The young painted warrior moved across the open meadows of World's Edge. He of course had been lax during FrostFall, choosing instead to look after his baby sister and adopted brother. It was the least he could do as the ex-Edge had taken away their mother. Ah his mother... He could only hope she was alright. With the on set of Birdsong, he was making his own plans to get her back. In the mean time, he needed practice. Brown eyes looked around to see if anyone was nearby.

Instead of just waiting around, he lifted his draft frame on to his hind legs as if he was calling to the skies themselves. He called out for any of his herdmates, any who wanted to test their skills. After all the more he worked and pushed himself, the better he could protect the herd. The sooner he would be eligible to rise to the position of WingLeader. He wanted to help lead the Qian, to show the rest he was not a reckless little boy... But a strong warrior that could and would protect them.

The call was familiar. A well known voice, a well known edge to the wordless cry, and it called him. Begged him to come, enticed him like the red sheet before a bulls nose. Ready from the get go, prepared to put this youngster to the test, as he wished.

Personally, Lace found the colt much too young to call the shots on the battlefield. Able, yes, capable of dealing great damage. But not ready for the burden of a General's cloak, not in many years. He understood the wish to be of use, to make a name for himself, to be taken seriously, because he had shared it when he was at that age. But that was also precisely why he couldn't approve of Aarons desire to rise in rank. He was so young still, with so much to see and do before he took up the burden of responsibility. If the seasoned veteran had anything to say in the matter, he would have the young warrior enjoy life for a while longer before the light of his eyes could get clouded by the harsh realities of life.

He slipped out from the surrounding forest as quietly as he could, hiding in the blind spot of Aaron's vision that was located right behind the rump. Taking the risk of being spotted and receiving a kick in the face, Lace hoped to sneak up on the colt and place a sharp nip on the broad flank before quickly dodging away to the right.

Once his cover was blown, the older stallion pulled away until he was out of reach, placing himself head to dock with the painted draft, eyes glittering with mischief as he sneakily assessed the boy. Equal in height, but thicker in built, slower but also younger - thus possessing more expendable energy and a flexible mind. He was obviously not inexperienced, but whether he was a match for the former mercenary remained to be seen. Lace was aware of the fire magic that burned within the chest of the boy, he'd seen it first hand during the invasion - but how it worked and what the boundaries for it was, that he didn't know. Hopefully he wouldn't have to learn anytime soon either, unless the paint wanted a more serious spar.

Was he in a mood for play, or would the tree-marked stallion have to deal with the grumpiness of a teenager wishing to prove his worth? It remained to be seen; he wondered if Aaron was aware of the pale dragon that came slipping through the grass from his other side, quiet and focused as if she was hunting. And she was. Not for meat and something to fill her belly, no, but for excitement. For a chance to surprise this young earthbound horse that was many times bigger than herself, and make him respect her sharp teeth and glistening claws.

"I'll take you on, boy! Come at me however you want!" Lace suddenly cried out, attempting to draw the attention of the young Protector. At the same time, Fajira leaped out of the concealing grasses of the meadow, hissing and growling like a feral cat as she aimed her front claws at Aaron's left shoulder - or whatever part that was closest to her at the moment of attack. She wasn't picky, and targets were known to move suddenly and without warning.

Lace tried to sneak up on Aaron from behind and bite at his flank. Slipped off to the right and tried to put distance between them, turning and aligning himself side by side, with the head in opposite direction from Aaron's. Fajira came sneaking through the grasses from Aaron's left side, and when Lace spoke to Aaron to distract him, she leaped out and aimed her front claws at his shoulder. ]

The call was answered, but not by one the painted expected. The Glazier came with his white dragon, sneaking up behind the draft. Aaron's ears flickered all around him, listening for any approaching hooves. He of course heard someone coming, but waited until he was sure. Of course by that time it was to late. The feeling of Lace's teeth on his flank had the draft spinning around to face the older stallion who had dodged to the right a bit. They both seemed to hold off for a moment to size each other up. Being a herd mate, the warrior had already decided he would not use his fire magic full force if he used it at all. However as a test of his rank magic the draft stomped his right hoof to the ground, feeling the ground tremble lightly. The youngster's eyes lit up and he leaped forward a few steps to attempt a nip at Lace's right shoulder as the ground still shook. It seemed like it all happened so fast. From being alone to jumping into a spar with a much more experienced warrior.

