Levi's hooves pressed into the soft, grainy sands that carried him towards the middle of Helovia's heart. He was travling from the Throat towards the wondrous ways of the heart. Levi had never really been to the heart before, but he was looking forwards to it, for he had hears lots of stories about it. Midas and he were going to spar, and for surely Levi was excited for this new challenge. Recently he had sparred with Leander, this was great practice for the brute. Leander had accepted him to be a soldier of the Throat, so he would like all the practice, training, and thrills of spars as he could. Midas seemed to a good fighter as well as Leander. Midas was strong looking, a good leader, and seemed to know what he was doing. Levi, couldn't wait for this spar.

Levi’s mane flailed lightly against his sweaty glimmering neck. Lengthening his strides, the rhythm was a perfect sound followed by heavy breaths. A spring scent was in the air, as now everything smelled clean and alive. Levi liked spring a lot, although it wasn’t his favorite time of year, he liked fall and winter. It was easier for him to fly and run without getting as hot and sweaty whereas spring and summer were harder because of the beating hot sun that was always out. Also, not to mention the sweltering temperatures that went with it. Levi just enjoyed the cool days as long as he could.

The thought of the spar popped back into Levi’s mind. He wondered if Midas sparred a lot, and if he did was he a better fighter than Leander? Levi wasn’t scared if Midas was better, but it might be more difficult to take him down if he were going to. That was the fun of it all though!

Fina cooed in what he guessed as displeasure at being jolted around; small body took to resting across his spine and between the feathers of his body. Black talons tightened flesh when sand sunk weight at an angle and threated to jar the babe awake….they had yet to get a rhythmic pattern down to please both. Again he had been called to spar. It was part of his job, and lately the stud had been lacking in official training of others. Kri had called it to attention during the herd meeting and formed a desire to rectify her doubts in abilities. Winter had fled into spring; new buds of flora littered the Oasis. Cool nights ushered their way into a more comfortable day.

He sighed, content to save energy and calmly walk to desired location for their short skirmish.

The heart of Helovia, and the forever burning fire it bore. Legend spoke of gods, particularly the sun god. Though he worshiped only Earth; each lord had their place in his respect. Holy ground wouldn’t have been Midas’s first choice in schooling methods of battle. To the north honeyed orbs could already see the fire, its orange fingers lashing skyward to claim an unearthly position in life. His little phoenix of similar likeness to fire leaned across shoulder, trying to gauge what was ahead with judging, wary eyes.

Seasoned stud came into sight, standing at a distance from their holy flames, Midas smiled warmly in greeting—Fina wanted nothing to do with the situation and instead burrowed deeper in the slight curve of spine ruffling feathers as she did, “Good day brother,” he voice, forcing skull to dip just slightly. Orbs took the spare moment to rake across muscle and built, “Shall we begin?”

Gently Midas twisted neck round to nudge his little sleeper awake and off his back, “You’ll get hurt if you remain there,” he counseled gently, being newly hatched—she was fragile and of a young mind. Colorful wings spread, and not so gracefully flopped body toward the sandy cold ground. Where she preceded to squawk irritant and flap around for a moment before settling at glaring toward ebony company.

“No magic, no need for bonded.”

Walking forward a few paces with neck arching and feathers flaring from his side Midas added with a smile, “Whenever you are ready sir.”

Levi

"Good day brother,” Midas looked around “Shall we begin?” Levi's orbs could only focus on one thing. The rainbow colored bird. It was so beautiful; Levi had never seen such a beautiful bird before. The bird seemed to gracefully cling to Midas, so Levi figured that this must be his companion. Levi had always wanted a companion, but the gods had not accepted his call in the veins. A Midas spoke to the enchanting bird, it seemed to understand and get out of the way so that it wouldn’t get hurt during their brawl. Levi did not know if it was a she or he so he did not say anything to Midas, but he surely would if Midas said its name or something about it.

Trying to size himself to Midas, Levi lightened his features, as he bowed his head slightly to his worthy opponent. The perfect tone of Midas voice rang like a smooth honey as he spoke. Levi kind of wished his voice sounded as clear and perfect as Midas’s did. “Good day to you as well brother.” Levi walked towards him noticing the warmth of the sands now had taken place in the Throat. Last time Levi had spared, he was with Leander. The golden palomino towered over him since he was 17.3 hands. Levi did not like how Leander was so much taller, but in the end they both had tied. Now the darkly shaded brute towered over Midas. He liked being taller than Midas, but he knew that Midas was a much better fighter than he so he figured that Midas would beat him anyway.

