Snowy white wings and glowing halo accompanied the body of the thin little colt that was racing headlong towards the oasis. Two tone mane flying like a banner as impossibly lengthy pillars drew him closer and closer. Childish excitement brought a glow to emerald irises, focused solely on the approaching water. Swan like wings drew themselves up, tips reaching for the sky, gaining tension as the space between Cera's little hooves and the water shortened. Finally pushing them down, catching the wind he needed to thrust him upwards a decent height. Squealing joyously as he half soared half crashed down towards the water. Legs extended out before him, splashing directly into the middle of the oasis with giggles bursting out of him.

Completely soaked now, the lanky cherub splashed and bucked through the water, sending up a tall spray of water that caught the harsh sunlight of the Dragon's Throat. White wings swept through it, accompanied by the whinnies of joy coming from the entertained little youngster. When he had his fill of play, he trotted out of the rippling water with a bright smile. Shaking his wings out much like a dog, the feathers drying quickly under the sun. Emeralds searched the horizon, wondering what he should do next. The day was open wide for him, and he hadn't been able to find Mystique or Lynx, so it was up to him to entertain himself once again.

The dusty bay stallion shied away from the sun, seeking refuge from it under a small, but lofty palm tree in the oasis near the pond. He sighed, silently cursing the sun, as he plopped down underneath the tree. He didn't know how much time passed before he felt water practically rain over him. He shivered, his sharp eyes snapping open, and searching for the source of the water. He spotted a drenched paint colt prancing around near him, obviously taking no notice of Note.

Note hauled himself from under the tree, anger rising deep within him, his sharp green eyes becoming sharper, and seemed to boiled he was so furious. He started to approach the colt from behind, his head held high, but soon slowed his brisk walk as he saw the innocence in the colt's eyes, the joy and simple, pristine happiness.

'The colt didn't mean to get water all over me, he - he was just having a bit of fun,' Note thought to himself in shame, biting his lip. He was too close to the pegasus colt now - he'd probably notice him soon. Note looked down at the colt as he searched the horizon, his head turned enough for him to see the foal's emerald eyes. Their eyes were strikingly similar, which only made him feel worse about getting angry at him over a bit of water.

Note shuffled his hooves nervously, studying the halo and white wings of the foal briefly before looking away in guilt. They were odd traits, but he knew other pegasi who had them, gifts from the Gods, most likely.

Water dripped off the thin colt despite his shaking, completely oblivious to the fact he wasn't alone. He was so used to it that he didn't even bother to look around. Mystique or Lynx would accompany him at times, but he was used to staying on his own until Midas returned from his General duties. So when he realized that he wasn't alone it was both a shock and a pleasant surprise. A dark brown stallion, also a Pegasus, stood behind him in an almost awkward fashion.

Green eyes brightened and he pranced in a small circle to face the other male, wings coming up to his sides and bouncing on his hooves happily. "Hi!" Chirping cheerily to him, looking up at him through the soft glow of his halo, reflecting off the color of his eyes in a surprisingly complimenting way. The sun no longer bothered his eyes from living here, so looking up at the grown male didn't make it very hard for him. "I'm Cera! Who're you? Do you wanna play?" Little hooves dancing eagerly on the sand as he looked up to similarly colored orbs. Oblivious to the fact he'd soaked and angered the poor stallion moments before their meeting.

Note watched the colt prance around him, greeting him warmly in a bubbly fashion. It was intriguing to watch the foal, for he had never really met one before. Of course, Note had been a foal, but the blissful days of being one had been rudely yanked away from him when his mother was lost. He couldn't even remember the times before he had been with the stallion, but he remembered his mother.

"Hi! I'm Cera! Who're you? Do you wanna play?" The colt spoke in an excited tone. Note smiled at Cera, taking a small, awkward step back from him.

"I - uh - I'm Note," He said shyly, looking at the ground, "What kind of games did you have in mind?" He finished, looking up once again at Cera's similar green eyes.

The stallion watched him in a strange manner, but Cera was completely oblivious to the fact. Every inch of him vibrated with the energy he always seemed to have, every feather rustling with the pleasure he felt at the possibility of making yet another friend. Oblivious to the fact Note was taking a step away from him, as Cera didn't really know the meaning of personal space. He smiled at least, which was good in his book. So long as he was kind, Cera didn't mind at all. It was practically permission!

Note, he announced himself. Though his eyes soon found the ground in a manner Cera at least knew as shy. "Hiiiiii Note!" Dragging out the hello as he whirled around in a few small circles, making himself dizzy with both laughter and vertigo. Spreading long legs out to brace himself until it passed. Note's eyes found him again, asking what games Cera wanted to play. The colt shuffled his wings to a more comfortable position and positioned his legs back to their original stance. Head tilting in a cute manner as he thought this over, ears flopping comically. Finally brightening and rearing up a few inches excitedly. "Oh! Oh! We can play tag, or we can do cannonballs like I did! Or we can race? Or play make believe!" Dancing on the spot, unable to keep still in the least.

