Helovia Info
Helovia opened in February 2012! We are an active fantasy equine RPG
Where once the world narrowed into naught but gray dust and desolation, the gods called for life. Wielding the elements of fire and light, dark and wind, earth and water, spark and time, they have created Helovia. The realm is set within the mythical globe of Loorien, a planet rich with all variety of creatures and blessed with all manner of magic. Originally populated by nomadic, tribal characters, they've since grown into massive empires saturated with culture and history. Separated into four distinct segments of Helovia, called "The Regions," each band of horse strong enough and capable enough, took up the power and responsibility of leadership. Unicorns, old, wise and mysterious, took to the north, hidden in forests of mists and shadows and rarely making themselves known beyond their cliffs of the World's Edge. Equines, vast, organized and militaristic, split into two, one group went north to the Windtossed Foothills and the other group went south to the Dragon's Throat. Pegasus remained nomadic, making their homes in various parts of The Wilds in a migratory manner. For many generations, the land was peaceful and calm, but peace was never the way of the gods. With a clash of argument, war and bloodshed massacred Helovia, and in the aftermath, the realm was eerily quiet. Now, as newcomers sweep into this land, they are met with the lingering bitterness of the gods and the struggle to reclaim what was lost. Nothing remains safe or certain while sorcerers and soldiers alike brood and bide their time for revenge, honor and glory.

ORANGEMOON cools off the lands with a a viscious force. Colder than normal, a sign of things to come during Frostfall, Helovia is bathed in a rich tropical lushness - albiet a cold one. The coastlines of the Dragon's Throat are pelted constantly by tidal waves, and the desert climate is humid but chilly. Ice begins to form early in the Aurora Basin leaving the winding trails slick and dangerous. The mists of the World's Edge coat everything in a glistening crystalline shine which encourages mould to grow everywhere. The Spectral Marsh is the only area which remains fertile, blissfully temperature and lush.

WEAVER, Corporal of the Aurora Basin, is a relatively recent addition to Helovia and has taken it by storm. Branded with the seal of Death on her chest, intrigue and interest follow both her past and present. Though she is assuredly beautiful, her sometimes sharp personality reveals that there is more to this uni-peg hybrid than meets the eye. Proving herself able on the battlefield in the Basin’s warrior ranks, we can’t wait to see her test her mettle against the looming Kaos happenings! Congratulations!

