Lynx
Hope and pray that you never need me, but rest assured I will not let you down.

The desert looms before the buckskin stallion and his tall companion, the air above the golden sand shimmering with heat. To some, the land may appear intimidating, but to Lynx it is home. He wonders how Pluto views the Throat, and glances back at the blue dusted girl. She is not the first wanderer he has led to the arid herdland, and likely not the last, but already he is somewhat fond of the pegasus. He is certain that the herd will accept her with open arms as well, for so far he had yet to see anyone be turned away.

Warmth wraps around him as hoof meets sand, soothing the tense flesh surrounding the black spear puncturing his face, easing the ever-present ache into something more bearable, replacing pain with simple discomfort. Frostfall had not been kind to the scarred stallion, and his thin frame was just beginning to fill out again, though his horn forced him to remain somewhat gaunt. Still, he has recovered well due to the heat of the sun in this place.

He halts a few feet in, giving Pluto a chance to look around, take in her new surroundings without worrying about being left behind by her guide. He doubts that many get such a chance, ushered to the oasis without the opportunity to get their bearings in the vast desert. Lynx, however, prefers to let those he brings home to look around, get a feel for the land, before he takes them further in. It seems only polite, and they will reach the oasis eventually, whether they rush or not. It will simply take a bit longer.

The sudden change of texture underfoot caused Pluto to have to lengthen her stride. It was no hard for her though, she had had, perhaps,to much practice working on what she could do with her stride. Weather that would be lengthening it,into a extended pace,or shortening it to a collected pace. Each she could do well if smooth, flowing movements. She had taught herself every move in the book-including side trotting and turning on her haunches at more speed then others could.

Looking round all she could see was endless sand dunes. A vast, plain land stretched out in front of her. Golden sand grain swirled round her hoofs, getting in the gaps of where her frog was. Dragging her hoofs gracefully along the sand, drawing a long thin line, she turned to face Lynx. She trotted forward at a collected trot, but she didn't stop when she got to Lynx, instead she carried on, stretching out the tips of her wings and stroking them over his back. Her eyes were fixed back, watching his head for a reaction. She glided round him,not bothering to keep away from his back, trusting him not to kick out. Brushing past his tail, turning till she was side him facing the same way. Flirtiness creeping into her actions."It is beautiful Lynx." She shook her beautiful head high in the air,her mane souring above her head and landing on the left. "What are the others around her like?"

"blah blah blah."

Pluto moves gracefully around him, an effortless glide that leaves him feeling like a clumsy ox rather than a unicorn. The feathers of her wings gently brush over his back, an unusual sensation, but not unpleasant. Somewhat baffled by her actions, he looks questioningly at the girl. Was she just being friendly, or could she actually be flirting with him? Uncertain on how to react, he just shifts his weight awkwardly. Why would someone bother with him, with his small stature and maimed skull? Suddenly, he is keenly aware of his grotesque appearance, the horn cruelly ripping through flesh and bone, the thick masses of scar tissue that have grown around it, starkly pale against his golden fur.

Yet, she stands next to him without disgust, shaking her mane and commenting on the beauty of the desert. He nods slightly in agreement, for it really is a lovely place, but hesitates at the following question. The others he has met were kind, but how is he to convey the message without a voice. In the end, all he can do is shrug and offer an apologetic smile. He hardly knows the residents anyway, spending more time in the Threshold than within herd boundaries.
