Spring was a busy time, especially for the insects, and one such colony of carpenter ants, along the not-so-poorly lit outskirts of the Dark Forest, could display this truth no more poignantly. In a winding line, they march, their powerful jaws laden with leaves, bark, and foodstuffs, all stoically carried back to their honorable Queen, and the ant hill, a sizeable mound of granules and ant spit, nestled at the feet of a decaying tree, literally teems with the little soldiers carrying out their duties.

Watching the ants greedily, five spiders dangle from a nearby branch. Not small spiders, to be sure, the ancient orb weavers have lived many years together; strange for more than just their large size, the siblings were most peculiar for the fact that they had never separated from one another in all their lives. Sharing each other’s skills and webs had served them well, the five firmly of the belief that they were the last and only survivors of their clutch; winter, however, has left them quite hungry (giant spiders need a lot of food, you see). Staring down at the ant colony, and seeing a plentiful supply of bug juice crawling about, the elder spiders also see a lot of their death down there.

Truth was, the very same thing that kept them dangling so close, is what kept them waiting for the feast at all. One or two ants against a fist sized orb weaver would be nothing, but the whole mound? That was a different story. So, the five watch from their safe locations, and ponder how best to go about capturing their much needed prey.

"Obscure their scent trail," clicks and whispers the most observant brother, who had noticed that rain left ants lost, without a path to follow. Two of the female siblings agree, but the other male chatters his dissent, one segmented leg slowly waving in the direction of the first speaker.

"No!" he disagrees, turning, instead, to their superior size and strength, "we should dig a trench about the hillock, and fill it with water."

All three of the females shudder and clack their fangs in horror. No orb weaver liked water, much less went out their way to touch it!

"It is not safe to be close or wet," states the only sibling of the five to have remained still and silent all this time, gesturing out to the gathering Helovians with one of her limbs, and drawing many multitudes of black, spidery eyes in the direction of the crowd, "perhaps we should just ask them for help?"

[ This is an EARTH MAGIC DROP. Participants will have 72 hours to reply to each round. Please include any previous, Earth Magic refusals, or the number of extra VOTG rolls you would like to use with your post.

The orb weaver spiders are looking for a way to eat up the carpenter ants, and would like your help! You may use one of the methods suggested by the siblings, or create your own. The spiders will help by making webs, but will not go near the anthill, for fear of their safety. Have fun and good luck! ]

He was not sure why he had chosen to come to the Dark Forest today, other than it was close to the Hidden Falls, and thereby close to Ranjiri. She had seemed odd lately, but he didn’t press her too much, aware that mourning, and loss, were strange mistresses; he only hoped that, soon, she would come back to him, the way she had been when he’d left her, and they could be happy again. Not to say that he wasn’t happy, of course - more that she wasn’t, and there was nothing he could do about it but wait.

They had spent some days together in service to Kisamoa, at least, and it had felt nice to be out with her again. He held tight to that small solace as he wandered into the wood, the shade cool against his back, and his mind daydreaming of Ranjiri’s moonlight hair, cascading down her midnight shoulders.

It was strange to have thoughts not of his crafts, but good, also; most of the time before, his sidetracked dreaming had been of worse things, the wickedness that he had committed, or the shadows that lived in his heart. He had often thought of Kahlua, and how she hadn’t loved him, and of Semira, and how she’d gone away, seemingly alongside her mother. There had been a time, not so long ago, when he’d dwelled on hurts and absences, on death and change, but now, he thought of Ranjiri, with Letha at her side, and all those cold dark places seemed gone, far away.

Strange, to think he was actually happy, but not as strange as five very big spiders hanging from a nearby tree. Looking towards them curiously, his crystalline eyes glimmering with wonder (he’d never seen such large arachnids before, you see), he slowly steps towards them, his gaze eventually making its way from their incredibly colored torsos, to the ants below.

Taking in their predicament, he looks about for a suitable stick, for the plot which comes to mind. Returning with it shortly thereafter, the long tailed Y branch seems perfect to sweep up ants onto. Extending the V part of the stick towards the spiders, he politely asks (while eyeing their sizeable fangs nervously): "Could you cover this in some strong, sticky web, please?"

