Talsia tossed his firey red mane defiantly at the wind, mocking it, as it had once mocked him in his sorrow over the loss of his half brother and his home. It had seemed to mock him for not having a herd, a family, for not respecting himself, and for being the cause of his half brother's death, as he thought he was the cause, although he was not. It was not his fault that his mother had favored his brother more than himself. But fair, patient, and once-trusting Talsia had loved his brother dearly all the same, not being jealous at all, as his mother had coldly hoped him to be. And even when she attempted to kill him, he held no grudge with his brother or her, for that matter. He just stayed out of her way. But when Talsia had witnessed her unintentionally kill his half brother, it was just too much. She had sent a ruthless killer out to scare Talsia away, so he would never come back, but the murderer had other thoughts, and he used his companion tiger to try to kill Talsia. Mortar, Talsia's half brother, had stepped in front of Talsia to save him, and the wild cat had leeched onto Mortar, sinking its claws into his heart, and giving Talsia a deep scar on his right shoulder, a scar for life. But their was worse pain than a wound he had been burdened with. He was still grieving the loss of everything he was, everything he had been. Now Talsia wanted to move on. He wanted to forgive and forget, but he couldn't. The thing he could do was find a new life, a herd, a mate, a family. And that was why he was here. He was going to confront the leader of the World's Edge herd, and ask him humbly if he could be a protector. Talsia was starting over.

Was it the mists of the land that whispered to her? Or the faithful shadows whom had been her company since the dark, moonlit night that she was born? The dark mare stood within the heart of her lands, allowing the foggy air to wash over her. The discussion she had with Hellena had settled some thing in her mind; she had found a comfort in the words of the seer, despite learning nothing more than a passive acceptance of her leadership. It was pleasant, at the very least, to finally meet a being whose loyalties were firmly entrenched in the lore of the lands, one who was not swayed by influences of the outside. It was interesting, then, to observe that the mare would not defend her home against intruders, even if it risked her losing her title - but then, the title of Seer was one a Leader only had partial influence over. The Lady Luna, Goddess of the Moon, was the one whom made the final call there, and it was obviously a fitting choice; Mirage was foolish to ever doubt that her beloved Goddess would choose one to fill such a prestigious rank on a mere whim.

As the mare settled into her thoughts, she reflected upon the curious trails of the mists before her, wondering what it was they were trying to tell her. She was no Seer herself, she could not read them with the expertise of Hellena, rather, she relied on a sense of niggling unease to inform her that something was different. With this sensation directing her, the little shadow mare travelled to the borders of her land, and registered a new scent upon her nares.

The stallion was crimson in hue, at least the strands of his mane and tail were. His bodice was stained a darker, cocoa colour, his horn as vibrant as a ruby. The golden eyes of the femme drank this all quickly, as her dark form came to a stop in his path, hindering any thoughts the other might have of venturing further into the lands uninvited.

"Hello." She spoke quietly, allowing the mists of the lands to carry her exotic whisper to the ears of the unicorn. "You stand upon the borders of the World's Edge." The information was perhaps something he already knew; many recently had come to the lands with the knowledge of the new government in place, seeking a place in a new herd, a fresh start, a path that could lead any to further greatness.

"What is it you seek?" The question was directly given, the accented tones of the belle clear and somewhat sharp against the soft, misty environment they stood in. Piercing, all-seeing eyes of liquid gold bored into his own, as if she could see his very soul if she stared long enough.

Talsia was baffled and surprised as not a stallion, but a mare, obviously the herd leader, stepped into his path. A mare! Leading the Edge? It was preposterous! His deep brown cheeks turned red, and reddish brown eyes, alive with sparks of yellow, met eyes of pure gold, glittering charmingly at him. The mare had a dark coat, as well as a dark air about her, although he had probably misread her. She asked him what he seeked. He threw his head up, and straightened his back. Talsia was now up to his full height; a small stallion of 14.3. Talsia had always resented his small height, though he acted much bigger, and at six years of age, he knew more about the world than someone would think. "I seek a place in the Word's Edge herd, as a protector. I am Talsia, and you must be the leader." Talsia's eyes flashed, and he waited for an answer. Hopefully the mare would allow him a place in the herd.