It was only as Lace shouted did Aaron's ears flicker to his left side. Out of the corner of his eye he saw a white flash and felt the claws of Lace's bonding scratching his left shoulder. He snorted, taking mental note to always be aware of possible bonded companions. It was a good lesson for the young knight. He took not action to harm the dragoness, merely looking at her and snorting in annoyance. It seemed like this spar would show him just what he needed to work on after all.

was surprised by lace's nip and spun around to face him. remained still sizing lace up as well before trying out his rank magic by stomping the ground to make it lightly shake. as the ground lightly shakes he leaps forward trying to take advantage of lace possibly being off balanced by the shaking ground to nip at lace's right shoulder.

stops as Lace shouts, distracted just long enough for Fajira's attack to hit the mark on his left shoulder. he does not attack her other than to snort in her face]

It was always pleasing when a plan succeeded, no matter how simple it was. The nip on Aaron's rear had a much desired effect, and Lace had to keep himself from laughing out loud when the colt jumped and spun around to glare at him, surprise painted all over the two-colored face. The Glazier only grinned back, ears pricked forward in anticipation of the next move while the black hooves shifted slightly beneath him, spreading wider in preparation; he wanted to be ready to move in any direction, no matter how the young warrior would come at him.

The thought that this boy would be able to shake the very earth with a light tap of a hoof was not something he had expected though. It was Lace's turn to be surprised now, as for a moment the grass-covered roots and rocks beneath his feet was made to tremble. It unbalanced him, it delayed his reaction as the young draft scurried forward to attack just enough for the boy to be able to land a mark on him; though not exactly where he had wished for it to land. The former mercenary, once stabilized once more, had dug his hooves deep into the damp forest floor and launched forward, enough to make the nip land upon the broad gold-dusted flank instead. Grimacing slightly from discomfort he continued ahead a few strides, then turned and shouted - only to be awarded with the sight of a snarling Fajira leaping from the ground and scratch at the soldiers pale shoulder.

This time he had to laugh. Not at Aaron, but at the content look upon the dragons face as she warbled and flapped the wings, retreating to the air once her goal had been accomplished. She looked so pleased, so happy where she flew, and the feeling affected the stallion even though he couldn't feel her emotions reflect within his soul.

It made him set off in a high-kneed trot, ground-covering and fast, turning slightly to the right in order to encircle the younger equine. Golden eyes watched him carefully as he danced round and around, relentlessly searching for a weak spot where he could place another nip, a determined kick - only to teach the boy how much he still had to learn.

With the tail set high and neck painting an elegant arch against the spring green backdrop of the forest, the rhythm of his hooves suddenly changed as the experienced stallion abandoned the circle and fell in to attack. Coming at his herd-mate on the others left side, he approach from behind at a diagonal angle and tried to ram the sturdy shoulder with his own, putting the weight of his body and the momentum of the attack into it to shove Aaron out of balance. Prepared for an eventual side step, the black-masked crafter quickly followed up with a bite toward the left side of the painted neck, another quick nip intended to mark more than injure.

Was distracted and slightly shaken off balance by the quake. Took the nip at the right flank after leaping forward.
Began circling around Aaron in a clockwise direction, suddenly fell in from a position behind and to the left of him, to ram his side and push him off balance. Aimed a nip at the left side of his neck, on the upper middle part.

Edit: Forgot that I had a defense post too, so removed a bit from the bottom. ^^;]

As Lace began to laugh at the look on Fajira's draconic face, the young paint could not help but laugh as well. she had gotten him good and caught him unaware. That would never happen again. Brown eyes watched as Lace moved forward, his eyes never leaving the grulla. As he began to circle around, Aaron to moved to keep facing the Glazier. He had learned never to turn his back to an opponent. Madryn and Maskan had taught him that much. The pair had become his mentors early on, as had his mother.... Until his father had disapeared... He pushed the thoughts of his father and Isilme away. Now was not the time for thinking of the past. Now was the time to prepare for the future and become stronger and smarter in battle. He had to be ready to fight and protect World's Edge at a moments notice, to keep his family safe from all dangers big and small.

He focused, setting his mind as if he was fighting one who was not a herd mate. His eyes watched, he stopped moving just listening to Lace's hoof beats as he moved around. Suddenly they changed, coming at him almost from behind The paint readied himself before kicking up his heels like he had done as a colt playing around. Little did he know that action would come in handy as he grew bigger. In fact he didn't know half of the moments he had made in play as a child would later become handy tricks as a protector of his herd.

Aaron laughs because of the look of Fajira's face, but watches as Lace comes forward again. he tries not to turn his back to lace at first, but then stops just listening to the sound of lace's hooves. when they change as he moves in, aaron kicks up his hind legs aimming a kick at lace.

This has been fun, I wouldnt mind sparring the pair again sometime so aaron can learn a bit better]