The small hooves of the boy trotted through the thick forest. Golden eyes were weary but filled with brightened light from the sun's peeking rays. Soon he came upon something odd and unusual. Slowing down to a halt the boy walked towards the quiet clearing, and then his hooves came to a standstill. Peering through brightened orbs, he watched some rather large spiders. They talked and gossiped about the ant hill that was not too far away. His growing golden horned skull tilted and watched the creatures speak about what they should do. Clearly, the little beast's were hungry and looked at the small ants like an excellent steak dinner. The spiders did not dare go near the hill. Zubari could not blame them because the ants would attack the predator if they came near their home. So the boy got an idea. Slowly he walked towards the eight-legged friends and smiled.

"Hello, I noticed that you would like a bite of those tasty ant's. I would like to help you. If one of you could make the web to the left and right of your own, I have a grand idea. " Then he goes trotting off into the woods. Hunting, the boy was looking for the perfect plant. Sniffing the leaves and the stems his nose ripped and snorted away from the one he was looking for that would aid in his grand plan. Small hooves scraped off some pieces of the stem, and they curled into little rolls on the ground. Carefully Zubari picked up curls of the plant and trotted back to the ant hill. Golden eyes looked to the spiders wiping his legs with the plants. Then he brushed it over his whole body. Those ants were not going to attack him! Zubair then began working on the idea he had. Carefully he rubbed the cinnamon plant in a U shape trying to trap them in the small area. He would leave the curls in some spots for extra protection. From many times playing in the woods, Zubari discovered most bugs did not like cinnamon, and they would avoid the plague. Then carefully the boy trotted towards the hill. He was going to obscure the scent path and try to herd the ants towards the spiders. Placing the cinnamon curls around the ant hill. Hopefully, the ants would run away towards the spiders, and the webs would tangle the little steaks for their feast. he could not get too close to the spiders because of the cinnamon the laced his pelt. Zubari did not want to hurt the hungry creatures. "I hope this helped you." The boy called over to the spiders.

"Talk."

She had been told not to go to the Dark Forest, especially alone, but Maude’s adventurous heart would not be trapped by mere words alone. Inside her chest, that heart thuds with excitement, dainty hooves gracefully carrying her though the ever thickening forest trails. Careful to never go far enough in that the light couldn’t reach her, the storyteller’s daughter eagerly seeks a few tales of her own, her growing size lending her a growing bravado, when it came to sneaking out and away from home.

The ginger and cream girl is rather delighted, then, when she stumbles upon a family of spiders, planning to eat some ants. Already there, Zubari and a stallion she does not know earn a warm smile each, but it’s towards her spotted friend that Maude meanders, rather than the stranger.

Hey Zubi!” she cheerfully greets him, her nose wrinkling up at his pungent, cinnamon smell, “boy, you smell… cinnamon-y.

She giggles, sniffing the curls of the spice, and promptly sneezing several times. While the ants probably won’t like the stuff, Maude finds that she can’t stand such an odiferous method, either, and begins to glance around for something she can try, too.

Oh, I know!” she exclaims, when she concocts an idea. Moving towards the spider’s web, hoping to help Zubari’s plan out, the filly begins to nudge a dirt ridge up to the very bottom of the sticky barrier, so that the ants have no choice but to try and make their way through the entrapping strands.

[ OOC: Helps Zubari with his plan, by making dirt mounds under the webs, so the ants can't crawl under them. :) ]

The serpentine gelding had never stepped food in this part of his new country, in fact, he was fearsomely un-travelled. There had not been any grand journeys north to where it always snowed, nor had he made much of an attempt at the eastern herdland. The south and his western territory had been where he spent most of his time watching, lurking, prowling.

Proud pearlescent hooves striking the earth with a bored kind of precision, Toulouse trudged through the firs in an attempt at finding something interesting. It was spooky, though that was the only charm this dense, tree-filled space provided.
The squealing voices of children came to his ears with a small amount of joy; something that probably hadn't happened to him before given his generic attitude of distaste towards younger ones. Toulouse would tell you that he despised their innocence, when in reality he simply coveted it. It was children who believed that honey sprung from rivers and gold from trees - that kind of naïvety was something the serpent would always long for in exchange for the brutish, blunt mind he had been given.

One of the children was Maude, the daughter of the doctor and Arah. The other was a colt he didn't recognise.
Another stood with them, a sturdy gent who seemed fixated on something the specter couldn't actually see. Upon further studying the scene Toulouse noticed they were all in fact muttering to the air.

