to notice. He tilts his bull-horned head, scrutinising closely, before his attention is snatched by the girl's companion. It is a bird, and a laughing bird. The colt frowns, ruffling his wings and trying not to show how prickled his pride is, before shooting the decimated snowdrift a withering glare.

She then remarks on him being there during the griffin incident, and finally the colt allows himself to smile. He inflates slightly, almost purring with pride at the memory, although the deep wound on his neck from the creature's claws throbs its own opinion on the matter. "Griffins hurt Esinakh, so Arakh attack them. Arakh made fire." The notion of his newfound magic is truly the best thing to come from the incident, as was the knowledge that anger seems to dull his pain. "You there too. Who are you?" His voice is deep for his age, commanding and gruff with its slight odd accent, and his pale gaze peers intently at her as he speaks.

The filly wasn’t quite aware of the social cues that the colt gave off. Whether or not he was upset she had spotted him with his back sticking out of the snow was something Kiada particularly wasn’t interested in. She didn’t think less of him for it. After all, he wasn’t the one that got picked up and dropped by a griffon. She was the one that had suffered that embarrassment. A soft sigh passed through her lips as he agreed to what she had said. She recognized him in the Edge, and it was good to know for the filly that her memory hadn’t failed her.

His eyes were bright as they danced across her. She couldn’t help but to notice the way they both sported darkness seeping up their limbs and melding into their faces. The thought of which caused a smile to make its way across her pink splotched lips. Though it only lasted for a moment or two until he began to speak again on the matter. Though his words caused her to refrain from snorting. “I make fire too.” She acknowledged, turning her body in a two thirds view so he could spot the flames that danced across her spine. They danced in the form of deer and prowling wolves – a combination of her curiosity and deep underlined anger. Arakh had protected someone that hurt them – and yet, Kianzo was unable to do so too. (Though he did try, she just didn’t see it.)

His deep voice rang out to her ears asking who she was and her head lifted slightly, her grin returning in a sheepish yet excited smile. “I am Kiada, and my companion is Khairi.” She tossed her head toward the vulture that had found refuge in a branch reaching out from a tree above them. Her white forelock tossed across her face as she returned her white striped face toward him. “I’m the King’s daughter.” Her voice purred and she offered him a smirk with her head still held high, awaiting what his response might be.

I make fire too. The calf glances upwards with interest, watching the flames that dance across her spine. He snorts, surprised, then edges closer to get a closer look. Wolves and deer tangle across her back in the endless ballet of predator and prey, and Arakh offers a grunt of approval. "You make fire too. Arakh like." Fire is, after all, king of the elements. There's people who wield ice and earth, who control the tides and cast savage tornadoes towards their foes, but none can come close to the sheer destructive power of fire.

Not to be outdone, the bulky colt summons his own magic and sends a fire-wolf and deer erupting from out of thin air. The wolf snaps at the deer's heels and they canter around Arakh and Kiada in a broad circle, leaving a trail of melted snow in their wake. The boy looks to his companion with a broad, aren't-I-awesome grin firmly plastered in place, before he allows his creations to dissolve in a fizzle of smoke.

She introduces herself as Kiada, then adds that she's the king's daughter. Now that she says it, Arakh can see the resemblance between her and the great Elephant King who oversees their herd, and a small glint of admiration slips unbidden into his pale gaze. "Daughter of Elephant? Impressive." But again, the colt isn't to be outdone - a somewhat smug, triumphant smirk creeps onto his muzzle and he puffs out his muscular young chest with the air of somebody about to impart very important information. "Arakh son of Gaucho the Wildfire. Gaucho rule Dragon's Throat herd for many years. Gaucho best warlord Helovia ever seen. Gaucho Sun God's chosen one." He tilts his bull-horned head, just waiting for the praise to be poured upon him for his impressive lineage.

You think I'll be the dark sky
The filly didn’t move as he edged closer, instead she stood taller. Her brilliant blue gaze drinking him in as he stepped closer – the strength that was already beginning to blossom in his frame was noticeable to her, despite them both being mere children. He inspected the animals laced within her fire, and when he grunted his approval and spoke of them the mere phrase “I like” caused her flames to ruffle and shift slightly, as foxes tried to burn their way into the mix of deer and wolves. But then, she watched quietly, her proud smile beginning to falter as he created wolves and deer as actually beasts, dancing around them.

