Xanthos
I will live for you
before I die

This place was rightfully named. The expanse of water stretched on further than the eye could see, and if not for Frostfall, it would have been an even more beautiful sight to behold. The scent of others was thick here, and he coudl only imagine how much different it would be here during the warmer seasons.

The distance from the Thistle Meadow to the sandy coast was not terribly far, and it would be a lie to say that Xanthos had not enjoyed the race between himself and the Haflinger he had met on his way. While she was quite a deal shorter than him, she had still made a run for his money, but the grullo did not care who won in the end. The simple chance to spend time away from Frostbreath was enjoyable in itself, and even more so now that he had someone else at his side. Frostfall was nearing an end, and ever so slowly, Xanthos could feel the nip of the frigid air growing more and more dull every day.

When his hooves met the sandy beach, he felt the ground give under his weight, and while it did slow him down, it wouldn't stop him. The stallion's ears flattened against his head as he gave a buck and kicked out, sending sand everywhere and back at the palomino mare. The act was anything but threatening, however, for this was all in good fun. The salty air was a welcoming feeling in his dark mane, and for a moment, he felt as if he were a colt once more.

"Isn't this great?" The unicorn called back to Romani, "If only there were places like this back home!"

While she had eagerly engaged Xanthos into a race, Romani by no means cared who came out victorious. Their run from the Thistle Meadow to the Endless Blue was filled with much laughter and talk, as well as competitive teasing, and the mare found herself enjoying the grullo’s company the longer she was in it. She was glad that she has asked him to accompany her.

Following the stallion onto the beach with a laugh, the Haflinger tossed her mane to free the sand that had collected there, courtesy of her companion’s buck. Giving a delighted whinny, Romani increased her speed, galloping next to the unicorn. While the chill of Frostfall was still present, the warmer weather of the oncoming spring was doing wonders for her spirit, and even though she normally tried to hold herself in mature dignity, the only thing Romani found she wanted to do was frolic through the waves with this handsome stallion.

“It’s wonderful!”Romani called back, azure eyes filled with a playful delight, “It’s been ages since I’ve been in a place like this!”

Slowing her pace from the fast gallop she had been at, the equine eased to a leisurely trot, chest heaving as she attempted to catch her breath. While fit, running for such a long time caused a light sheen of sweat to mar her red coat. Turning her head to gaze out across the ocean, there was nothing the mare could to do remove the smile from her lips. It had been a long time since she had been this happy and satisfied… Xanthos was good to be around, she surmised.

Inhaling deeply through her nostrils, Romani turned her compact body around so that she was facing the stallion, and collecting herself, reared up at him. It was playful, of course, her hooves hitting nothing but air. “You’re pretty fast,” She said with a jovial nicker, her front hooves disturbing the sand beneath her once they landed back onto the ground. A small plumb of grains puffed into the air, settling back down merely moments after being disrupted. “We’ll have to have a rematch once I’ve caught my breath. What do you say?”

Elizabeth
the fallen

Elizabeth watched the grullo closely, only for the sake of the Plague. She felt he wasn't as true as she hoped so in courtesy of Psyche she did her duty. Catching particular interest in his new friend. Her lips curled in disgust. She spat at the ground and angrily slapped her tail to her haunches. From a distance she gathered in the looks of the small red lesser he accompanied. When the two stopped she began to hastily pick to a full gait run. Head wildly flopping in the air. Ears pinned to her neck as hard as they could get. Long forelock tangling in with her spiral horn that was held straight out in battle mode. Muzzle tucked in and silver eyes set on the mare. A wild battle cry exiting from her throat.

Black hooves sliding to a quick stop. "We," she addressed him as apart of the plague without naming them for the sake of secrecy "do not find company in the presence of the lesser, especially company that makes you so giddy." venomous tones scratching at her vocals. Blood boiling beneath her surface. Standing tall and proud, putting the two creatures in front of her in their place. If they watched close enough they could see the blood pulsating hastily through her veins. "So fool" a merciless growl escaping her cavities, "pick your side, either way you will be punished." a promise within her mind.

A wild snort escaping her nares. Elizabeth glanced at Xanthos, a dare if you will, as she proceeded to the red Halflinger. Horn protruding from her face. Tip driving directly for the center of Romani's cranium, "You run or die." teeth snapping at the air madly. Complete brute force against small brute force. In reality Elizabeth had this fight all for the win, whether or not Romani put up a good fight. The minute Xanthos steps in she was close enough now to turn and stab his chest, driving her spiral blood thirsty horn into his chest. Silver eyes still harshly stuck on Romani. Walking ever so closer to her by the minute.