Concerned, Toulouse stepped fourth with a great frown across his brows. "What are you-" Oh.
Spiders? of course.
Standing up tall and awkward as ever the pale one watched as the children begun to beckon the ants towards a web; this was when finally a smile began to break upon his face like a wave. How cunning of them.
"I wonder if there's a way to speed them up..."

The beast is not particularly fond of spiders. They are odd, creepy little creatures, all crazy black eyes and more legs than any beast really needs, with wicked pincers and the ability to spin a web and paralyze their prey. They are admirable, yes, but creepy as fuck along with it.

Ones that come flush with gifts, though, are a whole different story. Volterra is shallow enough to push aside his dislike of the many-legged insects if there is a sniff of power on the horizon, which is how he finds himself amongst a small crowd staring thoughtfully at five needlessly large spiders and pondering how best to help them kill their ant-shaped dinner.

Volterra is not in the habit of helping other creatures catch their food, but this is different, because this is one of those odd events that usually end with a boon. It has been a while since he acquired new power, a different strength to add to his already monstrous arsenal, so he decides to tackle the task with gusto.

There's a stallion requesting that the spiders coat a stick with web, which is a rather good idea. Volterra isn't the sort to follow other's ideas when he can come up with his own, however, so instead he eyes the two foals who are building a ridge up towards the webs. Summoning his magic, he creates three small spider-golems of a similar size to the spiders themselves, their eight-legged bodies veined with lava and their pincered faces glowing with dozens of fiery eyes. The leviathan mentally urges the spiders around the ants, trying to prong them from three sides and herd them towards the ridge that the two foals are making. The intimidating size of the stone spiders, in addition to the fact they exude heat from their cracked carapaces, should hopefully frighten the ants into running straight towards the trap set by the children.

i want to be wild, beautiful and free

She wants her magic back. Well, the tiny little pieces of her magic that she might be able to earn in this prison, anyway. But whatever, she wants her magic back. Still, sometimes she wishes she just didn’t stumble on some of the things that happen in this place either. Today it is spiders and ants, and in truth, it’s not like she has a clue if the spiders will reward her for helping. She can only hope that the large – like overly large, she would rather be anywhere else large – spiders will reward her for playing with bugs.

Why was she in the Deep Forest in the first place? For the same reason she was anywhere that was not the Threshold, Falls, or Endless Blue; she was heading to one of those places. Today she was on her way to the Endless Blue when the ginormous spiders caught her attention. Okay, maybe not that large, but they were easily still the size of her hoof. Which is just not okay. And they were staring rather hungrily at an ant hill, which was teeming with ants.

Somewhere in here, this day definitely ended with her getting bitten to high hell.

Still, she goes. There’s already a few horses there trying to wrangle the ants. Dragomir and that boy with his millions of questions (he totally has a name, and she’s pretty sure its Zubari or something like that). There’s others she doesn’t know, and other than a nod at Dragmoir and Zubari, she doesn’t stop to chat. That said, she does stop for a moment to watch what everyone is up to.

They’ve all set up various traps for the ants with webs. Some stallion….no, not stallion, actually, just a feminine dude – stands there asking if there’s a way to speed them up. She knows, having stepped on enough ants in her life, that those dead ant’s friends come flocking. Why? She hasn’t a clue. If she knew anything about biology, she’d know it’s related to the way ants communicate using pheromones, and that a smashed ant brings a lot of other ants that are often angry to the rescue. But she doesn’t need to know the mechanics behind why it happens. Just that it happens.

She thinks for a moment about using the webs already set up, but she cares enough not to get anyone else bitten to high hell. So instead, she finds another place where the spiders could weave a web that is set away from everyone else. “Could you put a web here too?” she asks, feeling ridiculous for talking to spiders but knowing they can hear and understand her.

When they are done, she grabs a large leaf in her mouth and sticks it in front of some of the marching ants until a few have piled onto the leaf. Moving quickly, given that there are now ants on a leaf that is literally in her mouth and eating ants and having her legs possibly bitten are two very different things, she makes her way behind the web she had the orb spiders build. She drops the leaf quickly and then promptly stomps on the ants. Possibly she should feel bad for what she’s just done, but really, she’s feeding that spiders so the ants are going to die anyway,

She’s pretty sure she should be close enough that some of the ants will leave their task at hand. The smell of their dead friends should bring them racing from their path toward the scent, and hopefully into the web that stands directly in their path. With luck, the ants are not smart enough to head around the web. But the web is large and there’s enough trees and other bushes standing in their way that she hopes they have no choice but to get stuck.