“Sure, we might as well. I must say it is an honor sparing with you sir” Levi smiled at his opponent again as he carefully stepped around the grainy sands of the Throat. Levi chuckled, as Midas said that Levi could start the spar. Levi enjoyed how Midas was so kind to him, and did as Midas told him. “Thank you, brother.” He said before he got ready to strike. Rearing Levi let out a loud shriek. Then cantering towards Midas, he lunged at his back left hip. Angling his left leg to kick at it, he attempted. The pure adrenaline rush lingered through his veins. Levi was starting to get into this spar, but he knew for a fact he would lose anyway. Circling around Midas, he tried to confuse him. Suddenly, Levi attempted to ram into his front right shoulder as he passed. He hoped that maybe this would weaken his stance. Then standing still, he waited for Midas to make his move.

(OOC: Oh my gosh Angel I am so sorry for the long reply time! :/ I had a busy holiday... Hope yours went well! :)

Opening post (1/1) (1/2) (0/1)

Levi was a cordial gentleman. Midas smiled at this, nothing favored him more than pleasant conversation and an honest spar with a fellow herdmate. He would rather converse with friends and family all day long, instead of fighting and preparing his command for the bitter art of war. They fought as brothers, and it was upon the sands of sweat and blood that bonds were forged into undying ties.

Ruffled feathers closed along his sides in anxious readiness for their fray to start, the ashy brute was a like a solid tower above his height. The gods had chosen to give our painted general the gift of stocky stature and muscle to make up for what length lacked. Legs widened themselves and pranced frame forward a few steps while an amused smile began to slowly crease a chiseled muzzle.

The Grullo reared, bellowing to the heavens with a warriors cry. Hindquarters tightened with the desire to spring out, hot breath bunched up as a shrill call threatening to escape. He trembled with the amount of control it took to hold back, muscles rippling beneath pelt; collar shimmering when the sun caught golden design just right. Then Levi came. Sprinting headfirst at him in appearance before angling left, neck stretched and lowered skull with lips spreading in a show of gum and ivory.

Head and body twisted to follow as his herd brother passed, dripping jaws widening to land a bite attack along passing side flesh that could be reached. A single kick stung his rear hindquarter; ears sliced along his skull, slight pain whelped where the brute had slapped his butt. Ouch. Spinning ass round as Grullo came in a circle Midas dipped skull to ground.

Forelimbs braced his weight and wings snapped open to strike opponent up across the head or other body part should his kick miss entirely. Both limbs flailed upward scattering granules of hot sand, shoulder muscles contracting to absorb impact. Golden daggers aiming to strike a hopefully exposed flank or belly. Whist spinning and lunging downward Midas heard the whistling of air thrust past flying mane, one ear flicked in wonderance at what had made such a sound. The general hadn’t yet realized he had just narrowly avoided getting rammed in the neck by Levi’s square face.

OCC: Opening post (1/1) (1/2) (0/1)

Attack: Teeth snap at Levi when he passes with hopes of landing an attack on anything past the shoulders and before the hindquaters. Bucks as Levi circles round, wings snap open and have the possibility of hitting Levi should he get to close.

Defense: Legs are braced and balanced while he is bucking. Sturdy.

Injuries: Got slapped in the butt. Might leave a nice hoof shaped mark. <'3

Midas had received the harsh thrash of Levi’s dreadful kick. Twisting his body, Levi had avoided direct contact with Midas’s kick, but still felt a slight pain towards his rib cage area. When Levi circled Midas shockingly, the raven and frost colored stallion then had sliced his neck with his sharp teeth, also blocking the grullo’s vision with his massive wings. Swiftly Levi pushed through Midas’s powerful wings, attempting to throw the right side back, extending the bone the left into the shoulder blade. Thrashing his body weight at him, Levi hoped he might be able to knock him slightly off balance.

An adrenaline rush overcame Levi as he realized how much stronger he had become since his last spar with Leander. Sweat already poured down his now wounded neck, saltiness stung the bloody cut. Muscles and veins bulging with rage, the trickling sweat and runny blood made them glimmer slightly when he stepped into a patch of golden streaking light. His silvery gaze danced with excitement as he watched everything happen right before his eyes.

