It was under the cover of darkness, with only the moon to light her path that the filly slipped back across Helovia's border and into the Threshold. She had slipped away a season ago, sneaking along behind her mother. It wasn't until they had reached Dorobo that she finally made it known to her mother that she'd followed. A very thorough scolding had followed, which Tutti figured she deserved, especially since her mother had told her to stay in the Edge with Zubi, Rexanna, and Poppy. After several days of resting Ada had escorted her back to Helovia and watched her as she crossed over the border.

Tutti looked back, hoping to see that her mother had followed her across and was coming back home, but she'd already disappeared into the darkness. The filly snorted and set off at a trot, but her curious nature had her investigating rather than trying to make her way back home to the Edge. There were trees and shrubs and so many different scents that cris-crossed so many different directions that she didn't know what she wanted to look at or investigate first. Her ears rotated atop her head and, finally, she decided to explore a set of peculiar shrubs.

It was among the shrubs that she found an egg that already had cracks running along the fragile surface. How peculiar! Her head lifted and she glanced around, wondering what kind of bird would lay an egg so large. The egg suddenly rocked as whatever giant bird was inside of it struggled against the shell. The sudden movement startled the filly and she skittered back several steps, then felt foolish as part of the shell fell away.

She inched back closer, her head low and her eyes wide as she watched and waited. "Come on." She whispered, trying to encourage the bird inside of the egg to finish hatching. More of the shell fell away and it rocked har enough that it rolled. The top of the shell broke away and a tiny .... creature tumbled out onto the ground. Tutti's head tilted as she looked at it, confusion obvious on her face. It definitely wasn't a bird. "What a strange looking efelant."

She was gone. Zubari assumed the worse had happened to her, but he would never stop looking. He went through the wilds, searching for her, calling her name, he would never give up. His heart raced as the toned boy galloped towards the threshold. Growing hooves thundered and roared against the ground as he grew closer and closer. Tall golden horns toward above his skull. Maybe today was the day that he would find her, Tutti had to be alive. Nostrils flared as he came to a halt finally on the edge of the Threshold. Maybe she just went for an adventure. She will be back; Tutti would never leave him like that. Shaking his head softly, Zubari tried to disband the thoughts that she intentionally left him. She couldn't do that; he knew that is twin loved him too much... right? The boy slowly moved through the threshold carefully looking searching for a glimmer of hope.

Quietly small blacked hooves crept through the trees and brush that filled the dense surroundings. Then his attention snapped away from the world in front of him. H heard rustling and movement somewhere ahead of him. Chocolate ears stood alert listening to what beast might be lurking in the depths of the threshold. A sigh fell from his mouth as the rustling creature fell silent once again. Then a voice rang in the air, feminine, sweet, surprised, and familier. No, It couldn't be.... the person he has been searching for. The one he loved and cared about more than anything else in the world. His heart raced and roared in his chest, lungs expanded and contracted slowly with breaths of excitement. Bright golden eyes widened, and pupils grew large like a cat's eyes would. "Tutti!!!! Where are you!?." His vocals roared and ripped through the lands as he cantered off into the brush. Listening he waited for a response; then bright eyes grew damp with tears.

She was alive

She was perfect in every way, shape and form. Her body wrapped in a golden bodice has grown so much while she was gone. Horns started to tower above her own skull just like his. Katua was just as beautiful and perfect as ever. Deepblue pools looked intensely at a small egg on the ground. Moving slowly towards his twin he had to say her name, Zubari had to let the reality settle in"Katua is that you?" His deepening voice softly spoke to the girl as he grew closer and closer. Finally, after all, these months his chocolate chest pushed into her shoulder, and his neck attempted to pull her close to him. He wanted to feel her heart beat, smell her scent, rub against her soft coat, and just know she was okay. "I missed you !! Tutti where did you go!? I thought you ran away forever. I even thought at one point you were dead, but you ALIVE!" His voice filled with the rare feeling of joy, happiness, and love.