The boy was not normally one for large crowds, but he would happily make an exception if talking arachnids asked him of it.

Though Ru'in was but a boy, already his body had grown far larger than those of boys his age. Despite Birdsong's heat, Ru'in was still covered in a thick and matted coat of hair. With a grunt, he appraised the situation, offering no help or insight until he had felt that his mind had properly understood the scope of the situation.

With a grunt, Ru'in created a large circular shape which bowed low in the middle; like a long and shallow bowl. Small holes appeared in it - too small for the carpenter ants to fall through, but perhaps small enough for the granules out of which they built their home...He looked towards Volterra, eyeing the large stallion untrustingly for a moment. The mutant boy shook his head slightly, realizing that his plan would work far better with the stallion's assistance than without it.

"Khan thehy heaht thus?" He asked, his lips coming together beneath his long tusks. Ru'in attempted to use the bronzey-bowl he had conjured to scoop out the top of the hill. The bowl shook back and forth, trying to act like sieve so that the dirt and sand would fall through and leave the ants. With the help from Volterra's fire, they would die from the heat transmitted through the bronze and be unable to escape.

Ru'in created a sieve out of bronze and tries to scoop up a bunch of ants, shaking it slightly so that only the ants remain. He asks Volterra to move his fire-golemns beneath it, so that the ants die from the heat transferred through the bronze.

Another day, another strange happening in the world of Helovia. This time, five large spiders were seeking the help of the gathered Helovians to get at their ant meals safely.

The others were all coming up with ingenious ways to help the spiders get to their meal, but Alysanne wasn’t so sure. She understood that carnivores needed to eat other creatures to survive, but the whole point was that they did the hunting themselves. Hemlock didn’t wait around for her to kill mice and insects for him to eat. These spiders were waiting on others to help them out and deliver their meal and, while Alysanne understood that the point was the reward they would hand out at the end, she wasn’t sure she really agreed with it.

Hemlock was just eyeing the spiders and thinking about how tasty they would be, if only they were a little smaller. At the size of a fist, they were only a little smaller than he was.

Still, the owl understood their plight a little more readily than his bonded and fluttered off of her head as she watched Dragomir and Maude help out, a soft smile on her face for these friends. Hemlock flew towards the ants and provided a few downdrafts from his small wings to try to send them scattering into smaller groups that would be less intimidating for the spiders.

Bugs… aren’t really her thing. And to be honest, Yael hasn’t the foggiest idea of how to improve upon the plans that others have made. Disrupt their scent trail? Sure, sounds awesome. Fool around with water? Drown them? Excellent. Let’s find a way to make a bucket quickly. Burn them?! Even better! Toasted ants must be a tasty snack for spiders (unless they like them rare and kicking). What is unclear is how many they want - and where? In a trap, for them to pick off themselves? Already dead, so that the horses are essentially both butcher and cater waiter?

Water isn’t likely to work here - it will simply soak into the earth. So they must use other ways. By the smell of it, some got into cinnamon, others are trying to use sticky webs to trap them. It seems to Yael that what they really need is something to lure the ants into a trap, and then stick them there. Honey, maybe? It is spring, and there are flowers, and where there are flowers, there are bees. Except that is just a liiiiiiittle too much to take on. So no honey. But what else is sweet? Oh! Honeysuckle! It takes Yael awhile, but eventually, she is able to find a honeysuckle vine and yank a decent string of flowers off of it. When she returns, Yael carefully places them on the ground, and gingerly ‘crushes’ them, one by one.

That done, she, too, asks the spiders to coat a medium-sized stick with an entrapping web, so she can stand there, and pick up the tricksy little ants one by one, as they are lured in by the smell. She’ll let some get away, of course, to tell the others. But this meal shall be many’s last.

The Dark Forest irked the strange calf. The trees were so…random. There was no order. And the ancient bark was rough, just waiting to scrape her coat or snag her feathers. Feathers that, at the moment, were gleaming and perfectly in place.

