It wasn’t a terrible past that she had run from. It’s just that it loomed over her, too large and too impossible to shine beneath its’ shadow. There, she was the daughter of a Queen, one that had been cruel and terrible. Not to say Weaver didn’t deserve some of the reputation she had, but it wasn’t her own reputation. She was known entirely because of what her mother had done, and not what she might be capable of. So, she left.

Also, her entire home crumbled and the whole place flipped on its head and generally hell broke loose. But whatever.

She’s never even really thought about boys in the context of the Aurora Basin, but the thought trickles into her now. Not that she’s likely to spread her legs for just anyone (sorry boys, for all the flirty, she is a picky lady). But beneath the dancing lights of the night sky there, it would be something pretty special. Romantic, even. Not that she’s necessarily one for romance. But she can dig the idea of it. The story. Yea, convinced that one over there beneath the northern lights. Yes, she would absolutely say that aloud.

But that’s a long way out. For now, she’s gotta get him back there and hope he sticks around. Some have a tendency not to stick. “Shall we?” she says, nodding toward the north, encouraging him to join her in their nice stroll back home. Flying was faster, but she’s pretty used to walking given that nearly no one in the Basin has wings. There’s one other that she’s seen at this point, and in a way, it annoys her to no longer being the only one. Though it’s good, in another way, because the prejudice and the fact she rarely flies definitely sucks.

But the place as a whole doesn’t suck. If she can stick around despite the fact her wings are often looked at sideways, that says something. That’s it’s worth the fight to prove wings don’t make her inherently bad. She’s not a good egg, but she will fight tooth and nail for her fellow Basiners. “Size is relative, though it’s not small.” Certainly larger than her old home had ever been. But compared to the other herds, she was less certain.

She sets off, tossing her head to look at him and make sure he’s following. Just in case he’s not, she adds a nice come hither look. “See,” she says, head flipping forward again, mane flying as it often does around her, “we have these really great hot springs. So I’ll just take you there, and then you will be a clean stranger. And soon you won’t be a stranger all.”

She keeps walking, not looking back, though Raven is doing the looking for her at this point, keeping an eye on the stallion so he can alert her if she actually should look. “Ah, see dear, you are just simply lucky enough to have caught me.” Not that she is really catchable. She comes and goes as she pleases. But for the moment, she has been caught.

The walk is long, but not horrible, and she’s enjoying the company. Flirting really passes the time, and before she knows it valley pass is before them, the metal sentinels rising up in all their decaying glory. She keeps going until they get to the hot springs, basically at the other side of the herdland, letting him dictate the pace to look around if he wants. “A bath for you, dirty stranger?”

Before I know it, I'm being invited to follow her and I do so without reservation. Her voice rises up like feathers: "shall we?" "Oh, we so shall," I answer with verve, tossing my tail. Like I said earlier, I could care less where I'm going. I just need to go.

But all in all, the Basin sounds cool. If there's really an affinity for unicorns there, like Weaver said, then I'm more than willing to be showered in any affections my presence might provoke. Bring it on, I think, just as Weaver's gesturing for me to follow. I lift my head a little and grin, trotting after her and then matching her pace so that I can stroll alongside her.

During the journey, she tells me a little bit about the Basin and I interject with my own quips when I can. The walk takes a while, but I can't complain. When the air begins to cool and my leg muscles begin to ache, that's when we arrive. Mountains loom around the area, all quiet and imposing, and there's these wicked-looking metal things scattered around. I pause on occasion to glance around, but I mostly stick with Weaver.

Soon, she leads me to a gaping pool of water, steam rising up from a crystal-blue surface. "A bath for you, dirty stranger?" I've never been in a hot spring before, but there's a first for everything. "If you insist," I say with a grin before leaving her side and wading into the water, slowly at first and then all at once.

The water's hot against my skin, but it feels amazing. Steam rises all around me. It soothes my muscles and I give a relaxed sigh before turning my head back to my escort. "God damn, you are quite the host. This feels great," I comment sincerely, sinking a little further into the water. Little bubbles tickle my skin and I close my eyes for a second, letting the water pull the exhaustion right out of my bones. I could stay in here allllll day. I look at Weaver expectantly. "Come on, sweetheart, I'm not the only one who's dirty."

