Laughter, sweet and infectious, would float on the wind and seem to beckon her. Wherever she was in Helovia, the tug of the sound would bring her here - to the Deep Forest. There was still warmth in the sunlight on this afternoon, brightened even more so, maybe, because of the sound the wind carried.

Within the woods, the laughter would grow louder, leading Lyanna to one spot. It wasn’t quite a clearing, but the trees were a little more spacious here than they were in other spots - the coniferous trees giving way to deciduous leaves. This deep in the season, the trees in this area were all vibrantly dressed - oranges, reds, and golden yellows that burned like fire in the afternoon sunlight.

But the laughter wasn’t coming from the trees, or the wind, although it might seem like it. Leaves were falling in bunches, the trees shaking here and there and the movement was accompanied by new peels of laughter. Shadows darted among the canopy, but whatever was enjoying the warm sunlight was unwilling to show themselves just yet. They were waiting, waiting for her to arrive, and for now they were simply enjoying their game.

let the winds erase me,

like the memory of a kiss

So many things tug her to this place, the Deep Forest. Though the Edge was her first home in Helovia (and perhaps would be her only), the Deep Forest had been the beginning of her life here really. The place had the power to draw her back with memories of a boy and his cat, both of whom offered hope through smiles and the ruby that now hung around her neck. It was a simple piece of jewelry really, nothing compared to the jewels she once wore, but it is perhaps her favorite. Her old jewelry had always matched, gold and black and teal like the ear cuff she still wears. The ruby matches nothing; not the moon horn that hangs around her neck as well, resting against her shoulder; not the cuff that is the only piece of her past she still carries. The ruby is different, and it is what makes it beautiful to her. The ruby is hope, even if only she knows that.

Today though, it is no memories of a love of the forest that draws her. It is laughter. The sound is sweet and infectious, lilting and beautiful, like a woman laughing at her love or children playing a game of tag. She remembers Erthe, their game of tag leaving them lost in the depths of this forest. The trees are dense and the world is nearly black too far into the woods, but they had made it out together, each offering their own skills to make the other better. She can almost imagine Erthe darting through the trees as she approaches the forest, and Lyanna wonders where her friend has gone. Another name of the list of those she had lost.

The trees of the forest are familiar, thinner this far on the edge of the forest, and she slips into their embrace without worry. The laughter calls her, growing louder as she follows the unseen path created by the sound. It felt, strangely, like this moment was for her, though certainly others heard the laughter too? Perhaps she simply felt that way because for the moment, she was alone and happy. Strange, to realize that she was happy. Worry weighed on her always, uncertainty and doubt plagued her, but she felt at home for once and that, that was enough.

The day, the trees, and her mood as all beautiful and alive. The sun is shining and warm for a late Orangemoon day. The leaves of the trees dance with the fire of their dying days. She is happy, and that is still so strange. Then, she finds the spot that laughter was leading. How she knows this is the right place is hard to say, but she knows. The leaves fall too quickly and the trees shake, shadows darting about in the canopy above. She can’t tell what those shadows are. It’s possible it’s simply some wildlife playing in the beautiful day, and knowing Helovia, it’s possible it’s something else entirely. Her teal eyes follow them, wondering, curious and on edge all at once.
