Nayati
the flower that smells the sweetest is shy and lowly

Dark ruby eyes regarded the world with quiet apprehension. Nayati was small, would always be tiny in fact. Everything around her was so much larger, so much stronger. Without Svetlana, Romani, Abdullah...everyone she relied on had suddenly disappeared. Without someone to hide behind, she had forced herself out into the world. Bale was the only person she had left in the world, she felt. Some days she was good, and could walk about in the quiet bubble she lived in. But most days that bubble was popped and she was left frightened and skittish, jumping at every noise. Hope and fear lingered in every noise, for she was hopeful that someone she knew was coming, but also fearful that Mother had returned. Her scar ached with every lurch, and emotionally throbbed despite being mostly scarred over and healed. It went along the length of her body, from her flank nearly to her shoulder. It was a hideous thing, and she was very self conscious about it, but held tightly to those that had promised her she was perfect and not ugly. That Mother's words were not true.

A flock of birds erupted from the tree next to her in a flurry of wings and squawking, and Nayati gave a short scream of terror as it made her heart lurch almost painfully. Before she could even remember moving she was running, dashing away on tiny thin legs. Eyes wild and scared, far too young and mentally scarred to be on her own. Tears filled her pretty eyes but did not fall, and she continued to run. It was getting dark and every creak and whisper of the woods only made her panic further. Finally she had to stop and forced herself to calm, though it seemed impossible. Heart raced in her ears and blood pounded in her head, frightened by what was not there. Mother was not returning to kill her for being the offspring of an affair. Every horrible word was more of a blow to her than her scarred knees and side. Tiny tears rolled down her cheeks as she tried to be strong, tried so very hard, but she simply couldn't. Insanity had told her to find her smile, but at that moment she couldn't, and she wedged herself into a small spot between a tree and a bush and kept her frail body out of sight, crying and hiccuping in fear that made her sound hysterical. Nayati didn't want to be afraid anymore.

resplendence
Resplendence had ben trying to slide around the lands. Everything overpowering her senses as she lurched forward at an easy trot. There had been foals around here. And simply the sight of foals made her heart feel as if it was being ripped into two. The memories of her family being mauled fresh in her head, vibrant in colour and sensation that it could put her in a completely different place in mere moments. Her eyes flickering around until she landed upon the sight of a young foal being sent into a state of panic because of the flock of birds that had erupted into the sky. She had to admit, she had jumped as well, leaping a few feet forward, but not much more. This foal was as skittish as she was, if not more. And so, carefully, she followed behind her, making sure that she didn't' get herself lost in the woods. Her motherly instincts kicking in. The instincts she had never been allowed to use.

When she finally saw the foal stop she watched as she burrowed herself in the tiniest space between the tree and a bush. Her body disappearing from sight as tears and hiccuping emerged from behind the foliage. "Shh. Shh. It's okay little one." Resplendence spoke, dropping down beside the brush and resting her head on the ground so that her maw was close to the brush. "It's just some birds. No one's going to hurt you," she purred out, allowing her smooth voice to float in the air. The poor baby reminded her so much of her own daughter. And she knew, right then, that she was going to easily become attached to the child if she was given the chance to do so.

Nayati
the flower that smells the sweetest is shy and lowly

Nayati didn’t expect for anyone to notice her, a tiny little thing without a mother. She was a ghost in the Foothills, a small alabaster wraith that was only glanced at before one’s gaze turned away. Nobody really cared, and why should they? Nayati knew she was a waste of space, of life. Her scar reminded her every day of that. So when movement came from outside her tiny space of comfort, she froze. Every part of her freezing up, sobs quieting. Quiet, quiet, be quiet. If you’re quiet they won’t hurt you. Be good, be good, be good! If they don’t see you they won’t hurt you! Rules that she had learned long ago when she had to stay hidden to avoid another beating. Soft, dark orbs came into her view. Huge, scared rubies stared back at the mare, tears soaking her small white face. The mare’s face was sweet and calming, and Nayati trembled as she looked back at her. Her words were kind and soothing, and Nayati took a deep shaking breath in response, trying to calm down like the pretty lady told her to.

It was hard for Nayati to process her words at first, and she was slipping. World going dark and fuzzy around her. She was prone to panic attacks, one of which she was having. Every limb froze and she merely remained where she was. It was mild and she knew it, struggling through it. She probably looked so foolish, hardly even breathing, eyes wide and nostrils flared. How long it took her to resurface she didn’t know, but when she was able to breathe normally and move a little, she focused on the mare. Moving very slowly closer, face nervous and wary. Would she hurt her? No, no…she had said that nobody would. Nayati’s muzzle trembled and she extended it very, very slowly towards the woman. Giving a tiny sob when they brushed, as if it was the first time she’d ever touched somebody. Moving a little closer, though she remained halfway inside the brush. Remaining on her knees, still trembling. ”Y-You won’t h-hurt me?” Voice a tiny, frail whisper. Large rose eyes staring at her, scared. She had believed Svetlana, Abby, and Roma when they had promised her she would not be harmed. And yet they had disappeared, abandoning her. They had hurt her inside, where it counted most. How was she to know that this beautiful mare wouldn’t do the same? Even if she looked so sincere, and her words were so kind…Nayati inched a little closer, eyes glancing around at the woods around them in fear before turning her gaze back to Resplendence. It was dusk by then, and she was starting to fear the darkness. It had been late at night when Mother had driven her away and nearly killed her, and the emotions were tied deeply with the hour of darkness, leaving her vulnerable.

and i'll find strength in pain and i will change my ways
The mare hunkered down on the forest floor. Her tail gently looping around her lithe frame as she gazed at the young foal who seemed to be trembling with such power she was starting to shake the brush around her only to force it to temper down just enough to keep that from occurring. The rubies of eyes from the little one peered anxiously up at Resplendence as soothing soprano chords flit into the air and swirling down toward the foals bodice. A deep shaking breath seemed to appear from the young foal as she attempted to calm back down.

