Spring was finally coming to the land and with it a looming darkness. Heart tightened when a black sun arose from the hills, his eyes glanced at it with fearful wondering. Wings had closed over Cera protectively, but he couldn’t shield the child permanently. Gaze turned to the unhatched ivory that lay close by in the makeshift cradle he had fashioned from day one. Something…felt wrong. Rising with quick shakes Midas turned toward the Vein, and the hovel of his lord. The promised day had come, today was his day to return and see the weight of collar lifted. Joy should have filled his chest, but—half dread came instead.

Something was amiss.

Land fell beneath him; powerful beats led the beast on. Each thrust more earnest than the next, soon the familiar territory of his childhood and adult comfort came into sight. Its darkened colors and haunting beauty usually a blanket of safety and knowledge, today that blanket felt thin and unwashed. His love and faith was as strong as wind and sky—it was only the fear of unknown that caused trembling in a mortal heart.

Gliding to a halt, hooves stirred up dust in landings wake. Honeyed orbs finding the threshold of his lord’s mantle as limbs closed distance between. He hadn’t come to this place during Frostfall all that much, instead choosing Heavenly field or Thistle meadow to commence in prayer and meditation. Now that he was here, brow touched the cool stonework of his lord like child rubbing against beloved parent.

OOC: Midas is just returning to get his armor lightened and easier to remove.

The God of the Earth smiled jovially when he caught the familiar sight of black and white land on the ledge of the shrines. Rather unexpectedly, the great god was already standing there, watching the land through deep, emerald eyes. Everything concerning the nature of the companions and their bonds being disrupted was disconcerting, and he felt grim. However, the kind pegasus was always a pleasant sight, so he regarded the mortal warmly.

"You have lasted thus far with the weight of your armor, I see", he said, seeing the silver collar sit wrapped around the stallion's neck. "I assume that you are here to have the weight removed." The God of the Earth knew that he had waited long enough and flew for far enough to feel the weight of death upon his back. Death is what he could bring wearing such a a glorious set of plated protection.

Water, warm with the heat of the sun, began to bubble from the metal, thinning the plates without decreasing their strength. A crease began to form around the center, gold stone in the middle of his chest, and the round section turned into a mechanical button that would pop the collar from his neck. "All you have to do is tuck your chin to your chest and press the center and the collar will be removed," he explained. "However, you will still require help to get the pieces back on, but now that it is of lighter weight, most will be able to help."

"When the armor is fully encasing your body, I cannot affect its weight. Magic always comes with a price," he repeated justly. "However, the collar will no longer bear the full weight of all the metal pieces. Use the armor wisely, Midas."

A presence was felt—almost before forelock met cool stone. Weary, half cracked gaze opened to behold the one person his whole faith and fortitude relied upon. Calm fell over him and worry was washed clean from tired soul like a refreshing bath, a sigh formed—not of grievance or exhaustion; a sigh of pure reverence and gratitude. Could his lord feel the nearly painful love he held for the divine being? Love that had been fashioned by a steadfast dam, and carried on through a son of his own.

Midas met the great one with a responding smile, needing no words to fill the moment between them. Ebony head bowed a fraction until his lord began to speak, "You have lasted thus far with the weight of your armor, I see,” shoulder flexed automatically, testing the weight of his burden, "I assume that you are here to have the weight removed.” A rhetorical question, his lord knew the answer; and everything else about wandering souls such as his. Still, the throat general responded softly as he dared, “Yes ma ’lord,” gaze trailed up to stare upon the masterwork physique.

A soft movement trailed under his collar, warming skin and fur alike. Alive, the liquid shimmered beneath his scales of silver. Wherever water flowed weight followed and fled. A short gasp emerged as neck rose without strain, muscles seemed to sigh out a relieving moan of their own. Tempered winter flesh wasn’t used to such freedom. A beam emerged, momentarily intrigued and caught up in amazing unearthly power. Again his lord spoke, velvet perked to listen curiously. Head automatically bent experimentally, however muzzle remained far from said, ‘button.’ Wordless for a moment, he listened to all else with a more serious expression filtering forward, “Use the armor wisely, Midas.”

Solemnly the lad uttered, “I will always try to be worthy of the honor to wear this creation.” He, like all creatures tried. Stumbling was to be expected, and Midas would stumble; just as all did. But he would try to keep any faltering to a minimum. Summoning courage to ask a curious question while his lords ear was still tuned in, “Lord,” brow furrowed, “A black sun rose above our land…..is there anything I can do to help or prepare for what is to come?” Perhaps it meant nothing……