Zubari was so caught up in the moment that he did not even realize that there was a small bald creature roaming around. Golden eyes flicked to the newly hatched egg, and his great golden skull tilted "What is that?." Wrinkling his nose, Zubari attempted to sniff the thing before something else caught his attention. "Look there are another one of those egg things." Moving only a few feet away from his sister golden eyes gazed down at the crackling shell. Bright orbs kept on looking back at Kauta to make sure she was still there. Then a cracking sound filled the air. Deep brown fuzz stirred around, and then golden eyes peered back at the colt. "Look this one is not bald !!." He chuckled brightly lowering his nose closer until... SNAP! Sharp teeth latched upon his velvet muzzle causing the boy to launch backward towards his sister. "What the fuck was that!?."

With a small length of rope neatly wrapped around her ankle, Maude sets out into the world, eager to go on her first gathering adventure ever, that wasn’t limited to the gardens, or the Edge itself. Humming as she trots, the cheerful girl makes good time across the well travelled paths between her home, and the Threshold, her pale green eyes eagerly examining all of the new sights she passes along the way.

Though there had been farther away destinations that the grown-ups had suggested she could go gather herbs from, Maude had wanted to go to the Threshold most of all. Having heard of the giant trees from her friends and family, the filly was very keen on getting to see them for herself. Besides, maybe someone she knew would be there, or she could bring someone home to the Edge! How proud of her would everyone be, then?

Gasping in awe at the magnanimous trees as she wends through the trails, the ginger kissed maiden feels her heart soar with the beauty of the forest around her. What amazing trees! She thinks to herself, dancing beneath the lordly crowns of the proud woodland, her ears filled with the song of spring birds, and chirruping squirrels.

Spying the white tail-tip of a fox, she bounds after it with a giggle; leaping after the fleeing creature, she barely hears the sound of Katua’s voice, but certainly does! Sliding and almost hitting a white oak (the very tree she was supposed to be collecting bark from), the girl’s ears dance with the wild sway of her legs, as she pivots in search of her friend, whom she hasn’t seen in so long.

"Tuuuuuuuttiiiiiii!" shrilly greets Maude, galloping to greet her; the cremello child is happy to see Zubari, too (what are they looking at? she ponders, as she rushes in like free flying rocket), but not like she is to see Katua. With a squeal of girlish, over eager delight, she ploughs towards her friend, hoping to snuggle her, while rearing and spinning all at the same time. Bumping her with her muzzle, and laughing with delighted tears in her eyes, the girl ponders chiding her friend for leaving without saying goodbye, but instead, dwells in the joy of reuniting with her, instead. "I have missed you so much!"

Only when this initial, ridiculously flamboyant greeting has calmed down does the child notice the very weird hatchlings, her eyes widening, and her nose lowering to inspect them, too.

"Yours is awfully fat, but in a cute way, Katua," she giggles, gasping, and taking several wary steps away from the adorable, black fur-ball, when Zubari’s new friend leaps out and bites him, "oh no! Zubari! Are you okay?"

Ask no questions, and you'll be told no lies
She has no idea why she’s back in the Threshold already, other than she was bored and therefore, why not? It’s night, but Weaver never has been one for sleeping much, so she slips into the still unfamiliar forest with absolutely no plan in mind except to see if any other night owls were lingering around. The God of the Spark had made it clear he was disappointed in the Basin, which basically just screamed opportunity to Weaver. Because she was new, and how could he blame her for failing a herd she’d only just joined. What she could do was prove her worth.

So here she is, wandering through trees and trying to make sure she doesn’t get herself lost. The trees aren’t particularly dense at least, so she’s unlikely to lose track of the sky and therefore, her way to orient herself. “You will be so much more useful when you can fly,” she grumbles at Raven. Normally she doesn’t concern herself with getting lost because Old Raven could fly and just tell her where to go. New Raven is too damn small to be of use, and currently he’s half asleep in her horns and just being annoyed that she’s moving about so roughly. Which of course she is doing entirely on purpose

She doesn’t have to look hard. The shrill, overexcited yelling of children catches her attention, making quite the ruckus. So she follows the sound until three children come into view. Two girls she doesn’t know, a boy she remembers from her brief cleaning escapades. And a few weird animals running around. What even is this? she thinks. Though Raven doesn’t understand her thoughts, he can feel her emotions well enough and responds with his own level of uncertain curiosity and disinterest. If nothing else, it’s clear they’ve woken him up.