Levi did not want to injure Midas in the slightest bit, but he knew if he wanted training with someone who would help him get to a more advanced level, then he needed the taste and sight of just plain out blood. Knock some points and learn what to do in case there really was an emergency battle. Levi’s angular body shifted when he suddenly turned his rump towards Midas’s muscular head. He measured it so that he would not hit, but just about be a hooves length from his muzzle. Grains of hot sand pierced through the air, attempting to try and blind Midas’s vision for a slight second. Yes the pain would surely hurt, but Levi really did not want to actually hurt Midas. Midas was too kind hearted of a horse to be injured in anyway and besides, he has his son to take care of. He needed to give more of his protection to his son than Levi.

Levi’s heart pounded with excitement as he waited for his trustworthy brother to strike back. Midas was not some typical spar horse; he was a loving herd mate so therefore it created a whole new look on how this spar was going to play out. It is not for the pure joy of just fighting, it was for the pure peace of perfecting one another’s training with bonding in between as well. Levi’s silvery threaded tail flickered as he grew anxious waiting for his honorable herd mate. Midas was surely a good opponent yes, but would he show Levi something arrogant? Something that Levi could remember throughout the days he lived in the grainy sands.

[OOC: Bahaha! Don’t worry, Midas will leave a nice scar of Levi’s neck in return<3
Opening post (1/1) (2/2) (0/1)

Attack: When Midas trashed out at Levi, he slightly dodged his full out kick, but Midas slightly irritated his rib cage area. Then Midas had sliced Levi’s neck open with his teeth from the momentum on how fast Levi was moving. Swiftly, Levi attempted to extend Midas’s right wing backwards slightly and bump into him so that he might be able to lose balance. Levi next thrashed his legs out a hooves length towards Midas’s muzzle, riping up grains of sand attempting to blind him.

Defense: His broad shoulders are out, ready for any kind of attack. Still and ready tucking his neck in slightly.

Injuries: Got a nice big cut from Midas’s bite and a bruise from his kick.

Both outputs had hit their marks, though much to his disappointment ivory dealt more damage when compared to what hindfeet had managed. Drops of crimson lingered across tongue; it mingled with saliva, turning clear liquid a slight shade of pink. Flavor made quick impression, a bitter combination of copper and musk. The taste was strong enough to make throat constrict and nearly gag a lesser youth; but Midas was no lesser youngling—so he coughed and swallowed the bitterness past sampling buds to a place where it couldn’t be noticed. He felt the satisfaction of gaining foothold when tips of hooves tingled, announcing that contact... however brief, had been made. A halfgrin emerged toward the short-lived victory. Cranium rose from its lowered bucking position to face Levi with leveled rear and strained forelimbs.

Don’t ever circle a horses butt, or you'll get slapped with a few hundred pounds of annoyance. His flank stung in painful remembrance to beating just received. Aside from feeling victorious—the general couldn’t, and wouldn’t find enjoyment from wounding a brother; only a sense of necessity. To truly understand battle, one must be immersed completely….and the only safe way to practice was under the watchful eye of a partner or mentor.

Tail lashed across hindquarters when right wing felt a pressure close to pain. The taller Grullo was trying to close Midas’s appendage forcefully in whichever way he could. Fangs snapped together and a snarling hiss like sound emerged, all birthed from tight frustration. Feathers closed, flattened against painted body like a vice. Levi pushed further, thrusting body to throw a smaller Campolina off-balance. Left side strained against the onslaught of weight, a wing extended to aid in balance while golden daggers dug deeper into giving earth. Muscles flexed and pushed against a more powerful opponent in size and strength. His height gave advantage, but where there was advantage there was also weakness.

Longer legs gave ample room for attack, Midas jerked muzzle round—under the shoulders of his earthly brother. Teeth snapped at the ashy forlimbs that took gains from thrusting, their aim striking at the tight tendons just below knees. If this lad was going to push then by darn he was going to shove back and give Levi reason to limp.

Suddenly pressure and annoyance both disappeared; apparently Levi had either felt his teeth or grown bored of simply pushing against an unwilling wall. The brute rushed forward and before any reaction could take place on the generals part the snapping heat of hindhoof very nearly mated with chin. Hindquarters took body into retreat, nearly sitting him down. Eyes had been fatefully wide open the whole time, sharp granules of sand bit through air and sank between flashing lids.

