Aiya Anor, Elenion Ancalima!

Live birdsong had accompanied the ginger stag's every foot fall to the Blood Falls, though the chirps and wingbeats of birds were not the only music on the air.
The wondrous cooing that seemed to constantly fall from his daughter's lips followed his own humming, resulting in a kind and agreeable chorus that would please any lucky enough to witness it. It was these moments that Tilney most treasured - the times he spent on adventures with the one's he loved deeply, the ones who returned that love and expected nought in return.

Peatree, who by now had accumulated most of his wingspan flew far ahead, sometimes prefering to disapear into the clouds in pursuit of songbirds to chase, for Tilney and Maude travelled far too slow for the swooping and gliding megabat.
Occasionally the chiroptera would land upon Tilneys antlers or even attempt to nestle upon the tines that grew from Maudes own skull, but usually found them far too short to balance on.

The red trees began far before any hint of a waterfall made itself known, and before long they stepped through a world of red. When the rush and push of water was heard among the sussurrus and general psithurism of the canopy, tilney knew they were close.
"This way my love" He uttered to his smaller companion, one who it seemed was not so small any more.
She was nearing one year old, her head bobbing now at the height of his wither.

clambering over an embankment and stepping up upon a rock Tilney beheld the Blood Falls, majestic as it was quiet. No one ever ventured here, or so it seemed.
With a green glance back to Maude, a smile springing fomr his lips the gentleman stepped form the boulder on which he stood and paced towards the water's edge, dipping his nose in to taste the red water.

The wild red wood in which she and Katua had met a demon is the surprise locale to which she has been brought on this excursion from the Edge. Hopeful that this time, the adventure will be purely positive, unlike the last, which had been a simple ruse to tell her his dark secrets where others couldn’t overhear, the filly cheerfully follows alongside her father, humming and singing songs about the flowers, which had returned to Helovia with the spring.

Daisy, lily, pansy, rose,
all the pretty flowers grow!
The spring has come to shine,
warm, bright, and divine!

The Earth’s season, abloom,
disperses winter’s gloom,
and each tree limb renews
green leaves, damp with dew.

Ivy, primrose, magnolia, mum,
fed by cool rains which come
on windy Birdsong breeze,
and snow, melted with ease!

Traipsing through a puddle after her father with a giggle which denotes the end of her song, she eyes his decision to drink from the red water with some measure of uncertainty. What made it red? She wonders, stepping closer to the edge of the waterfall’s collected pool, her eyes broad with curiosity, and her steps high, and slow. Smelling the water before she drinks, she exhales and watches the ripples disperse the all together normal smelling water, before she drinks some herself.

It’s still cold from the chilly realms from which the Falls are fed, but very crisp, and clean. Used to the earthy flavor of the Edge’s rivers, the spring fed pool she sups from is delightfully flavorless, with a peculiarly pleasant aftertaste. Sighing contentedly, she drinks until she is full, before curiously splashing deeper into the water, her eyes still too busy watching the pretty, crimson foliage overhead to notice the rubies at her hooves.

It’s pretty here, daddy!” she calls over to him, pivoting around in the shallows, and looking at the waterfall, and trees, “why are all the plants red, though?

The flaxen father happily hummed along to Maude's tune, his heart warm and full from the company and radiance little Maude provided. How such a small thing, one with so much to learn and so many mistakes to make could create such a feeling was beyond him, though, it was something he daren't think about. What those mistakes would be frightened him deeply still, and the fact that she neared her first birthday was just as fearsome to his as was exciting.

Her chirps filled the air once again as he waded into the red water though steering clear of any drop-offs or great depths. The water tread as far as his knees at most, and that was as far in as he would go.
"It is pretty" He agreed, his contrasting eyes fixing around the abnormal area. "Though, I am not sure why it is all red. Perhaps it's just the leaves above?"
Quizzically he observed the canopy and how the little light he could see outside remained blue and pure, yet any touched by the vibrant leaves were filtered through as red.

Pea fluttered up and out of vision, skipping between the sanguine reaches of the canopy and into the refreshing air above. 'sky!' was chirped between their bond. 'blue!'.
Turning to face Maude, wading his hooves through the water and stopping a small number of yards from her Tilney spoke again. "Are you excited for your birthday?" He asked her, a grand smile lighting up his face. Perhaps he also wished to ask her if she was excited to meet her brothers; he had met Byron and he wished to tell her all about him. Little did he know that she had also had the pleasure.
Jude was a great mystery still. It caused a drastic worry to arise within tilney's tender heart whenever his thoughts drifted to him.