With hesitant steps, the small filly wove around the trees. She was looking for her twin-calf. Though she had followed him to the Throat to be with family, it sometime seemed that Rak spent more time with other parts of their family outside of the Throat than with her in their new home.

So, she started off in search of him—but instead found a gathering of others. And some talking spiders. Her brows rose, eyes wide—and though she didn’t particularly appreciate the spiders, themselves, she did appreciate their webs. "Webs nice." They were so clean, organized, and symmetrical! That, alone, inclined her to help the arachnid family… But everyone gathered thus far was doing so many things… However, a few ants were escaping in their own trail. But what could she do? All she had was her clay…

With trembling limbs, she dipped her shoulder and let a clump of ever-present, wet clay plop to the earth, interrupting some escaping ants’ path. An alarmed, fearful snort left her white-snip nostrils as her body shook ferociously. Wide eyes stared at the offensive, shapeless mount of grey clay that successful stopped the ants—

But then they started to go around it. With alternating clay plops, snorts, and shaking, the strange filly continued to block any escaping ants.

It is well on towards the heart of the spring time months and all the snow has melted away, at least it has done so in the southern and central lands.  Perhaps further north this is not the case but the sandy coated colt never goes north and so he can offer no evidence of this one way or the other.

Patrick has been working his way back southward from the westward beaches for a few days now.  Maybe because he has grown board with roaming or maybe because he is feeling guilty about not checking in at home lately.  Still, guilty or not he is certainly in no hurry to get where he is going.  His hooves step with a surety and purpose but his pace does not grow beyond an energetic walk.  Some nights he stops to sleep and others he does not.  The most recent night was one of the later kind.  Though that time it wasn't by choice.  He'd come upon a nice sheltered dip at the base of a grassy knoll and settled himself in, still standing of course, only to get rained right out.  Patrick has not in the past appeared given to bad tempers but that rain sure seems to have done it.

So it is that, distracted by his unnaturally foul mood, the sandy-coated lad overshoots his destination and ends up going much farther east than he likely intended.  Now the boy has come to the edge of a deeper, darker wood than any he has ever seen.  He stands at that edge peering tentatively in at the thick blackness and dancing his weight left to right as he presumably considers whether or not to enter.  Once he turns to begin retracing his steps back to the trail he knows but this doesn't last long before he is again gazing almost hungrily at the unknown place.

In the end he enters and travels cautiously along until he finds yet another meeting of mostly adults and some children centered around a small group of non-horse creatures... spiders to be exact.

Oh, no, no, NO! Not again!  I've just spent time gathering nasty, filthy bones at the command of the weird water thing.  Sure, I went at the task with the same gusto that I do every task I put myself to but I didn't like it.  Since then, I've decided I will not do anymore gathering without finding out why because I always ask why about everything else and why shouldn't I ask why about gathering too?  Even though I really like gathering...

Of course, I will still help Big-Horn and Gold-Crown because I said I would and their gathering is a good kind of gathering... I think.  Also, all those shiny rocks I like to find aren't bad things I don't think so that is probably OK too.  But gathering ants for spiders?  No, that I wont do.

One, they are icky, sticky, spiders....

Two, ants live in dirt and I am already dirty enough from that stupid rain.

Three, these spiders want to eat the ants don't they? I don't ask other people to bring me my food, well not anymore, so why are these spiders doing it?  Are they babies?  They don't look like babies...

For a short time the boy just watches looking between the active horses and the plotting arachnids.  There are some among the horses that he recognizes but none that he really knows, yet.  After studying the productivity of the others he weaves his way through the crowd trying not to disturb their work, he may have grown cautious and questioning and even momentarily grouchy but he is still not the type to maliciously ruin someone else's project.  At least not on purpose. Coming to stand off at the side of a web he narrows his soft blue gaze on the nearest spider, flips his ears back belligerently and voices just one word.

"Why?"

He followed the pull once more as it lead him from his sandy home. He was headed West this time moving at a steady ground eating canter. His young body was making it's finally transformation from awkward useless foal to a strong stallion. He smiled softly as he thought of the power his body would hold one day. It wavered slightly as he thought of his uncertain future. If he followed in his father's hoof prints he would be a warrior tried and true, but if he followed his mother he would be a worthless wanderer. Neither sounded that amazing to him though. He was much to large to be stealthy, but he feared being shunned for what his heart called for. Shoving the thoughts away he pushed his thick legs faster.