A sharp whinny ignited past tonsils, his eyes burned and immediately watered to rid themselves of foreign particles. This wouldn’t be enough to stop his next onslaught; Midas was a friend of the desert. Born and mastered in the art of sand shifting. Forelimbs rose up, balanced by leveled and sunken hindquarters. Avian limbs extended on each side, he gave them a heavy thrust…feathers nearly mating with earth in their downstroke. A fresh cloud of dust and sand scattered as reward for expended efforts. This wasn't an attack, more of a defense. Levi should be able to avoid a weak cloud. But from behind smoky soil Midas was readying to spring out. Lids where open, but the insides where certainly irritated.

Thrusting from behind shimmering cover and landing roughly. Throats son emerged, then immediately thrust body skyward. Neck angled down with jaws wide and ready to ravage an attack across anything beyond ears toward withers. A mouthful of mane would be satisfactory. Limbs thrust to gain heaven as advantage.

OCC: Opening post (1/1) (2/2) Last post is yours Levi, as a closing defense. <'3

Attack: Bites at closest forelimb when Levi pushes against him. Emerges from dust cloud only to enter the sky and snap at Levi in passing.

Defense: Uses a cloud of dust and sand created by downbeat of wings to recover some semblance of sight.

Injuries: Has irritated eyes.

Levi

Tough muscles seemed to but-heads as sweat dripped from the grullo’s back, neck, and forehead. The success of Levi twisting Midas’s wing back slightly taking him off balance did not feel victorious. Midas was a brother and a herd mate, most unlikely to feel victory of hurting him. It was the divine honor of training himself which made him feel the most victorious. Win or lose it was a great training session and a great spar. The pure adrenaline rush was incredible as the blood flowed through his veins pressuring him to his moves. Bloody wounds were gashing down his sturdy neck as little drops of blood flew into the sand and in the air. The pressure of leaning against Midas was quite exhilarating, but just because the brute was taller did not give him an advantage. Midas was built well for battle since he was muscled and strong. He wasn’t just strong on the outside, but seemed to be content within himself, within his mind collecting his thoughts and forcing his limbs to do so as they were told. The flow of the spar was almost perfect, neither of the stallion seemed to miss a thing. Both strong and well coming together, Levi picked up everything that his herd mate was showing him. Time would only be able to say when Levi would be able to be content and true to himself.

Silver orbs grew wide as Midas lunged his maw forwards succeeding in grasping Levi’s chest from all of the movement. The sensation of pain urged in the area, but Levi could take a bite. Muscle had built up from the tense trainings, flying, and running. The pain was still exhilarating, but the adrenaline rush kept Levi moving on. Still pressing himself against Midas, he gave a huge burst of energy towards the side that met Midas’s to thrust him over. Attempting to snap his teeth towards Midas’s ear, he lunged himself towards him. Hot breath streamed out of his heavy breathing nostrils as he continued to see what the spar held next.

The sandy colored smoke blinded the surrounding view of Midas. Levi was unsure where his brother was for a moment, but soon enough there was a slight fade in which he saw a musty white come into view. A whinny of bewilderment pierced through the musky air. Levi had grown up in the Throat, so musty air was not a big deal to him, it was actually easier for him to deal with the little specks of sand, than any other element. Droplets of water, wind, fire, or particles of earth sand were the one thing that Levi was immune to. Midas also seemed to be immune to sand ass well since they could both work well with it. Flapping his massive wings, Midas had taken flight. Confusion of battle and body structure Levi could not see Midas at first. All the brute saw was the little particles of dust and sand surrounding his presence.

The sudden sound of flapping wings took its course as Levi could hear where Midas was. He was above the brute, but he was not very quiet about it. Swooping down Midas attempted to grasp something of Levi’s top line. Twisting his body, Levi lowered himself towards the ground, but Midas did succeed in taking a little clump of Levi’s silver threaded mane. Levi was not satisfied that he had not given Midas a good blow, but he felt connected and more bonded to Midas when they had first met. He wanted this for training, not to injure one or another. Levi wanted the pure joy of trust and training, nothing more.
The heavy feeling of the adrenaline had stopped. Peace seemed to overcome the land once again as the two stallions finally calmed themselves. Levi stood in place gazing his silvery flecks towards Midas as blood trickled down his neck. Walking towards his brother, Levi only got slightly closer to say a few words “Midas, thank you for this, brother. I have learned much today and you have helped me to become a better warrior and learn more about the art of war. It was honor training with you and maybe sometime we can spar again.” Bowing his head slightly he turned around and sped off towards the river of the Throat.

