home is behind the world ahead
there are many paths to tread

The memories of clearing the debris from the filthy, ever-roaring tide of the Endless blue were still fresh within his mind. Cleaving up skuls, jaw bones and horns of countless Helovians was a task that was sure to haunt any - it had certainly caused Toulouse to question his own longevity given the current stakes. He was no battle-hardened warrior, nor a great survivor. If anything, he was an old tomcat with too many scars to count, and eight out of nine lives gone and passed.

Toulouse would have you believe that his reality was torn from others; in truth, it was all one and the same. Thought while Kaos was a threat to everyone, there were those who's impertinence and negligence remained just as much of a threat. It had been for this reason that his business went north, and he now found himself in the company of new brother's and sisters - a much hardier kind, a kind who got things done rather than barking orders from the sidelines like his former colleagues.

Stepping calmly onto the shore, allowing the seafoam to envelop his hooves and tickle at his ergots, Toulouse gave the softest of sighs as his gaze embraces the stormy sunset over yonder. He wasn't interested in looking east towards the cliffs to where he would be sure to find the lands of his former herd, and he daren't look south towards the dead lands and the marsh; that place still haunted him, it was still fresh.
Trudging back onto the dryer sand, Toulouse gave yet another gruff exhale - this time shifting his hooves over the sand in a mindless attempt to build some kind of square structure.

Ask no questions, and you'll be told no lies
The memory of cleaning up bones doesn’t haunt her. It never will. Things die, shit happens, move on. She cared more about what Kaos had planned for their future than what she’d done in the past to unknowingly aid a monster. Though at the time, she was so new to Helovia, she might have aided him willingly. The promise of power would have been enough to tempt her then, though not now. Know she has a home, a place that feels like hers the way the Chamber had felt like her mother’s. And she served to protect it, to throw herself in front of those who could die. Because she couldn’t. Because she wasn’t limited to one or nine or even one hundred lives. She was limited only by time, and she had plenty of that left.

She heads out today because she can. Because she’s not fighting for a hot second and her wings could use a stretch and her muscles a new place to train. So she heads to the beach, thinking sea and sand might make for a good place to run and fly and generally just kill some time. It’s hot, but there’s an ocean there, so she can cool herself off easily enough. Raven flies above her, finally grown enough to stop hitching a ride everywhere. He prefers the sky, finally, too. It gives him a better sightline to possible shiny things.

Raven has taken to collecting. There’s a mass of stuff in his nest back in the Basin, and occasionally he dumps something out onto Weaver’s head, having found a new and better thing to replace the old one with. Today she figures he’s going home with a pile of shells, though she does not plan to carry them for him. He can have as many as he can carry. Such a child. And of course, like any good mother, she’ll end up carrying his shells.

She walks today, taking in the sights, so the sun is well above her by the time she makes it to the beach. There are others there, though, and one is familiar. She’s seen him around enough lately to know he belongs to the Basin, and feeling like making new friends (or enemies, she never knows), she makes her way over. “You live in the Basin, yea?” she says, her version of a polite hello. “I’m Weaver. She’s about to introduce Raven, but he’s already gone, halfway down the beach having spotted something. She can feel excitement and greed through their bond, and so she figures her companion is perfectly fine and perfectly happy to go collecting without her. As long as she can feel him, and she keeps one mental finger on their bond, warning him not to go far.

nbeknownst to her fellow herd mates on the shore, the blue Lady wanders not very far away from them, although somewhere they wouldn’t exactly expect. Out across the dancing waters, and below the surface, along the wet soil of the ocean’s floor, is where Tiamat stands. Her cloven hooves (now webbed between her toes) are anchored into the fine sand, and her leonine tail (now strung with fins on either side) waves gently to and fro, keeping her steady in the face of the water’s strong (albeit weaker, this deep) current. Every now and then a few bubbles leak from the gills that line her naturally-sleek neck, evidence of her breathing in this underwater world.