Note watched the foal with genuine interest, he was quite amusing, but also intimidating to the stallion. Cera spun and spun, making himself dizzy, and Note laugh softly, flicking his ears back shyly.

"Oh! Oh! We can play tag, or we can do cannonballs like I did! Or we can race? Or play make believe!" Cera said, dancing and prancing in his place. The colt couldn't seem to stand still, no matter what he did. He was cute, and definitely brought out a new side of Note he had never known himself. 'Bipolar much?' he mused to himself as he watched Cera's prancing.

"Whatever you want to do is great, Cera," Note said, speaking in a soft and gentle tone while he smiled awkwardly, still shuffling his hooves. His sharp green eyes softened as he glanced at Cera. It was moments like these Note wished he still remembered his time as a foal, but after the stallion 'rescued' him, his mind was devoted to escaping him, not being a normal foal.

Maybe being with foals like Cera would be good for him, after all, he had agreed to Phaedra that he'd do his best to be a good mate for Sohalia; to fulfill all of her expectations of him. One was to be a father. He wouldn't let anyone down like that, ever.

Laughter, soft as it was, came from the cocoa infused stallion as Cera's antics continued. Of course the colt had no idea that he could possibly be taken as annoying. All the people he had met had been completely accepting, in some cases even encouraging, of his boundless energy. Surely someday as an adult it would come in handy but he was taking a risk with every new person. It seemed Note would not be that person.

Cera faltered when he had to choose, big doe eyes looking at note as if surprised. Finally smiling and extending his wings in a show of decision. "All of them!" Crying out exuberantly.

Note's demeanor was soft but awkward, but Cera thought automatically that he was wonderful. After all who else would be so willing to do whatever Cera wanted? Little colt decided to start immediately, in order of his ideas. Bouncing forward and tapping Note's shoulder with his muzzle. "Tag! You're it!" Immediately whirling around with a squeal of glee, shooting off but keeping himself close to the oasis. Lengthy pillars driving his lanky body across the sand, bright smile on his face.

Perhaps this new game will have to end preemptively- more important things have come to pass in the Oasis today.

Waking to greet the day in a tree is a young red panda, hungry for a morning meal and tired of its lonesome life. The creature looks up to the sky and sees the image of a bird silhouetted against the sun; it looks down to the earth and sees the galloping figure of a pegasus colt. There is a bond felt instantly, a strong urge to be close to the young one- the one with the bittern's wings and the child's smile. The red panda crawls quickly down the tree and tumbles without care into the sand. Out into the distance it calls, reaching for the mind of the young stallion with its pain. Its pain of being alone, its earnest search for something new. Silence hits its plea as it becomes clear that whatever bond might someday be forged has yet to take place. Still it blunders forth, stumbling in the thick and hot sand, following the hoof-prints of the colt as he runs away. Hunger takes over, the exhaustion of sleeping (Oh what a laborious task!) forces the creature to a halt. From its place in the sand it cries out, hoping the colt might turn back for him.

Congratulations Cera, your quest has been completed and you have found the red panda! Though no bonds can be formed during the eclipse of Birdsong, you must still gather three things for the panda to eat (each in a separate post, to be answered by RE) in order for it to begin to follow you. Though Note may help find the food as one of your newest friends, you must present it to the panda yourself.

The young Cera glanced up with a surprised look in his big emerald eyes. Note gazed back at the colt with a reassuring look in his own sharp green gaze. He felt slightly guilty for him, since he was making the child think so hard.

The colt smiled, and extended his wings in joy. "All of them!" He cried in joy. "Tag! You're it!" Cera squealed, tapping Note's shoulder. The colt sprang away, his face incredibly bright. The bay stallion didn't chase after Cera immediately.

Note hesitated, flicking his ears back and biting his lip. He liked Cera, but was still intimidated by the young colt. He sighed, looking after the foal. If he didn't go with him, it'd make Cera feel awful...Note gazed after the colt, his happiness spreading through him like a virus. A smile appeared on Note's gray maw as he reared, then set off after Cera.

Even Note didn't know he could feel such happiness from a simple game of tag. His long strides kicked up the hot sand, his hair whipped around his nape and legs. He cantered faster, coming upon Cera from behind. He was about one head behind the colt, determined to catch him, when he saw a red lump collapsing in the sand near him. Note slowed his pace, adverting his attention to the fumbling lump.

Note moved closer to the lump. 'It's a...panda?' Note thought, confused by the sudden appearance of such a random creature. "Cera, you might want to see this!" He called after the colt with a worried look for the red panda flashing in his sharp green eyes.