The scents of horses caught his attention as he reached the Deep Forest and he slowed. When he reached them the stallion looked at the others curiously for a moment before he spotted what was going on. He stepped forward looking at what was going on. It didn't take the young man long to realize what needed to be done, but how? He stepped up next to his massive father and felt helpless. A strange burning sensation started in his chest and spread out growing with intensity. He felt like he couldn't breath and he clenched his eyes shut tight.

When the pain ended and he could move again the stallion opened his mix matched eyes and realized he had shrunk! Panic was the first thing that crossed his mind, but he shoved it back. His mouth opened to speak, but it wasn't his horse mouth. A beak clacked shut instead. He turned his head to look at his feathered body. His eyes widened and he looked up at his father in amazement. He had magic! Had it had been there all along, he could tell that now that he had tapped into it. He couldn't wait to try out flying, but now he would have to deal with the hungry spiders. Hopping forward he opened his wings for balance.

He set his sights on the mound and it's opening. His clawed feet scrapped at the dirt and ant spittle trying to draw more of them out. After that he moved back to see if it had any affect of the tiny bugs. His blue jay head tilted this way and that as he puzzled out his next move. Carefully he shook any ants from his slick bone marked feathers and opened his wings. He allowed them to drag along with ground trying to heard the insects up the dirt mound, while steering clear of his father's magical spiders.

The spiders swiftly do as they are asked, by each who asks them, the five splitting apart to hasten the tasks they’ve been assigned by the much larger, and more capable, equines. The two males dart away to help Syrena build the web she asks for, while two females quickly set to making the foal’s designs a reality. The last spins sticky strands onto offered sticks, while magic singes and cinnamon stench herds their prey towards the clever traps set by the horses. Within moments, hundreds of the succulent morsels are singed, trapped, or lured, but the prizes are not without their cost.

Syrena, of course, is right. The ants know they are being attacked, and respond as just about any community of soldiers under assault would: with violence. Surging up out of the ant hill in a toiling river of black, shiny anger, the ants march towards the Helovians with vicious intent.

Sweeping past the annoying blue jay kicking at their entryway (many, many others are coming, who can quickly do away with such a small creature), they also ignore the bumbling man with satchels, and his sticky stick, in favor of the smaller horses nearby. The others who have gathered to help the spiders, however, are not so fortunate, and the writhing black mass of ants parting into groups of various sizes, some mere dozens, others hundreds, seeking out each of their victims with hive-mind precision.

The boy who questions the spiders is quickly besieged, the ants taking his stillness for weakness, before the dangling siblings have a chance to answer his simply. Though it might be obvious now, the spiders gesture to the multitudes crawling up the colt’s legs, with wild exclamations, and cheers in favor of the victory of the ant gatherers.

"That’s why!" is the most clear explanation Patrick will get, the siblings quickly bustling up their translucent tethers into the safety of the canopy above, "what chance would we have, hungry and small as we are?"

The unicorn colt is not the only child victim, however, as Zubari, Maude, and Esinakh are among the least fortunate in those who have gathered to save the spiders from starvation. Hundreds of the black devils wash over their small bodies, biting and sending painful toxins coursing through their veins, with more and more soldiers still pouring from the mound, the insects seemingly unbothered by the smell of the cinnamon or wet walls of clay in the midst of the rancor.

Volterra’s arachnid golems seem to have done the trick in steering the ants away for the most part, perhaps part of why so many angle their angry intentions towards the children, rather than the adults. Among a smaller armada, the attacking ants run up the Indominable’s legs, and assault, also, the unusual stallion who’d scooped them up with some peculiar bronze creation in the process.

The crushed ants and honeysuckle serve both Yael and Syrena pretty well, considering the fate of some of those around them. Lured by the decoy smells, some of the warriors teeming towards them are redirected to the flowers and corpses of their fellows. Not so far away, however, nothing stands between the multitudes of ants and Toulouse and Alysanne, who are among those who quickly find themselves besieged by tiny, biting minions.

[ Oh no! The ants are really, really mad, and the spiders have run away!

The ants do not attack Astarot or Dragomir.
A small number of ants attack Patrick, Ru’in, Syrena, Volterra, and Yael.
Large amounts of ants swarm Esinakh, Alysanne, Zubari, Toulouse, and Maude.

