A long sigh passed through the blue jay’s lips. Birdsong brought warmth, a warmth that he previously would’ve been used to if he were back home in Korofi. But he was living in Helovia now, in the land of the sands. And while the heat here was similar to home, when Birdsong hit, it was different. So he left the island in search of something to distract him, to keep his mind away from where his sister’s whereabouts might be. He hadn’t seen his sister in a season almost, and it worried him. Not only did she leave his side to live with his enemy, it was also in a land ran by Dorobian’s. The kind that hated his kind. It only made sense his mind went to the worse possible ideas.

Yet he tried to push those thoughts away as he trudged on, finding himself in the Thistle Meadow. The grasses sprouted beneath his navy hooves, as he tucked his wings in tight against his sides, squinting against the reflection of the light against the metal that sat upon his tri-toned wing. Sweat beaded and dampened his skin, and so Sunjata decided he needed water. He headed toward the sound of the river, before pausing just before the bank to look down upon his half pale, half dark face, seeing the bright piercing color of his icy blue gaze before he lost his footing and slipped into the water.

OOF.” He grumbled as he splashed into the water, entirely graceless. His head lifted from the water as he glanced around, unsure and hoping nobody had seen his fall, despite the evidence lying in the mud beside the bank. He figured he’d at least play it cool, and stretched his wings to let the water run over his back and through his feathers, all while his heart beat rapidly.

For a moment, Alysanne and Hemlock enjoyed a peaceful Birdsong day - the small owl was hunting insects that were buzzing around the long grasses and weeds - and Alysanne was taking a small moment to stand in the sunshine, letting the gentle rays warm her as she tried to ease out of the tension that was causing her stomach and mind to coil.

It wasn’t working.

Frustrated, she opened her eyes just in time to see something new. Alysanne hadn’t seen the fall exactly, but the flash of white and blue in the sunlight had certainly drawn her attention - and she moved forward to investigate. Her legs on the ground always travelling with a grace and ease that she had not yet discovered in the air. Her green eyes were already soft with a smile once she realized that the pegasus in the river wasn’t thrashing about because of pain or injury - but seemed to be enjoying the feel of the water along his wings and back.

She couldn’t remember the last time she had seen such a brilliantly coloured pegasus - almost everyone in Helovia was a black, white, or a shade of brown with a few colours mixed in. She admired the incredible hues as she approached, but quickly had her eyes travel to his - lest she be caught staring - and a warm smile shone there when she came to stand on the muddy banks of the river.

With ease, she ignored the tracks that suggested he had fallen instead of purposefully ended up in his current position. It wasn’t her way to attempt to embarrass anyone, especially not a stranger.

When she spoke, her tone was light and friendly, filled with a gentle amusement. “Enjoying yourself? I would have thought the water was still a little too cool for a bath…”

While his heart stilled, he lowered his body further into the water until just the bridge of his nose, nostrils, and eyes poked out of the river as some makeshift crocodile. Content for the moment, silently thankful that nobody had seen his unfitting body slip into the water. It was only when he heard a feminine voice pop up did he lift his white head from the water and whip it toward her direction, just about ready to say some terrible things to her for interrupting his “bath”. But when he laid eyes on her, and noticed she was a pegasus like himself with no horns to speak of, he calmed.

His eyes grew softer and a chuckle escaped his dark maw as he shook his head, sending droplets of water spraying out across the surface of the river that surrounded him. The water was cold, but he wouldn’t admit that to her. No, he’d simply tell her he was a man that could handle a little bit of a chill, and hope she didn’t press the matter. But instead of replying right away, he found his footing among the river rocks and hauled his heaping wet body out and back onto dry land. He spread his wings, offering her a charming grin and dipping his head in a graceful bow. “I didn’t think anyone would notice. It’s not too cold, by the way. I needed a quick back to get the sand off the legs.” He lifted his head then to her, offering another roguish smile with a playful wink. His voice was laced with a foreign accent, one similar to Tembovu’s yet off. If anything, it was more like Graasvoel’s, a feat of which the blue jay hated.

