Safiri
Her world has become godless, the princess' kingdom is now a fairy tale, a story to weave when tucking in your children - her father had stepped down, and that is when she lost her title of Edge Princess, and now there is no Edge at all. Safiri feels it in the emptiness of her chest, the pressure of the Moon's presence slipping from within the mist, light and airy - gone. She left on a whim, in a subtle panic that has left the child timid, because she suddenly does not know what more lurks beyond her cave, what the world has become while she is stowed away like a valuable treasure, hidden and safe until something slips up and runs across her space - and what will she do then?

Spring green settles on Auni, on the golem that remains dead still at her side while she lays there in her empty cave. Her mother has been going out more often, almost as though she's avoiding revealing the swell of her sides - Safiri is still a child, she still believes her mother is simply gaining winter weight to be shed in the spring, not that she is bearing another set of twins for the Elephant. Soon, she will no longer be the youngest, the baby of the family, she will be a middle child, the one who drifts off into the background and resides where they will only remember her once and a while when they see a sparkle of ivory or gold - she will not be their prized child anymore.

She is wholly unaware of this conspiracy, too focused on taking baby steps outside of her cave in hopes that she will find something to distract her from the anxiety of the looming disaster, the end so keenly ghosting over the land of Helovia as it draws closer. Auni pursues the ivory babe with the same enthusiasm she wears on her features, keeping up despite the significant size difference - they are a peculiar pair, ex princess with her faulty heart and fatigue worn so elegantly over her young body, ivory buffalo sturdy and silent, loyal and passionate in the pursuit of the child. In reality, it is barely sentient, simply following her command to follow, but she sometimes thinks she catches glimpses of feeling in its hollow eyes.

The two weave through trees with calculated steps, Safiri measuring which route through the trees would be the least strenuous on her petite heart, already feeling it thump heavily beneath her breast as she quickens her pace subtly. As she brings a dark hoof forward, she catches on something - a root, a fallen branch, a bush, a rock? - her steps falter and shes tumbling down into the firm dirt, caught mid air and falling down. Startled and upset as her knees ache from the fall and swell from her landing, her brows narrow as she turns back to look at what it is tripped her.

All is forgotten when she instead sees a pale, splotched object tucked beneath the tangled roots of a tree. The roots were the culprit, but their crime was forgiven in light of the discovery, focus settled on the smooth surface of the hidden egg. Safiri stands up, shakes off, and approaches the egg with hesitance, glancing to Auni as though the golem would offer some sort of encouragement as she reaches forward for the egg. Her lips fall to it, a gentle prod against its speckled surface, such a slight touch as though she's afraid to stir whatever's inside. Immediately, a small crack splits the egg, and Safiri gasps, a wave of guilt pulling her under as she thinks that perhaps the touch was too much and it was all her fault that it cracked - green hovers over the surface, watching the web of cracks grow in number, worsening as they soon cover a third of the egg entirely, heart racing as she watches closely.

Pieces scatter around the egg, wet on one side, dry on the other, as a small, damp nose sticks out of a hole in the side - the lamb is in awe, her knees are weak as the fatigue washes over her, but her focus is all on the animal struggling to escape the egg as it pushes and stretches, forming more cracks. It takes several moments more for the creature to finally break free, spilling out of the egg and onto the ground with small grunts, helpless and blind. Safiri gazes down upon the blotchy black bundle, reaching forward to give it a comforting touch so it knows it was not born alone, only this touch meant more than she had intended.

It's a feeling she doesn't expect, the tying of two souls into one complete whole, not the emptiness of Auni or the emotion of her family - but a bond that goes above everything else, they are suddenly the only two things in the world, the only beings that matter, and Safiri is bewildered and breathless. She knows what it is subconsciously, knows that just like her father and Mbwene and her mother and Marembo, she feels herself tied up with the wet pup at her hooves, knows that now they are forever bound - "Haki, karibu."
"Talk."