She makes her way over to the trio of children that really probably shouldn’t be hanging out by themselves in a forest in the middle of the night. Who knows what manner of monsters they might meet (herself included, though she has no foul intentions right now). “What are you all doing?” she asks, cutting into the clutter of their voices loudly enough to be heard. “You’re going to wake the dead.”

Tembovu the Elephant King
The Elephant King felt remiss about his time (or lack thereof) spent with his middle son—especially after following him to the shore. Zubari, already fraught with dark tendencies, was so alone; Ada, Katua: they both had disappeared like the cheetah their hides were patterned after.

So he had (yet again) followed his dark, spotted son out of the Edge. The mahogany colt travelled further and further east—so far that the stallion was about to halt him for fear that he may be leaving Helovia. But then, “Katua is that you?”

Large, ivory hooves abruptly halt in the Threshold’s thick carpet. Far away, back in the Edge, Mbwene tooted in surprise at the strength of emotion that suddenly flowed through their bond. So great was the Elephant’s shock, relief, and joy that his bright, bubbly daughter had reappeared that his heart pounded painfully against his ribs. And, by the time he finally broached into the small clearing that held his first-born twins, there was more than just Tutti’s return filling the small, overgrown glade.

“Tutti?” was the King’s first, hoarse question—though as his unfaltering steps took him closer to his spotted daughter, his stunned gaze glanced between the egg fragments, the small mewling creatures, Zubi’s bleeding nose, Maude, and the unknown piebald hybrid that filled the space with commotion and noise.

But Tembovu’s first objective was to try to run his large, pale muzzle over every inch of his daughter to ensure that she was real, alive, and present; once that was accomplished (should Tutti hold still for long enough), he reached out and tried to bring his little girl tightly to his chest—just as Zubi had done scant moment before. “I have missed you, my daughter.”

Only then did the King turn his attention to the newly hatched creatures, “A kiboko—or, I should say, kijiboio,” he grinned and looked down at his daughter, whom he remained near, “A fiercely strong, but caring companion. I think she suits you, Tutti.” His attention then shifted to the dark, sharp-toothed creature that had already claimed Zubi’s blood. “A ngawa, both clever and quick. It may be a match for you, my son,” he grinned in approval of his children’s companions.

His head then rose to look at the pegasus, eyes creasing slightly in displeasure at the mare’s unfriendly words and demeanor towards both his children and the sweetling Maude. “Hello, I am Tembovu, King of the Edge.”

Katua was so focused on the egg that she hadn't noticed that there was anyone else around, so when her brother's voice rang out she jumped in surprise. She looke up, her delicately curved ears tilted forward as she listened. "Zubi?" The filly called out into the darkness. "Where are you?" It had been far too long since she'd last seen her brother and she couldn't help but think that she should have taken him with her when she'd followed their mother. The only reason she hadn't was because she hadn't expected to be gone for so long.

When Zubari finally did appear a bright smile lit up Katua's face. "Zubi!" She snuggled against her twin as he pulled her against his chest. "I followed mama." She answered. "She was here a little while ago, but she left already." Tutti pulled back to look back to the place where she'd last seen their mother. "We went to Dorobo." She whispered. Don't tell Poppy. "Silly Zubi, you know I can't leave you forever ."

But the reunion wasn't destined to end with just Zubari, because she could already hear her best friend calling her name. "Maudie!" The spotted girl squealed happily as the other filly appeared. She pulled away from Zubari and pranced closer to her friend, her neck extending so she could pull her into a hug. "I missed you, too!" Katua hadn't paid enough attention to see that there was a second egg along with the first one and she had quite the same reaction as Maude when the furry creature that had been inside of it bit him on the nose. "Zubi, are you okay?"

"What are you all doing? You're going to wake the dead."

"Tutti?"

Tutti looked from the hybrid mare to her father, and she couldn't help but be surprised that so many had arrived so quickly. Had they been waiting on her? It's something that she could dwell on later, so she grinned. "Poppy!" Her voice was, once again, a happy squeal and she danced over to where her father stood. "Poppy, you just missed Mama." She snuggled against her father's chest and had no intention of moving, but then she remembered the egg. "Oh! Look, Poppy, I got an efelant, too!" She watched it as it waddled toward her on it's stumpy legs. "It's kinda weird lookin'." She looked up at Tembovu, her tiny nose wrinkling when he called it something different. "So it's not an efelant?" She asked. "Are you sure?"