Kiada’s head swiveled to him curiously, a brow raised as if a stake had been claimed on who could outdo each other. But then, he does it again.. Khairi, meanwhile, has decided this sudden competition is extremely funny. He cackled from his perch in the trees as his raptors gaze looked down upon his bonded and the hybrid. Kiada paused as Arakh spoke, trying to think of what she could say in retort, but decided to simply stick with flirting to get the upper hand. She moved slightly closer to him, lowering her dark head to inspect his conformation and his wings, should he allow, before offering a small smirk on her pink splotched lips.

I can see that.” She let her gaze soften on the colt before turning slightly away from him – the scars on her shoulders from the griffons still visible against her gilded pelt. “What do you think of me?” She questioned quizzically, turning her white exotic striped face to look back at him, playing on the idea of how she could see a strong warlord in Arakh – if he could see the strength that lay beneath her bones too.

The bird's cackle draws Arakh's attention from the filly, and he glances up at the vulture with pinned ears. "Why jadro laugh?" He gives an imperious flick of his bull-horned head, glaring up at the bird, before looking back to Kiada.

The closer she gets, the more the grullo hybrid begins to feel...things. Things that, by right, he is still too young to feel - he is barely a teenager, let alone a man, even if he does seem to be developing faster than most. He puts that down to Gaucho's ascended blood, blessed by the Sun God himself, but even so. There is just something about this particular filly that summons the first hint of the future lusts that will rampage around him, and he feels an unusual heat beginning to blossom across his body as she examines him like a piece of meat. He finds himself bulking out each well-formed young muscle beneath her gaze, ruffling his wings to display their powerful arms and pristine feathers. In return, he examines her with an almost predatory attentiveness; the sleek fur, the deadly horn, the dancing fire-creatures. Two can play at her game, and competitive young Arakh is not so easily defeated.

Then she turns, and the absence of her body near to him leaves him feeling oddly cold and empty. A small snort leaves his nostrils, but he resists the urge to follow behind her like a lost puppy. She then asks what he can see in her, and he takes a moment to assess her again. Softly he moves closer, circling her like his wolf and deer had, and seeks to touch each part of her body as he mentions it. "Arakh see strong neck, stout legs, good muscles. Elephant King is big man - Kiada grow big too." That velvet muzzle of his retreats from its physical examination of her, and another wicked grin ghosts across his jaws. "But not as big as Arakh."

This time it's him who retreats, stepping through the snow but never letting his gaze leave her. "Kiada is princess...does Kiada not like to get dirty? Does Kiada like to sit in Edge and preen?" Somehow he doubts it, but he's eager to see her reaction - if it is as vociferous as he hopes, then he will approve greatly.

You think I'll be the dark sky
Warmth blossomed in her aurelian pelt as Khairi’s laughter and enjoyment passed through their bond. She looked to Arakh with a small smile before adding “he thinks we’re competing – though I think it’s because we’re so similar.” She noted, explaining the laughter from the smug vulture sitting along his perch. But then, the conversation is shifting as she steps closer to him, inspecting him, watching as he bulked out his muscles – already surprisingly there despite their young age – and she marvels in the greatness that leaked from his chrome pelt. Kianzo was strong, too, but in a lithe snake-like way. Arakh reminded her of a bull (and not for the obvious reasons) but in the way that he’d take things head on with brute force.

And when he inspected her in turn, she beamed with pride. Khairi had grown tired of their game ending with flirtation as opposed to the competition they once held, and so he took off in a large white flurry against the snow in search of a meal. He hunted while Kiada listened to Arakh proclaim he’d grow bigger, and mentally rolled his eyes. Kiada, meanwhile, offered the bull horned boy a small chime of a laugh. Her flesh, despite scarred, burned with each place along her body he touched, recoiling in excitement and entertainment of what an act so simple could do. “We’ll find out, won’t we?” The joke left her lips as she winked to him.

Then, he was the one to step away. And she felt the sudden warmth of his presence leach away into the cold space he’d occupied. His teal gaze never left hers, though, and perhaps that gave her some solace. And when Arakh continued to speak, she found her dark legs beginning to follow him while Khairi snapped up a small mouse, hidden away under the roots of a tree. “I tend to have the most fun covered in blood.” She mused with a brilliant daring grin. And then, as if Khairi felt the need to emphasize the point, he landed upon her back with the small mouse hanging limp in his dark beak, blood pouring and dripping down his white feathers, landing and staining her spotted rump with warmth. And with that, she laughed quietly at the irony. “You seem like the kind to enjoy getting a little dirty now and then. Is that true?” Tilting her dark head, she paused in her steps after him to see the response.