You can have your very own
Devil at the cross roads

The air was crisp and cool on this summer day. Velvet nostrils took in each breath with a slowed drawl. Closing deep gray eyes the demon let the world possess his body. The birds chirping turned into a clatter of laughter, the breeze in the trees turned into a sound of shackles against stone walls. Earth was living hell for the beast. He was damned to eternity on this godforsaken planet. He had to walk the earth for eternity while others passed away and died peaceful or dreadful deaths. Then in a moment, everything came to a halt. The laughter of the birds fell silent, the shackles of the trees grew to a standstill. Someone was near.

Bringing his mind back to the present day, gray eyes opened. They were dead and cold to the world around him. Maybe if someone knew what the haunting beast went through, they would understand his frozen appeal. The brute focused on the land around him. Keen eyes quickly picked up the movements of two creatures in the distance. Cracked hooves began to move under his heavy weight. Think rippling muscles contracted and relaxed over bones below. His scar-laced pelt glimmered with an eerie dull glow under the sun's rays. Finally, the beast stood in front of the man wading in their hot spring. His brow raised slightly looking at the stallion enjoying himself. Tilting his head with a slight cock of his demonic skull his cold, dead, heartless gaze watched the man.

For a moment Nox was silent, not a single word slipped from his mouth. The heathen looked to the painted girl that he stood next to. He was growing fond of her, and she seemed to be a great addition to the Basin. Thick tresses of his tangled tail flicked against his blackened haunches. Strands of his mane webbed together, cloaking his neck in a gauzed hood of the reaper's residing in the pits of hell. Finally, the man spoke with deep rumbling words"Hello Weaver, it is wonderful to see you again. Who is your friend?" His voice dripped from his maw like crimson blood. Each letter was laced in a deep Latin accent. The language of the dead, and a dead language that not many speak in Helovia. "I am Mortuus Nox, a Time Mender for the Basin." His demonic skull hung in a ghostly manner waiting to see what these two were up too.

"Talk."

She really didn’t need an invitation into the hot springs. She was just being a generous host and letting their hopefully new resident go first. She’s about to join him when she catches the sounds of another coming their way. Her ear pricks in the direction of the footsteps, one eye waiting for whoever was coming to join them. The form that slides into view is familiar and welcome, the black Time Mender one her favorite faces around this place. She is, however, curious how he’ll like Rhodoc.

For a moment he’s silent, and she lets the silence hang there, waiting. After a moment he finally speaks, and she turns completely to offer him her usual Cheshire grin. “Mortuus,” drawing out the name slightly in a sound that might be somewhat affectionate, “This is Rhodoc. He’s come quite a ways and needed a bath. Also a home.”

He introduces him to Rhodoc, and she looks back at the other black stallion (there was a theme of black unicorns in the Basin, seriously). “Time Mender is a fancy word for healer,” she offers, as she slips into the pool next to him. Her attention turns back to Mortuus with that grin. “Will you join us?” She asks, finding that she actually hopes he’ll join. Somehow the idea of being surrounded by Mortuus and Rhodoc is a pleasant one, and she’d like to continue her party.

“Mortuus has been ever so kind to introduce me to some of the umm…more fun….herbs in the greenhouse.” Yes, of course she brings this up. Why? Because she’s throwing a party, and who has a party without at least offering the good stuff. Even if it’s a tiny little party of two, maybe three.   “There’s a number of jobs in the Basin, if that sort of thing interests you. Solider, sleuth, crafter, healer, and wise ones.” And then she falls silent, having talked their ears off enough for the moment.

She's this close to sliding right on in beside me when something drags her attention away, and I turn my head to watch for the culprit. The water boils all around me, steam pressing against my face, and for a moment I see nothing. Everything turns quiet - which, another thing, I'm not particularly fond of quiet - until I can make out the shape of a large, shadowy figure through the thin veil of mist.

It seems to take forever - mind you, at this point I'm just chilling in their hot tub, waiting for something to happen - but eventually the dark form steps closer and addresses Weaver. My ears flicker forward as I allow myself to look him over. He's cloaked in black (same as me, but without the purple sheen) and he's got these two horn curling away from his head. He stands all heavy and ominous-like, but I can dig it.

I let them exchange pleasantries, and then it's my turn. "Who is your friend?" The man says, his voice deep like winter. At this, I perk up, tilting my head and flashing my most flattering smile. Curvy-horn man introduces himself as Mortuus Nox - Mortuus for short, I assume - and Weaver introduces me.

Mortuus is a Time Mender, and since I have no clue what the fuck that means, Weaver's there to explain that it means he's a healer. Now, she's wading into the water and inviting Mortuus to join. I like that idea, and so I nod encouragingly to the man. "Come, come," I murmur against the steam. "I don't bite. Hard, at least."

