It seemed it had become a personal goal for Kaj to lead wandering souls to his herd, not once giving up on his perusal of the Threshold. The Edge had suffered a blow that he had not been there for, and it enraged him beneath his normally composed exterior. He had not been there for his family, and he hated it. But now, he would help rebuild the Edge. He would guide home wanderers to become kinsmen, build up the strength of his herd, train those who needed it. Kaj took his task very seriously, and in fact loved it. Recruiting was not something he was required to do, but he did so anyways. Always doing so after his duties, proud to lead home creatures like Balios. The Edge would treat them well, no matter who he brought to the borders. If they were sound of mind and strong of heart, Kaj approved and would bring them beneath the gaze of his Leader for acceptance.

Strong cocoa stockings drove him forward in a nearly relentless fashion. Once again he was stuck on the ground, unable to release the cage around his wings and embrace the sky. It was not a bother, for Balios could not fly, and he would not abandon the man simply because he desired to fly. It had been a while, at least to him, who was used to spending hours upon hours in the great blue expanse. The one place only his species could touch, the place that called him like a song within his bones, just as strong as the beating of the waves of the Edge within his heart. Sunlight cascaded upon his golden bodice, making it shine with good health. The mists of his home were not as thick under the strain of the hot sun, but it was evident nonetheless. Air turned salty from the ocean not far from where he stood, the comfortable crash of the waves against the rock more than familiar to him. Every time he brought home someone from the Threshold he had to hold back from simply walking straight through the borders and enveloping himself in the mists he knew so well. Turning his crown he smiled at the older stallion that was following him, assuring him that all was fine. It would not do for the brute to be nervous and fumbling when Mirage or Rishima made an appearance, not that he believed the stallion was the type. He was very composed, though he seemed to be confused by Kaj, as if he had never seen a Pegasus before. Or perhaps not one like him? Kaj knew he had a rather strange coloring of such bright white-gold, with dark stockings and faded wings of both. Shrugging internally he cast his muzzle to the sky and called out in his deep voice to those crowned with ability to accept Balios. Cutting off only when he knew it would reverberate well throughout the forest. White tail flickered against his legs, highlighted by gold, and he waited. Motioning for Balios to move up beside him, knowing that Mirage, much like her name implied, could use her magic quite well and could appear within seconds. You would never know she was before you until she cut it, as he had experienced when leading Panto to the borders to be accepted. "They will come, Balios. Welcome to the World's Edge," he rumbled happily, smiling through his entire visage, light baby blue irises glowing joyfully at the other stallion.

Balios walked beside Kaj. Thoughts wondered his mind as he dozed off into them. He hoped that this herd would be the right one for him and he hoped that he had not made a mistake on joining. He knew that he more than likely would not and he would make some friends and possibly live the rest of his life here. The members of the herd would soon become his family. His brothers and sisters and he would do anything to protect them. Even if it meant risking his own life. That’s what all herds did right? They defended each other and protected each other. He did not want to become the type of horse who was stuck up and only cared about himself. He would succeed at his duties and would help make sure that all was well. As a member of a herd he would follow all of the leaders commands and would respect all of the ones that are higher or lower than him in rank. He would be the best he could.

The dappled stallion smelled the salty air that put a smile on his maw. The relaxing sound of waves crashing soothed him and helped take the slight bit of nervousness away. A light haze seemed to drown the ground. It was not a heavy fog at all though, just a thin layer that made the land look even more beautiful. The warm sun beat down onto his glossy grey figure. It seemed like a wondrous place, so calm but yet sparked with life. As Kaj motioned for him to move forward, he did so. His cat-like eyes scanned the land looking for something unknown. His horn glimmered in the light of day as his golden eyes glanced at the Pegasus as he started to talk. "They will come, Balios. Welcome to the World's Edge.” Kaj stared at Balios with glee and the unicorn could not help but smile back at him. He was exited. This would be his new home. This was where he would belong. “Thank you so much for everything Kaj! You have been so kind to me.” He whinnied happily as his eyes could not help but watch the land and wait for the leader to appear.

