It was selfish of Isopia to want to rid herself of the bone-sword that Virgil had left behind. It had lingered with her after his death, and every time she looked at it it was a horrible reminder of what she had done.

No, that wasn't right. It was what she had more or less failed to do. It had been Hubris who had ultimately put to rest the gentle grey warrior. Isopia had merely placed him on the edge of the cliff of death, but it was Hubris who had the true strength to push him off of it. The knowledge that she had let her emotions interfere with the obligations she had willingly taken on, combined with the implications that perhaps Hubris was a far deal greater than she, troubled her greatly. It upset the balance in her mind, the structure of the world and how she fit into it.

Perhaps by getting rid of the sword, she could get rid of some of the emotional baggage that his death had left her with.

Emotional baggage.

Isopia.

What was the world coming to.

"I could leave it in the middle of the pool." Isopia mused. The bone-sword hung in the air, held by the ghostly phantom who apparently wielded it on her behalf. Hubris looked towards her, casually shrugging as he plucked a flower from the ground and twirled it between his claws.

Tae's grin was wolfish and cunning as she slunk through the thick verdant greenery. She knew that there was little hope now of recovering her lost cloak...her wolves had not been able to pick up the scent and despite their best efforts at tracking the thief, they'd seen nothing that gave them any clues. Tae had thought for sure the culprit would show up at one of Kisamoa's little gatherings, but if they had, her cloak had protected them.

Her cloak.

Fire bubbled in her throat, but Tae's milky-white eyes were placid. She would find them. One day.

Mal and Hel ran ahead, and as they neared the ruby-red pool they slowed to a walk and sent mental images of Isopia, her dragon, and the sword back to Tae. That it was  bone sword was something that immediately appealed to the girl, but that it was wielded by a ghostly hand was fascinating. It was like it was made just for her. Indeed, Tae's body began to wisp away and become rather ghostly just at the thought, as her excitement grew.

Slinking forward from the underbrush, the mandible-marked mare strode into the clearly inhabited by Isopia and Hubris.

"Shouldn't you be cleaning up, as per Kisamoa's instructions?" The healer asked, her voice like a thorn covered in ice.

Isopia looked towards where Tae had emerged. The demigoddess who had never really experienced fear regarded the intruder calmly and without recollection of who she was.

Hubris remembered though. Carefully he veiled his thoughts so that the memories that Isopia had erased would not seep through their bond, back into her brain. Though without more context, they likely wouldn't make sense anyways. Still, in looking at the girl, Hubris couldn't help but think of her and her sister digging up the bones of Isopia's lost child and running away with them. He couldn't fathom a reason why they would do something like that, but because he hadn't seen her since, he hadn't really given it more thought.

Now, with Isopia's bone-sword so close, he wondered if she was here to steal the bones of yet another creature that Isopia had killed.

"I could ask you the same thing." Isopia replied almost immediately, having not noticed Hubris's behaviour. Her voice was calm and academic as usual, and she looked at Tae as if seeing her for the first time. Almost nervously, Hubris glanced towards the mare and her wolves, wondering if she would say or do anything that would betray this pretence of meeting for the first time.

Tae shrugged and slunk slightly closer, her wings pinned tightly against her flanks.

"But I am not the daughter of the earth god." She retorted. She was the daughter of a god as far as she was concerned, even if he was only mortal. Gaucho had been an untouchable and unstoppable force during his life. Who else in these lands could claim a roster of achievements so vast as his? And even if they could, Tae wouldn't hear it. Her Father had been everything to her, and she would not hear otherwise. "The same God who tasked Kisamoa with his duties." Tae's pale eyes moved to the sword, hovering about the water, held by the ghostly hand, and then back to Isopia.

"But you're here. Far away from where you're needed. " Mal and Hel came to sit at Tae's sides, looking intently at the bone sword. They'd never fought a dragon before, but both assumed that they would be up to the task, and so they gave Hubris no real attention.

"Why is that?" Tae asked pointedly and flatly.

It did not surprise the demi-goddess that this mare before her knew who she was and knew of her lineage, but never before had her Father's name been invoked in such a challenging manner before. Normally it was offered in reverence, and though Isopia didn't particularly care for the near-worship-like admiration she often received, it was strange to see such an entirely different spin put on her lineage.