Grumbling the boy snorted softly. Golden eyes looked to his friend Maude and then to his sister. Many people have arrived at this little gathering, and he wanted to tell the painted woman to go away. His sister speaks of where she went, and do not tell the King. Well her secret was guarded with him. Zubari does not want to tell that man a single thing. Nodding his antlered skull with a wink his attention falls to the arriving group of people. Chocolate ears pinned slightly at her comment, then, of course, his father shows up. A soft snort left his maw as his brow furrowed. Drops of blood landed on the ground in front of his hooves pinning his ears he lowered his snake-like neck snapping back at the small beast. Rolling into a ball of black fuzz under the large king's body, the civet hissed at the boy. "I'm fine..... Thank you, Maude and Tutti. It is good to see you, my friend." His royal skull dips before reaching out to touch the girl's cheek in a greeting. Zubari was becoming very fond of Maude, the little beam of sunshine was growing on him.

Then his gold gaze falls to the painted woman. Eyes narrowed upon her bodice, and he steps forward. "Yeah and maybe the dead will drag you back to the grave with them. That would be most wonderful considering that you show no ounce of emotion to what's going on here. My sister was missing for months, and I just found her. If you had people you cared about, maybe you would feel our joy. Oh, wait you seem to be a cold-hearted, emotionless, stone beast that shows no empathy for others. I wouldn't expect you to understand our feelings. So let us enjoy our sense of happiness without you; if you're just going to try and ruin it." A smirk falls upon his maw as he turns away from the woman to stand with his sister and Maude. The Civet chuckled brightly scurrying over to his bonded. Then his attention trailed off to the bald creature running about.

Mahoney colored fluff came to a halt trying to sniff the hippo's nose. Then sharp teeth tried to nip at the bald beast. Zubari looked to his companion with disapproval walking over and pushing away from the small creature. "I am sorry little one. I don't think he meant it." His face was slightly confused looking at his sister and father. "Your name will be Kuuma. I perfect name for a nippy ngawa ." His eyes looked to his sister and friend for approval. Then to his father. The king had to know what that name meant. "What's the name of yours, Tutti?.""I hope he will actually become my friend." worried eyes glanced at the spotted creature stalking a small rabbit.

"Talk."

Blushing and girlishly nipping back at Zubari when he touches her cheek, Maude is not sure why the gesture flusters her so. Perhaps, she thinks, it is because Katua’s brother has usually been quite rude to her, but over the course of his sister’s disappearance, especially, he seems to have warmed up quite a lot. Now that she thinks about, that gentle brush against her cheek had been the first time he’d touched her that hadn’t been a shove, or a gesture of roughness, and mock battle between the three children.

"You too, Zubi," she giggles, as her nose tucks down towards her chest, and her citrine eyes crinkle mirthfully.

Adding his massive bulk to the gathering, the King’s arrival earns a curtsy from the filly almost as soon as his presence is noted, her lips grinning all the broader that she could be here for the family’s reunion. Still breathless from her erratic greeting to her dearest Tutti, so much happens at once that Maude is actually speechless, simply watching each speaker, and then the next. Despite the tensions building in the air, because no one seems to like the painted mare very much (except, of course, the ginger babe, who held ill regard towards very, very few, especially those she had just met), the child is too happy to let her smiles be stifled.

Thereby, Zubari’s outburst momentarily earns a surprised stare from Maude, who looks between him and the strange are quite nervously, glad that Tembovu had arrived just moments before. She didn’t know about what Tutti and Zubi’s parents had taught them about strangers, but hers had always told her that some weren’t very nice at all. The cherub had then, of course, determined that it was probably best to just be kind to everyone she met. She certainly had a difficult time trying to be grumpy with someone who was trying so hard to be good!

"Oh, Zubi!" she exclaims, quite horrified for the both of them, looking fretfully over towards the stranger, "I’m sure you have feelings, and you are certainly not a beast. Zubari is a warrior in his heart, and sometimes his words are sharp. What he means to say, I’m sure, is that the dead surely will not mind that we have happiness in our life?"