[OOC: Opening post (1/1)(2/2) Thank you Angel(: This was a blast and great training! Maybe we can spar sometime in the future :3

Attack: Trusting his body as hard as he could to knock Midas over. As he trust himself, he tries to snap at Midas's ear or neck.

Defense: Ducking, body strong and tucked. Hooves pressed hard into the sand.

Injuries: Neck wound from Midas biting his neck<3

By my verdict MIDAS is the winner. Midas can now use the Endure buff!

LEVI -- post 1 (attack only)

[Realism]
- 1| Attack: hip attack – if you had just tried to ram into his hip that could be plausible, but you are cantering and say you aim your leg at his hip, which is much too high to hit just running past and would require some description of a rear or buck to make sense.
+ 1| Attack: shoulder ram

[Prose]
+ 1| Emotion
- 1| Flow – focus on transitioning better between your actions and intentions, it’s all very choppy.
+ 1| Easy read

MIDAS -- post 1

[Realism]
+ 1| Attack: bites at Levi as he passes by
+ 1| Defense: takes the hip kick
- 1| Attack: wings slap – if he is behind you and you are bucking at him, not sure how your wings would help in this position, they are on either side of you and can reach frontways, but not backways.
+ 1| Attack: buck – was described in a confusing way
- 1| Defense: avoids the ram – how? You’re still just standing there, you didn’t say you repositioned or really moved at all that would have made the ram completely miss.

[Prose]
0| Emotion
+ 1| Flow
- 1| Easy read – you seem to drop your determiners, like ‘the’ or ‘his’ which makes it a bit confusing to read, and your buck attack took me a while to understand that you were bucking.

LEVI -- post 2

[Realism]
+ 1| Defense: glancing buck – you took it to the ribs which is a bad place to take a horse’s strongest attack
- 1| Injury: you do not describe in any detail the pain from the buck which would be very painful.
+ 1| Defense: bit by midas – a horses teeth aren’t sharp and cannot slice
+ 1| Defense: blocked by wings
0| Attack: pushing on wings – although a good idea for an attack, it was executed oddly and the wording made it very unclear to me.
+ 1| Attack: kicks sand at Midas’ head

[Prose]
+ 1| Emotion
+ 1| Flow
- 1| Easy read – some confusing portions to this post

MIDAS -- post 2

[Realism]
+ 1| Defense: closes wings, stays balanced
+ 1| Attack: bites
+ 1| Defense: sand in eyes
+ 1| Attack: dust cloud
+ 1| Attack: flying bite

[Prose]
- 1| Emotion – there was nothing but fight mechanics
+ 1| Flow
- 1| Easy read – dropped determiners

LEVI -- post 3 (defense only)

[Realism]
+ 1| Defense: bitten on chest
- 1| Injury: adrenaline rush and ‘able to take a bite’ are not reasons for brushing off pain or not describing an injury.
- 1| Attack: pushing and biting – you cannot attack in a defense post
+ 1| Defense: blinded by dust
- 1| Defense: mane bitten – horses can’t really crouch, especially not quickly, it’d be likely you’d fall over trying to do I fast.

Comments: You’ve definitely improved since your last fight :) you seem to have a better understanding of attacks and defenses, and really just more practice makes perfect! I would suggest to study a horse’s balance a bit more, as it’s difficult to push one over just standing, or crouch as you did in battle. Also be advised moving around is better than standing still, I noticed you said at one point your character just stood after attacking, always be moving as that makes you harder to hit and easier to explain evasions. Don’t forget to include an injury description any time you take a hit. Even if your character doesn’t feel the pain a whole lot, just describe what happened to the body, is it bleeding, did it bruise, is it swollen, is anything cracked, is the skin torn?? Remember too adrenaline is not a constant excuse for anything. Otherwise great job.

Comments: You did very well and I think most of your point reductions were just due to some lack of clarity with your writing. You have a good sense of a horse fighting, but I feel you could benefit further from studying videos of horses fighting (even play fighting). Another things I really want you to focus on is including emotion. I felt nothing in your posts, Midas was just a fighting machine that seemed to have little motive for his reasons of fighting or his specific actions when I know you can put so much more of him into this fight.
