Well, this hadn’t happened in some time now. Along with the joy of realizing what was happening to her body rose a twisting, aching fear. It had been three years since Naerys had been born and her daughter’s birth was rough - not only for her, but for the young filly as well. She hadn’t been breathing when she had first come into the world.

Now, Alysanne was older - would her body still be up for the struggles of birthing? She didn’t feel old.

It was all rather too late to start worrying about this now. Not only had she been dreaming about having another child ever since the Basin’s festival last year when she had her fortune told, but she had made a few new friends - either one of whom could’ve been the cause of the swelling of her sides. It didn’t trouble her overly much that she wasn’t exactly sure who the father was - she had to admit she was hopeful that when the child did arrive, she would be able to tell. Artorius and Naerys had both turned out to be such perfect blends of her and their fathers, it stood to reason that this foal (or foals!) would be no different.

Her wings were folded against her sides, though even those limbs were beginning to be inadequate to hide her current state. She wandered slowly through the woods, the morning mists thick around the trunks of the trees and swirling as she moved. Hemlock flew nearby, hovering over her with worry. The foal would be coming soon and they were both on edge - each passing day causing them to feel worse and worse. She knew she should go find one of the healers, discuss what she was worried about and see if they would be available if troubles should arise.

She should.

But instead she felt her worries and apprehension grow as thick as the Edge’s mist in her mind, clouding her thoughts and making it difficult to be rational.

Cloaked and collared, the lantern-lit stag drifted throughout the mist and tree trunks of his humble home. It was a place he had come to love deeply even in the colder seasons when Father Sun did not shine as brightly - he still had his lantern as his own personal star and Peatree his follower and friend.
The Doctor had risen before the dawn as he always did, scouted the borders for any signs or scents of dear Arah, before he'd made his way down the gullies and over creeks towards the glade that enveloped the garden and greenhouse. The gent's paces were stopped however; by a ghostly figure among the trees. Primarily the stag was unsure just which of their two magpie-coloured queens it was who strode through the mist, wings dragging and hung over stretched skin. Alysanne... though it seemed she was not entirely alone.

New life did not often frighten the flaxen father, though it would always be a concern of the priestly man when a woman bore a child without a mate. This was an ideal that changed and was tested often, having warped and broken with his own fallings. It was something soon pushed to the back of his mind by new concerns as his paces picked up, taking steps to follow the woman. She was not particularly youthful any longer. Birthing at her age was sure to come with great complications, even the worst.

While his feet begged him to stay put behind the trees, away from the mare he slightly feared, his heart told him to stride forth. Indescicion gripped at his heart, digging it's icy claws in as Peatree flew on ahead (having seen hemlock, he would attempt to catch up to him).
"TILNAY!" the bat bleated through their tight bond "come you!".
Shaking his cranium, Tilney gave a gruff snort as his decision was practically made for him.

"Alysanne" he came to coo through the mist, taking longer steps in an attempt to reach her quickly. "You look... exhausted" this was all he managed to utter as he tried to hide his glance over her awkwardly strung wings. As he did, the worry began to subside and excitement gripped him, a wide smile falling upon his maw. "A new life. How exciting" He whispered, lantern light crooning over the expectant mother.

As if called by her thoughts, the herd’s resident Moon Doctor appeared through the mists. The sight of Tilney did not exactly ease her nerves, but it didn’t make them any worse. It had been a very long time since she had spent any time one-on-one with the antlered stallion, and she knew very much that his expertise was exactly what she needed right now. Hemlock felt apprehensive too but, upon spying Peatree, hooted his delight at spotting a fellow flighted companion and it wasn’t even a dragon! The small owl swooped around, hoping to encourage the bat into a small game of chase.

A laugh escaped Alysanne at Tilney’s greeting - instantly cutting into the tension that she felt and utterly lighthearted. Far from being insulted, she knew it was true. “I feel it too.” Her laughter faded into a soft smile, light and easy.

At his next words, her wings shuffled a little - but their movements were just as awkward as the way they hung at her sides. She had been prepared for the uncomfortable feeling, she had been in this situation before, but remembering how uncomfortable it was and actually living it again where two totally different things. “Yes, I’m very excited…” Her smile started to fade then, her green eyes shifting away from him. “But a little afraid too.” She confessed quietly, hating this weakness but knowing that her silence could cause more problems. “Naerys’ birthing was so hard… and I was younger then.”