For a moment, Alysanne hesitated on the southern edges of Helovia’s mainland - debating whether or not she should swim or fly - but Hemlock hovered in front of her and flapped his small wings in her face. His opinion on the matter was pretty clear. With a smile, she spread her wings and took off - her hooves trailing lightly over the turquoise water before she rose a few more feet. She continued to travel low, marvelling at the way the waves looked below her, and landed easily on the beach.
The breeze off of the sea helped ease the humidity and heat of the isles. It was still early in the morning but it felt like it would be a hot day. Alysanne didn’t intend on going into the jungle just yet. She figured her best chance at finding a coloured stone would be here on the beach where shells and stones were always washing up with the waves.
Hemlock flew low over the beach, adding his keen eyes to Alysanne’s green ones as she wandered slowly along the beach. A few other members of the Edge had shown interested in joining her on this trip south and she hoped they would arrive soon - it would be a pleasant way to spend the day, combing the beach for unique and colourful stones with a few friends.
By now, the long golden hours of Tallsun had chased away what chill remained of the spring and the days held plenty of light for tasks to be done or adventures to be had. For the past several months, Murdock had spent each waking hour tending to Chernobyl and more recently, their newborn son. His family was his pride and joy of course, but they had taken shelter in the depths of the forest in the recent weeks and he had begun to grow restless beneath the cage-like canopies hanging over his head. After settling the child and his mother in a safe place, he had set off in seek of a vacation of sorts, and his travels carried him south toward blue waters and islands scattered along the coastline.
The island below him trailed off into a finger-like point that stuck out further into the glimmering water. In some places, oddly shaped stones were scattered along the edge of the off-white sand just below the cool brim of the sea. Their dull colours were obscured as the waves rode over them, but nonetheless they intrigued him. Murdock had always been drawn to odd or out of place things, perhaps because he felt subconsciously that he would fit in better with that which was out of the ordinary.
He began a slow spiral downwards, pale wings tucking in against his sides slightly to allow his streamlined body to descend through the warm air. Here and there he was bumped about by the odd thermal as the morning heat stirred up vertical currents, but for the most part his ride was smooth until his silver hooves were gliding along the rippling surface of the sea.
Gently he let himself down into the knee-deep water, droplets spraying across his dark coat as his feet sank to the pillowy sand and he folded his wings against his sides. The ocean had such a wonderful and comforting smell to him, as he had grown up near the sea and spent much of his childhood playing on rocky beaches. He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply, filling his lungs with the salty scent he knew so well. As he breathed out again and opened his eyes, he noticed another figure off in the distance.
The stranger was walking along the edge of the water, seeming to comb the sands for something or perhaps just admiring the same stones he had been moments before. A small bird accompanied them, but from here he could not distinguish exactly what the creature was. The gentle breeze was from behind him at the time, so he could tell little about this unfamiliar figure from scent, but curiosity drew him closer through the playful waves until he was within earshot of the – ah, it was a mare.
“Good morning,” he greeted her sweetly, dark lips curling into a warm smile as he waded through the blue waters toward her. The golden sands of the beach behind her rose up to where dense forest met its edge and he could see bright flowers and tangled vines nestled into the shadows between mossy trunks. He felt far more comfortable out here in the open with the waves lapping at his knees and sea foam tickling his belly. It was a beautiful morning and would likely continue to be an equally beautiful day. “Are you searching for something?”
To Alysanne’s surprise, it wasn’t a fellow Edge member that called out a greeting to her but someone else entirely. Or, maybe, he was a member of the Edge but so new that she had never seen him before? It was certainly possible - but whether or not he called the Edge home, the sweet tone in his greeting made her welcome his company. Today was a day for friends - or at least that was what she was hoping. “Good morning!” She called back, coming to a stop in her wandering with a warm smile easily brightening her gaze as he waded towards her. Closer, she was certain she had never seen this stallion before.
Hemlock doubled back, the small owl swooping near the stranger and considering him before continuing his search for rocks (and insects to eat) down the beach.
The stranger’s question brightened Alysanne’s smile a little further - she felt a ridiculous sense of delight that she actually had an answer that wasn’t “oh no I’m just wandering”. This quest didn’t fill her with quite so much dread as the last herd quest had or her personal quest did. Look for colourful rocks? That was absolutely something easier than denying healing or destroying a thicket populated with a sweet sounding, magical deer.
Those thoughts and memories were not welcome today - not when she stood on a beautiful island with a potential new friend.
“I am, actually. I need to find a colourful stone or two.” Her gaze flickered from him to the ground around her, confirming that there was nothing that stood out where they were standing. But her gaze was drawn back to the stranger before long, her tone light and friendly as she asked “Would you like to help me look?”
His interest immediately peaked at the mention of, ”colourful stones”. He enjoyed many things in life, from spending time with his family to flying and exploring new places. But as odd as it was, nothing brought him quite as much pleasure as simple and menial tasks that appealed to the child in his heart. He could certainly be doing more productive things with his time than helping a stranger search for plain old rocks (albeit colourful ones), but at the time, there was nothing he wanted to do more.
A broad grin split across his face and he nodded eagerly. “Of course! I’d be happy to help you.” He had noticed many rocks scattered about the beaches as he had been flying over them, and certainly some of them ought to be colourful, though it was hard to tell from the height he flew at. A quick glance around the shallows near them confirmed that no stones fitting her description were within their immediate vicinity, but he knew they would not be too hard to find.
He began wading up the shore until he stood on the sand beside her, turning toward the east to follow the edge of the water in search of stones. He did not wait for her to lead the way, as he perhaps should have, as it was her quest after all. But his excitement carried him forward with the expectation that she would follow. “I’m Murdock, by the way. Might I ask what you need these colourful stones for?” Perhaps she was creating a collection. Or, more likely, these stones had some purpose.
By her scent, he could tell she was from The Edge. It was a place he had called home for a regrettably short time, and he felt he had left a piece of his heart there when he left. It had not entirely been by choice, although he himself had decided to leave, but at the time he had not been in the correct frame of mind to be an asset to them and felt he was a burden upon the group he lovingly called a family.
“You’re from the Edge?” He asked as he stepped over the sand, scanning the foaming tide for signs of any rocks that fit the description of what they searched for. A few grey ones were visible beneath the rippling water, but they weren’t nearly attractive enough to catch his eye. He glanced back at her, eagerly awaiting whatever news she had to share of his former home and silently remarking to himself how fortunate he was to stumble upon such good company on his little excursion.