I am Sunjata, of the Dragon’s Throat. Who are you?” He questioned curiously, tilting his dripping wet head to get a better look at her. His mohawk stuck up in random places, while his wings remained outstretched to drip dry. He couldn’t help but to notice as he looked at her, the beautiful green eyes that graced her face, and the way her wings looked perfect and pristine – unlike his, wet and stuck together and out in random places, some parts of them broken off in flight. To him, he thought he looked homeless. To others, perhaps he held the warrior type. And since he hadn’t had any contact with a full pegasi woman in this manner, he hoped she’d find him at least somewhat charming.

It was always a pleasant surprise to be greeted with anything other than hostility. Alysanne had grown to expect, in some small way, that anyone she met would have their guard raised towards her now. Conversation with strangers had once come so easily, without even a hint of effort, and she was getting back to that now - slowly. When he stood, she took a small step back out of instinct even though she really hadn’t been that close in the first place - just to make sure that he had enough room.

He spread his wings and with a charming grin performed an equally charming bow. She was smiling brighter herself in response, his accent familiar but still unique enough that she could not place it immediately.

She wasn’t about to test his claim that the water wasn’t too cold herself but merely laughed in delight at his playful wink. Sunjata introduced himself, stating that he was from the Dragon’s Throat. Well, she seemed to be meeting a lot of their members lately!

“I’m Alysanne, from the World’s Edge.” There was something endearing about the way his feathers and short mane stuck out in all directions - she wondered if it had simply been from how he had been bathing or if he always looked bedraggled. Did she look like that after she emerged from one of the ponds in the Edge? If she did, she doubted she would sport the look with a cool ease the way Sunjata did.

But what she lacked in messy charm, she had in grace. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Sunjata.” Now, she stretched her foreleg out and bowed - unfurling her wings in a fashion akin to the gesture he had performed for her only moments ago. Her green eyes shone with delight as her head dipped, not leaving his face, and even more so when she straightened back up.

I’m Alysanne, from the World’s Edge.” He listened quietly as she spoke, his pale ears perked to her despite the water that threatened to drip down into his ear drums. They began to flick slightly, trying his best to remain stoic in front of this painted mare. She said it was a pleasure to meet him, and Sunjata couldn’t agree more (of course being the narcissistic Pegasus he was.) Then, she bowed in a more graceful fashion than Sunjata could ever accomplish with his bulk and not being able to coordinate his actions as fluidly. A small chuckle escaped him his lips as he began to leave the water, approaching her ever so slightly but still allowing her space enough to step away if she so wished.

Last I heard, my sister lived in the Edge. That was many seasons ago, however. I doubt she’s still there.” He admitted, a frown placing it’s way to his ebony lips. His eyes scanned the earth in front of him before trailing to Alysanne with a hopeful gleam. “If you see her, could you tell her that I worry for her?” He questioned, doing his best to try and seem as though he was a kind hearted, pleasant stallion. Instead of being the bitter, disapproving man beneath the colorful plumes.

His frown began to fade the longer their interactions became, and he began to shake out the rest of the water on his coat, unsure if the droplets would land on Alysanne, though the man beneath him hoped they did, just for fun. “Anyway, what brings you out here?” He questioned as nonchalant as he could manage, his rough accent still chopping through on his phrases, pausing in sporadic spots to figure out what word fit what he was looking for.

Her bow was rewarded with a small chuckle, which meant it was a success, and a closing of the gap between them. She remained where she was, curious and delighted at her chance encounter with the blue pegasus. He went on to explain that he had a sister that lived in the World’s Edge and immediately, Alysanne was searching through her mind trying to figure out if his face reminded her of anyone.

Nothing rang a bell, unfortunately, and her heart ached for him. The separation between siblings was one that she knew well - it had never been easy to be here in Helovia knowing Iona lived somewhere else. And the feeling of her reunion with her sister? That was something she wished very much for everyone, including Sunjata. Her response was earnest when she replied, a small smile in her gaze hoping to coax some cheer out of him. “Of course I will. What’s your sister’s name?”

As their conversations moved to lighter things, Sunjata shook out some water on his coat and Alysanne laughed brightly when a few droplets. Shivering slightly as a few landed on her cheek - and mentally noting that the water was indeed cold but not remarking on it out loud - she shook her head to shake the droplets off, catching his next question as she did so. “Oh you know, the usual. I just walk around trying to catch a dashing stallion in the bath.” She grinned brightly, punctuating her sentence with a quick, playful wink. Her tone turned thoughtful, lightly teasing on the edges. “You’re the third one I’ve come across today, you know.”