Whether Note knows it, or even wants it, he has been abducted. Taken into the fold Cera has created, the gaggle of loved ones he frequently preys on to adore and play with. He has a very simple procedure for friendship, but his ties to them we're stronger than steel. Note was, luckily or unluckily, now part of Cera's little family. Oblivious to the fact Note is hesitating at all, Cera only realizes when he is drawing closer.

Squealing happily a the rush he go knowin he would soon be tagged, his pace changed and he giggled breathlessly. The thrill you got as you tried to evade someone in tag made you intoxicated with happiness. Right before Note reached him, Cera's ears heard a plaintive cry that tugged harshly at his heart. Blur of red and black catches his eye as Note's voice worriedly called out to him. Cera quickly stopped and jogged back to Note, soft green eyes taking in the exhausted red panda on the sand. Gasping when he realized that the Earth God had sent him the one who would cure the loneliness he felt in Midas' absence.

"Note! She's my friend! Daddy Earth sent me on a quest!" Kneeling down as low as he could get, belly brushing the sand. Wings lowering flat, peering worriedly at the fluffy creature. Touching her cheek gently. "Note, she's hungry!" Rising up now to his knees, knowing he cannot carry her now. He must find her food. Concern crinkles his face and he turns to her. "I'll find food, okay? I'll come back!" Remembering how she cried out to him, not wanting to leave her and have her think she is abandoning him. Gently he moves her, bridge of his nose beneath her belly and shuffling her to the base of the tree. Touching her shoulder and standing.

Cera turns big worried eyes to Note. "I don't wanna leave her...we can't go far okay?" Reluctant to part from the one meant to be with him. Glancing around the desert, thinking of what he could feed her. Something small, like rodents.

Note shifted his weight back and forth from his left to right side as Cera gasped, anxious and scared for the panda. He didn't want the creature to have to suffer in any way, he was a fair horse.

"Note! She's my friend! Daddy Earth sent me on a quest!" Cera cried, kneeling down to the panda. 'Daddy Earth? The Earth God. Cera went on a quest for a companion!' Note thought to himself, his emerald eyes sparkling as he gazed at the colt. Such a brave colt, to face a God and quest for an eternal friend.

"Note, she's hungry! I'll find food, okay? I'll come back!" The colt said, concerned for the panda. Note was concerned as well, - no. He was afraid for the poor creature, and for Cera's sake. He shuffled the poor panda underneath the tree, as Note leaned towards the two, watching Cera for directions on what to do with the creature, after all, it was his soon-to-be companion.

Cera's eyes so worried, it made Note's heart ache. "I don't wanna leave her...we can't go far okay?" the colt said. Note nodded his head, then spoke at last, "We must be able to find something for her to eat around here...What do red pandas eat, anyways?" Note asked Cera shyly, glancing back at the red lump.

The knowledge that he succeeded in his quest completely bypasses him. Cera doesn't even spare a moment to feel proud or shocked. His attention is on the ball of crimson and ebony fur that lay so tired and still on the sand. Grassy eyes never leave her form. He can only repeat a few thoughts in his head. One being that she was here. Finally in his presence, the one he would be bonded to until he died. The one who would know him inside and out, whom he would love unconditionally. It's a staggering prospect, but he is eager for it. She was what he had wanted for months now. Fina and Midas were already so close. Cera couldn't wait to reach even that depth of intimacy, uncaring of the fact it would take her months in order to speak at all. Already he loved her.

Cera stood reluctantly. He had to find her food. As much as he despised leaving her in a heap by herself, she needed the nourishment. Note spoke then, seeming just as worried as the colt. "Little animals. Rodents, eggs. Mice, or voles?" Trailing off as he tried to think of the vermin that lived in the desert. Taking a few steps away to begin searching for tracks or a burrow. He passed them often enough on a daily basis, but now he needed to actually pay attention.

Note nodded his head slowly, but said nothing. He started to follow Cera's lead, lowering his head to the ground to find the panda something - anything - to eat. He flicked an ear back at the heap of skin and bones that was Cera's newest friend, worried. That was all he felt. Worry. It was sickening.

Note spotted a flicker of white and tan out of the corner of his eye. The stallion reared up on his hind legs, twisting and landing his hooves down on the ground - hard. Sand blew up around Note, as he immediately regretted his decision of landing so hard on the ground. The stallion sputtered out a cough, closing his eyes and turning his head away from the descending sand around him, but not moving his hooves an inch.

The sand around him was finally calm. The ear-piercing shriek of a rodent came from Note's hooves. He reluctantly opened his eyes, taken by surprise at the rodent he had caught. Note had landed upon the tail of a kangaroo rat. The rodent continued to squeal and scrabble at the ground, trying it's best to get it's tail from beneath Note's silver hooves.

