Lakota

Deep inside her veins, something pulsed like a living being. It ran through her veins like some shipwreck song, the calling of sirens that she could not deny. The vixen was still acquainting herself with this new ally, this magic that burned inside her like some other soul. It fit her so well, the gift that had been bestowed upon her by the mistress of night and shadows. Every stepping stone had led her to this day, with the ability to poison without ever having to so much as twitch a muscle. Her glee over this had not abated despite the time that had gone by, and only now had she quit trembling whenever she remembered the new power she had. It was sinking in now that it was both a curse and a blessing, for it could hurt her just as easily. This was something she had tested fully, practicing with the mists that swirled up and around at her will. Though it was dark magic, it fit the similarly shadowed places of her soul that also stained her coat.

Lean form twisted through the trees to a destination unknown. Long pillars slinking forth so the rest of her long body followed, smooth and measured like a panther stalking its prey. Healthy black coat gleaming under the fading sunlight that peered through the leaves, dapples appearing in odd places all over her body. Bubbling, trickling. Sounds reached her ears and they swiveled upon her chadowed crown to focus on its source. Water, her mind supplied. Breaking free from the tree line she allowed herself a few precious moments to survey the scenery. It could hardly be called a meadow, but it was certainly a clearing of some sort. From the thicket of the woods the creek winded out, grass lasting at least ten paces before the trees reclaimed their previous dominance over the land. This stretch of empty land remained on both sides of the creek, double the length as you traveled downstream in comparison to its width. Assured that nobody was nearby the mare moved forward, tall frame easily spotted as her dark colors were spotlighted upon in the rose and violet hues of dusk. Lowering her head to accommodate her pillars, muzzle brushing the cool stream beneath her coal lips. Quenching the thirst that tickled at the back of her throat, violet eyes snapping across the horizon that remained in her view. Unwilling to leave herself open to attack.

Stepping away she faced East, away from the sinking sun. Perpendicular to the creek behind her. Cold visage was the only aspect that would welcome newcomers, turning her expressive face of Morgan heritage into a statue of frigidness. Birdsong could not hold its grasp as the sun sank, though it was substantially warmer than the frigidity of Frostfall’s nights. A shiver traveled through her, hardly noticeable as the temperature slowly dropped. Within an hour visibility would be severely decreased, but for now it was blessed to her through the rose like painting of the sky. Glad that she was not facing the direct sunlight as she tilted her head heavenward. Singing out to those around her, alerting them of her presence. Telling them of the place she had found, daring them to come and confront her.

Today is a day for battle.

---

Setting: Small clearing borders by a circle of trees. Directly in the middle runs a creek. Approximately ten paces out from the edge of the creek to the edge of the trees, and twenty from the mouth of the creek to the end from tree line to tree line. Temperature is slowly dropping, visibility isn’t 100% but can still see well; Dusk. Lakota is standing facing due West, with her back to the sun and her hind legs at the edge of the creek facing the tree line.