While his curiosities of the location of his sister remained in his mind, it wasn’t as if he was active in searching for her. If she wanted to spend the rest of her days with that stupid Graasvoel, he’d let her; so long as she learned her mistake at the end of her rendezvous. Still, he put on the show for Alysanne as he nodded solemnly to her question with a small smile of thanks. “Her name is Saartjie, though she may just be going by Saar.” He noted, before offering her a softer, kinder smile. “Thank you for looking for her.” He wanted to be sure he thanked the Pegasus before the conversation shifted.

And just as expected, it moved to lighter, humorous things. His icy gaze lingered on the black and white painted mare as a few drops from him landed on her pelt and she shivered. “Oh you know, the usual. I just walk around trying to catch a dashing stallion in the bath.” A chuckle rippled from his throat as Alysanne grinned and winked at him. He wanted to comment on how she had been successful, but she followed it up with a tease. A brow lifted quizzically before another chuckle left his lips.

It’s not every day that I come across a beautiful woman with a sense of humor.” He noted, flashing her another wink while hoping deep down the words she said were a joke. His wings folded gently to his sides as the water began to dry against his pelt, illuminating it with varying hues of blues. “Though I do have to say you are quite beautiful, Miss Alysanne.” He added in with a roguish grin, his words dripping with the Korofi accent as they left his dark lips. “And I’m sure it wouldn’t be too difficult for you to find dashing stallions that would do anything for you.

Alysanne filed away the name of Sunjata’s sister in her mind for further reference - so that she could keep an ear out for her. Considering Sunjata’s bright colouring, she suspected that Saartjie might have some similar distinctive colouring. It was wonderful to meet someone that cared so much for their sibling - much the same way that she cared for Iona. She’d certainly be asking someone to keep an eye out for her sister if they ever got separated here in Helovia.

His chuckle was a delightful reward for her teasing, warming and deepening Alysanne’s smile. She ducked her head at his compliment, though - a little embarrassed at how easily his words and that roguish grin had made her blush.

Sunjata’s next words brought her attention back up to him, her green eyes rolling gracefully at the comment about how it wouldn’t be too difficult to find dashing stallions. She really didn’t find it that easy - but he didn’t need to know that. “Oh, sure, but it’s finding the right dashing stallion.” She quipped back, still with an easy smile. “Not as in Mr. Right, of course, but as in…” She trailed off, trying to think of the best way to phrase what was in her head in a manner that wasn’t too blunt. Or maybe blunt was okay - Sunjata didn’t seem to have any problem speaking his mind, even if he was just being a smooth talker. Why should she shy away from the responses that came so naturally. So with a crooked grin she continued her explanation. “Well, most men are willing to do anything - but it’s the rare ones that can do it well.” She tilted her head then, as though it was a question - as though curious about which category he might fall into.

And, of course, she was quite curious indeed.

To the blue jay’s delight, Alysanne continues with the playful jest. Her green eyes rolling at his comment, causing another small chuckle to escape his dark navy lips. “Oh sure, but it’s finding the right dashing stallion.” Immediately, his pale ears perked with curiosity, his eyes gleaming with a hint of excitement deep beneath the icy blues. Then, she began to trail off and he stepped gingerly closer to her, his pelt beginning to dry in patchy places as he pulled his wings closer to his body, his head tilting as he listened to her.

Then, she offered a crooked grin and continued. This set of information caused Sunjata to chuckle once again. Then, he winked to her, lifting his head high and puffing his chest out, lifting one hoof off the ground and curling it beneath his chest in a regal pose. “Do you seek a man like this?” He questioned, in the most regal tone the accented man could do. Then, he placed his hoof back upon the ground, stepping ever so slightly closer to her to where the electric blue tips of his wings extended in the attempts to graze by her chest and shoulder as he offered a lopsided grin.