Although the more the merrier, if Mortuus declines I'm more than delighted with Weaver's company. “Mortuus has been ever so kind to introduce me to some of the umm…more fun….herbs in the greenhouse.” I lift my brows and tilt my head towards Mortuus, as if waiting for validation. "Mortuus, I think I like you already," I grin, because I like to get high. "Maybe if you like me back you could show me these special little herbs sometime, yeah?"

And as far as jobs go, I don't really know what I want. I just kinda want to chill out for a while and see what happens. I'm not exactly the ambitious type, and that's part of what got me thrown out of my last place.

Mortuus is quiet at all this, and somehow Weaver isn’t entirely surprised. He strikes her as the type that likes poisons but totally won’t admit it. Aka the type that likes fun but tries to pretend otherwise. It’s easy to fall down the rabbit hole, after all. Weaver doesn’t because her life is the entire rabbit hole. She fights for a living, takes drugs and long hot baths because her body is usually a collection of cuts and bruises and pain anyway. So might as well mask all that somehow.

She can’t help but wonder what his story is though. Part of her wants to get to know the black demon better, wants to snag him all to herself one day and ask entirely too personal, no-holds-barred type questions. See if he would answer, or just give her one of the poisons she doesn’t yet know about and watch her die of it.

But now is not that time. Not with Rhodoc here and the steam and the wonderful hot tub. She laughs as Rhodoc encourages Mortuus to join them, threatening not to bite too hard. “He might be worried about my bite,” she says with a teasing grin. Though to be fair, she's a solider, and she totally bites hard.

Raven, for his part, is currently glower at her from a nearby tree. He hates the hot springs, and never wants much to do with them. She looks at him and tries to convey blue plant except they can’t speak yet, so it may or may not work. But he seems to figure out she wants something, because he’s gone, glad for the excuse to get away from the hot spring. When the bird returns, he has actually managed to find the blue plant that Mortuus had shown Albretcht. Raven dumps it unceremoniously in the water between then, before returning to his perch on the tree as far away as possible.

“I cheated,” she says with a teasing grin, before pushing the blue plant in Rhodoc’s way. “If you’d like.”

Mortuus says nothing for the most part, or if he does, I don't notice. I'm too busy enjoying the luxury of the spring, letting the mist rise up against my coat and turn my blood hot. There weren't any of these natural springs back home, and I wonder how on earth I survived without. I moan, roll my head back, close my eyes - you know, make a big show out of it - before a gentle splash in the water between Weaver and I begs my attention.

When I open my eyes, there's some blue water lily floating on the surface. And glancing up just in time to see the familiar raven's wings flash against the sky tells me Weaver's little friend has been so generous as to provide. I shoot a devilish grin at the mare. Drugs and hot tubs? I think I'm going to like it here.

"I cheated," she grins before giving me the honor, which makes me grin right on back. "You're nothing but trouble, aren't you?" I watch her with a twinkle in my eye, reaching out towards the plant and inhaling deeply when my lips brush against it. Thing is, I don't mind trouble. I actually dig it.

But anyway, this is some loud shit that Weaver's bird brought, because the scent is so sharp and strong that I'm sure just huffing it would do the trick. But to be honest, I'm more of a down-the-hatch kinda guy, so I take it in my teeth and tear off enough to get me feeling funny while leaving the rest to Weaver and Mortuus.

I push the remaining piece back to Weaver and start to chew, sharp flavors bursting across my tongue and making my mouth tingle. It won't take long for the effects to work - I've been high off this stuff before - and I swallow and lean back, anticipating the fun. "So those metal things," I start, scooting closer to Weaver and sinking a little deeper into the water. I'm thinking back to the entrance of the Basin, to those weird statue things. "What's all that about?"

Devil at the cross roads

The man was an odd man indeed. Weaver slips into the water next to the stag and Gray cold eyes watch. Stone orbs gaze over her bodice soaking with hot springs water. A cold sigh wants to slip from his maw, but it remains locked away in silence. They invite him into the water with them. His minds scream's just walk away fuck it, but his heart makes him stay ( well what's left of his heart.) The man talks about the herbs he showed to Weaver after she says something about it. His mind flashed back to reality as his attention fell back to Weaver. She was a good student and remembered what they talked about in the herb lesson. A deep chuckled erupted from his chest. It was hallowed and from the depths of hell. "I must say the other healers are not fond of hallucinogenics. So I just ask that you find me in my cave if you have questions Rhodoc." His deep voice dripped with a heavy Latin accent as he listened to Weaver speak once again.