Xanthos
I will live for you
before I die

Shifting his weight, Xanthos found himself towering above the ground on his haunches, throwing his head back and striking out at the mare. Any contact that they might have made was light and posed little threat to the other. Dropping back to the earth, the grullo evened himself back out before returning his yellow gaze to the palomino. Words could not describe the joy he felt at that moment.

But like all good things that came to the stallion, it all seemed to come crashing down in a moment's notice.

Before he could even muster a reply to Romani, the sound of a third pair of hoofbeats rang clear in his ears. Immediately Xanthos could feel his blood running cold, for these were not the hoofbeats of another eager soul ready to join them in their carefree time on the beach. No, these were heavy, purposeful strides coming towards them, and with one look towards the silver mare hurdling their way, Xanthos knew that he was in trouble.

Instinctively the stallion took a step or two closer to Romani before Elizabeth came sliding to a stop before them, placing her horn dangerously close to the newly acquainted Foothills mare. Xanthos was already well aware that the other unicorn would not hesitate to plunge that horn right through the palomino, and if it meant putting himself between the mares to stop it, then he would. "Elizabeth," he spoke after finding his words, uncertain on what he could say that wouldn't upset his fellow Plaguer further. Upon noticing that the mare was growing ever so closer to Romani, the grullo sucked in a deep breath and dared to step forward, readily putting himself in the path of danger.

"You should go back home now," he said simply, words directed to Romani, "Please." He kept from speaking her name, however, for it might serve use to Elizabeth at a later time. Keeping his yellow eyes locked upon Elizabeth, he waited for either to react, hoping, praying that Romani would listen to him and return to the Foothills without trouble.

The seemingly perfect, high-spirited moment was broken by the sound of thundering hooves and a shrill battle cry. Romani’s head whipped towards the sound, taking in the large mass of the mare galloping their way. Who she was, the Haflinger had no idea, but immediately the mare took stock of the swirled horn adorning the silver one’s head. A unicorn, she was, and it took less than a second for the palomino to recall the words Xanthos had told her back at the Thistle Meadow about Frostbreath and the unruly unicorns who resided there.

‘… The unicorns there are almost as bitter as the very grass of which we eat.’ Was this, perhaps, one of the unicorns that lived in Frosbreath?

Before she could speak, the silver mare was upon them, horn poised far too dangerously close for Romani’s liking. The words of this unknown mare made no sense to the Haflinger, and she looked frantically between this demanding creature and Xanthos, unsure of what she should say. Was there anything she could say? Regardless, she wouldn’t back down without defending herself. It was then that the grullo placed a name to the newcomer; Elizabeth.

“I’m not lesser.” Romani growled out, azure eyes narrowed dangerously, but before she could say any more, Xanthos had moved his larger frame in front of her, to protect her from bodily harm. From the look in Elizabeth’s eyes, there was no doubt in the Haflinger’s mind that she would kill her if given the chance, yet… Romani found that she didn’t want to leave the handsome grullo stallion, especially in the clutches of someone so cruel, fearing what might happen to him if she left. However, it didn’t seem to matter, for Xanthos demanded her to leave, albeit obviously hesitantly.

“Xanthos,” she murmured, eyes troubled as she looked between the two of them once again, “I…” It was a struggle, agreeing to such, but Romani knew that her presence there might make things worse. Still, she couldn’t help but worry… Would she even ever see Xanthos again? They had known each other for such a short time, yet the thought of never seeing him again bothered Romani far more than she imagined it would.

Taking a step back, the Foothills mare finally relented, shooting one fleeting look of dismay to the grullo unicorn. “Fine. Xanthos, I… Take care.” Turning on her haunches, the palomino mare whipped around at a brisk trot, shooting a dangerous glare at Elizabeth as she moved past them, intending to head back home to the Foothills.

Elizabeth
the fallen

She could feel the tensions in Xanthos' feelings rise. As his eyes locked on her face. He knew he was in trouble and she knew he knew, all in all he dug himself a hole. A deep hole it would take time for him to dig out. Addressing her she watched his lips move, she watched for any quiver or shake of disappointment, "Can you feel it in your bones, brother? Can you feel the traitor within you?" eyes danced to Romani roughly, "You bare bitch! You are nothing but less!" Elizabeth continued moving forward. The step Xanthos took forward only ensued her rage further. Heavy neck arched as she turned sideways. Pushing her haunches and throwing her weight further "For a pure to die is hurtful, a traitor doesn't matter!" she screamed.