Her eyes wander over the reef—the very reef that they had wandered to upon Kisamoa’s that monster Kaos’ request. It is so beautiful, with all the bright colors, and the vibrant sea creatures peeping through the coral, and the way that the saturated hues of the sunset reflect in waves of light (not unlike the unicorn’s own markings). She refuses to believe that a place this gorgeous can be tainted by a monster so cruel, but still her heart is heavy.

With a purse of her sapphire lips and a wordless gesture to her companion, the sea maiden turns herself towards the shore. Pushing up from the ground, she flounders gracelessly with her legs for a moment (still getting used to this whole swimming thing versus walking or running) before she settles into a stride that carries her towards the surface. It is easier once her hooves find purchase again, the ground shallow enough now that she is able to stand. Thrusting her head into the summer air with a great fan of water spraying from her hair, Tiamat chokes for a moment, coughing while the gills slowly disappear from her neck as the water streams from her slender body.

Blinking her eyes, she notices the figures along the shoreline. “Hello!” She calls out to them, coughing once more before she sighs naturally through her nostrils, quickly recognizing the two equines for who they are once she is able to compose herself. “Toulouse! Weaver!” The Ocean’s Light is, as usual, bright and effervescent like always, truly excited to see two of the members who share her beloved mountain home. “How’re you two?” She inquires across the distance, moving through the shallow waves to join them.

Behind her, Nimue finally bursts from the ocean, trilling a happy whistle as she leaps from the frothy waves. Bounding across the rolling surface, she catches up to her bonded, her blue eyes as big and bright as the mare’s. The little orca is crooning low chirps when they approach the pair, hovering close to the sea maiden’s shoulder. “What’re you doing? Building something?” Tiamat asks enthusiastically, carrying on as though rising suddenly from the ocean to join them isn’t completely bizarre. “Can I help?” She smiles to Toulouse, already reaching forward with a hoof to help him dig up some sort of sandy structure.

“Speech.”

The longer he stood prodding the sand, the longer he became engrossed and enchanted by how easy it was to mould. It was actually quite fun to sculpt, and not tomention deceptively therapeutic.
The snake that usually slept coiled upon his crown had now taken to slithering across the shore, investigating the sea life that had washed up, and bringing back a collection of shells and seaweed to decorate the structure with. Though their bond was still silent, the snake still young and playful, Toulouse was confident that Boomslang would become a most fearsome companion; one that in time would connect his soul like a letter into an envelope.

Smiling as he quietly dug at the sand, it had been a voice that distracted him. Turning his crown to find the eyes of another upon him and recounting the phrase "you live in the basin, yea?", Toulouse blinked slowly towards this new woman. How on earth did she know where he lived?
Though upon further inspection of her appearance he came to the conclusion that she was in fact a herd-sister of his - he had seen her only days ago at a meeting.

"Of course I do, sister" He spoke softly, his keen eyes tracing over her figure once more. There was a witchiness about her that he had not seen in a long time - it called to him... she called to him.
Bloodthirsty lips twisted once again into a smile when she spoke her name; Weaver. How obscure.
"I am Toulouse - but you may refer to me as brother. We are family are we not?" his smile however sly was soon knocked from his face when movement in the waves drew his attention away from the pegasus.
Boomslang gave  hiss, his neck arching as he reared his head.

Though out of the waves came someone he had least expected. Their Lady Tiamat.
"My lady," Toulouse breathed "I did not expect to see you... there" he smirked, casting his gaze out to the ocean. what a remarkable power she held. He hoped they never asked him about his own. Her offer to help caught him off guard, when really he wasn't actually doing anything to begin with besides mindlessly tracing his way over the sand. who was he to deny the Lady, though?
"Oh, why of course" He muttered "that would be most helpful"

“Depends on your definitely of family,” she says bluntly. She didn’t just call every member of the Basin brother or sister. She would protect them, yes, but that didn’t mean she had to like them. Okay fine, maybe that is the exact definition of siblings. She hadn’t exactly loved her three brothers all the time, but she’s protected them too. Well, the younger ones, anyway. Erebor never needed her help, all boring stotic mountain breed to be a fighter. They did not share a fighter, which is how she ended up so much weaker and smaller than her ridiculous brothers.

