KTULU
it's getting harder and harder to breathe

After stalking angrily from the Threshold where she had met her younger brother for the first time, Ktulu stopped at the Endless Blue in hopes that the crashing waves and salty ocean air would calm her nerves. The black dun filly closed her eyes and listened to the waves crashing onto the shore. The sound was nostalgic to her. It brought back memories of playing on the beach of the Tides with Ophelia when they were foals. Back when her legs were crooked and she hobbled instead of walked. As unhappy as she was with her legs back then, the times were simpler and she was happier.

Ktulu sighed and opened her eyes, her crimson gaze finding the ocean. She wondered if it really was endless or if it did, indeed, end. As her mind wandered she began to wonder if anyone had ever tried to see if it ended. If anyone swam out into the water and if they did what they found. The filly strode forward, stopping only when the water reached her knees. She was reminded again of her original home. She had thought one time to control the ocean only to be told that her father that it was a force to be reckoned with.

One to be feared and protected. Maybe swimming out there would be tempting fate and the ocean just a bit too much.

But her inability to control the ocean did not stop the school of saltwater minnows from doing just that. Unafraid of the hooves of the hybrid even as they broke the water at the shore, they swam and surrounded Ktulu's feet eagerly, as if pulling her deeper into the water. Finned tails slapped against her ankles as if to tickle and tease, and with steady, unblinking eyes, they leapt from the water, and brought it with them.

Behind each minnow trailed a small column of water, and the school's combined effort managed to cover her legs up to the knees in the salty, stinging bite of the sea. A few climbed up further on the water, entangling themselves in her mane and tail or slapping her back as they swam in the pools of water they brought to rest between her shoulders. It was as if they knew there was something special about her, or remembered her from those very days when her legs stood crooked yet her heart stayed strong. A few swam down by her ears and traced the outline of the bone beneath her eyes, until at last they dripped from her horn and fell back into the water from whence they came, leaving her soaked to be sure.