She wants the scarred man to going them in the hot water. His face remained emotionless and dead to the world as a cracked black hoof took a step into the shallow depths of the water. Nox did not go deeper than his lower chest. He stood in the water as his pelt blackened darker than the deadliest night. His tail floated on top of the water like tangled spiderwebs. His demonic crown looks to see the raven come back with the blue water lily. It floats to the surface of the water like a sweet soft melody, then it is dampened and darkened with the water's surface. "I am glad to see you took something away from the lesson. Just be careful playing with the blue water lily." His tone was not of a father, more of a demon tempting you with a good time. Then the man asks about the Sentinels. "The Sentinels use to guard the Basin years ago. They were to keep outsiders out. The Basin was not very tolerable to many species back in the day, but that is another story for a different day. They were built by Ulrik The Engineer. He left the Basin not long after I arrived. Without him here the Sentinels will not operate correctly. He was the one who maintained them, so now they have fallen apart. Deimos the old Lord told Ulrik to come get the scraps of metal, but he never did. So they still remain. There has been talking about restoring them, but nothing has been done. " Finally the man finishes speaking about the sentinels. Then the demonic beast turns to the next topic. "Is there a trade you wish to lend your skills in? We have the warrior, sneak, healing, wise, and crafting ranks. If you wish to remain undecided that is fine."

"Talk."

She’s still not entirely sure why the Basin tolerates her here. To her credit, she’s thrown herself into this herd, getting her butt whooped for its benefit now. But still, she’s definitely trouble, though usually of a relatively tame variety. Hot tubs and flirting and drugs were hardly concerning, really, just the harmless sort of trouble that is entertaining. “Definitely my middle name,” she says in agreement, using the cliché without hesitation. Own it, and it works. She waits for Rhodoc to take a bite, and then she snags some for herself, leaving some for Mortuus though suspecting the demon won’t touch it. Not much of a demon.

He does finally joining them though, and she gives him a sly smile and a wink, glad to have him in the springs. Even if he’s only half it, it seems like the best she’s going to get. One day she was really going to have to get to know him better. There seemed to be more than met the eye with him (though there always is, so this isn’t hard to guess at). She’s also not surprised when Mortuus warns Rhodoc against asking the other healers such questions. Weaver doesn’t know Enna, but if she’s anything like Tia and Lena, well then yea, it makes sense.

She debates sliding up closer to Mortuus, but doesn’t, suspecting that won’t bring his wall down but make it even damn taller. Instead she laughs slightly, saying “I’m always careful,” in a tone that makes it very clear this is a bald faced lie. She is never careful. Then, quieter, mostly for Mortuus but hardly keeping it from Rhodoc, “You’ll find I’m hard to kill, dear mender.” Not that he wouldn’t see his fair share of her anyway.

Mortuus goes into an explanation of the sentinels, and Weaver just listens, noting the mention of prejudice that creeps in. That seems to be a trend here. But of course, prejudice doesn’t die easily. She’s heard more of the story by now, has visited the tomb of the last Lord, will one day seek the cave of wings. It doesn’t bother her so much, though she misses flying. She’s smart enough not to flaunt the wings on her back all the time, though she fights with them because she’s generally low on other advantages. Instead, she flits about here in raven form, hoping they don’t mind birds too.

She’s vaguely tempted to shift into a bird, wondering how that would go over in Rhodoc’s slightly drug addled brain. Hell, how would that go over in her drug addled brain? What was it even like to be high as a bird. Pay attention she thinks, a mental sort of smack coming through their bond from Raven at the same time. He felt a little bit more like Mortuus regarding the drugs and the ridiculous behavior of his bonded, but he tolerated her. She remains silent here, letting the boys talk jobs, debating if she could swim in the hot springs.

I take Mortuus' word to the wise with a sideways smirk and a thankful nod. If I ever do need something in the more recreational category, I know exactly who I'll go to. Apparently not everyone in the Basin is as keen on distributing the goods, but it seems like Mortuus would tolerate it.

Despite the melancholic vibe I'm getting from Mortuus, he's found it in him to join us in the spring where he goes no further than chest deep. Perhaps if it were someone else - a man a little less imposing, maybe - I'd slide right on over and cozy up, but instead I remain near Weaver, gaze rolling between them.

The dark brute explains about the wack-ass metal things - Sentinels, I guess - and I try my best to listen without getting bored. As if having a short attention span wasn't enough, the water lily isn't helping either. Things are getting a little warm and fuzzy, and I settle back with a decidedly blissful expression as the man concludes.