It was then that the young foal froze completely, breaths stopping as she flared her nostrils. The poor one was having a panic attack, something Res knew all too well. So, she waited, allowing the young one to have it's time to pull from it. Trying to comfort wouldn't be doing anything except exacerbating the situation. When the young one came back to it she watched as she started to edge closer to the elder mare's frame. Trembling as she pushed her maw closer and closer until it touched her. And then, a gentle sob the second they brushed, still moving closer even tough half her body was under the brush. "Y-You won't h-hurt me?" she asked in a frail whisper. The foal crawled even closer to her before glancing around the forest with fretful eyes. Resplendence gently bobbed her head. "No, I won't hurt you doll." she whispered sweetly, not moving so as to scare the poor one off. "Scared of the dark? Come, we should head back to the lands, and I can make sure no one gets if you - if you'd so like, little one." she sang, letting out a soft breath as she waited to move - knowing full too well just want movement could send the foal into.

She is beginning to trust, already, the mare with the soft voice. She is very different from the others, who made up for her silence with talking louder and trying to force normality. Instead of doing so, Resplendence was careful and soft, as if understanding what Nayati was going through. The filly didn’t understand that Resplendence probably intimately understood every terror and side effect, and it gave her experience that Nayati didn’t have. Instead of remaining standing, she had curled up on the ground just to make the pale princess feel safer, and for that Nayati was immensely grateful. It was sometimes a matter of pride, getting on her level, but she was thankful that Resplendence didn’t seem to care and waited through the tremors and panic attack just to help her.

Every attack drained her, left her feeling weak and smaller than ever. Ruby eyes watched the coffee female carefully for any sign of anger or movement, but all she received was a small nod of her crown. It was enough to relieve a bit of the tension that had seized up her frail shoulders, and allowed her to extend her forelegs correctly in preparation for standing. Comforting tone was more than enough, even if the words had been complete gibberish to Nayati. ”Scared of the dark?” Nayati’s eyes darted around before returning to the lass, and nodded shakily. She really didn’t know how to lie anyways, and she’d never been a particularly prideful child. Slowly she took in her words, the stillness of the understanding fae that made Nayati want to curl up against her side and remain there in the comfort of her skin forever. At last she nodded, lifting with thin forelegs until the rest of her body followed. Dark scar, the black of her skin and the pink of dead flesh fighting it out for dominance of her coat, was glaringly obvious with the light of the moon cascading down through the leaves. Nayati jumped as the leaves rustled and made a soft noise in her throat, moving unsurely towards Resplendence and tucking close to her side. In her mind if she stayed with the pretty woman, then the demons couldn’t appear and haunt her. ”P-Please don’t leave…” she whimpered, pressing her small white face into a tawny shoulder. ”I-It’s scary…”

and i'll find strength in pain and i will change my ways
Resplendence curled up and waited. The poor foal was experiencing a lot of what she had experienced every day of her life. There was no reason to attempt to be harsh with her. For, of course, that did nothing to ease the nerves. Simply waiting it out, and showing that you were there was the best way to help calm down from panic attacks. Trying to force people out of it did nothing. The heightened noises and scents. Everything flooding your brain. It was overwhelming, and more noise did nothing to stop that from occurring.

Finally, the white and brown spotted filly extended her legs in a manner of standing. Though, Resplendence didn't dare to move yet. The mare would stand when the young one was okay with it. Her mouth moving ever so slightly, questioning if the filly was afraid of the dark. A small bob of the young one's head was the response. When the foal finally rose to her feet she could clearly see the black scar that ran across her skin, showing that of a horrible past. At least this baby had some reason for the panic attacks. Res had no explanation for her own, and that fact bothered her ever so slightly. It didn't make any sense. So why couldn't she just stop having them?

Within a few uncertain movements Res could hear the sound of leaves rustling, her muscles tensing slightly as the young foal jumped - suddenly afraid that there might be a wolf or other predator heading toward them. But, after flaring her nostrils in an attempt to take in the scent she decided nothing was there. Res's body was still slightly tensed, though, having to force herself to stay lying down so as to not scare the foal. And then, once the foal had tucked herself up against her side she felt herself relax for a second. "P-Please don't leave..." the foal's voice whimpered, "I-It's scary..." her head now pressed up against Res's shoulder. Ever so delicately Res allowed her muzzle to ruffle some of the foal's locks before bobbing her head, "I'm not going anywhere," she whispered to the foal, flicking her tail so that it circled around the two of them in a protective-like manner, something that had always comforted her for no real apparent reason - and she hoped it would do the same for the foal at her side.