Ru'in is unsure now if the point is to defend themselves against the onslaught of ants, or continued to find a way to serve them as dinner to the spiders.

Perhaps it is because of his thick and bulky coat, or maybe his mutant traits have somehow made his skin thicker, but clearly Ru'in is not a recipient of the worst of the ant's attacks. He feels painful pinches against his skin, like needles diving into his flesh, but is for the most part unbothered by the toxins that the ants are known to carry. Perhaps his hair has captured the liquid before it can find its way into the cuts that they are opening.

Trying to set his mind on the task ahead, but still unsure what that task precisely is anymore, Ru'in decides that the best option will be one which potentially solves both problems.

The sieve he has created falls away as his attention to it is forgotten. Instead, Ru'in tries to create 4 sheets of bronze and place them in a square around the ant hill. He means to cut off the ants' ability to leave their home and continuing attack. And, if he's successful in this, perhaps one of the others can think of a way to serve them up to the spiders. Or perhaps Volterra's fire can heat the outside of the bronze and roast the ants who get too close, as he'd originally intended. The walls of the bronze are smooth, and despite the dexterity of the ants, the boy hopes that they will not be able to climb his creations.

Ru'in creates four sheets of bronze and places them around the ant hill. They are smooth and extend to horse-shoulder-height, hopefully preventing any other ants from leaving the ant hill and attacking.

Well, It seemed like a good idea at first. Maude jumped in with him and helped with his little plan to catch the ants, but the little creatures had another idea. Others jumped into the action with helping the spiders, but soon the boy realized why the eight-legged creatures did not want to help. Black bugs swarmed around him and small hooves danced quickly in place. He tried to stomp the wretched beasts from his pelt, but nothing worked. "God damn little bugs!! Get off me!!. His voice rung out in the air watching the large colt near by. He tried to craft something to keep the ants off his pelt, and he also tried to cut off the ant hill. Hopefully, the other boy's plan would work. Bright golden eyes widened as he looked to Maude. "We have to get them off!!!." Words spat from his mouth as he looked to the young girl. Then his gaze fell to the large black stallion. He crafted a bowl like a thing and scooped the ants into it. Smart man was one of the thoughts that slipped through his skull, but Zubari was being eaten alive by the ants right now.

Chocolate legs kept on jumping and moving around the ground. Golden orbs flared as he watched the spiders trickle back into the tree. Oh great, he got burned once again fro trying to help someone. leaping about the boy spotted a small area of water not too far away. "Maude look!!!." Pained tones flooded from his mouth as he went running towards the red gem filled water. Squeals of pain ran from his mouth as he ran as fast as he could towards the water. Just maybe the little bastards would die and drown in the water. He at least wanted the little crawling things off his pelt. Powerful rear legs launched his cat-like body into the air towards the water. Front legs reached out landing in the deep depths of the pool. "Maybe this will wash them off us, it is worth a shot!" He looked to the others being attacked by the ants. Maybe they would follow, maybe they would stay on land. Zubari really did not care he just wanted relief from the burning and biting. "Damn ants... this is what happens when I try to help someone." Bitter, chewed, angry words spat from the young body mouth as he dunked his head under water.
"Talk."

To his birdy horror the ants started charging for the foals! He tried his best to think of his horse form and to his surprise it worked! Pain filled his body and he found himself unable to move. Just as panic started he was released, while he had been frozen one of the foals had run to the water. He nodded as he called to another foal to join him! "Apa! Send your golems to other people, the ants are scared of them!" He called desperately to his father before running to help the boy from the Throat. "Patrick, right?" He spoke as he tried to use his tail and sweep it over the colt, trying to knock the ants from him. "If they get to bad go join the other foals in the water, that should wash them off!"

Content the foal would be okay he flashed him a smile and rushed back to the ant hill. He saw the bronze sheets spring up around the hill. He nodded then turned and grabbed a stick then rushed to one of his father's fire golems. "You are my father's creation and I demand you hold still for a moment." His voice was muffled, but commanding as he tried to gently stick the stick to the creation. If it caught fire his plan was to throw it into the closed off ant hill.

Zubari seems happy to have her help, which Maude is very glad for, mostly because, sometimes, she feels like Katua’s brother doesn’t like her, or that she gets on his nerves. Though she’s not sure why (it surely couldn’t be her cheerfulness, could it?!), she tries her best to be kind to him whenever they meet, hoping that, over time, whatever slight she has committed against him will be forgiven.