She closes with a question, because, well, maybe that’s not what Zubari meant, and now he’ll be very, very upset with her. Regardless, Maude supposes she would rather have the spotted colt be frustrated with her words and actions, than to have a fight break out between King Tembovu and whoever this only slightly malevolent, concerned citizen was.

So, the darling is happy when the conversation again moves to the baby animals, and her friend chooses a name for his vicious new friend. Kuuma, he names his ngawa, asking Tutti what she’s going to call her… uh, kimono?

"Oh, what are you gonna call it?" she cheerfully questions, eagerly smiling at her best friend in all of Helovia in anticipation for what, surely, will be the coolest name ever contrived.

Ask no questions, and you'll be told no lies
A real adult shows up (after all, she’s three, and hardly very adult-like by design).  Apparently two of these are his children, and when he goes and gives her a disappointed father stare, she doesn’t blink at it. His children are wandering the threshold alone, which makes her suspect he has no right to that disappointing father stare. Or maybe he does, she still doesn’t mind. Instead she wonders what this Tembovu, King of the Edge, would think of her father. Not that they would ever meet, but man oh man, would that be fun. Weed, and every ounce of him fit that name. He was the monster that crawled in everywhere you didn’t want him and wouldn’t die. She was sunshine and rainbows compared to him. And her mother. Helovia should count itself lucky they got her, and not either of her parents.

“Weaver, from the Aurora Basin” is all she says, having no title to offer that meant anything here. The way King of the Edge still means little to her, though she stores the information away knowing it was important. The child called Tutti largely ignores her, which is fine. Zubari, of course, does not. True to the boy he’d been when they’d first met, he spews a whole lot of ridiculous words. She’s about to open her mouth, but the other filly speaks, and at this Weaver grins slightly.

She nods at Maude, liking the girl. Though Maude really did appear to be sunshine and rainbows, at least she was smart. Zubari so far was a whole lot of bark and not so much bite, but maybe he’d prove her wrong one day. Bite she enjoyed. “I never said they minded,” she ways with a wink to Maude, “And I certainly never said you should stop waking the dead.”

Her gaze turns to Zubari at that, who apparently thinks she’s telling them to shut up. If she were someone else, that was probably a safe assumption. It was not a phrase often used kindly, and she can’t say she was being kind, but she wasn’t necessarily complaining. But when you meet death multiple times, as she has, you tend to speak of the dead. “For that matter, how could I know what was going on? I did ask.” Assuming makes an ass of you and me, after all. But with Daddy King towering around, she decides not to say that.

Tembovu the Elephant King
“Yes, Tutti, I am sure it is not and elephant,” but, while the father patiently answered his daughter’s question, the Elephant King’s ears perked forward, his head raising and eyes sweeping futilely around the moment Katua said, ”Poppy, you just missed Mama.” But his nostrils still flared, quivering as if he might be able to catch sight or sent of the long-gone Adaeze. But it was to no avail, and his attention swiftly turned back to his children—or, more aptly, the sharp and precocious condemnation his son was giving the unknown winged hybrid that had the misfortune of being on the receiving-end of his son’s darker, vindictive speeches.

The King’s ears tilted backwards—but before he could say anything, Zubari’s newly born companion took its first blood… from Zubi. Brows raised as he watched, though he could not help the slight nod in agreement of how appropriate his son’s name for his ngawa was—despite the slight macabre instance. “A good name, my son.”

The dark moment was broken by Maude, her gentle nature trying to appease the newcomer before effervescently bouncing back to happy curiosity about Katua naming her new companion. “Indeed, yes, what will you name her?” Tembovu echoed Maude’s question of his daughter.

But then his gaze swept back to Weaver as the black and white mare introduced herself. His dark eyes study her for a moment, weighting his duties as father versus King. The fatherly part of him wished to whisk his newly appeared daughter, his son, and Maude back to the safety of the Edge. The King in him knew he should remain diplomatic and friendly towards the Basin mare.

So, as an internal compromise, he deep voice simply rumbled, “I look forward to meeting you again, Weaver.” Before lowering his head to herd the foals back west.