"I have been helping." She said, realizing that her voice had taken on the quality of one who was trying to justify their position and hating herself for it. "But I doubt my duty extends any further than the rest of Helovia's, simply based on my lineage and the fact that Kisamoa cited my Father's name in justifying his actions."

Isopia's tail flicked slightly at the abruptness of Tae's line of enquiry. It wasn't that Isopia mind direct questions, she appreciated them and often found them to be in short supply around Helovia - it was just ... strange"It is quiet here, since so many are back cleaning up near the marshes. I wanted time to think."

"Think about what?" Tae asked almost immediately, picking up the ball of thought that Isopia had dropped at her hooves. The mandible-marked mare moved slightly closer. Her body was solid now, wholly girl. Her heart beat was calm and steady, and other than the panting of the wolves at her side, the trio were nearly still. Only Tae's eyes moved, and that was only to dart back and forth between Hubris, Isopia, and the ghost holding the sword above the water.

Through their bond, Tae could feel the mouths of the wolves begin to salivate as they could scent of some small game animal nearby. Her attention however, held them firmly in place and they didn't dare disobey, nor did they necessarily want to. Tae was their alpha and thus far, had never led them astray. Hel licked his chops and turned his gaze to Hubris, idly wondering what dragon would taste like. Was there meat under those scales?

"To think about what to do with that." Isopia answered honestly, nodding towards the bone-sword. "I killed the man who had it, and so it became mine. It's funny really.." A smile, though not one with any warmth, passed over Isopia's features for a moment, before disappearing just as suddenly as it came. "The bone that it's made from comes from the Tiger Goddess who attacked during the Rift Wars..." Isopia paused for a moment, as if lost in a memory. "I killed her too." She added, as if saying the words to herself more than to Tae.

Isopia's golden eyes snapped back into focus, and she looked towards the mandible-marked mare and her wolves. "I was going to drop it into the lake. Just another bone among many."

The sword hovered on the surface of the water as if reaction to Isopia's mention of it. In a way it was, for as her attention was drawn to her, the magical tether that controlled the ghostly apparition strengthened. The tip of the blade touched the surface of the ruby pool, causing ripples to lazily flow away from it, in concentric circles.

"DON'T DO THAT-" Tae nearly screamed, now lunging forward towards the pool as if that movement alone would somehow protect the sword. As she did this, both Mal and Hel followed her with fluid, bound movements. Their hackles immediately raised and they barred their teeth as if that was in any way helpful. Tae's body began to wisp away at the edges, and as her panic and desire increased, so too did her similarity to a ghost become.

"You don't need to-" Tae gasped, her voice calming slightly but the words still pouring out. Taking a breath and swallowing, the healer tried to compose herself. "Why throw away such a valuable thing? Even if you don't want it-" She hesitated just for a fraction of a second, hedging. What to say? How to make this situation go the way she wanted it to? "-I would like it."

She was going to say that someone would like it, but in the end, opted to be more clear, more direct. She did want it after all, and had she said someone, perhaps the earthen mare would have suddenly recalled a sibling whose birthday she forgot, or someone who she owed a debt to whom the sword would count as payment.

Hubris, thinking that all of this was some ridiculous tableau that he didn't understand, or a bad dream, could only stare. As the girl and her wolves lunged forward, the dragon bristled. Sparks and frost errupted from his jaws as he opened them to emit a trill of warning. The sound was far harsher than was his usual timbre, as were his eyes. He remembered this three, even if Isopia didn't.

The demigoddess meanwhile, seemed to actually be considering what Tae had to say. The mare's words made sense; just because Isopia did not want the reminder of the lives that she had taken, did not mean that it should go to waste. It was a powerful artifact after all, one that her father had crafted from the bones of the Tiger God and given to the newly-departed Virgil.

Iso's golden stare moved to the water, where the blade glided up and away from the ruby liquid, and towards her side. "Alright." Isopia said, offering a small shrug of her tall and lean shoulders. "Then it's yours." Not one normally prone to sentimentality, Isopia paused for a moment, as if allowing a thought to roll back and forth on her tongue. "The man who wielded it before...the one I killed...His name was Virgil. I'd ask that you remember that." She said, knowing that there was no reason for Tae to listen to her, nor anyway that the demigoddess would know if her instructions were followed. Still, it seemed important somehow.

With a nod, the sword gently moved towards Tae, and as Isopia released the magical hold she had on it, it clattered to the floor at Tae's hooves.

Isopia gives the sword to Tae.