Still, she lets the statement linger, because it’s the sort of thing that she does. Even though there’s something about him that she likes. He seems slippery and sly, very much like the snake that seems to be bringing seashells. You could be bringing things, she thinks at Raven, despite the fact he cannot understand her at all. He’ll pick up on her huffy attitude, and then he will promptly ignore it and keep collecting the shinnies for himself. Raven was terrible at sharing.

She’s about to say more, but there’s another voice, one that is instantly familiar. Tia. Always happy and bubbly and despite this, Weaver can’t quite bring herself to dislike the mare. Not that Weaver does happy and bubbly real well. But she seemed like a strong enough leader, and she, unlike the Tiny Clever One (who’s name Weaver can’t be bothered with) hasn’t up and disappeared. Then the whale is bursting out of the ocean behind the Ocean’s Light and Weaver puts two and two together.

Toulouse is far less blunt than Weaver. “You go for a swim?” Because the Lady was definitely not visible a moment ago, so she was definitely under the water somewhere. Not that this entirely surprises Weaver, given that the mare looks like the ocean put her together in the first place. “What exactly are you building? Though whatever it is, it will need some defenses.” She says with a grin, always the warrior, and she sets to helping. Well, mostly digging. Everything needed a moat. And a wall. And whatever else she could manage to build with sand.

“Y
ou go for a swim?”

The Corporal’s (amused, Tiamat would like to think) question distracts her focus from the mound of sand she had been collecting, and she raises her white eyes to follow Toulouse’s gaze out across the ocean. “Oh! Yes—” the blue Lady laughs airily, tossing her head with a chiming of seashells as she realizes the reason for their curiosity; she imagines seeing someone else suddenly bursting from the depths of the sea, and is still tickled by the picture. How peculiar it would be! “Isn’t it wonderful? I discovered it just last season,” she explains with a wide grin sweeping across her lips, sighing blissfully to herself.

Little does the ocean Lady know that the two herd mates now beside her also have their own passive magic. Of course, she would never be able to guess either of them. While she has heard of few people being immortal throughout Helovia (her dear friend, Nox, being one of them), the ability of resurrection—to die completely, and then come back to life—is one that is foreign to her. And an equine that drinks blood? Perhaps it is in the gelding’s best interest that his ocean friend not know of his plight, because while she would be hard-pressed to judge him for it, there would undoubtedly be a barrage of questions to satisfy her curiosity.

Instead, in familiar and wonderful ignorance, the Ocean’s Light turns her attention back to their sandy structure. She smiles when Weaver joins their efforts, nodding enthusiastically to the idea of a moat and wall, which gives her a splendid idea. “I think we should build a castle—a grand palace,” Tiamat crows with a dramatic sweep of a cloven hoof to raise a pointed tower—which inevitably falls over a moment later. Undeterred, she looks eagerly to her Leviathan, “Nimue? Would you mind?” The little orca trills a whistle before gliding back to the ocean.

While the blue mare focuses on building a new and reinforced tower of sand, the Leviathan dives beneath the surface of frothy waves and rolling tides. Returning to the reef that she and her bondmate had just left, Nimue swims through the coral, seaweed, and schools of fish. She searches the ocean floor for empty seashells, picking up the most colorful ones with her round lips and carrying them back with her. Smiling when she sees her companion burst again to the surface, Tiamat thanks the whale, and collects the pile of shells between the three of them. “To decorate it with,” she explains, grabbing one and sticking it on the tower she had just finished, proudly displaying it to her herd mates.

“Speech.”