One regal eyebrow elevates at her first words. They are, indeed, similar - not physically, where they couldn't be more different, but in breeding, in personality, in presence. They are both the spawn of kings, of great men in their own right, and it shows in their well-bred bodies and fierce conversations.

Arakh's pale gaze watches the vulture as it flies away, leaving him alone with the pretty filly. A grin spreads slowly across his face as she states that she prefers to be covered in blood, and her point seems to be proven as her companion returns and devours a mouse upon her back. The colt finds that he cannot take his eyes away from the spurting crimson, staining the filly's rump and back with sanguine liquid. "Arakh's older sister has big bird companion too. Always killing small animals, always making blood." He doesn't really like Oizys, but he likes her fierce eagle companion, and there's similarities to this white vulture. "Arakh like big birds, but Arakh wants to bond to griffin." He's always admired them, and being attacked by one had, oddly, solidified his adoration of them. He is determined to have one for himself, a savage beast of a companion to bring mayhem upon the world alongside him.

Her final words draw another broad smile from him. He ruffles his wings haughtily, lifting his bull-horned head high and proud. "Of course. Arakh like to play rough games and get messy in dirt, but other Edge foals not like it." By that he means Esinakh, but Kiada needn't know that. As much as the calf adores his twin, he knows he cannot play the sort of games with her that he wants to due to her phobia of dirt. "Can Kiada play rough?" He edges closer again until he's toe to toe with her, seeking to look her directly in the eye with a hooded, darkened expression on his face.

You think I'll be the dark sky
Arakh’s older sister has big bird companion too.” He announced, and she studied him for a moment in silence as he continued. Filing his face among the other creature’s she’s met, she began to wonder just who his older sibling was. She wasn’t one to make assumptions, so she remained silent despite trying to figure out a face that fit along with his. But then, Arakh began to speak of wanting to bond with a griffin and her shoulders began to twitch uncomfortably. “A griffin of all things?” She questioned quietly, her dark head tilting to look at him quizzically.

The memory of pain was strong, fresh in her mind from where the griffin had grabbed her and pulled her from the earth. A soft snort escaping her lips as she reflected on the weakness that wormed its way into her mind. She shook her head, then, as Arakh began to step closer to her. His wings ruffled, head pulled proud, and a charming smile ran rogue across his lips. She nodded along with a small laugh. “True.” She admitted, while Khairi continued to pour blood against her gold hide. And then, when the boy edged closer, she lifted her head up taller. Khairi sprang from her back, from among the heatless flame and took to the sky, better to watch and enjoy from above than be in the middle of it.

His head remained in front of her, seeking out her gaze, and she obliged with a small dip of her head. Her own expression sharp and a bit seductive, as if she was aiming to be some type of witch. A smirk crossed her dark lips as she pressed her head closer to his, aiming to run the curved edge of her spiraled horn against his forehead briefly before aiming to hook the edge of her crescent horn against his own budding horns to pull him closer. “As rough as Arakh can handle.” She winked then, pulling away from the colt with a grin, before rearing for show and taking off in a gallop across part of the frozen tundra, hoping he might chase after her before sliding and falling into a hill of snow as he had previously.

A griffin of all things? It may indeed seem slightly illogical for the grullo to want to share his mind with a monstrous feline-avian hybrid when he'd nearly been ripped into pieces by one, but the sheer beauty and raw power of the beasts hadn't been lost upon the young calf. "Griffins strong. Sharp claws, sharp beaks, sharp minds. Arakh and griffin could make fearsome duo." His eyes blaze with blue fire as he thinks of it - him, a griffin-master! Not to mention he'd be able to put the fear of God into Oizys with it, and that is always a bonus.

The filly's vulture takes to the skies, leaving Arakh alone with her once again. He stays perfectly still as she runs her horn across his forehead, the savage point dangerously close to cutting into an eye, or ripping through his skull and destroying him completely. A smirk rises from his lips and his tail arches as he remains still as a statue, until her horn hooks around his own bull ones and jerks him roughly closer. His eyes are darkened pits, his body feeling all sorts of things he shouldn't yet be feeling - shouldn't he be at least two before he starts seeing women in such a manner? He's so close he could touch her, now, and his lips extend to do just that, to taste the fur of her neck, her shoulder...

But before he can make contact, she's gone. The boy unleashes a loud whinny of displeasure, stomping a large forehoof and snorting his surprise at her sudden movement. It takes a second to realise that she's testing him, and that's when the smirk returns tenfold; if she wants to be chased, then she will be chased. He breaks into a gallop, his hooves thundering across the snow like the hammering beat of a war drum, but she's already got too much of a head start for him to be able to catch her on foot. So he unfurls his wings and launches into the sky, snatching at the air beneath his feathered appendages and flying; his concentration is paramount as he soars after her, determined not to let her get away.