Horn hurled for the grullo's neck. The tendor underside where his throat hung. Elizabeth felt no pitty for him, his respect was lost. Her eyes drank in his color and she hoped to contact with his hide. Surely he could not reverse fast enough to dodge the attack completely. As Romani glided past her Elizabeth sunk her front hooves to the sand floor. She could feel the burn as the tiny grains held friction under her. She swiveled around and snapped her teeth. All weight on her front legs in motion to lash out at Xanthos if he began to motion forward. Elizabeth prepared herself to barrel forwards. Ears still flattened against her chest, she turned her nares to Xanthos, "You've foolishly granted yourself your own position of lesser within us." head turned back to the open area, watching the distant Halflinger walk, "If you dare return to Xanthos' side, not only will he be executed but yourself too!" cruel tones picking at her. Would the stallion dare to fuel the flame again?

Xanthos
I will live for you
before I die

At the forefront of the stallion's mind was Romani's safety. He knew that the mare was not weak, but he would not allow for a fight to ensue between her and Elizabeth. This was his fault, after all. Even as the palomino spoke, Xanthos remained quiet, knowing that to speak meant a certain flare in Elizabeth's rage. Only when Romani had decided to turn and head back for home did the grullo feel the slightest relief, for at least she could get away safely. For him, however, it seemed that it might end differently.

He did not quake at her words, instead standing his ground, as foolish of a move as it might have been. Despite her words, he knew that not once had he proclaimed loyalty to the Plague. "If you will have me, Psyche, I will join you and the others to gain back the Edge." That is what he had said the day Elizabeth led him into Frostbreath to meet with the dark mare Psyche, and what he had said, he had met. While Xanthos did not agree with their views, he did intend to help reclaim The Edge. Perhaps it was his own views that were skewed, but for now, he had other things to worry about.

When Elizabeth came at him, horn poised and aimed skillfully at his neck, the grullo did his best to pivot on his haunches and turn away from the attack, but it was impossible to avoid it completely considering their closeness. The horn pierced into his neck, causing a flury of pain to erupt through his body. Luckily, the deadly point had not made contact with the softer underside of his neck, therefore missing the precious artery and windpipe. It might have torn muscle, but the stallion was still standing, and at least Romani was still safe.

Now that the darker mare seemed to stop in her attack, Xanthos took a step back from her to show that he did not wish to continue the fight and let loose a sharp exhale. He was unsure whether to speak or not, and held Elizabeth's gaze for a moment before he spoke. "... If you wish to take me back, then so be it."

Elizabeth
the fallen

Elizabeth did not care if his loyalty was within the plague or not, his loyalty was with Psyche and his respect would be shown to Elizabeth as she is now his new commander in battle. "Take you back? Why so you may learn about us and trade our secrets with the kinds like her?" she smartly added. Rightfully staking her claim in keeping the secrecy. It dies with him or he is chanced again. "You are under my command, I am your Corporal do you understand fool?" with that she turned and began to walk. Proudly following in the trail back home. The way she had come from. To return to Psyche with the news. She had no intentions of having Xanthos assist her back home. The first time she brought him home proudly now she was in nothing but disappointment. To bring him back would make her feel a mere fool. Her whole cause was within the Plague. When she brought him back she introduced him to the Plague and Psyche welcomed him to their group. Though she did not welcome him within the ranks of the ex-Edge. That was Mauja's duty. So truly he did not understand the devotion he made to Psyche and her racist group.

Xanthos was confused. All twisted. He was accepted within Psyche's ranks, the Plague, not anything but. Elizabeth knew this and her sharp mind was keen to remember. "Make your own way home, I do not wish to find your presence like I once sought." a guilt trip he should take to heart. Whether he would come back or not, she cared less of. His choice. Though he would be given a harder time by Elizabeth. For her respect for him was far gone. Swiftly she began to trot. A soft gallop exploded as she sent across the turf. Sweat still leaking from her. Not angered but annoyed she made her way back to the Steppe, to Psyche. Xanthos had the option to follow at a distance or make his way back when he gained the courage. Though Elizabeth's mindset was on Romani. She would find out the information of this petty little mare. Already her scents of the Foothills had made one clue the next few couldn't be too hard.

[ooc- Sparrow, hope you don't mind I skipped you but I figured since she left the scene you were done posting.]
