Inside the Heart, things were stirring. Buried deep inside the hot, red, magma, a creature stirred. It's flaming body changed hues as it began to stir. The flames going from a deep red to a vibrant blue all in a few moments. The creature shifted, raising it's large skull in the small hole it was in. Slowly uncurling it's body, the creature grumbles. Dirt crumbled, and a whole cracked open, revealing the sky. Long forelegs outstretched, the creature begins to dig at the crack, causing it to collapse. After an eternity of sleeping in that small hole, the creature was awake and in the outer world.

The the earth split open under the creatures weight, it was large for a dragon. But it was not a companion that can bond to another. It was a wild, unbonded dragon. But it still sought somebody. Someone specific, someone who was to be given a gift. "Aryel... Aryel..." The beast murmurs, scanning the area. The stars twinkled above in the night sky, and the creature gazed up to admire the small sparkling spots with blue gems. It longed to soar through the sky, but for now it was bound to the ground, for it had no wings to fly with. It had to fulfill it's duty before it could be freed. "Aryel... Aryel..." The creature murmured once again, it's long tail slapping the ground. Elegant movements bring the creature to a crouch, it's grand, flaming body crushing the grass under it.

The creature stands there, silent. It's long neck withdrawn closer to it's body. The moonlight streamed down onto the dragon's back, illuminating it's body. With it's nose pointed out towards the sky, the creature waited silently for the blue pegasus to come. "Aryel..." Again, the gentle voice of the beast whispers, the words carried away in the wind. Would the mare come to the dragon, or will she not hear it's calling words?

Aryel, used to flying with only the wind whistling in her ears for company, now had a companion, a small flying fox that sat on her withers with it's claws wrapped in her mane. Java, his belly full of nectar and fruit, was nervous about his first time in the air, but it didn't stop him from looking down at the ground with interest. Everything was so new to the little bat. Aryel, for her part, was overjoyed to have him as she flew, acutely aware of the tiny, minuscule mental thread that connected them. After her had had his fill of flowers and fruit, she had decided to take him on a flight before the sun came up, to show him what she could of Helovia before she had to return home and begin her patrols. Although perhaps now the long hours spent patrolling the border wouldn't be quite so long.

As high as they were, the pillar of heat that rose out of the Heart could be still be felt. The two gazed down at the pulsing flames and tower of smoke, then she prepared to bank away. Before she could, something stopped her.

"Aryel...Aryel..."

She flared her wings, stopping midair to hover. Where had that come from? The voice had been accompanied with another mental pull, but one more ancient, more commanding, then Java's infantile abilities. She scanned the ground, then snorted in surprise. An enormous creature crouched near the Heart, flickering in hues of deepest red and royal blue, the true colors of fire. The creature had called her name, but for what purpose?

She began to descend, to Java's panic. He squeaked angrily, digging his claws into her mane for emphasis. "It's fine." Aryel assured him, although she wasn't so sure herself. With a few final wingbeats, she dropped the last few inches to the ground, standing in front of the dragon. Java hid his face, frightened. Aryel felt like doing the same thing. She cautiously approached the dragon, but had to stop after a few steps. The heat radiating from the creature was simply too much. The dragon looked ancient, powerful, yet there seemed to be no hostility in his gaze. Aryel had seen dragons before, in her previous home, but none were as grand as this one. Oddly, though, for all it's majesty, the dragon lacked wings. She had never seen a wingless dragon before. She steeled herself, then spoke. "You called me?"

The beast craned it's neck, spotting a small blue mare flying overhead. In an instant the dragon's lips curled up in a smile. Strange, yes. Dragon's don't exactly smile, but this one does. It watches intently as the blue mare soars down, touching the earth delicately. The beast raises it's cranium, peering down at the mare. A small creature is hidden within her dark mane, and the creature nods.

The mare looks at the fiery beast, questioning it. A slight laugh comes from the belly of the beast, it returns it's fiery orbs to the mare. "Mortal, calm yourself." The dragon rests it's weight on it's haunches, settling down. The beast sighs, getting ready to speak. "I awoke so that I could speak with you, and give you something." The creature straightens up, sighing again. The ancient dragons' flaming tail swishes, flattening more grass. In a slight huff, the dragon stands up. "I suppose you'll be wanting your gift now?" The creature knows how greedy some mortals can get, so it suspected this mare was no different. The dragon shifts it's weight, the earth crunching underneath it's body. It wold wait for the mare's reply before it gave her the gifts.

The creature takes note of the mare, her blue body and her large wings. Wings. The dragon sighs, longing for the wings that he never had. But right now, the dragons' main focus was on the mare, and so, he waited. Waited for the mares' answer.

At first, Aryel mistook the beast's laugh for a growl, but managed not to quail in fright. Java dared a peek at the dragon, his infantile black fur slicked flat with nervousness. As this was his first night out of the egg, everything was new and strange, and he was still adjusting to the fact that everything was bigger than he was. The enormous dragon was a downright mountain in his young eyes. As the beast spoke, Aryel's ears pricked forward in curiosity. It...wanted to speak to her? To give her something? Aryel wasn't a greedy horse in any sense of the word, but gifts were always a positive thing in her opinion. She was always grateful when someone gave her something, and this would be no exception. Still, the thought of receiving a gift from a dragon gave her pause. What exactly was it? Why would she, of all horses, deserve a gift from a dragon? She gave full effort protecting the Throat, and yet she was really nobody special. What if this was a trick, and she was about to become dragon food? She swallowed, trying to ignore the disturbing thought. Even if she ran now, it could no doubt incinerate her with a puff of flame before she could go ten feet. She would have to stick it out.

Aryel took a step backwards as it stood up, the oppressive heat radiating off it's skin with every move it made. And yet, without the enormous leathery wings dragons were known for, it just didn't seem quite as stunning. It had crawled out of the ground, though. Maybe it wasn't a sky dragon? She had never heard of any sort of earth dragon. She blinked as it spoke again, it's furnace of a mouth expelling more heat and tongues of flame. Well, if he was willing to give her a gift, she would take it. "I suppose..." she managed, "If you have one to give."

The beast kept it's flaming orbs on the blue mare. It smiled as the small creature burrowed in the mare's neck peeps out. When the mare accepts the gift, the dragon nods it's large skull. "You accept? Good, good." The dragon shifts it's weight to it's haunches.

The dragon's chest compresses as it inhales, preparing itself. The dragon straightens it back, getting ready to give the mare her gift. In an instant, the dragon blows flames of blue hues all over the mare. Once encased, the mare is encased, the dragon slides back onto it's hind legs, watching.

An array of blue flames spiral around the mare. Once the tornado of flames is spinning around the mare, inside there are flames of all different colors dancing about. All of the colors seem to dance in their own unique way and shape, taking the form of animals. Suddenly the column of fire shrinks, slowly spiraling into the mare. In a quick flash the mare's body glows a vibrant blue before it fades away.

The dragon bows it's head, smiling. "You have earned your gift. I must rest again." The dragon waits a moment to stare at the mare before he turns around, the earth shaking as he moves his flaming legs. He snorts, crawling into the same hole he came out of. He curls up, ready to rest for another eon or so. Above ground, the large crack in the earth seals up as though it never happened, and everything returns to normal once again.

(( Congratulations! You've earned your magic!