I'm not sure what to make of it all. Metal statues to keep guard, Lords and Engineers... In my current state, it's somewhat challenging to wrap my mind around it, but I blurt out what I think is best, "Sick," before moving on.

And Mortuus is moving on, too, because he's reciting this list of jobs from what seems like memory and I'm trying my best to hang on. Yikes. Responsibility. But there's one job that catches my attention, at least for a little bit. "Sneak..." I murmur, flipping my tail underneath the water. "Mind telling me a little more about that?"

I don't know. The name sounds cool.

She listens to the tale of the Sentinels, storing it away for later. They seemed a topic worth knowing about, though she’d like to point out the Basin still isn’t all that tolerant of other species. How many sets of wings did you seen around the Basin? How many heads didn’t have some horn or another? Not very many. There was one Pegasus who was rarely around, and Weaver, at least to her knowledge. The Basin may say that it’s changed, but it seems to her that they haven’t changed all that much.

She keeps her mouth shut though. The drugs are setting in, and she doubts she’d be much for having deep conversations about racial inequality and all that. It’s not like they treated her poorly here, though the wings got some stares when she first made this place her home. They were used to her now, but she wondered if they started at each pair of wings that walked through here. Weaver had made herself right at home in a way they couldn’t really argue, but not everyone would do the same.

Rhodoc though has a horn and no wings. He’ll fit right in with the 98% of the Basin that looks like him in that regard. Though he is purple, which is kind of different. It suits him, at any rate. Rhodoc catches on to the word Sneak though, and Weaver gives him an approving look. If she didn’t love fighting quite so much, she would have joined the sneaks herself. “They steal, of course,” she says with a wicked gleam in her eyes.

The drugs have definitely settled in. They don’t send her down some wild spiral of hallucinations, but just make her feel light and pleased and blissful. She could easily spend the rest of the evening feeling like this. “Usually items from others. Or sneak about and gather information. Sometimes you get to steal other horses.” She’d stolen a shell from a mermaid in her time hanging out with the sneaks on patrol, but that was less than exciting really. She’d given it back, after all.

In my old herd, there was always shit to do. It's somewhat comforting to know that's the same case in the Basin, but that doesn't mean I'm anymore willing to do it. Like right now, I'm just sitting here, staring at Weaver with this stupid drug-induced smirk as she lists the things that sneaks are in charge of -- like stealing horses. The most I ever did back home was drink too much.

I lift my brows, impressed but also questioning. "Oh, gods, is that so?" And now I'm wondering what anyone would need with a stolen horse, but whatever. To each their own, I guess, but if we're being perfectly honest I'd totally steal a dude or two in order to earn my keep. So I shoot Weaver an equally wicked smirk and tell her, "I don't know, dear, I have quite the persuasive reputation, so maybe I wouldn't have to steal at all." My words come out slow and easy, like they're taking their sweet time in my mouth before they come out into the steamy air.

Really, though, how hard could it be? I could steal things and/or others. With a reassuring nod to myself, I slide a little deeper into the water, touching my lips to the surface and blowing bubbles. "So, if I wanna be sneak or whatever," I muse between bubble-blowing. "Who do I talk to? Y'know, to become that." I've only ever been a commoner, this this is all new ground for me. And I'm not sure I like it yet.

Weaver is definitely not the best solider. She’d make a terrible General, so thank the Gods they have Erebos. She’s pretty good at getting into trouble, drugs and drink and the like. She doesn’t make a habit of it, of course, knowing that too much of a good thing makes it a bad thing. Besides, too much of a good thing would undo all the training she does, all the running and sparing and hell she puts herself through. But still, she’s not your typical solider, you know, the stick in the mud kinds. She definitely does drink and as is evidenced by this moment, she does drugs. She’s not always on her game should something happen, but she’s pretty damn sure she could still kick ass.

She laughs at his words, amused with his cocky and self-assured attitude. “That’d make you a whole new breed of sneak, I think.” She lets herself slip lower into the water, enjoying the evening and the company, even if Mortuus was likely judging the hell of out of her right now. He’d probably be judging the hell out of her forever and ever.

“Toulouse is one of our Phantoms, the head of the rank, and he’s around a bunch so you could talk to him. Or Rikyn or Tiamat.” She says, leaving out the other Phantom entirely because she has no idea who the chick is. She’s rarely around, so that sort of discounts her in Weaver’s book. Not that Tia had been around much lately, but that didn’t quite compute, because the bubbly ocean mare loved her home. Weaver didn’t quite discount the queen yet.