That her father does not know why the forest is red does not particularly bother her. Though, as a small child, she might have kept inquiring as to why, the growing doe has slowly come to understand that there are many things that no one knows, and that, also, it was somewhat rude to expect others to know all the answers to wished to hear. Sometimes, Maude had woefully begun to accept, you simply had to carry on not knowing.

Maybe it would make finally finding out why that much better… she consoles herself. Besides, why did it matter? It was just regular water, and it was pretty, and serene, and it wasn’t as if the purpose of its coloration would change those facts.

The child does not think of blood when she gazed into the depths of the rippling pool, like many who had seen suffering might; instead, she sees the rubies, sparkling in the sun which pierces from above, and the shimmering dance of those golden beams moving through the waterfall fed waters. Trailing her legs through it, enjoying the sensation of it ebbing and rippling about her ankles, the doll looks up towards her father with a smile that creases lines into her ginger muzzle when he asks her if she was excited about her birthday.

Oh, yes!” she exclaims, just sure that it would be the best day ever, even though she had never had a birthday before (that she really remembered, anyway), “what are birthdays even like?

Her excitement only caused his smile to grow, his pale hooves skimming the water's surface in yonderly contemplation. Her quabbling questions were so juvenile, so simple, the definition of purity. Maude was so unspoilt; how long would it last? There were only a small number of women he'd ever met who'd managed to maintain such a purity into adulthood, and while it was a quality that he certainly had never seen in Arah or himself, it was one he would always associate with dear Maude. Who would be the one to corrupt her? Who would shatter pureness itself?
Swirling mind full of other's thoughts as usual, Tilney shook the sadness from his melancholy head. Maude had asked a question, and he had left her waiting for an answer for what had perhaps seemed like an eternity to her year old self.

"Birthdays? Oh they can be exciting for some, sad for others" He spoke; always truthfully. "My birthday won't be very exciting. I'll be seven times the age of you, and that makes me feel old" He snorted, an airy chuckle exploding through his nares.

Peatree had caught sight of a school of fish closer to the actual waterfall, and with a vibrant squeak had attempted to shoot into the water to fish one out. Squinting, Tilney paused in his step as he questioned his bonded's actions. 'Fruit bats dont eat fish...'.
Regardless, the soaked bat emerged from the water's surface as buoyant as a leaf. There was naught he could do to escape the water now, so as he srifted downstream in the calm waters, Tilney reached in with his crown and allowed the chiropeta to clamber aboard.

Maude does not notice her father’s somberness, her spring eyes wide with wonder, pale tresses swaying happily behind her in slow, easy arcs as she looks around. She occasionally bursts forth two or three paces in a canter, giggling at the sensation of the water splashing against her belly, and the sight of the pure, crystalline water rising into miniature peaks over the glimmer of the rubies below. Otherwise, her eyes are above, on the crimson canopy, and how the wind gently sways the branches, revealing sparkling glimmers of golden sunlight, that pierce white and silver ripples all through the pool, or they rove to the falls, themselves.

Might, is what she sees, and natural grace; how all things came to where they were meant to be, as they were meant to be, however, will come to her much later in life, when the lessons her father fears so much for her tender heart to trespass upon have left their necessary scars. Like a tree, she could only be a tender, green sprout for so long. At some point, the supple sapling must grow bark and become wood, or it would collapse under the weight of itself, in time.

So to, must Maude – but not today, or tomorrow.

But…

In its own time, as all things come.

Her laughter trills at the sight of Peatree chasing the fish, her gaze following his playfully drifting body all the way back to her father, that precious innocence flooding her entire being as she bouncily makes her way towards them, to nuzzle her muzzle into the familiar strands of his cream mane.

"You’re not old, daddy," she promises him, stepping back to smile up at his handsome, cherished face with all the love she can muster, "you’re just… uh, father age! That’s all. It would be weird if you were a kid too, I think."

Maude
How should we like it if the stars were to burn
With a passion for us we could not return?
If equal affection cannot be,
let the more loving one be me.
