The widely spaced, sunny trees of the Threshold are swiftly descending into a knotted mass of thick boughs and massive trunks, gnarled branches and ancient leaves that seem to whisper sinister secrets, secrets of blood and darkness and encroaching shadows... Argetlam shuddered, feeling the powerful urge to flee from the thickening forest before him, turn and run as swift as he could to the Foothills, where the aromatic, fresh smell of pine was the odor and the trees were familiar, the mountains were tall and the metal was in abundance, where every step he took he could sense the hot pulse of the metal's heartbeat.

This forest, on the other hand, was dark and damp. Trees seemed to press inwards, vines threw out hands to catch at his feathered feet, leaves dropped water on him from the last rainfall. No matter how hard he tried to ignore the feeling of watching eyes, the dapple gray could not stop himself from nervously checking his surroundings. Why couldn't he have ventured to the Heavenly Fields, or the Thistle Meadow, instead of this dark place where the shadows ate at his skin? For they did. They crept over him, engulfed him, dried his throat and parched his mouth.

Of course, it could not do to just have simply darkness, but a glint of blood as well.

Argetlam trumpeted in terrified surprise, exploding into action, shying and stumbling away in desperation from the ruby pool. In his terror, he missed the cacophony he was causing, the startlingly loud sounds in the muffled forest, of snapping twigs and ringing neighs. It felt like there was a very real thing trying to claw its way out of his great chest, his heart did; pounding loudly against his silver ribcage. Not until his breathing ease did he realize the stallion had caused such a racket over a pool of ruby gems. Stupid, stupid him, giving himself away.

But it did look suspiciously like blood.

"Open, but for the Gray please? :3"

Behind the dappled grey moved a bay tobanio paint with a ivory and garnet hellhound pup at his side. It was the first outing asa bonded pair, but one Aaron felt they needed to make. Argetlam did not need to leave the Foothills on his own. After all not only had a warrior been taken but their earth medic as well. Sure Aaron had only just met them, but they were part of the herd and therefore he was going to help protect them. Alanna traveled just barely behind his feathered front hooves, ice blue eyes taking in everything. Often Aaron wondered what ability the little one had, but figured that in time it would show. As the tree thickened the draft snorted not liking the limited vision it gave. As a warrior of the Qian he had felt comfortable here.... Now that the Qian had gained World's Edge.. Who knows who had moved in since then.

The paint stayed back, only until the dapple grey shied away from the ruby red pool. The pool had always made him nervous, but since it was only ruby gems the young paint tried to ignore it. He however moved forward and gave a softer wicker to let Argetlam know he was not alone. "I'd say it's safer to travel in numbers right now, wouldn't you?" Alanna yipped in agreement, trying to lighten the moment by tugging on the feathers at Aaron's hooves in play. The draft lowered his muzzle and gently pushed the pup on her side in play. It was hard to be so gentle, when you were so much bigger.

The coldest blood runs through my veins</style>

The bloody stallion moved through the forest like a massive, violent shadow. Light from the sun held no power here in the darkness, the mottled light barely making its way through thick leaves and twisted vines. Truly, this place was a castle for the four crowned king of murder. A coldness hovered around him like a sinister ambiance of inhuman lack of emotion, a true sociopath. Well, perhaps. That remained to be seen. Rafe spied two interlopers in the distance, and his body blended with the trees, the same hue of chestnut as the mark. The black stocks on his legs appeared to be shadows, but his piercing blue eyes and half-white tail betrayed him.

A pinto and a gray, both unadorned with any physical weapons were wandering through his forest, the Grey's forest. The unofficial king grinned a little, the expression more chilling than amusing. Nothing about his emotions reaches his eyes, and they were haunting. Massive hooves on a well balanced figure approached, making his presence known. He approached with a gait that was confident and from the haunches, prepared at any moment to lunge.

"Gentlemen," he rumbled, hooves coming to rest at the edge of the bloody pool. He leaned down and dipped his muzzle into the crimson liquid, sucking it in. The flavor was metallic, like blood from when he sank his teeth into the flesh of a less deserving fighter. When he lifted his charcoal maw, droplets of red fell on his hooves, sliding down. "What brings you into the halls of the Grey?"

Argetlam's heart is eased by Aaron's presence. Argetlam is not a warrior, and Aaron is, even if he is a mason of the foothills. Aaron is a trained warrior, a swift fighter and thinker, and he can uses his bulky body to his advantage, unlike the metal-bender who can but simply stand, not ever ready to go offensive. Yes, he has fought before- once. In the Moonlit Tides, he had tried his best to protect the herd, but very swiftly he was knocked-out and left floundering. But with Aaron, he is much more at ease, more confident, even if he still feels unseen eyes are watching and there are predators lurking nearby. "I'm so relieved you're here, Aaron. This forest is pretty spooky." The metal-bender comments, moving a little closer to the paint, and away from the crimson pool that gives him the chills.

Unfortunately for the dapple just beginning to calm, the sound of hooves set his heart racing against, a bump-bump-bump that accelerates into a pounding beat that block out all sounds as the blood rushes to his ears. Fear. If he were a dog, his hackles were be raised in terror, his tail would be cast between his legs. Is Argetlam a coward? No. But is he a brave stallion? Not necessarily. He goes through the motions, thinks over his actions, but he does not jump recklessly into things. Of course, the horse emerging does nothing to ease his concerns of safety and friendship. The stallion is altogether too clearly a warrior, a dark creature of cold finesse, a coat the color of blood he has certainly spilled and three black horns, sharp and cruel against the shadows of the forest.

Nevertheless, the unicorn rumbles a greeting, dipping his head to drink from the blood-pool. Argetlam stares, torn between fright and concern. Was that water safe to drink? Maybe it was just rubies on the bottom, but it didn't look healthy. It didn't have metal around it, in any case, and that was enough to set him away from it. What did they want here? What was the Gray? The draft shuddered, and found himself speaking anyways. Maybe Ailith had rubbed off on him with her unforgiving, confident ways. Except he still stuttered and mumbled. "We are looking for two mares of our herd that were ambushed a while past- a mare named Willow, tall, with a tree growing from her back, and a palomino, short and stout, named Romani. Do you know where they are?" Of course, Argetlam didn't know the Gray actually had them, and there was a plot behind it.

It seemed the trio would not have to wait long as a unicorn appeared, his coat much the safe as the glass horned freak he had faced in the Basin. However this one was different, much more sinister looking as he had multiple horns sticking out of his face. Alanna stood up and moved in front of Argetlam and growled softly. She did not like this stranger who did not smell like her bonded or his friend. Aaron watched as the blood bay drank from the pool of red, before speaking to the trio from the Foothills. His words were straight and to the point. Why were they here. Well that was simple enough. Argetlam spoke before Aaron could. It was Alanna however that caught Aaron's attention. Her keen sense of smell seemed to of gone into overdrive. At once she recognized the scent the bay did have on him that was not of this forest. The paint however kept this information to himself.

Without a word Aaron shifted into a more protective stance as close as possible to Argetlam. Something was not right here, and he did not like it. This forest had once been welcoming, a safe haven for those of the Qian that did not belong to a herd. Now, it seemed like a very different group had taken over that did not mean as well as the Qian had. Little did Aaron know, just how well he knew the leaders of this group.. Or well thought he did.