Discussions with her sister had allowed the WeyrLeader to become familiar with the titles and appearances of the new faces that would be seen about her herdland. They had joined since her capture, pledged themselves to the Edge despite knowing the predicament the Edge was in. Surely it was a mark of the hope, the honour and esteem that the individuals held, that they didn't turn a herd already prospering - that they wanted to be a part of the rebuild, part of the growth and saving grace of the herd, spoke wonders of their resolve. Despite not meeting some of these individuals yet, she felt a sense of respect for them, just as she hoped they would respect the position she was in, and the unavoidable absence her capture had triggered.

The mare walked today, still not entirely willing herself to be seen, and so a shimmering, blurry cloak was worn. The mists danced around her illusion-draped form, and a golden dragon lazily floated amidst the sun beams that filtered down through the canopy above. Mirage was drawn towards the borders today, filled with the specific hope that she would come across a member she was yet to meet, so that she could greet them, and allow them to know who it was they followed. The DragonHeart was never one to lead a herd from a distance; mysterious though she was, she had been named their leader, by them, not demanded that they follow her.

Ears twitched, movements were paused, the shimmering cloak allowed nothing more than a hint of her whereabouts to be seen by an onlooker. Golden eyes roamed the borders of her land, and then - there, the faded, dark-trimmed, golden hide of a pegasus. The dark shadow mare searched her memories for a name, knowing him to be Kaj, the diligent Protector who had brought many to her for final judgement and acceptance. He led another, a tall, curiously coloured unicorn. The golden tinge of his horn and eyes rang familiar with her. Curiosity was piqued, and just like that, the WeyrLeader strode forth, dropping the cloak that clung to her. Indifference was upon her façade, even as she arched her nape to bow her tiara to her herdmate, and drank their forms in with deep, golden eyes.

"Welcome to the World's Edge." Her voice was accented, but held few variants in tone, mostly just presenting the words with a bland, truthful sincerity. The speech was directed towards the new member, though a sparkle behind her eyes indicated that she was greeting Kaj as well. "I am Mirage." Her speech ceased then, as Akaith found this moment opportune to float down from her lazy winged dances amidst the canopy, and make herself at home upon her beloved, bonded's back. The little dragon looked at the two stallions, tilting her draconic crown this way and that, before decidedly finding something more interesting to look at elsewhere. A picture of relaxation, the WeyrLeader hitched a hindleg onto her toe, and patiently awaited what may unfold.

[- Sorry for the mostly recycled post, but I wanted to get something up <3 -]

He is accustomed now to the wraith that is his Leader, and knows she is watching from a melded plane that purposefully shields her body from mortal eyes. The mists conceal her well, and Kaj is confident in the fact that she will not reveal herself until she is good and ready. For all he knows she may be standing but a step from him, and he is comfortable with that. Trust in his mistress keeps him firmly and patiently grounded, uncaring of how long he would remain earthbound until her arrival. Balios is patient, though he had anticipated no less. It is clear that the stallion is older than Kaj, with experience and a wise nature that befits him. The two of them could likely stand there till dusk and never make a peep. Kaj isn’t adverse to this, being ill-fitted with words and expressions, preferring instead body language and actions.

As he had expected, she arrived. Her form shifts as if she were born from the very shadows of the world, and nobody could explain or convince otherwise. Magic does strange things, for sure. Mirage’s greeting is rehearsed and he has heard it multiple times, but he dips his head to her the moment she enters his field of vision. He is not exempted from her greeting and smile played briefly at his lips that she remembered him through all the times he’d brought her stragglers to turn into herdmates. It’s time for Balios to take the stage, and Kaj lets his crown rise up to regal height once more. Turning diagonal to the brute, shuffle of downy wings the only sound accompanying him as he slowly but surely turned to stone, as if touched by Medusa’s stare. Balios must know that he will have no help from Kaj, for the man had to prove himself to Mirage on his own. Kaj could not speak for him, would not show favoritism, and instead cast him a comforting and encouraging glance before calmly awaiting the interaction between his leader and his follower.

[[Short but Kaj really isn’t doing anything xD]]