She’d just apologize, if she only knew what to say sorry for! For now, however, she’s more than happy to help him push dirt up under the webs the spiders have made on his behest, and to cheerfully enjoy the afternoon doing something meaningful. Humming about the task as she does it, pondering a few verses and actively working on the chorus, her ginger legs and nose are soon dusty with dirt, and it’s not long before she’s thinking about a bath, as much as she is helping seal up the gaps in the webs.

It’s just then, however, that the first team of ants rushes up her leg.

Hey! Whoa!!” she shrilly exclaims, shaking her leg violently. Though some of the ants tumble off, they swiftly rejoin the march of the rest still coming, and those who hadn’t fallen away quickly sweep up over her back, and down under her belly; they bite down into her skin, and tickle through her fur. “Owie! Ow! Oww-ow-ow!

The bites burn and itch, like tongues of fire with feather ticklers. Radiating about each clamped, horrible little ant is a circumference of pain that soon swallows up the easily denoted “ows” for indecipherable yowls and screams of pain. She can barely hear Zubari over the wails of her suffering, and that of the others, and when she looks for him, he’s almost invisible through her tears, running off somewhere. Trying her best to run after him, but not a warrior, like he is, she painfully limbs and scurries, shuffles and stumbles, out towards the pool of water Zubi has found.

Rolling into it at the brim, Maude simply lets her shoulders fall down towards the gracious water, her hindquarters tumbling topsy turvy for a horrible moment, before she splashes down into the pool. Her flailing begins almost immediately, the sudden rush of the water over her head, and the rough press of the ruby lined pool against her body not doing much to ease the terror already flooding her little mind. Though she rights herself, her heart doesn’t stop thundering, and her piteous moans resume almost immediately, because, even if the ants are gone, the pain isn’t.

[ OOC: Slowly follows Zubari into the water to try and get the attacking ants off. ]

For more than a few seconds, all Dragomir can do is gawp in horror at what is happening to those around him. With screams and wails, his friend, Alysanne, and the others who have arrived, in particular, a number of children, are seemingly encrusted with ants in a matter of moments. Even more peculiar is that it does not happen to him, the stallion managing to somewhat sober himself from the shock, with this very thought; he should help!

Shaking his head, and quickly reaching into his pouches, he procures a stone, and without concern for what sort of metal it is (assuming it to be iron, from the pouch he’d pulled it from), he begins roughly driving his hoof into the earth. Dropping the rock in the newly made divot, and adding another two for good measure, the metalsmith covers the special stones in the newly shifted earth, and presses his hoof down on top of it, struggling at first to clear his mind enough to utilize his magic. After taking a deep breath, he clenches his eyes shut, and imagines a bucket, with a handle.

The object which he grows is a bucket, but a shitty one. It will suffice, however lumpy and misshapen, however, and he swiftly breaks it away from its metallic stem, and charges with ungainly strides and side-slapping bag action towards Esinakh. Scooping a good amount of her clay into his bucket, he sets it aside, and pulls more up from the ground, saving what he has bucketed for later. He attempts to smear the clay across her skin, urging her to help in the process with gestures (as his mouth is currently coated in mud, he’s not about to try talking).

[ OOC: Dragomir makes a bucket, and fills it with Esinakh’s clay. He then begins to try and smear the remaining clay on Esinakh, to help protect her, and hopefully smother out the ants. ]

It was as if these wretched spiders and ants were trying their damndest to make his trip one to regret. As the ants marched towards the others gathered, Toulouse could only watch with amusement - this was of course until he felt them scatter up his own legs.
"AGH!" was the serpent's hiss, stumbling back into the branches of a fir.

The bites were felt among the scratches of the fir branches and soon his front pair of legs became a searing hot mess. He must get these things off, and he must get them off now.
At first, he considered an attempt at using his newly-found power upon them; a magic which once cast through initial eye contact would cause immeasurable pain. There were too many for that, though.

Racing along a line of firs and their outstretched limbs, Toulouse used their brush-like arms to hopefully scratch away the swarm.  What a joke this was. His teeth barred and brows deeply furrowed, the gelding grinding each limb along a new branch in a desperate attempt to remove these unwelcome guests upon his hide.