"Cera! Will this do?" Note called to the colt, not taking his panicked eyes off the rodent.

It is too early for celebration on your part, Note. The little kangaroo rat is fierce and wild, and will have none of this. It turns sharply and aims to bite down on your pastern, all the while freeing itself. In a moment it is gone, running off into the sand with a crooked tail waving behind.

Note moving so quickly made Cera jump, startled by the sudden slamming of hooves against sand. The cloud that appears is annoying but easily found in the Throat. The squealing of a trapped rodent however is not. It hurts the colts ears but the bite seems to look even worse. Note's hold on the wild creature is removed and the thing goes scurrying off. Cera is saddened by this and turns to Note. "Sorry it bit you..."

Eyes return to the plains. Soft bundle of fur is spotted, still shedding its coat from Frostfall. Ground squirrel. Cera knows he will have to be fast, and not hesitate to kill it. It sickens him to think of slaughtering it but knows his friend needs it. He faces forward, wings tucked tight. This animal is a prey to hawks and knows the shadow of wings. It will only give him away faster. Legs are extended in a full gallop, knowing its a flat run for an animal with much smaller legs. It cannot traverse the sand to safety in a burrow or tree before Cera's legs cover it's ground in seconds. Hooves are aimed carefully as he lunges, hoping to crush it beneath his weight. Not wanting it to suffer. Breaking its spinal cord or crushing its skull would be easiest even if he has to detach his emotions to keep from crying.

The little ground squirrel is too clever for you, Cera. While its legs may be short, its mind is sharp. As you gallop forward and the shadow of your hooves threaten to cross its back, it stops short, staying behind as you go past it before darting away with a thankful chittering.

Note snorted at the rat as it scurried off, annoyed by the creature's actions. He pulled his hoof up to take a look at his pastern. The rat had bitten him harder than he thought it had, blood poured from a small, but deep gash right above his hoof. He sighed, holding his newly injured hoof against his right leg in order to stop the bleeding. Holding it against his knee hurt more than not doing anything, but he needed to stop the gushing somehow.

"Sorry it bit you..." Cera said, obviously saddened by the recent event. "It's fine," Note said vaguely, peeking at his bleeding pastern. The blood had mostly stopped flowing at this point, but he had a huge splotch of red across his right knee. He tenderly set his hoof down, although he felt very little pain. He turned back to Cera just in time to see a little ground squirrel dart from beneath him with happy chittering.

The dusty stallion scowled to himself, scanning the area around them, looking for more prey. This hunting thing was turning out to be much harder than he originally thought it would be. His sharp green eyes were filled with frustration when they fell upon a small prairie dog with it's back turned to himself. The creature seemed to have been running around, confused, lost, and without a burrow in sight.

Note sprang into the air with a little help from his wings, making sure his left side was turned to Cera so the colt saw nothing of his scar. He aimed his landing spot, right on the prairie dog's back, hoping to kill it quickly and efficiently when he landed.

Your aim could not have been more true- there is a shriek that rings through the desert air as your hooves meet the prairie dog's spine, and then it meets a swift and early death. At your will, the cycle of life goes on as one beast falls to feed another.

Note is off before disappointment can settle fully for Cera. He feels hopeless but it's small in comparison to his determination to feed the beautiful panda. He supposed he would have to think of a name for her. Emeralds turn to Note as he lunged, wings spreading as he dove for a creature he couldn't see. A sharp squeal and then silence had his ears flicking skyward and face brightening. Had be gotten it?

Cera jogged over to him and gasped happily. Smiling brightly at Note. Thankful that he was here to help Cera. "You got it! Thank you!" Cheerily brushing his muzzle over Note's cheek. Knowing he had to be the one to give it to her, he quickly if queasily rolled it over to the fluffy panda. Dark eyes looked at him and then the food, latching onto it and eating greedily. Thrilled, Cera turned and swept the sand again. He needed something slower, something he could actually catch. Mind went to snakes. They were fast when striking but slow across the sand at times. Eyes not pausing until he found one. Approaching quickly from behind. He didn't want to be big after all. The Throat residents knew how to kill snakes if they needed to but Cera had never done it before. Using his wings he pushed down and lifted himself forward. Aiming towards the head so that it's fangs wouldn't find his leg.

Perhaps your baby hooves are not yet tough enough to kill, perhaps your disposition is to kindly to turn to murder. Whatever the case, the snake feels no fear. It lashes forth, springing off of the ground and jumping into the air. It coils tightly, as if to attack and bite, but you are fortunate enough to shake it off before it can tighten its grip with your forward motion. The snake falls, dazed but unharmed, and slithers quickly away.