For show, he summons two wolves of fire which pelt forwards until they're alongside the fleeing filly, leaving a trail of melted snow in their wake. They seek to nip their flaming jaws at her heels, trying to trip or slow her whilst their master catches up with her on wing - if she wants to play rough, then she will have her wish!

You think I'll be the dark sky
She still couldn’t understand the appeal in the griffin, but she wasn’t one to argue with the colt whose mind was set on getting one. And so she continued with her own little game instead, hooking her curved horn against his bull-shaped ones and pulling him closer to her with a brilliant smirk against her lips. And then, she was off. Kicking up the snow as her dark hooves raced across the Steppe, figuring that her longer legs might have given her a better shot at gathering more distance that Arakh wouldn’t be able to catch up.

Oh, how she was wrong. She didn’t take into account his mighty wings, soaring him into the sky above her as she began to feel heat radiating near her ankles. Turning her dark head slightly as she ran, she noticed two fiery creatures trying to nip at her heels. A whinny of delight from the destruction they both seemed to leave escaped her maw in the form of a laugh, her determination growing stronger as she began to feel the heat and singed hairs on her fetlocks. She focused harder now, deepening her gallop as she pulled her body along, tossing her head in the air up at Arakh as a wide grin spread across her lips.

A snow bluff came into view, and she continued to run full speed at it, not calculating what kind of things could be on the other side. She reached the edge of it before jumping over it, gaining air and speed as sweat began to bead along her pelt, darkening her golden pelt. When she landed on the other side, her hooves clicked against a thick sheet of ice before sending her sliding across the side of a small hill. She couldn’t stop, regardless of how hard she tried to stop the slide, and when she reached the edge of the sleet where the snow had begun to grow hard again, her speed and trajectory caused her to roll a few feet.

At first, the flames along her back sparked with snakes, but soon was overcome by otters, swimming around along the snow as she laid on her side. A giggle escaped her lips as Khairi swooped to a nearby tree, his beady red eyes making sure his bonded was alright. Kiada was fine; a ltitle shaken up perhaps, but oh was it entertaining. “Did you see that?” She laughed, sitting up slightly, though still remaining on the ground if Arakh chose to approach her, her blue gaze aiming to land on the dark handsome colt.

Compared to the screams of fear he thought he might hear when the wolves bit at her heels, he's rather surprised to her a whinny of pleasure instead. It seems he's underestimated her; the thought makes him smirk with delight. He pins his wings to accelerate him through the air, soaring closer and closer to the filly.

Suddenly she jumps, and it's like she's flying, too. The colt unleashes a concerned whinny and beats his wings to lift him higher, so he's able to see when the filly crashes down on the other side and slaloms across the ice. The wolves, unable to jump without their creator's bidding, smash straight into the snow pile with an explosion of flame. They disintegrate away into nothing, but not before they've burnt a hole almost clean through the drift. On the other side, Arakh dives down in time to see Kiada skidding off the ice and back onto the snow, collapsing in a crumpled heap.

He circles, lands heavily next to her - this landing is far more elegant than the last one, and he's rather proud of himself as he folds his wings carefully against his sides and peers down at the filly. "Arakh saw," he says with a grin, eyeing the flaming otters on her back. "Is Kiada hurt?" He's all for rough games, but also holds concern for his herdmates and friends.

Sweat stuck to her gilded hide, darkening it to an almost bronze hue while her dark head remained dark as she looked for Arakh, heavily but elegantly landing beside her. He peered down at her while Kiada continued to giggle quietly. Stretching her legs slightly, she aimed to stand up, though her hooves slipped against the ice. She glanced up to his grin as he mentioned he saw her magical flight. Then, he asked if she was hurt and she shook her head grinning in return.

Don’t worry, Arakh. It takes more than that to hurt me.” She winked to him before giggling once again and trying to stand. Once again, she failed, and let her gaze land on the handsome colt in front of her as she raised an eyebrow. “The ice is a bit slippery, however, maybe you could help me up?” She questioned, cocking her head before stretching her dark head out toward the colt.

"Talk."

@Arakh <3

IT'S SAID SHE'S MADE OF STORM CELLS
AND A WILD WOLF'S HUNGRY HEART,
THAT SHE'S LEARNT THE LIGHTNING'S SECRET
TO RIPPING DARKENED SKIES APART.