Or a man like this?” He cooed, his voice taking on a darker, huskier sound still thickly coated in accent. Was she the type of woman to appreciate a regal, honest man? Or someone that found allure with the bad boys? Sunjata began to make it his goal to find out. “Both can do it right, however, one can make it infinitely more fun, lief” He almost purred, his eyes glinting mischievously.

Sunjata continued their game and Alysanne chuckled with delight, a soft and faint noise as she watched him puff out his chest and pose as a regal stallion - playing it up even more by changing the tone of his voice. He sounded like some sort of exotic prince, which was certainly enticing, but then he moved closer to her again - and Alysanne didn’t dare move.

When the soft feathers of Sunjata’s wings grazed along her chest and shoulder, a shiver coursed through Alysanne - unbidden but utterly pleasant. Her green eyes were bright, focused entirely on his face as he continued to speak, cooing more words but in a different tone - huskier, darker. Although both the men he paraded for her were attractive in his accent, the second grabbed her attention more. Alysanne might actively seek out the more regal, honest men but when it came down to her choices her subconscious always chose danger.

The mischievous glint in his eye encouraged an answer from her and she was certainly willing to provide one. “I think…” Her gently voice ttrailed off quietly, pretending to think - a fire lighting in her eyes as she moved towards him - taking a small step forward as her dark muzzle reached out to brush against his skin and whisper an invitation against it. “I could more fun in my life.”

Her chuckle was one that caused delight to spread across Sunjata’s body. His feathers ruffled slightly, despite the fact he was still rather drenched. As he did his show for her, he couldn’t help but to begin to admire the simplicity of this mare. The fact she was sassy and enjoyable enough to be around. And the more he began to show off to her, the more he began to crave her. The man had been lacking when it came to pleasantries with women, having not gotten laid since before his escape from Korofi many seasons ago, and the more he tried to show off and joke with Alysanne, the more he began to feel that familiar urge.

Her voice distracted him as his hooded eyes, glanced up to her as she thought. Then, she began to move toward him, his feathers ruffling as she reached her dark muzzle to his navy skin. Her whisper and smooth touch caused a pleasant shiver to dance down his spine, a grin growing against his darkened muzzle. Lifting his head slightly, he pulled his wings in closer, still aiming to brush Alysanne ever so slightly. He moved his muzzle up to her shoulder, where her wing met her body as he aimed to lip the small feathers that bunched there.

Should she allow him to, he was more than willing to show her that fun that he suggested. But, he was also a gentleman. He’d wait for the okay before any kind of continuation. Before, back in Korofi, it hadn’t been hard for him. Being a prince and all, had its benefits. Here, however, things were more difficult, and he had begun to find out that he could get what he wanted if he played the part. His head moved from her body then, as he leaned into her touch slightly, his tail flicking against his legs as the urge grew stronger and the smirk grew wider on his lips. “I like that choice.” He hummed, his thick accent coating his words. “It’s not every day you find someone that enjoys the same things you do.” He cooed, his smirk glinting mischievously as he moved along her side toward her rump, aiming to run his chin along her spine.

His touch on her skin had the dual action of both relaxing Alysanne and causing her to tense. She delighted in the gentle way his feathers brushed against her, at how his muzzle moved and he lipped gently at the feathers of her wing joint. Despite the scars that were present there, it was still a sensitive spot and her green eyes closed with pleasure at the feel.

They flashed open a moment later when he moved - when his cooing words reached her ear and a smirk grew on her features. She flicked her tail as he moved back - hoping to catch him at least a little bit with those soft strands as she turned to look back at him. “It’s a tragedy, really.” She responded, playfully commenting how how it was a shame how rare it was to find someone that enjoyed the same things. It was a shame and Alysanne was filled with delight and hope that this run in might be the start of something new. Not a relationship or anything near as serious - but a time in her life not quite so lonely. Perhaps, should everything go well, they should make it a habit.

She certainly wouldn’t mind.

Her breath was quickening, eyes focused on him - on nothing else. There was no one else around, no one that mattered. She didn’t mind that they were standing in a meadow, unobscured by view.

All she could think of was his chin running along her spine, moving back.

“We should take advantage of it while we can.” Her gentle voice was little more than a whisper, shifting her wings so that her back was more exposed - trying her very best to not sound desperate. It had just been a very long time since she had exercised her right to enjoy this particular thing.
